West Ham are close to agreeing a £25million deal to sign CSKA Moscow and Croatia attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic.

West Ham are in talks to sign Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow after completing a move for Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.

Kral, who joined Spartak in 2019, is also interesting Italian side Atalanta.

Croatia midfielder Vlasic, 23, joined the Hammers on a five-year deal after a fee of 30m euros (£26.8m), plus 9m (£7.7m) in add-ons was agreed.

Arthur Masuaku said he was as surprised as everyone else when his misdirected late cross beat Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy to earn West Ham victory over the Premier League leaders in a pulsating encounter at London Stadium.

After collecting the ball wide on the left with three minutes remaining, Masuaku's attempted delivery took Mendy by surprise and flew in at the near post to spark jubilant scenes among Hammers supporters.

The win consolidated West Ham's place in the top four and means they have now beaten Chelsea and Liverpool, two of the three teams above them this season.

"So, was it a cross or was it shot?" Masuaku said on Twitter. "(Hint: I was as surprised as you)."

"I said to him I thought it was a great cross," West Ham manager David Moyes joked of the defender's first Premier League goal.

"It was very fortunate but in football you need a bit of fortune sometimes. In the last few games we have lost it a little bit, but today we got it back."

Thiago Silva broke the deadlock for Chelsea in the first half, heading Mason Mount's corner past Lukasz Fabianski via the inside of the post.

West Ham equalised when Mendy brought down Jarrod Bowen following a poor backpass from Jorginho, allowing Manuel Lanzini to stroke home from the penalty spot.

Chelsea regained their advantage in spectacular fashion, Mount sending a superb side-footed volley into the corner from Hakim Ziyech's low cross for his second goal in two games.

Bowen's low drive from the edge of the area restored parity once more before Masuaku's remarkable late winner.

The defeat means Chelsea will drop to third if Manchester City and Liverpool win this weekend.

"This is a goal that OK, happens," said Blues boss Thomas Tuchel. "There are no mistakes, just a freak goal - the problem is that it is the winner.

"Overall we did too many individual mistakes. If you do this for three consecutive games you cannot expect always to get a result.

"The schedule we play and effort we play, sometimes you feel tired, but you just need to accept it and control our risk management.

"We hate to lose and we have to digest it now. It is not a performance to be mad about, but in detail we need to be better again.

"If we won the game nobody would have given us the title and if we lose it I don't think anybody else gets it this weekend."

After saying Chelsea lacked "the right attitude" in their narrow victory at Watford on Wednesday, Tuchel will be bitterly disappointed at the manner in which they relinquished their grip on proceedings on Saturday.

They appeared in total control after Thiago's goal, only for Jorginho and Mendy to gift West Ham a route back into the game.

Mendy had enough time to clear the danger after beating Bowen to Jorginho's backpass, but he opted to take a touch before scything down the former Hull winger.

Mount's fabulous first-time strike put the Blues back in the driving seat shortly before half-time. The England midfielder, who delivered another impressive showing, has now been directly involved in eight goals in his past six league games.

Chelsea started the second period on the front foot too, but West Ham remained a threat on the counter and struck when Bowen was given time and space to get his shot away despite Thiago and Andreas Christensen being in close proximity.

There appeared little danger when full-back Masuaku - a first-half substitute for the injured Ben Johnson - collected the ball near the sideline, but he somehow managed to beat Mendy with a powerful drive to inflict a first away league defeat of the season on Chelsea.

Hammers tactics pay dividends
The win ended West Ham's run of three league games without a win since their magnificent 3-2 victory over Liverpool before the international break.

Operating with a back three of Craig Dawson, Moussa Diop and Kurt Zouma, West Ham soaked up Chelsea's pressure before attempting to strike on the counter.

The impressive Bowen almost made it 3-2 moments before Masuaku's winner when he failed to steer Michail Antonio's low cross on target.

West Ham are now only six points behind Chelsea in the table and four ahead of Arsenal, who face Everton at Goodison Park on Monday.

If they could somehow keep this up and finish 4th to snatch a Champions League place, that would be an incredible result for West Ham.

Police in Germany say more than 30 people were arrested overnight after incidents involving Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham supporters.

The sides meet on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final, which Eintracht lead 2-1 on aggregate.

Frankfurt police confirmed the arrests were because of fan skirmishes.

They said two West Ham fans were knocked unconscious and treated in hospital after an attack by home fans.

Officers broke up a gathering of an estimated 800 West Ham fans around the city's main railway station where "supporters of both teams sought confrontation".

There had already been trouble on Tuesday night when West Ham supporters were attacked by a group, said to be 20-strong, who were wearing Eintracht Frankfurt colours.

West Ham boss David Moyes says his side lost Europa League tie in opening seconds

West Ham boss David Moyes said his side lost their Europa League semi-final tie with Eintracht Frankfurt in the first minute of the first leg last week.

Ansgar Knauff gave Frankfurt the lead after 49 seconds in a 2-1 win in London - and set up Rafael Borre for the only goal at Deutsche Bank Park.

Defender Aaron Cresswell and Moyes himself were both sent off in Germany.

"Let's be honest, we probably lost the game in the first few seconds at London Stadium when we conceded," Moyes said.

"We were chasing the game since."

