1. England Vs NZ in the world cup final with England winning their first ever world cup in a nail biter. Definitely the best world cup game I've ever seen let alone a final.

2. The Ausi / South Africa semi final in 1999 where there were 2 run outs during South Africa's chase right at the end. Believe it was the start of South Africa being labeled as chokers ?

3. Can't ever forget the 1999 world cup final between Pakistan and Australia where we were dismissed for 132. Was only 10 and had just started watching cricket. So began my journey of high blood pressure..

What sticks out to you guys ?

The group game Pakistan V Australia 1999 at headingley. You had to be there to get what an atmosphere it was

It has to be 2019 ODI world cup final between England and New Zealand, trust me watching that match was an intense heart pounding experience.

2011 semifinal, Ind v Pak.

Both the countries’ populations were super pumped up, no other match has been hyped up that much in decades.

It was a festival everywhere. Colleges, universities, etc.

Beating England in 2019. That for me was Pakistan’s best ever win at World Cups!

Maybe recency bias, but 2019 WC was pretty memorable.

From a Pakistan perspective: getting destroyed by Windies, somehow beating England, those back to back clutch victories against NZ and AFG that were must wins to stay in it.

NZ-IND semi over 2 days that Guptill finished with that unbelievable direct hit that ended Dhoni's career, of course the NZ-ENG final. It was a great tournament.

I started to watch cricket from 1997. These are some of my memorable ODI World Cup games since 1997:

England vs New Zealand (2019 World Cup final) --> This was my most favorite World Cup game of all time.
England vs Ireland (2011 World Cup).
Australia vs South Africa (1999 World Cup semi-final).
Bangladesh vs South Africa (2007 World Cup).
Kenya vs Sri Lanka (2003 World Cup).
Bangladesh vs Pakistan (1999 World Cup).
Bangladesh vs India (2007 World Cup).

Nothing beats the England vs New Zealand 2019 FINAL. "The Barest Of Margins"

Aus v windies 1996 semi - windies were 165/2 chasing 207 still lost

Aus v sa semi 1999

Just watched the highlights of that match !

How can you lose chasing 208 from 165-2. WI promoted Roger Harper and Otis Gibson which backfired.

If that was a SC team we'd be crying foul play to this day.

Reverse swing- warne McGrath Fleming played part in both semis.

Didnt Richie Richardson (or was it Rutherford) smack the leg umpire for a shot that would have been a 4, but ended up being 1 run since the umpires head got in the way? Right in the last couple of overs.

I went to this game and for atmosphere nothing comes close. Espcially how wild the crowd when moin Khan swept mcgrath for a huge six into one of the stands. Amazing game start to finish

Yes that's right. The umpire was BC Cooray. But that's when WI were cruising in mid-innings.

Nothing more iconic than when Ireland done over Pakistan and India got beaten by Bangladesh.

It was such a momentous day that it changed the cricket landscape and future tournaments.

1. Pakistan vs Aus 99 (group stage and the final)
2. Australia vs SA 99 (group stage and semi)
3. Pakistan vs NZ 96 (was at the stadium)
4. India vs Sri Lanka 96 (the semifinal)
5. Australia vs Sri Lanka 96 (the final)
6. Australia vs WI 96 (the semifinal)
Everything after 99 for me has not had much impact in terms of memory because of bad performance by Pakistan, too much cricket or whatever… the team did not have much in terms of star power after 2003 till now. I guess 2019 World Cup was not bad and we did bad but we also played some brilliant cricket in that World Cup.

Honorable mentions to the Zimbabwe matches in the 99 edition. They beat SA when SA had allegedly refused them a practice game before the WC started basically saying you are not good enough. They had a good run in that tournament.

In addition to the Pak-Aus 1999 group match, for Pakistanis the semi and final of 1992. Inzi and Javed’s semi final innings, Moin’s sweep for 6 over long off

And the final - Imran, Javed consolidation, Inzi and Wasim blitz.

Then Botham dismissal (haha) with Amir Sohail’s send off, Mushy schooling Hick, Aqib taking a catch (and a great one at that) and of course the two deliveries by Wasim

Doesn’t get any more iconic

You sure do love your Bangladesh.

A few more great games I forgot to mention:

Pakistan vs India (2003 World Cup)
Zimbabwe vs South Africa (1999 World Cup)
Australia vs New Zealand (2015 group stage)
England vs West Indies (2011 World Cup).

India beating Pakistan (2003) childhood memory 😍

India beating Australia 2019 where (Dhawan masterclass)

WC final 2011

Just watched one between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Not many giving Pakistan a chance to chase down the big target of 345 but they did it with more than an over to go. What an amazing run chase by them.

I watched the 2019 World Cup final. All of it. Didn't miss a single ball.

Now even if I dont get to watch a competitive cricket match my whole life, I will still die a happy man.

1996 Ind-Pak. Was a kid and watched it live :wy Don't remember much of the game except for Jadeja. Not even the Prasad-Sohail drama.

1999 - Aus-SA. Perhaps the most gut-wrenching.

2003 Ind Pak. The most iconic batting performance ever for me in a WC.

2011 - Ind-Aus QF. The most nerve-wracking game involving India.

2019 Final - probably the best overall match.

2023 Final :vk

for a poster who claims to have been watching cricket since the 80s, its soo weird when they use the excuse of two new balls.

Wasim Akram has already ripped into this theory that odi cricket has always been played with 2 new balls, because the first ball would never last till the end of the innings, and thus the ball would get switched later in the game without making a fuss of it on tv.

Now that the innings start with two balls from both end, fans make a fuss about it.

The games which gave goosebumps while watching and drama was nerve shattering

Aus v SA, 1999 SF no game can match this epic

Pak v Ire 07 our wickets kept on fluttering and was hoping someone will stick around but no respite and the unthinkable happened

Nz vs SA 2011 QF Mirpur another tale of SA epic Choke chasing a modest total

Ind v Pak 2011 SF, a horrible game to watch

NZ v Eng 2019 WCF, sheer drama twist and climax it was theatrical

------------

Some notable T20 games

Ind vs Pak 07 final , Misbah masterclass

Pak v Aus 2010 SF, Hussey did the impossible task a calculative destruction of spinners slow poison

Wi v SL 2012 Final, Marlon Samuel's heroic

Eng v WI Wt20 Final, Carlos Braithwaite remember the name

2013 Ind v Eng CT Final, another bizarre game
