What's new

West Indies v Pakistan | 1st Test | Sabina Park, Kingston | Apr 21-25, 2017 | Day 1

Chase is an absolute beast player of spin. The way he negotiated Ashwin and Jaddu at peak to save that Test was remarkable.

Good session for Pakistan but job is not done yet. Need to keep Windies under 200. Won't be easy for our batsmen to cross 200 runs here.

Second ball after play resumes and a wicket. Great start to the session, should be looking to dismiss Windies for under 150.

Team Man is a valuable slip catcher.

Imagine if :hafeez was there instead.

Hopefully one of replacements for Younis/Misbah is a reliable slip catcher too.

"For those of you who have been asked. Dug out some speed data on Abbas: he's ranged from around 81-85mph" - Cricinfo

Abbas barely touching 130 km/h.

Must be tiring down.

You seem to have some grudges against Abbas. You were constantly hyping that giant Tanvir like trundler so much that many of the posters got extremely excited and then only to be disappointed when they saw him live.
Abbas has been pretty impressive on his debut. And pace does not matter when one has swing and accuracy.

The fact that you think that Mohammad Irfan Jr is a Tanvir clone means you have absolutely no ability to judge a prospect.

Mohammad Irfan is currently generating all his pace from his shoulders. With the refinement of his action he ca easily reach 140 km/h.

The same was said about Imran Khan and look at how he got eaten alive in Australia.

Abbas is decent but no long term prospect.

To be fair, Irfan Jr. is as mediocre he gets. Has no control whatsoever, bad line and length, wayward, ugly action, no swing, no seam, absolutely nothing. He doesn't have pace either. Bowling 140 KPH isn't much, especially when you are that bad at everything else.

Phassst Wahab being smashed to all parts as usual.

Yasir shah seems to have lost it after the first test against England last year. Literally

Since Amir is regular now, its even more important to have Duke ball in UAE, he can exploit it better than others. I am sure Shadab and Hasan would not mind bowling with Duke(it has better seam), both will like seam that takes time to fade away. There is no reason to continue with Kokabara in home test. Can somebody explain me why we have been using Kokabara??

With the refinement of action or by doing this or that, please keep these hopes away.
And suppose if Irfan is able to bowl above 140s,what will happen. In the PSL matches,he was not moving the ball by an inch.We do not want another Wahab or Sami.

Can someone please tell me why do we keep on Playing Wahab ???

Guy is as mediocre as it gets !!! #smh

Aqib Javed said that Irfan is right arm version of Sohail Tanveer. Please stop hyping these nothing players.

Speed map thus far, Cricinfo has all the details :)

Amir ~ 84-88 MPH
Wahab 86-91 MPH
Abbas 82-85 MPH (not bad)

Yasir and Wahab not looking on form at all. Both should he under pressure for there places.

Err, he was seaming the ball in the PSL.

Irfan is extremely raw and is at least 3-4 years being considered for the national side.

He isn't the finished product, just wait and watch.

You do realize that he has had no proper coaching and used to work as a mechanic/medicine salesman before the Jazz Rising Star Talent hunt, right? Also, he's only 21. I wouldn't call him mediocre, I'd call him raw, with a lot of room for improvement. Exciting nonetheless.

I did not know that. Has he played First Class before and why is he not part of the Pakistan Cup?

No upcoming pacer is in the Pakistan Cup.

Ahmed Bashir, Ehtisham Sultan etc. all missing.

It's actually better - I have seen few matches by parts on that wicket, if any young bowler is tried, Inzi'll find excuse to keep Gul & Tanvir comfortable for another 5 years.

On a serious note, I think Adil has improved, while Sameen will definitely bowl better than what Wahab is doing here, with a bit of mentoring.

Pathetic from PCB to not include them. Was really looking forward to watch Sultan.
To be fair Sultan has just recently returned to cricket.

Younus Khan selected him for Abbotabad back when he was 19, bowled an over and hasn't played a game since.

I like Sameen has that attitude about him and that too at a brisk age.

He's accurate and bowls at a good click.

Unless, he is brought to National set up by 2017, he'll end up as another Asad Ali. I keep telling that Imran's scouting is the only way - find out "boys" who are skilled in "teen age", mentor them for couple of years, some of them will serve for 10-12 years (and lose appetite to retire by 31-32, that's couple years younger than what Wahab, Gul & Sohail's "age" now). This guy Abbas could have been quite handy by now, had he debuted at 21 like Hasan Ali, instead of "27 years & 42 days".

Fast bowling is extremely physical, only part of cricket that needs the physical condition of other modern games - here, 35 has to be biological 35, at an age when Holding, Lillee & Marshall retired from FC Cricket.

I think pressure on Yasir Shah due to Shadab's presence in the squad causing issues

Yasir & Wahab is allowing the game to drift away by gifting easy runs, once you get a side 5 down by lunch, first thing need to do is earn them every run, these 2 are going at 4/over when other 2 at 1.7

MenInG Well you know what they say if u can't handle the heat then get out of the kitchen. Yasir should rise to this challenge.

Nah, that kind of pressure might add a bit of nerves at the start of a test but it's a non-factor once you're into the game.

Yasir has had a few injury niggles over the last year or so and that's affected him more than anything else. He was rubbish in Australia and there was no Shadab hype at that time.

Roston has us chasing this game. :murali

ash take lot of wkt here but best bowler of world geeting smashed loll...

Two things:

1) It's the first day of the first test on a quick bowlers pitch.

2) Rahat Ali isn't playing so I don't know where you're getting this best bowler in the world rubbish from.

Enough of this Wahab's crap , he is been mediocre for most of his career. Need to go with Hasan Ali in the next match

50 odd overs into a test series and people are already writing off poor Yasir Shah. Give the guy a break.

Flat pitch now looks like.

Easy to bat on.

Too bad, West Indies lost half of its side to the new ball.

I've long ran out of patience with Wahab. He seems to have been given golden boy treatment because of his supposed "aggression" and Pakistan's long love affair with pace, but where are the wickets ?

Seems good for one decent spell every so often but I'd rather see us introduce a pacer with more consistency. You ain't gonna teach a 33 year old bowler new tricks, still there are problems with his wrist position and control.