Frankfurt will now face Rangers in the final, while West Ham's wait for a trophy goes on to a 43rd year. They are currently seventh in the Premier League, which would be a Europa Conference League spot.

"I am really proud of the players. How they played with 10 men was fantastic. They stayed in it. Other teams would have folded and lost two or three," Moyes said.

"I thought we had better chances than Frankfurt. But we congratulate them. They go through, we don't and we give them our best wishes."

Cresswell was shown a red card for a professional foul after a video assistant referee review, while Moyes was sent off for booting the ball at a ball boy.

"I have to apologise for kicking the ball," Moyes said. "The ball boy left it short nicely on the volley for me. I apologise for it.

"It didn't hit him, I think I bent it past him."

He was also less than impressed by the Frankfurt bench's reaction to Cresswell's initial yellow card which got upgraded to red.

"I thought it wasn't great officiating throughout. Aaron has given the referee a decision to make. I was more disappointed with the Frankfurt bench. The whole bench came out, it comes back to haunt you," he said.

"I hope our bench wouldn't react like that. Maybe we should change how we do it, we do it by Queensbury rules."

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice had similar beliefs to his manager.

"The first goal killed the atmosphere in the first game and it is a mountain to climb from there," he told BT Sport.

"We are gutted in there. We have come so far as a group.

"We had genuine belief that over two legs they weren't going to beat us. Of course they are a good side but no way are they better than Sevilla or Lyon [who West Ham have beaten on their run].

"The sending-off was probably a sending-off but some of the other decisions were poor tonight. The ref seemed to make every decision go for them. When you have someone against you, you can't do much."

Thousands of Frankfurt fans ran on to the pitch at full-time to celebrate their first European final since 1980.

Hammers right-back Vladimir Coufal said: "I wasn't scared. I've experienced it many times at Slavia Prague. If they attack me, it's their problem, not mine."

West Ham maintained their push for European football next season with an emphatic 4-0 win over relegated Norwich at Carrow Road.

It was pure domination from the visitors, who eased to victory thanks to Said Benrahma's brace, Michail Antonio's strike and a penalty from Manuel Lanzini.

Norwich, meanwhile, seemed devoid of inspiration in front of an angry home crowd as costly errors proved their downfall.

It took just 12 minutes for the Hammers to solidify their strong start with the opener. Jarrod Bowen fed Benrahma on the left after a swift attacking move, and he fired a deflected shot under Tim Krul, who really should have done better.

Norwich's defensive frailties were in evidence again as Antonio made it 2-0 on the half hour mark. Bowen's reverse pass appeared to have been dealt with by Grant Hanley, but Krul collided with his captain to allow the striker a tap in to an empty net.

Space was far too easily afforded to West Ham and they should have punished Norwich again immediately. Benrahma had all the time in the world to pick out a cross, and, with players queuing up to score, Bowen somehow fired wide from point-blank range.

However, he picked himself up and registered another assist, picking out Benrahma once more. The Algerian rifled a shot past a helpless Krul on the stroke of half time.

Norwich thought they had pulled one back through Sam Byram just after the restart. Lukasz Fabianski failed to catch a corner and the defender turned it home, only for it to become immediately apparent through VAR that the ball had hit his arm.

VAR intervened at the other end 25 minutes from time when Jacob Sorensen handled in the area, allowing Lanzini to step up and convert from the spot.

West Ham bounce back strongly

It could have been easy for David Moyes' side to fold after the disappointment of their Europa League semi-final exit to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night and so their focus was impressive.

It may not have been the toughest of tests against opponents playing only for pride, but West Ham showed their intent as they started as they meant to go on, utilising the space and hurting the home side out wide.

Benrahma was one of two changes for the game and he could have had a hat-trick to further delight the travelling fans, whose buoyancy showed there is still much achieve this season.

Norwich going down with a whimper
The season cannot end soon enough for the Canaries. It is the third season in a row that promotion has been followed immediately by relegation, but there was a greater sense of animosity in the air.

The home crowd's displeasure was clear at half-time and although there was a mini resurgence in the second period it did not last long. History suggests Dean Smith's side will have a good go at promotion next season, and the fans will be desperate for that to be the case.

As Mark Noble was announced on to the London Stadium pitch last Sunday, one hand holding tight to daughter Honey, the other arm hung around the neck of son Lenny, he found it hard to process what he was experiencing.

Born in Canning Town 35 years ago, one and a half miles down the Barking Road to Upton Park, he was a West Ham fan as a kid. He progressed to the club's academy as an 11-year-old and, if he features in the final Premier League game of the season at Brighton on Sunday, will have made 550 first-team appearances.

Apart from brief loan spells as a teenager at Hull and Ipswich, he never played for anyone else.

'Mr West Ham' was how he was announced by Ben Shepherd before Noble and his kids began the walk through an enormous guard of honour. He was hit by a wall of noise from supporters who had remained in their places, long after the 2-2 draw with Manchester City had come to an end.

"I couldn't believe it was me," he said, in an interview with BBC Sport.

"I couldn't believe there was not a spare seat in the stadium. I was truly honoured. I have been involved in football for a long time. I don't think I have seen a send-off like that before."

