"We wanted experience in the bowling in the form of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz" : Inzamam-ul-Haq
Inzamam-ul-Haq at a presser regarding the World Cup squad:
"We realised during the series against England that the ball isn't swinging much and those bowlers can do well who can bowl with the old ball and bowl reverse swing. Wahab Riaz has experience in this regard, he can bowl with the old ball and reverse it. He's a senior bowler also and we felt that our bowlers are lacking experience a bit, so we included him"
"We realised that Mohammad Amir is also our senior bowler and he has experience of bowling in England. His economy rate is also good in England"
"We wanted experience in the bowling in the form of Amir and Wahab"
"It wasn't easy to drop Abid Ali as he's a good player but we felt that the way Asif Ali has batted, and the way the pitches are playing, we need a player who can accelerate and up the run-rate at 6/7"
"When you do any planning, you also review that. If we feel that any player is needed, we don't worry that he wasn't selected yesterday so he shouldn't be selected today. I will not compromise, if I can do something for the betterment of the team"
"It's early season right now in England but the forecast for the World Cup, it's even better and we feel the pitches will be truer so we need bowlers who can reverse the ball"
"Wahab Riaz has performed well in domestic tournaments. There is no aspect of the panic button here, we've selected the team according to the requirement after speaking to the captain and coach"
"For the third opener, we have Mohammad Hafeez and Haris Sohail"
"England's bowlers got hit like the Pakistan bowlers. The difference was 100 runs across 4 games. If Pakistan took some catches or was better in fielding then the results could have been different"
"Hasnain isn't experienced, he's new but he has express pace. England is the #1 team playing in their home conditions so it's not easy to face them"
"Alongside bowling, we need to look at the fielding factor also. We also look at which bowler will be effective. Faheem Ashraf and Junaid Khan have good performances but we feel they won't be effective on these pitches where we need pace and experience"
"We didn't discard Amir but looking at the conditions, we feel we need bowlers who have experience of bowling in these conditions"
"Junaid and Faheem aren't bad bowlers but we feel they aren't suited to these conditions"
"Pakistan showed fight in the series against England. If there were some poor performances, there's also plus points. Chasing 373, the batting showed fight and we realised that the fielding standard was poor and we needed experience in the bowling"
"I have confidence in my team and I feel they will perform better in the World Cup"
"People thought we'll bowl well and struggle with the bat but everything happened in the opposite manner. We realised these aren't conditions for swing bowlers and we need bowlers who bowl well with the old ball"
"Our batting is looking in good shape. We need experienced players in the squad who know how to finish matches and I feel that Malik and Hafeez are our senior players and I rely on them"
"Our team is a team of young players. They've lost some matches but they have won also. Over the top criticism which I hear is not right. The players who do well and the positives should be appreciated"
"I don't know how the team wiill perform in the World Cup, they will do some good things, they will make some mistakes. No team does all good things, or all bad things. We should highlight the good things also as it's our team and we need to support them which will raise their spirits"
"Mohammad Rizwan, Abid Ali and Faheem Ashraf will remain in England. They'll play cricket to stay in touch with the conditions and if we feel the need for any of them as replacements then we'll have backup"
"Sarfaraz bats well higher up the order because he is a proper batsman. He knows he isn't the type of batsman to bat at 6 or 7. He will perform better up the order"
"This is not a Uturn, we have the chance to change the team till the 23rd and we made the changes we felt were necessary and amended our policy/plans according to the requirements"
"Our team has the capability to win the World Cup"
"We will have our full squad for the warm-up matches with perhaps the exception of Abid Ali, but from the perspective of injuries, everyone is fine"
