My heartiest congrats to Pakistan for defeating hot favourites England yesterday. It gave vibrations of an epic twist in a Hollywood classic.Truly magnificient see the Pakistani spirit embezzle like it did yesterday. It literally looked as though a new life was infused into the Pakistani players. From the depths of despair Pakistan reached the height of glory.Pakistan resembled the great revival of an army which looked dead and buried and then spectacularly ressurected itself from the grave. One almost wrote Pakistan off after being betaken like a club side against outsiders West Indies in the previous game and the result almost looked inevitable here for England to register a thumping victory.Imagine losing 4 games in a trot including 4 against England iteslf which had just finished. It revived memories of some instances when Pakistan rose like a phoenix from the Ashes like in 1992 world cup,2017 ICC trophy and 2009 t-20 world cup.It proves that when the Pakistan spirit blazes at its zenith they have no equals .The David literally vanquished the Goliath yesterday. To me the best ressurection ever in world cup cricket history.
England are in this tournament and after their 1st win of this edition of the cup in the league of West Indies of 1979 and 1983 or South Africa of 1996 and 99.Pakistan conquered one of the most balanced sides ever to contest a world cup if you asess England's record in the lats 4 years home and away.India beat the Calypsos in 1983 , New Zealand beat Australia in 1999 but not after succumbing the manner Pakistan did in the preceding game.Maybe the closest was the West Indies revival in 1996 after losing to Kenya.
Arguably the win has not only boosted Pakistan's chances but also those of India and Australia.England were most lack lackadaisical in the field making the silliest of errors. The match was hard fought game and great for ODI cricket but I was quite disappointed with England who hardly lived up to their bill as favourities with a lacklustre approach.Although there was sustained resistance from the middle order after 4 wickets had fallen early Pakistan always had that edge even of a whisker .Only after Butler's dismissal did the game truly turn in favour of Pakistan. Both Joe Root and Joss Butler yesterday just lacked that crucial match-winning ingredient of doing the final rites by taking England home. The climbing run rate of around 9 runs per over was a crucial factor even with 5-6 wickets in hand as bow the batsmen were forced to attack. On true form England should never have conceded more than 325 runs and got home comfortably.Perhaps the law of averages caught up with Pakistan or even England.I credit Root and Butler for doing such a meticuluos repair job stitching the wounds in what at one stage looked like a successful operation but they were unable to overpower the Pakistani resilience.
A great day for cricket on the whole as it was tragic sight to see Pakistan go down so meekly in the 1st game.Who knows they may even go on to lift the trophy if they mantain this tempo?