<b>Declan Rice: Uefa bans West Ham midfielder for two games for referee rant</b>

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has been banned for two games by Uefa after an angry rant at the referee following his side's Europa League semi-final defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The England player accused Jesus Gil Manzano of "corruption" in a video that appeared to be taken in the tunnel following the game on 5 May.

Hammers boss David Moyes and defender Aaron Cresswell were sent off in the 1-0 defeat in Frankfurt.

Moyes has been banned for one game.

Rice will miss both legs of West Ham's Europa Conference League play-off in August.

"Ref, ref, it's so poor, all night, it's so bad," Rice shouted at the Spanish official in the video. "How can you be that bad, honestly? You've probably been paid."

West Ham confirmed at the time they would not take any action against Rice. Moyes said: "If Uefa punish him that's down to them, but not on my watch."

The Hammers have been fined £1,500 because their fans used fireworks at the game in Frankfurt, while the hosts have also been punished.

Frankfurt must play one game behind closed doors - with the penalty suspended for two years - and have been fined £69,000 for six offences relating to their fans.

West Ham are close to the £30m signing of defender Nayef Aguerd from Rennes.

Aguerd, 26, has been identified by manager David Moyes as the next piece in his plan to make West Ham genuine challengers for a top-six spot.

The Morocco player made 66 league appearances for French side Rennes after joining from Dijon in 2020.

In a farewell post to fans on social media, Aguerd said it was a "difficult decision" to leave Rennes as he had enjoyed "exceptional times" there.

Aguerd, who has 25 caps for Morocco, was an ever-present in his country's run to the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations last season.

He also played in both play-off matches against Congo as Morocco reached the World Cup in Qatar.

It is understood Aguerd is likely to have a medical with West Ham on Monday.

If the deal goes through, he will become West Ham's fourth-highest transfer, behind Sebastien Haller, Felipe Anderson and Kurt Zouma.

BREAKING: West Ham have agreed terms on a five year contract with Alphonse Areola.

BREAKING: West Ham have agreed a deal with Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

West Ham have agreed a £30.5m deal with Sassuolo for Gianluca Scamacca.

The Italy striker, 23, is set to become West Ham's fourth senior signing of the summer, with personal terms still to be agreed.

Hammers boss David Moyes has spent the close season trying to bolster his forward options and was in talks with Chelsea's Armando Broja.

Scamacca was the second-highest Italian scorer in Serie A last season with 16 goals from 36 games.

He was rewarded with his international debut last September and has now won seven caps, without scoring.

Scamacca's signing would follow the arrivals this summer of Nayef Aguerd,Alphonse Areola and Flynn Downes.

The Hammers also made an offer to Jesse Lingard, who scored nine goals in 16 Premier League starts for David Moyes' side while on loan from Manchester United in 2020-21.

But the England forward, 29, has decided to join promoted Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after leaving United at the end of his contract.

West Ham have agreed a fee of 40m euros (£33.5m) including add-ons for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.

The Hammers are looking to bolster manager David Moyes' squad before a second consecutive European campaign.

However, the deal for Onana, 20, is not completed yet and personal terms are still to be agreed for the player.

The Hammers are also interested in signing Burnley playmaker Maxwel Cornet, 25, who scored nine goals in 26 games for the Clarets last season.

Dakar-born Onana was capped at youth level before making his senior Belgium debut in a 4-1 Nations League defeat to the Netherlands in June.

The 6ft 5in (1.98m) prospect began his youth career at Belgian clubs Anderlecht, RWS Bruxelles and Zulte Waregem before spending three seasons with Hoffenheim's academy.

Onana signed for Hamburg before the 2020-21 season and swiftly established himself as a first-team regular for the German second-tier side.

After joining then-French champions Lille in August 2021, Onana made 31 appearances in Ligue 1 last season and featured in all of the club's Champions League matches, starting in a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

West Ham are set to make Onana their fifth signing of the close season following the arrivals of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, midfielder Flynn Downes, defender Nayef Aguerd and forward Gianluca Scamacca.

Embarrassing 1-0 loss for West Ham vs Forest

West Ham boss David Moyes cursed his side's luck in defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The Reds beat the Hammers 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday to get off the mark on their return to the Premier League.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winner for Steve Cooper's side in the first half and on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved a Declan Rice penalty in the second half.

Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma also both hit the underside of the crossbar for West Ham, with Benrahma also seeing an opening goal ruled out by VAR in the first half after Forest's Orel Mangala was adjudged to be impeded in the build-up.

“I’m really frustrated,” said Moyes. “We haven’t scored many in pre-season so that was an excerpt of it.

“The first 20 minutes frustrated me, I thought we were really poor. We grew into the game. We didn’t deserve the result we got that was for sure but we did in the end.

“Forest started well, they were powerful, strong and put us under pressure. We didn’t cope with that well.

“Maybe on another day, today we hit the underside of the bar twice, we missed a penalty, we got a goal disallowed which was a bit contentious.

“Today very little went our way in what was a big game for Nottingham Forest. They carried quite a bit of luck and we didn’t have any.”

West Ham are in talks with Chelsea over their Italy full-back Emerson Palmieri.

Hammers boss David Moyes has turned to the 28-year-old as he looks to bolster his defence.

Injuries to new signing Nayef Aguerd and experienced duo Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna have forced Moyes to use Ben Johnson in central defence so far this season alongside Kurt Zouma.

