It doesn't seem long ago when the Indian players were gearing up for the challenge of facing England in their own turf. But such is the hectic schedule that it feels as if the Indian set-up is akin to a train chugging along from one station to another without any break. After playing six limited overs games in England followed by an ODI series in the West Indies, the next stop for the Indian team is a T20I series against the Caribbean side.

Once again the narrative surrounding the T20I rubber, starting with the first game at the Brian Lara stadium, would be about testing different players in order to pick a formidable squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia. Despite the hectic schedule, India have done remarkably well to not get hit by the inconsistency bug in England and the West Indies so far. With so many matches being played, the think tank has looked to rotate the players. Among those players returning to the set-up, the onus will be firmly on R Ashwin. The off-spinner needs enough arrows in his quiver to survive in an era where spinners who bowl quick through the air and zoom the ball on the stumps are preferred in the shortest format.

India also would prefer some variety in their pace attack for the T20 World Cup. So Arshdeep Singh could be given a few opportunities. The left-arm bowler did show encouraging signs in the only T20I he played in England by generating swing with the batch of white Kookaburra balls that were used for that series. Avesh Khan, who failed to adjust to the slow nature of the pitch at Port of Spain in the ODIs, would be hoping to erase those memories and find his rhythm in the shortest format.

Since India's failure in the T20 World Cup last year, the think tank has tried to turbo-charge the batting unit by giving a booster shot. Nothing encapsulated the point more than Rohit Sharma attempting a wild slog across the line while playing David Willey in the second T20I in England. The India skipper, though, couldn't convert any of his starts into substantial scores in the T20Is in England, a point that he would look to rectify in the West Indies. Rishabh Pant's elevation to the top of the order in England also is an indicator about the direction that the Indian camp wants to take moving forward.

In the middle order, Suryakumar Yadav has showcased his ability to move back and across in order to take on the hard length with the pull while Deepak Hooda seems to have improved his range of shots through the off-side. Both of them have added depth to the middle order.

Meanwhile, their opponents, the West Indies, would hope for a quick lift after suffering a 3-0 drubbing in the ODIs. T20 cricket is also a format that suits their style of play. They did beat England in a T20I series earlier in the year and followed that by blanking Bangladesh 2-0.

Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, the returning Shimron Hetmyer, alongside the all-rounders - Odean Smith, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd - provide the West Indies with enough batting firepower. While Shamarh Brooks would be expected to anchor the innings. Alzarri Joseph will spearhead the pace attack, with Obed McCoy adding variety to the attack. Among the spinners, Akeal Hosein has bowled with control and also has a deceptive arm-ball. Hayden Walsh jnr is the second frontline spinner in the squad.

Shimron Hetmyer has returned to West Indies' squad

When: West Indies vs India, 1st T20I, July 29, 10.30 AM local

Where:Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad

What to expect: The stadium is yet to host an international match but enough CPL games have been played at the ground. The average first innings score is 141. So we could be in for a pitch on the slower side. June to December is generally the rainy season in Trinidad and Tobago and that could mean chances of rain showers.

Rohit: Ready to go. Good to have some time off. Pretty excited to get back and get things underway. First international game being played here, good to see the fans coming in large numbers. Facility looks good. Will have to look at how the wicket plays. Few guys have left, few have come back. Quite excited to get underway.

Pooran: Going to bowl first. Maybe there's something in the pitch. Nice to know what you're chasing. Looking forward to this series. We enjoy the format. We like to entertain. One spinner. Alzarri Joseph making his debut. Shimron Hetmyer back into the team.

India first put a competitive total on the board before their bowlers fired on all cylinders in Trinidad to help them take a 1-0 series lead.

Rohit's landmark half-century anchors India's innings

Put in to bat first, India had a new opening partnership, with Suryakumar Yadav walking out alongside Rohit Sharma. After a few brilliant shots, Yadav would walk back for 24 after being dismissed by Akeal Hosein. Shreyas Iyer could not open his account, as India lost two in the Powerplay.

The Indian captain though would keep ticking things nicely, notching up a landmark half-century. His fifty, the 31st of his career, took him past his compatriot Virat Kohli as the player with the most T20 international fifty-plus scores. He would be dismissed by Jason Holder on 64, but his knock had given India a solid platform. His knock also allowed him to surpass Martin Guptill as the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket.

