"We (Pakistan and India) can rule the world of cricket if we work and play together" : Javed Miandad

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2018 ) :Batting legend Javed Miandad Tuesday questioned pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) that why cannot both nations play a bilateral series when they regularly face each other in a World Tournament.

Talking to APP, Miandad, who played for Pakistan in Tests and One-Day Internationals between 1975 and 1996, said it is beyond his understanding that when both Pakistan and India can play each other in a World tournament like World Cup, Champions Trophy, World Twenty-20 and Asia Cup then why can't in a bilateral series.

"The more we play, the more hatred will end among both countries and relations would get better," he said and added it is time the politicians stop politicizing the matter.

Miandad, who was ranked 44th among the best cricketers of all time by the ESPN Legends of Cricket, pointed out that Ashes series between Australia and England saying they too cannot stand each other on the field but still play as it is sportsman spirit. "We (Pakistan and India) can rule the world of cricket if we work and play together," he said.

Speaking on International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to convert 2021 Champions Trophy scheduled in India into a World T20 event, finally scrapping the eight-team ODI tournament, Miandad said it is a good decision as cricket these days is getting faster and people are more interested in watching shorter format cricket instead of longer ones.

"However the ICC must keep a strict eye on match fixing issues as shorter formats involve a bigger threat of fixing," he said.

Soft and visible target to make it seem respectable. India will not agree to play Pakistan under current government.

We already rule the world cricket dude .why would we need pakistan support for that ?

India is doing far better in cricket. Don't have any idea what Pakistan could bring in the table to help.... I can see more negative than positive.

Yeah India is having real trouble ruling cricket on it's own. Sharp from Miandad.

But what would India benefit from playing Pakistan? That's the real question.
Rule the cricket world? For what purpose? We need more teams to take up cricket and this is not the kind of mentality you want.

No need...India is already biggest super power in world cricket and of all the people we don’t need pcb support..playing with pak and collaborating with pcb doesn’t make any iota of difference to bcci neither in fame nor in money

rule the world? yeah maybe in 2007-2008 we could have done it together but we had a fool in charge of the country and another one in charge of the PCB..The BCCI couldnt believe its luck and essentially did a number on the naive fools..now we need to ensure we can compete forget ruling anything!!

and even if we wanted to, they dont want to and never have wanted to...

India ( BCCI to be precise) may not be ruling cricket goernance but it has a very strong voice in it.
If Pakistan (PCB to be precise) partners with BCCI , is PCB going to bring any value to the table???
I guess not ???
So why would BCCI think about it?

This statement just shows sub continent mentality.
PCB would do the exact same thing what BCCI has been doing for last few years, if PCB had capability to be what BCCI is today.

It’s time BCCI, PCB work together for resumption of bilateral cricket: Javed Miandad

Former Pakistan Test captain Javed Miandad has advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to work together for the resumption of bilateral series between the two neighbouring countries.

“It is high time the two boards got on one platform and tried to convince the governments to give clearance for resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan,” Miandad said in an interview.

The 124 Tests veteran said it was a shame that despite having good teams and exciting young talents, India and Pakistan are not competing against each other on regular basis.

“What is the purpose of this World Test Championship or any other ICC backed league if India and Pakistan don’t play against each other,” he said.

Miandad said he had lost all hope in the ICC in playing any role to get India and Pakistan to resume bilateral cricket, which has been suspended since 2008 except for a short limited over series held in 2012-13 in India as a goodwill gesture.

“India and Pakistan series is much bigger than the Ashes and if we work out our issues the two countries can rule the cricket world,” he said.

“No matter the level of political relations in the past we have played cricket in very tense conditions and it has eventually helped the governments,” Miandad stated.

He said if bilateral cricket was held it would help in easing relations between the two countries.

Miandad said that if India and Pakistan can play in ICC events like the World Cup or Champions Trophy or in the Asia Cup, why not in bilateral matches.

“One could reconcile to the situation if there were no matches between the two countries at all but if we can play in ICC events then why not otherwise,” he asked.

The batting great also asked the ICC to keep a close eye on the mushrooming of T20 leagues to prevent any fixing scandals.

Miandad doing his best but dont think times have moved on. Mere words will not get these sides together.