West Ham are also understood to be looking at Paris St-Germain's German defender Thilo Kehrer, 25.

Emerson spent last season on loan at Lyon from Chelsea, making 29 league appearances for the French side.

However, he has little future at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Brighton, even though Emerson still has two years left on his current contract.

Since joining from Roma in January 2018, he has made 33 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.

West Ham have signed Germany defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris St-Germain on a four-year contract.

Kehrer, 25, has made 128 appearances in four years at PSG since joining for £33m from Schalke.

He has 22 international caps and regularly started for Germany during the past year.

"This is the best league in the world and I'm excited about coming to play in the Premier League," said Kehrer, who has joined for a reported £10.1m.

"I talked to the manager and he told me about how he sees me fitting in at the club. My biggest goal now is to get into the team, integrate myself within the group and enjoy playing for West Ham."

Kehrer, who has the option of a further two years on his contract, played 34 times for the French champions last season.

He won three Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups and started their Champions League final defeat by Bayern Munich in 2020.

"He's a talented player, who can play in a number of defensive positions, adding strength and depth to our current options," said Hammers boss David Moyes.

West Ham are also in talks with Chelsea over their Italy full-back Emerson Palmieri.

Injuries to new signing Nayef Aguerd and experienced duo Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna have forced Moyes to use Ben Johnson in central defence this season alongside Kurt Zouma.

Kehrer is West Ham's sixth summer signing after winger Maxwel Cornet, striker Gianluca Scamacca, defender Nayef Aguerd, midfielder Flynn Downes, and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

Danish side Viborg FF will be without two players for their visit to West Ham in the Europa Conference League play-off first leg because of visa issues.

Nigerian winger Ibrahim Said and Gambia forward Alassana Jatta will not travel because of entry rules for non-EU citizens following Brexit.

Viborg said they had "tried everything" and consulted Danish football leaders, Uefa and embassies in both countries.

"We are extremely sorry we have not been able to get visas," the club said.

"Unfortunately this has proved to be impossible, as there is a processing time of several weeks and the match was only finally decided a week ago," they added.

Said and Jatta have each scored once in the two qualifying ties so far this season played by Viborg, who last competed in Europe after winning the Danish Cup in 2000, their only major domestic trophy.

"It is very unfortunate purely sportingly, as both players would have had a role in the match," said Viborg sporting director Jesper Fredberg.

"But it is even more unfortunate, purely humanly, that the two miss out on the great experience."

West Ham have defender Thilo Kehrer available to make his debut for the club after the Germany international signed for the Hammers from Paris St-Germain on Wednesday.

Morocco international Nayef Aguerd remains sidelined following surgery on an ankle injury he sustained during a pre-season friendly against Rangers, while fellow centre-back Angelo Ogbonna is not ready to return from anterior cruciate ligament damage and fellow defender Craig Dawson is a doubt.

Left-back Aaron Cresswell and manager David Moyes are suspended for the first leg. Moyes apologised for kicking a ball at a ball boy after he was sent off after his side's Europa League semi-final defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Cresswell was shown a red card during their acrimonious loss and captain and England international Declan Rice is banned from playing in the tie after an angry rant at the referee.

Manuel Lanzini, Tomas Soucek or Flynn Downes could replace Rice in midfield, although first team coach Billy McKinlay said a decision on who will take the armband is yet to be made in the absence of vice-captain Cresswell.

"A little bit of rest will be a positive of him not playing but we look forward to getting him back," McKinlay said of Rice.

"You have to take advantage of whatever scenario, whether good or bad."

West Ham are are targeting another run in Europe after reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League in May.

"We're hungry and expecting to do well and go far in competitions," added McKinlay.

"We're always under pressure - we're a big club with big support."

The second leg will take place in Viborg next Thursday, with the winners joining the group stage of the competition when it begins on 8 September.

Brighton scored two goals from two shots on target to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with victory at West Ham (0-2), who remain without a league goal or a point.

Alexis Mac Allister scored the opener from the penalty spot after West Ham summer signing Thilo Kehrer brought down Danny Welbeck just inside the area on his Premier League debut.

The Hammers started the second half brightly but were undone when Leandro Trossard latched on to Pascal Gross's flick to inflict a third straight league defeat on the hosts.

Afterwards, Hammers boss David Moyes said he was "concerned" by his side's start to the campaign.

"We've not quite got everything in place," he said. "Hopefully our quality will show through in the coming weeks."

To say alarm bells were ringing would be "too strong", Moyes added. "We finished seventh, then sixth, and we take positives from that. We've lost a wee bit. We need to get away from that position.

"Last year we were one of the top goalscorers. But we are struggling a bit for goals. We're aware we are not as free-flowing as we have been.

"I am concerned, but also I'm having to bed people in."

West Ham have now had 38 shots in their opening three league games without scoring a goal.

They had their chances on Sunday, but Aaron Cresswell's fierce effort was well blocked by Joel Veltman, before Robert Sanchez produced two acrobatic saves late on to keep out two Tomas Soucek headers.

Meanwhile, Brighton have equalled their longest unbeaten run in the top flight at eight games, stretching back to the end of last season.

The Seagulls have moved up to fourth this term, while the Hammers are rooted to the foot of the table after losing their first three games without scoring for only the second time in their history.

is Moyes under a bit of pressure here?