West Indies keep the scoring in check before India accelerate

Despite Sharma's knock, West Indies ensured that the damage wasn't being done from both ends. They maintained a disciplined line and length and grabbed any opportunities they got on the field, ensuring that India's scoring rate never went into overdrive. The bowlers also got wickets at regular intervals, with none of India's middle-order batters being able to notch up a big score.

At 138/6 after 16 overs, India were behind the curve in terms of the target they wanted to set. But Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin would provide India with some great momentum in the final few overs.

Karthik, in particular, was in imperious form, playing his role of the finisher to perfection. 21 runs would come off the 19th over, followed by 15 in the final over, as Karthik ended with a knock of 41* off only 19. Ashwin also played his part, scoring 13 off 10, as India ended up with a total of 190/6.

Windies falter against spin

Kyle Mayers made his intent clear at the very start, going all guns blazing against the Indian pacers. He couldn't last long, as Arshdeep Singh set him up with a short delivery. The move to send Jason Holder backfired as he was cleaned up by Ravindra Jadeja.

Shamarh Brooks would be the next to depart, being bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ravichandran Ashwin also recovered from being hit for a few boundaries by getting the big scalp of Nicholas Pooran, as the hosts found themselves at 66/4.

It was a tall task for West Indies from here and the Indian spinners ensured that there was no miraculous chase on the cards. Ashwin would scalp another wicket, while Ravi Bishnoi would also bowl with great guile after being introduced into the attack.

West Indies' innings would come to a tepid end, as they would lose 8 wickets and fall short by 68 runs. With the massive victory, India went 1-0 ahead in the five-match series.

Disappointed to not see Ishan Kishan play. He did performed vs SA in T20 series and was the player of the series. No point trying different names at top order.

Bringing Ashwin back is a step backwards.

I don't see how he will be effective in Australia. You need wicket-takers in Aus not 0/27 in 4 overs from Ashwin.

Chahal, Axar & Bishnoi need to be first choice spinners in squad (not including Jadeja, as he will come in as batting AR with Pandya).

Kuldeep should be there.

Kuldeep has been out of action for too long and he's returning from injury. He may yet have some hope if he gets picked for Asia Cup and does well.

But Bishnoi seems to be ahead of him for now.

Unfortunately Pant fans do not see the facts and figures averaging 22 is ATG according to them and undroppable he needs to improve a lot in T20s.

The West Indies team have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first T20I against India in Trinidad on Friday.

Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after the West Indies were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Captain Nicholas Pooran plead guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Leslie Reifer and Nigel Duguid, third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and fourth umpire Patrick Gustard leveled the charge.

The Indian cricket team's last two games of the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies in the United States hangs in limbo as Cricket West Indies (CWI) is planning to hold the matches in the Caribbean due to visa issues. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the members of both the sides have not received their US visas as yet, forcing CWI to put in place an alternate plan.

Central Broward Park, Lauderhill, Florida in the US, was allotted to host the games on August 6 and 7 but as per the report many members of the Indian and West Indies squads have not received their US travel documents.

"Having the games in the Caribbean is not unlikelybut efforts are being made to resolve the visa issue," a source in West Indies cricket was quoted as saying by the website.

"The initial information was that the players would be handed the US travel documents in St Kitts where the teams have arrived. But there's a chance that the players may have to travel back to Trinidad for the visa documents and from there to the US if they obtain the all-clear." The CWI also confirmed the uncertainty over the Florida games.

West Indies vs India, 2nd T20I

West Indies have won the toss and have opted to field

Nic Pooran: We gonna have a bowl, wickets look nice and we will try and use our experience. We want to forget that game and believe in our process and execute our plans. Different conditions today and the guys are looking forward to whatever spin/seam attack they have. We have two changes. Keemo Paul and Brooks are out.

First ball duck for Rohit!

Rohit c Akeal Hosein b Obed McCoy 0(1)

Pandya since his comeback has scored most of his runs by playing proper cricketing shots. That inning in decider vs England was a really great change from Pandya's perspective and he seems to continue with that.

In T20, losing wickets earlier should not be mind much as long as the mindset is to bat aggressively and maximize the powerplays. You can always anchor the ship in middle overs because in T20s, the anchoring job is mostly required for 5-6 overs maximum or sometimes even less.

The one sided love story between left arm fast bowlers and Indian batsmen continue. It's not just that they struggle but they struggle so badly that a left armer ends up taking 6 wkts against them in a T20 match. From Chaminda Vaas to Mohammad Aamir to Toppley to McCoy, the story continues.

