What's new

West Indies reach 49/1 at Stumps on Day 4, with 280 runs needed to win the 2nd Test against Pakistan

WI aint chasing this down. Babar is even more negative skipper then misbah

Good innings overall for Pak in context of the game. Bowlers need to take it home

Don't know why people are crying- 30 odd overs today and 90 tomorrow.
If we can't bowl them out in near 4 sessions we don't deserve to win. Nothing negative about it at all.
Pakistan scored at a surprisingly brisk pace.

what a waste of time that was. Thank god he got out.

lets hope we get 3 wickets before close of play now.

Big chance for Shaheen to get his first 10fer in a match. Pak needs to get 2-3 wickets today

for real, its like every word he says has a suppresed "mmmm" pronounced underneath it. really strange.

was a big fan of badree the cricketer, but not on the mic.

And he actually speaks fine normally. But on commentary, he seems to drag the words and keeps repeating the same sentences on autoplay.

I think we will get around 21-22 overs today. As bad light usually creeps in around 5:30 PM (1.5 hours away) Jamaica time.

Babar with some motivational talk in the team circle by his expression and body language

Referring straight-forward stumping appeals too

That's pretty standard though isn't it? Nearly every single run out and stumping is referred unless you're really not in the frame.

I’m fearing for Pak . Can’t handle pressure… one windies partnership and babar will lose the plot… just like last game…

As per Bishop these are the most overs bowled in the history of test cricket without a spinner taking wicket.

303 more runs are needed from around 120 overs.

Pakistan probably would want to get at least 2 wickets today.

I think even if we draw this match then it still wont be that bad.

We won 1 match which was the T20 and West Indies won 1 test match

This means Pakistan has drawn The Tour.

You have to look at the overall picture sometimes.

Windies are not chasing this .. High probability of Pak winning this .. very small possibility of a draw ( if it rains)..

Thats really lazy stuff from Powell. Didnt even press his bat down

Wow, what a huge blunder by WI and just the break Pakistan needed. Excellent job by Rizwan.

Pakistan need to be patient here , WI do not have batting class to win this game. They will lose wickets

Even if you get one more wicket in the next 12 mins then that would suffice, 8 wickets on the last day is achievable.

Pak will ideally wanna see the back of Kraigg tonight.

On day 4, a wearing wicket where the ball stays low our wicket keeper should be a few steps ahead.

Otherwise the slips stay back and potentially many balls will fall short of any edge.

This is exactly what happened off Faheem bowling.

Our cricket still lacks killer instinct and match awareness. You can’t teach this aspect of the game.

Overall a really good day for Pak. Bowlers need to try and take it home tmw

I reckon i'll take this, still a very big mountain to climb

Pakistan should target 3-4 wickets in that 1st session.

Brathwaite, Blackwood and Chase will be key other than that their batsmen are pretty ordinary.

Nauman Ali will be key. Also a well rested Shaheen Shah will be important again.

The wicket seems to have flattened now with not much for the pacers. For some reason Babar seems reluctant to bowl spinners.

I think had Babar made that decision in the previous match Pak could've won.

You should look to do something out of the box and Numan is a decent spinner they should've trialed him tonight.

Anyways Pak bowlers will get a rest, new ball in the morning and so get to work.

The best batters have been Kraigg, Holder, Chase and Blackwood. Pak get those wickets then WI will crumble.

This ones in the melting pot with all three results possible. We did the right thing declaring when we did even if it risks us losing the second test too. The run out was a splendid piece of fielding from the boundary line. Batsman seemed to have a taken a leaf out of Inzi's running between the wickets tactics:faf Weather permitting I feel we'll take this one, fingers crescented!

I would have liked 2 wickets at the end of play.i think it's going to go til the last hour of play.

Shaheen is owning this test match. I saw that big swinging yorker for one wicket- isn't that what fans said was missing from his game. I guess swinging it in as reliably as Boult or someone is the next challenge.

Spinners haven't had an impact so far- a good test for Nauman if he can be effective on a less responsive pitch than home tracks.

I don't think Nauman will run through them alone but if all the quicks chip in or Shaheen bosses again it should be a Pakistan victory.

I think Pakistan have read the opposition well. Will they give the same target to any other opposition e.g. Australia or India?

A career best performance from Shaheen Afridi and a rapid innings with the bat from Pakistan has set up what looks likely to be an enthralling final day to the series.

Bowled out for 150 shortly after lunch on day four, West Indies finished the day at 49/1 in their second innings, chasing 329 to win. Going into the final day’s play, both teams will believe they can win the match from here.

Afridi was the star of the day, taking 6/51 before Pakistan's batters freed their arms.

Needing to force a result to level the series, Pakistan approached their second innings like it was an ODI, racing to 176/6 in just 27.2 overs before declaring.

Earlier, West Indies started the day in trouble at 39/3 and their situation looked set to deteriorate quickly when Afridi drew an edge from nightwatchman Alzarri Joseph (4) that was pouched impressively by Babar Azam low to his left at third slip. Joseph was the third batter out to Afridi for the innings, with the gun quick accounting for both openers on day three.

The situation improved for West Indies as Nkrumah Bonner (37) and Jermaine Blackwood (33) put on a steady 60-run stand to take them past 100. Unfortunately for Kraigg Brathwaite’s side, the duo’s hard work came undone across two overs.

Bonner was the first of the pair out, edging a cunning bit of bowling from Mohammad Abbas (3/44) behind, with the wily seamer getting a ball on off-stump to straighten just enough. Abbas struck again on his very next ball, nicking off Kyle Mayers for a golden duck.

It was officially a collapse when Afridi bounced out Blackwood with a ball that ballooned off the outside shoulder of the bat to be taken by Fawad Alam - the star of day three diving back and to his right to take a good catch at gully. From 105/4, West Indies had slipped to 109/7.

Abbas chimed in again to trap Joshua Da Silva in front for six before Afridi wrapped up a six-wicket haul with the dismissals of Jason Holder (26) and Kemar Roach (8) to end West Indies’ innings early in the second session, giving Pakistan a lead of 152.

Pakistan have bowled out West Indies for 150 and take a 152 run lead into their second innings.

Having lost the first Test, Pakistan adopted a cavalier approach in their second innings. By the time Abid Ali (29) fell to Joseph (2/24) in the 10th over, they had already added 70 to their score. Imran Butt (37), Azhar Ali (22) and Azam (33) all managed contributions at strike rates of better than 70, with the promoted Hasan Ali hitting two sixes on his way to 17 off 11. Hasan and Abid were among four Pakistani batters to score at better than a run a ball as Azam declared 10 overs into the evening session.

West Indies finished the day with nine wickets in hand, needing another 280 runs to win. They enjoyed a solid start to their innings as Brathwaite and Kieran Powell added 34 runs for the first wicket before the latter was run out by a direct hit from Afridi from the boundary's edge. Powell paid the price for not sliding his bat, run out at the striker's end by what looked like an innocuous throw.

Brathwaite (17*) and Joseph (8*) will resume play on day five with all four results possible.

It is to a great extent. But surely the umpires should be able to take calls on appeals that even people sitting at home can tell are not out. Even Braithwaite, who was bowling had gone up to his run-up.

Thanks :djb