Three league games. No wins and no goals.

is Moyes under a bit of pressure here?

Three league games. No wins and no goals.

1 win in the last 10 league games. Really poor form from bank end of last season and into this one.

West Ham are set to sign left-back Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea in a deal worth £15m.

The 28-year-old Italy international spent last season on loan at Lyon and has struggled to become a regular at Stamford Bridge since his 2018 move from Roma.

Emerson is set to complete a medical on Tuesday before the move across London is confirmed.

The Euro 2020 winner would become West Ham's seventh signing of the summer.

David Moyes' side are currently bottom of the Premier League with no points from three matches.

The Hammers' biggest signings have been striker Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo for £30m, defender Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for £30m and forward Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for £17.5m.

They have also signed midfielder Flynn Downes from Swansea for £12m, and defender Thilo Kehrer and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, each for a reported £10m from Paris St-Germain.

BREAKING: West Ham have made a bid worth £33.7m for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

They are also keeping an eye on Connor Gallagher's situation at Chelsea. If he is allowed to leave, the Hammers are very interested in doing a deal.

West Ham put their poor Premier League form behind them to reach the group stage of the Europa Conference League.

The Hammers, who have lost their opening three domestic games, demolished Viborg 6-1 on aggregate in the play-off round.

Leading 3-1 from the first leg, David Moyes' side extended their lead on aggregate through Italy forward Gianluca Scamacca in Denmark.

Said Benrahma made it 2-0 on the night before Tomas Soucek added a third.

The Hammers will discover their group-stage opponents on Friday, with Moyes' side now facing six Europa Conference League games between 8 September and 3 November.

This was a welcome win for Moyes and his players, who are bottom of the Premier League table without a point or a goal.

They have lost to Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton but made easy work of seeing off Viborg, who are sixth in Denmark's top flight.

Scamacca struck at the near post from a cross for his second goal in West Ham colours since joining in a £30.5m deal from Sassuolo last month.

Algeria winger Benrahma raced onto Maxwel Cornet's forward pass to slot into the far corner to make it 2-0.

The Czech Republic midfielder Soucek struck from close range to seal an emphatic aggregate win for last season's Europa League semi-finalists.

West Ham have reached a verbal agreement with Lyon to sign Lucas Paquetá after days of negotiations. Personal terms have also been verbally agreed and a deal is now in its final stages.

West Ham are on the brink of completing a £36.5m deal for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

The 25-year-old is due to have a medical on Sunday before completing the switch from French club Lyon.

The deal for Paqueta also includes a potential £14.4m in add-ons which, if triggered, would turn the transfer into a club record for the Hammers.

Paqueta, who will sign a five-year deal, joined Lyon for 20m euros (£17m) from AC Milan in 2020.

He is expected to be part of the Brazil squad for this year's World Cup.

Paqueta scored nine goals and contributed six assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

He has scored seven times in 33 games for Brazil and played for Lyon against West Ham in last season's Europa League quarter-final, which the Hammers won 4-1 on aggregate.

He has scored 21 times and contributed 14 assists in his 80 appearances for Lyon.

Hammers boss David Moyes spoke this week about the difficulties he has encountered signing players this summer as he bids to maintain momentum at a club gearing up for another European campaign, although Paqueta would be the club's eighth signing of the summer.

West Ham earned their first win of the season as Pablo Fornals' deflected second-half strike gave them victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Villa had a first-half goal disallowed with Lucas Digne's corner having gone out of play before Ezri Konsa tapped the ball home.

West Ham improved in the second half and could have opened the scoring when Jarrod Bowen broke away on the counter, but the winger was denied by a well-timed Digne tackle.

But 16 minutes from time, Fornals' shot struck Konsa and looped over Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and proved enough to kick-start the Hammers' season.

The win lifts West Ham off the foot of the table and up to 17th, level on points with Villa in 16th.

West Ham came from behind at home to beat Romanian side FCSB 3-1 in their Europa Conference League Group B opener.

The hosts dominated possession from the outset but fell behind in the 34th minute when Andrei Cordea scored at the far post.

Jarrod Bowen equalised after the break with a well-taken penalty after Maxwel Cornet had been fouled.

Emerson then struck from close range to make it 2-1, before Michail Antonio scored a late third.

West Ham could have added even more goals in a strong second-half showing, with Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Antonio all denied.

David Moyes' side have made a poor start to the Premier League season with just one win in six games but this was their third successive win in Europe after victories in qualifying.

<b>West Ham 3-1 Fulham</b>

Gianluca Scamacca scored for a third successive game as West Ham came from behind to beat Fulham.

Fulham led after six minutes as Andreas Pereira fired in from a tight angle.

But Pereira then fouled Craig Dawson from a corner, Jarrod Bowen scoring the penalty.

Scamacca missed a series of good chances but netted when it counted as he lobbed Bernd Leno, before a defensive mix-up presented Michail Antonio with the third.

Fulham took the lead with the first major attack of the game - Kurt Zouma failed to close down Pereira on the left side of the West Ham box, and the Brazilian beat Łukasz Fabianski for power with his shot high into the net from a tight angle.

In an entertaining first half full of chances, Daniel James cracked the crossbar from 20 yards with a dipping left foot shot, before Scamacca missed a trio of opportunities to draw West Ham level.