IND 138 (19.4)
WI 5/0 (0.5) CRR: 6 REQ: 6.99
West Indies need 134 runs

Could it be? Could the WI win this game?

As things stand, it looks like a thrashing for India.

West Indies 62/1

West Indies should win this now.

76 runs are needed from 75 balls (9 wickets in hand).

Making a meal of this West Indies after a good start.

Made hard work of it but they get there in the end.

Good innings by Devon Thomas.

Iyer will never amount to anything. The guy is not motivated enough to succeed.

Rohit is past it now. But he stays as he is the captain.

Pant is a dud T20 player. A real mediocre one.

Ashwin should not be in the T20 squad.

Avesh Khan is the reincarnation of Ashok Dinda.

SKY is developing into a lottery player.

I would rather have Gill and Shaw opening the innings.

Thats a bit harsh bro.

Open with Pujara and Vihari in T20s.

Rohit is using this series as practice, trying different options.

Suryakumar has done great in middle overs, no point asking him to open when you have Kishan and Pant who can do that role.

Avesh was also bowled surprisingly ahead of Bhuvi because he was just trying and testing him. Fair to say that Avesh, Iyer and Jadeja don't belong in T20s.

India's best t20 team is as follows :-

1. Rohit
2. KL
3. Kohli
4. SKY
5. Pandya
6. Jadeja( no better option)
7. DK(wkt)
8. Bhuvi
9. Harshal/Arshdeep
10. Bumrah
11. Yuzi

12. Kishan
13. Pant
14. D Hooda
15. Kuldeep
16. Deepak Chahar

It was a day of firsts in St Kitts on Monday as West Indies quick Obed McCoy broke a host of records during his team's impressive series-levelling T20I victory over India.

The left-armer terrorised India throughout to collect astonishing figures of 6/17 from his four overs, which smashed the previous record best haul by a West Indies player in a Men's T20I contest.

It was just the fifth time a West Indies player had taken five wickets or more in a Men's T20I, with McCoy joining the likes of Keemo Paul (5/15 against Bangladesh), Daren Sammy (5/26 against Zimbabwe), Jason Holder (5/27 against England) and Oshane Thomas (5/28 against Sri Lanka) and then going one better than the previous quartet by collecting a sixth wicket.

The outstanding individual effort was also the first time any player had picked up six wickets against India in any Men's T20I, with McCoy breaking Wanindu Hasaranga’s magnificent 4/9 for Sri Lanka against India in Colombo last year.

And McCoy's victims were among some of the best in limited overs cricket, with world class batters Rohit Sharma (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) among the 25-year-old's six victims.

McCoy struck with the opening ball of the match when he had Rohit caught at a deep gully position, before Suryakumar Yadav (11) followed the India captain back to the pavilion on the first ball of McCoy's second over.

Not content with figures of 2/10 from two overs, McCoy returned in the 17th over of India's innings to deceive Jadeja and collect his third scalp of the match as the hosts continued their dominance.

McCoy then finished the assault during his final over when he picked up the wickets of Dinesh Karthik (7), Ravichandran Ashwin (10) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) to complete the rout.

West Indies' sometimes fickle batting line-up backed up McCoy's excellent performance by chasing down India's below-par total of 138 for the loss of just five wickets and with four deliveries remaining.

Opener Brandon King stood tall for the Caribbean side with a superb 68 from just 52 balls, while Devon Thomas (31*) kept his cool in the dying overs to guide West Indies home.

The win levels the five-game series at 1-1, with the next match coming at the same ground in Basseterre on Tuesday.

CWI Statement: 12pm start time for 3rd West Indies vs India Goldmedal T20I match on 2nd August

BASSETERRE, St Kitts – Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed a revised start time of 12pm (11am Jamaica/9:30pm India) for the third match between West Indies and India in the Goldmedal T20I Cup, powered by Kent Water Purifiers to be played at Warner Park in St Kitts on Tuesday 2nd August.

Following the delayed start on Monday, the teams have agreed to start the third Goldmedal T20 Cup match at a later time to ensure that the players receive adequate rest and recovery time for the back-to-back matches in St Kitts and in consideration of the back-to-back matches to come in Florida.