The Hammers equalised instead from the penalty spot, with Pereira going from hero to villain as he barged Dawson to the floor from a corner. Bowen slotted the spot kick to Bernd Leno's right.

Scamacca missed another headed chance from six yards, however he finally found the net in superb fashion by chipping Leno, with the goal given after a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) check.

He was replaced by Antonio with 10 minutes to go, and the sub finished the game in comical fashion - after his initial shot was saved by Leno, the German keeper and Tim Ream got in each other's way trying to clear, inadvertently presenting the striker with an open goal to finish.

Having had to bide his time following his £32m move from Sassuolo in the summer, Scamacca now has six goals in 12 games for West Ham.

After netting against Wolves last weekend and the winner against Anderlecht on Thursday, the Italian was the Hammers' main man once again.

He could - perhaps should - have scored several more.

On 16 minutes he headed down a driven Paqueta cross from eight yards while unmarked which, while Leno brilliantly scooped it out from near his boot, he should have guided further away from the keeper.

Before the 25th minute Scamacca had missed two more chances, dragging a one on one narrowly wide of the far post before sending another header straight at Leno.

Five minutes after the break he missed another free header, this time from only six yards - yet when the toughest chance came, after being put through by Paqueta with a lovely chipped through ball, he kept his nerve to scoop it over the goalie.

Scamacca did not immediately celebrate and was subjected to a VAR check of several minutes, which looked at whether he was offside or had handled the ball.

With no clear evidence to disallow for either reason, the goal was given - and the Italian finally celebrated wildly with fans.

It encapsulated Scamacca's Premier League career so far - a slow start peppered with what-ifs, finally coming good.

He is the first West Ham striker to score in his opening two home starts at London Stadium - fans will hope the club's recent poor run of forward signings is at an end.

For West Ham it continues their dominance over Fulham - they have won their last five Premier League games against the Cottagers, while David Moyes has now won 14 of his 15 games against them.

It also means they have won consecutive league matches for the first time since January, further raising hopes a difficult start is behind them.

<b>West Ham 0-2 Brentford</b>

West Ham suffered their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat after being well beaten at home by Brentford.

Ivan Toney put the visitors ahead with his 12th league goal of the season, before Josh DaSilva doubled the lead.

The Hammers were booed by a frustrated London Stadium crowd, with this defeat keeping them only one point above the relegation zone.

The game also ended on a sour note for Brentford, as Toney was taken off on a stretcher with a knee injury.

Victory sees the Bees rise to ninth in the Premier League.

<b>Hammers hit five-year low</b>

Not since a run between March and April 2017, under the management of Slaven Bilic, have West Ham lost five consecutive games in the league.

Five-and-a-half years later, West Ham have enjoyed many highs under the management of David Moyes - however this defeat puts the Scotsman's role under serious question.

It is not just the fact of another defeat, but the manner in which the goals were conceded.

Both first-half goals came from West Ham failing to properly defend throw-ins, and both came after periods in the game when they had enjoyed good attacking spells.

The opener arrived in the 18th minute, where a straightforward long throw by Mathias Jensen was flicked on by Mathias Jorgensen. Christian Norgaard hit his swivelling volley well, and after it was saved by Lukasz Fabianski, Toney reacted first to follow up and stab home.

The second, shortly before half-time, was even worse from a West Ham perspective. Toney played a simple lobbed ball over the top of the sleeping home defence from a throw-in near the halfway line.

Da Silva outmuscled and outpaced Aaron Cresswell to streak through and slot past Fabianski for his first goal since August.

These teams will meet again in the FA Cup third round on 7 January. Whether Moyes remains in post for that fixture remains to be seen.

West Ham have signed Aston Villa striker Danny Ings in a £15m deal.

The Hammers have paid an initial £12m for the 30-year-old, which will rise to £15m if David Moyes' side avoid relegation from the Premier League.

West Ham said paperwork was submitted to the Premier League by 12:00 GMT and as a result they expect Ings to be available to face Everton on Saturday.

Ings joins on a deal running until 2025 after almost 18 months at Villa, who he joined for £25m in August 2021.

His arrival comes as Moyes revealed Italian Gianluca Scamacca will be out for a "short time" with a knee injury, leaving Michail Antonio as the only other fit striker in the Hammers squad.

"I'm really excited to join West Ham United," said Ings.

"It's important I settle in as quickly as I can do - and do the important stuff on the pitch for West Ham.

"We've got some massive games ahead of us - and I've come here to try and score as many goals as I can to help the team to get some positive results."

West Ham say farewell to David Gold

The result was at least fitting on the day West Ham paid tribute to joint chairman David Gold, who died on 4 February.

Born in the shadow of Upton Park, a lifelong fan of the club and a player in his schooldays, Gold was viewed as the least problematic of an ownership group many fans do not like.

The stadium was full and paid a respectful tribute to Gold before the game, with sporting director Mark Noble laying a wreath on behalf of the club before kick-off, flanked by Gold's daughters, Jacqueline and Vanessa.

A video of Gold's journey from childhood poverty - "I only wanted to own a bike" - to football club owner was greeted with warm applause.

Michail Antonio says there is a possibility he could leave West Ham in the January transfer window.

Antonio, 32, who joined the Hammers from Nottingham Forest for £7m in 2015, confirmed he had been in contact with other clubs.

Speaking on The Footballer's Football Podcast, the forward said: "Honestly, I've not ruled anything out. That's all I can say.

"Nothing has been ruled out. There are talks, so whatever happens, happens."

Antonio became West Ham's top scorer in the Premier League in August 2021 with his 48th top-flight goal breaking Paolo di Canio's club record.

He has been linked with Julen Lopetegui's Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as a loan move to Chelsea.

Reports suggest West Ham are open to selling the Jamaica international, but do not want to loan him out.

Team news - West Ham unchanged; first Chelsea start for Madueke
West Ham v Chelsea (12:30 GMT)

West Ham are unbeaten in their last three league and cup games so unsurprisingly boss David Moyes names an unchanged side.

Germany defender Thilo Kehrer was doubtful with an injury but starts.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Kehrer, Ogbonna, Aguerd, Coufal, Lucas Paqueta, Rice, Emerson Palmieri, Bowen, Benrahma, Antonio.

Substitutes: Johnson, Fornals, Lanzini, Downes, Ings, Soucek, Hegyi, Anang.

West Ham suffer Paqueta blow
When these two clubs previously met, at Stamford Bridge last September, Hammers boss David Moyes was left furious by a "scandalous" decision to rule out a 90th-minute West Ham equaliser.

Once again they had another late goal chalked off as Soucek's finish was disallowed but there were were few complaints from the Hammers bench this time as replays showed it was clearly offside.

Instead, it was Chelsea who were aggrieved at the end after appeals for a penalty after Soucek's handball were waved away.

After a long season of struggle, West Ham are showing signs of fight near the bottom of the table.

They head to Tottenham for another London derby on 19 February on the back of a four-match unbeaten run after following up a 1-1 draw at Newcastle with another gritty performance.

Whether Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta features against Tottenham remains to be seen.

The 25-year-old, one of West Ham's better performers this season, went off early with a suspected shoulder injury, and Moyes will hope it is not too serious as his side look to climb away from trouble.

Danny Ings' first goals for West Ham proved the launching pad for a huge 4-0 win as David Moyes' side pulled themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Ings, a £15m signing from Aston Villa in January, proved the difference with two identical goals in three second-half minutes as the Hammers capped a much-improved display with a potentially significant three points.

The former Liverpool and Burnley striker was quiet for large periods but his clinical finishes settled the nerves around London Stadium and ensured that the hosts could kick on to an eventual thumping victory.

Further goals from captain Declan Rice and substitute Michail Antonio sent the home fans away smiling on a rare goal-filled afternoon.

Forest, who have only managed three goals away from home all campaign, were lifeless throughout in a disappointing display.

West Ham have shown "strength, character and discipline" to pull away from the Premier League drop zone, says former defender Matthew Upson.

They battled back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.

David Moyes' men now sit four points clear of the relegation zone with a game in hand.

The Hammers have lost just one of their past five league games, reviving their hopes of staying up.

Victories over Southampton and Fulham in recent weeks have helped West Ham to climb further away from the drop zone.

They have picked up eight points from their past five games, compared to just 23 from their previous 25 before then.

"The two wins West Ham had against Southampton and Fulham were just colossal, at a moment where they just had to win, otherwise they would have been really, really struggling," Upson said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"They've ground it out and what David Moyes brings is he's got that strength, that character, that discipline, and West Ham played like that today.

"Yes, there were mistakes and they haven't been good enough with the ball but they've got a bit of steel about them and I think that runs through the club and the squad from the manager down."

West Ham are still in the Europa Conference League and host Gent in their quarter-final second leg on Thursday, having drawn the first match 1-1 in Belgium.

More like it from them today.

Keep playing like that and they'll be comfortably safe from relegation.

West Ham goalscorer Michail Antonio speaking after the game: "It has been a long hard season, it draws us away from the pack. It's a good turn around from the week and we keep the momentum going as obviously we are trying to win the [Conference League] cup.

"It has clicked overall and since the start of the year our performances have become more all round. This last month can become unbelievable, I feel another win secures Premier League for next year."

On his opener: "Basically they are doing zonal marking and normally I am on the keeper and I thought I would get on the end of something, it was a great day and great performance and we move onto the next."

On Pablo Fornals' 'scorpion' strike: "It was unbelievable. It has dropped perfectly for him to do it, hopefully I will be the next one to do it."

There is a "good chance" that West Ham captain Declan Rice will leave at the end of the season, manager David Moyes has admitted.

The midfielder's contract is set to expire in 2024, although the Hammers have an option to extend that by a further year.

So far, Rice, 24, has rejected all efforts to get him to sign an extension amid interest from virtually all of England's top clubs.

"We hope Dec stays," Moyes said.

"We would love him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case. That is one of the scenarios.

"Our plans are to have Dec here but we are also fully aware there is a good chance that we won't have him."

I'm sure there will be a host of big clubs looking to sign him - excellent footballer.

Moyes gambles and West Ham fall flat

Before kick-off, Moyes said his selection was made with "one eye on Thursday" but added "it is about picking up points".

His side never looked like picking up anything from this game.

They were sloppy in possession and showed a lack of energy, certainly until they went two goals behind.