The five-match Goldmedal T20I Cup, powered by Kent Water Purifiers series is level 1-1 between the two teams after West Indies bounced back to win the 2nd Goldmedal T20I by five wickets. Left-arm pacer Obed McCoy delivered the best-ever bowling figures by a West Indies bowler in T20I matches with his 6 wickets for just 17 runs. India won the first contest by 68 runs last Friday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

West Indies vs India, 3rd T20I

India have won the toss and have opted to field

Rohit Sharma - We will field first, not looking at the conditions, but this is what we prefer to do. We want to capitalize on the powerplay, this is a small ground, a six hitting ground, the average score isn't big and we need to keep that in mind as well. The guys have been given the chance to express themselves, so the high-risk shots come into play, but we do understand that. I don't know about that, as a team we want to improve in all aspects of the game, but in the last few series, the left-arm seamers have done well against us. But it's not that the guys are struggling, it happens when you're trying to score quickly. But we do need to understand when we come up against certain bowlers, we just want to come out and express ourselves, that's what we want to continue doing. Just one change, Jadeja has been rested, Hoods is in.

Nic Pooran - We wanted to bat first as well, this is a ground where chasing is the preferred option. But now we need top put up a good score on the board and defend it. Credit to the bowling group, they performed well as an unit, they did come hard at us, but we stuck to our task. We did speak about the left-arm option, we spoke about it during the team meetings. That's why we have one change today - Dominic Drakes is in, he repalces Odean Smith. We are backing our boys and it's important to have the right guys in the right positions.

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(w), Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh

West Indies (Playing XI): Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran(c), Shimron Hetmyer, Devon Thomas(w), Rovman Powell, Dominic Drakes, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy

Hardik becomes the third Indian pacer to pick 50 t20I wickets after Bumrah and Bhuvi. Definitely a genuine all rounder in T20s by all meaning. If this isn't enough to call him that then there is probably no other way to convince anyone.

Since his comeback, Pandya has become the most important ODI and T20 player for India.

India should open with Rohit and Pant. SKY should bat at 4.

Avesh Khan told every1 he's garbage when I first saw him run in to bowl. Looks like an uncle laboring to the crease

Hardik is a genuine all rounder. Anyone who disputes this is either blinded by hate or doesn't understand cricket

Rohit walked off with some injury. This is a massive news if he cant participate in this series anymore.

Avesh khan is 70s style hit the deck seam bowler. Might work with red ball but in modern T20s he wont make it. You need variations to be successful in T20 cricket. Hopefully lad will learn...he is very young.

Suryakumar is so much better than Iyer when it comes to finding gaps and playing shots all round the field.

SKY is good man. Maybe Dravid has pulled a masterstroke by letting him open in T20s? His innovative batting is what India required in powerplays rather than orthodox stuff we get from Rohit-Rahul.

Pakistan have a serious problem to deal with in the form of SKY

He is the best T20 batter in Asia

Rohit Sharma walked off retired hurt in the second over of the third T20I between India and West Indies in St Kitts.

Rohit Sharma walked off after a prolonged discussion with the team physio in the second over of the run chase in St Kitts in the third T20I. Chasing 165 for a win, Rohit had smashed Alzarri Joseph for a six and a four in the second over before he appeared to visibly struggle with his back.

The physio tended to the Indian skipper, but he eventually decided to walk off retired hurt.

BCCI confirmed that Rohit had suffered a back spasm.

WI 164/5 (20)

IND 165/3 (19)

India won by 7 wickets

Hooda is looking much better than Pandya these days which is a good thing because that will keep Pandya on his toes and he won't skip any series from now onwards. Pant on the other hand has to improve his strike rate because we have better options than him in T20Is. Pandya has so far flopped in this series with the bat which was expected from him because he is not known for his consistency. :inti

Apart from the Rohit injury, almost the perfect chase by India.

India on Tuesday defeated West Indies by 7 wickets in the third T20I at the Warner Park in Basseterre. With the win, India took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing a total of 165, India won the game with an over to spare, thanks largely to Suryakumar Yadav's knock of 76. The Indian team had suffered an early blow as skipper Rohit Sharma had to be retired hurt due to back spasm.

Earlier Kyle Mayers scored a brilliant 73 as West Indies posted a total of 164 for five against India in the ongoing third T20I at the Warner Park in Basseterre. Kyle Mayers scored a fifty befeore Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave him his marching orders.

The series is tied at 1-1 after West Indies won a low-scoring thriller at the same venue last night. Obed McCoy bowled the best figure by a West Indian bowler, taking six for 17 to put India's batters under the pump. In reply, Brandon King hit fifty while Devon Thomas scored a counter-attacking knock to get West Indies level in the series.