Ings saw an effort saved moments the Hammers went two down, and they may well bemoan the decision to disallow his goal, with the ball hitting Divin Mubama's hand after Benrahma's cross hit the post.

It has been a frustrating campaign for West Ham but with another season of Premier League football practically guaranteed and a first major trophy in 43 years still available, it could turn into a successful one.

They may have to do both without Michail Antonio, who was absent with a calf injury, with Moyes saying "he couldn't say much more than that".

AZ Alkmaar say their Europa Conference League semi-final against West Ham is "a night to reflect on with shame" after a section of the stadium where away fans were sitting was attacked.

Several West Ham players confronted the group of fans that had targeted an area containing their friends and family.

AZ said in a statement of apology: "Unfortunately, we cannot use the word 'supporters' for these people."

The club said they will "evaluate" the incident.

"While everyone hoped for a historic European match, it turned into a pitch black evening due to the events occurring at the referee's final whistle," AZ's statement added.

"It turned into a night to reflect on with shame. Not because of the football game played, but because of the behaviour of some visitors.

"What happened is beyond all bounds. The club again sincerely apologises to West Ham and the thousands of well minded AZ supporters who have also been inconvenienced by the misconduct.

"AZ is a civilised club where sportsmanship and norms and values are paramount. The club will do everything possible, together with the authorities involved, to identify these persons and to take appropriate measures."

'There were stewards but no police'

A West Ham supporter sat in the area attacked by AZ fans said there were no police nearby and stewards could not cope, describing the incident at the AFAS Stadion as "scary".

"There were stewards there but no police to stop them," Russell Raphael told the BBC News Channel.

"More than 30 of them in balaclavas somehow breached their area and were running towards us.

"Some very brave West Ham fans, about 10 rows to our right, were doing their best to stop them, the stewards were doing their best.

"The players instead of celebrating with the main away support panicked and saw their families being threatened, so they very understandably ran to get involved.

"These [fans in] balaclavas, hooded, all dressed in black, it is a scary thing and we were very lucky not to be physically involved."

Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma were among the players who tried to intervene, while the 87-year-old father of West Ham manager David Moyes was reportedly sat in the stands in the Netherlands.

It is understood the families of the players were unharmed.

West Ham won the game 1-0 for a 3-1 aggregate victory.

"The security going in was fine. You expect to be herded like cattle in these away games, that's the way it is," added Raphael, who watched the match with his son, Aidan.

"They kept us back for a long time after the game and there was a lot of police going out. I didn't feel in danger around the ground. In the ground it was just stewards who were clearly unable to cope with what was going on.

"It must have taken 10 minutes for the police to arrive."

European football's governing body Uefa will review reports of the incidents before deciding on any action.

Dutch police said they were investigating footage of the incident but no arrests had been made.

'There was nothing we could do' - Moyes
"I was disappointed because I felt like it took the attention off the team and what we did," said Moyes on Friday.

"There was nothing we could do, or that West Ham as a club could do. Like anyone, if you saw your family members in trouble then you'd go and help out and that was the situation.

"Unfortunately it's taken up a lot of the news and time. But we're not letting it take away from the fact we reached the final, which is a brilliant achievement."

AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen said he was "a little bit ashamed" that the incident had happened in their stadium, while Pantelis Hatzidiakos was one of several AZ players who condemned the violence.

"I think it's sad what happened. My family was up there. I have been in contact with them and my girlfriend said they were shaking," the Greece defender told Dutch television.

"I don't even call them supporters. Just stay home if you have such intentions."

Fiorentina 1-2 West Ham: Jarrod Bowen's late goal clinches Europa Conference League glory for Hammers

Jarrod Bowen's last-minute goal clinched Europa Conference League glory for West Ham with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the final in Prague.

Bowen latched onto Lucas Paqueta's pass and fired home a low finish to spark delirious West Ham celebrations at the Fortuna Arena and secure the club's first piece of major silverware in 43 years.

Earlier, Said Benrahma's 62nd-minute penalty had been cancelled out by a quickfire strike by Giacomo Bonaventura, but David Moyes' side showed impressive resilience, withstanding heavy pressure at times during the game and then striking in the 90th minute.

The victory ends a wait of more than four decades for major silverware and means they have won a European trophy for the second time in their history following the club's UEFA Cup Winners' Cup triumph in 1965. It also guarantees their place in next year's Europa League following a 14th-placed Premier League finish.

Well done David Moyes and West Ham, a brilliant end to the season and a great night for them.

West Ham have rejected a bid of £90m from Treble winners Manchester City for captain Declan Rice.

City's offer was thought to have included an £80m initial payment but is short of the £100m the Hammers want.

Arsenal are expected to make a third bid for the 24-year-old England midfielder.

The Gunners' second proposal of an initial £75m in four payments, plus £15m in add-ons, was turned down by West Ham last week.

Rice's contract with the Hammers expires in 2024, although it has the option for a one-year extension until the summer of 2025.

Following the club's Europa Conference League victory over Fiorentina earlier this month, chairman David Sullivan said he was "99%" sure Rice would leave West Ham this summer.

Although they have lined up Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic in a £25m deal, the loss of Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona means City manager Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his midfield options, with Rice viewed as the ideal candidate.
