The fans and ex cricketers are very angry with the squad selected for the World Cup. My question is can someone please provide us with alternative players then the ones selected. Please don’t give names such as Sharjeel or Malik. Sharjeel failed in psl and has failed in the national t20 bar 1 games where he was dropped many times.

Malik has been playing for 4 decades and his record in t20s is still worse then iftikhar I believe. Furthermore he has a shocking record in Australia. Let’s also not forget he has always failed in big tournament and his pathetic tweet.

I am hoping for a long list of players who can replace the current ones selected.

List.

-Sharjeel Khan
-Saud Shaqeel
-Saim Ayub
-Sarfaraz Ahmed
-Tayyab Tahir
-Qasim Akram
-Faheem Ashraf
-Ali Imran
-Harris Sohail
-Asif Mahmood
-Shoaib Malik
-Imad Wasim

In T20’s.

Mohammad S. Khan > Babar Azam

Fakhar Zaman > Mohammad Rizwan

Umar Akmal > Shan Masood

Kashif Ali > Ifthikar Ali

Tayyab Tahir > Khushdil Shah

List.

-Sharjeel Khan
-Saud Shaqeel
-Saim Ayub
-Sarfaraz Ahmed
-Tayyab Tahir
-Qasim Akram
-Faheem Ashraf
-Ali Imran
-Harris Sohail
-Asif Mahmood
-Shoaib Malik
-Imad Wasim

Out of this list,

Saim Ayub is the standout performer but he's too raw to play in a WC.

Qasim Akram/Kamran Ghulam could've replaced Iftikhar.

Saud is classy but not a T20 player.

Others are all TTF....even Khushdil has outperformed all of them in domestic and PSL.

Terrible players but pretty accurate list. Better to stick with the players in the team. Guys like Saim, Ghulam, and Tayyub can be given a chance post WC

Asif Mahmood is a surprise package

I think this guy is the full package

Ali Imran is good. Watch him play.

Our biggest hope is Haider Ali. The only proper batsman who can go at high sr.

I want Sohaib Maqsood and Imad to be selected in place of Ifthikar and Khushdil. Qadir should be in the reserves. Which means another batting option slot opens up, would not mind Haris Sohail there. He is a technically astute player, can be a good middle order option. Dahani should be playing over Wasim Jnr. Why has Sohaib Maqsood fallen out of favour so badly after his good comeback?

Haris Sohail would have been pretty good for the Asia cup. With Malik and Haris we probably would have won the cup. But in terms of longevity it makes less sense and I think Ifti has more chances of doing well in Aus than those two.

I think people are harsh on Khushdil. It takes a bit of time for a player to develop, especially a Pakistani batter. It is better to invest that time in someone like Khushdil if you believe he can adapt. I do not see any other player outside the squad that is fully developed and able to tackle Aus conditions

We dont have much options currently fully developed. There are some names but, for most of them either they have other issues or they are not developed enough yet[/B] (Selecting them early would be harsh for them). So cant really debate upon more than a name or two if we push it.

Not selected due to one reason or another

- Sharjeel Khan (Extraordinary timer of a cricket ball but, fitness doesnt allow that quick singles and doubles which ultimately reflects in his inconsistency as well)
- Malik (Still a solid T20 batter despite his ordinary numbers in Aus but, time to move on)

Some upcoming options who need more time to develop,

Saim Ayub
Qasim Akram
Ali Imran
Hurraira
Haseebullah
Saad Khan
etc

Currently that can be considered
Tayyab Tahir
Kamran Ghulam
Sahibzada Farhan
Azam Khan (Fitness needs to show growth in right direction)

His batting was quite good. Both Asif and that player from Northern who has just been selected are good bats. They are not just midwicket sloggers

Yes highly impressive. Tall, good pace and can hit proper shots. He is 26 so hopefully he keeps on getting opportunities in domestic and PSL so that he can come in the radar soon if he performs

lol... just goes to show you the state of domestic at this point. Saud/Sarfraz/Haris are all terrible T20 players.

Only worthwhile names for the future: Ayub, Akram, Imran. Out of the list who could actually help the team at this very moment, Sharjeel and that's about it IMO. Even then, he hasn't lit it up domestically and horrible at fielding.

Asif Mahmood is a bit like Aamer Jamal. Maybe could be intriguing but also very green at this point.

Think Kashif Ali wants to play for England.

Only because ECB know he has potential.

I’m sure he was playing in Islamabad not too long ago.

In the next couple of years he’s gonna have a crazy domestic season and Pakistan will have lost their own AbD.

He is a Gun in the field. Shadab Khan level fielder

People writing off Saud but gunning for Kamran Ghulam….whilst also backing Rizwan/Babar/Iftikhar/Shan

Not that many options, however I would say these 3 are worth a look

Shoaib Malik - he's old, has played in 4 different decades, however he is still performing

Saud Shakeel - he should already be in the Test squad, however he has also put up decent stats in the current T20 tournament. How much worse could he do then the current middle order players?

Saim Ayub - Has played well in the current T20 tournament, however I dont blame PCB for not selecting him as he still needs more time.

Shakeel over Fakhar at 3 is a no brainer

Babar is too selfish to go down himself at that number, so might as well let the best performing no.3 in Pakistan right now do the job

If these are the options then i appreciate wasim that none of them are playing

This is a very long winded thread of saying nobody.

Anyone who thinks any names in this thread are a legitimate contender for a WC spot at this stage needs to get themselves checked out.

There is no case for a single one of these players. Special lol for Saud Shakeel, a guy who can barely clear the 30 yard circle being a replacement for the number 5 or 6 spot in t20's.

I don't know how good of a fielder he is but I would definitely have taken a look at Tayyab Tahir, Kamran Ghulam and Sahibzada Farhan. The problem is bar Kamran, the other two eat up a lot of dot balls, which in Australia will be difficult to overcome.

Unfair question to ask, which presumes that there is no talent in Pakistan, and the ones we have currently are the best we can do. One can offer up a few names of the best performers in the ongoing national T20 cup, young players with potential, but at this last moment the argument will be that they are too raw and untested, which is true. The point is to develop specalist batsmen in bilateral series in between major tournaments. The names that would have been offered after the 2021 national T20 cup would have been different than the names that would come up now, but if they are never tried what's the point of engaging in this discussion? It certainly can't be Malik or Imad and probably not Sharjeel either, although I have to admit even a slow, unfit Sharjeel is a better timer than anyone we currently have. Haider Ali, Kamran Ghulam, and Sahibzada Farhan for starters, plus three more specialist batsmen from whoever does best in the national tournament. Too late for the world cup, but the point is that we never start the process. It's just lack of rational planning, the desi curse.

I would also like to add, Saud Shakeel looked good against CP yesterday in the NT20 Cup. Maybe a option.

A very very good question to ask. Completely aligned on Sharjeel and Malik for now.

First some context. You will get a few names tossed who are around doing well in ongoing domestic National T20, but you have to completely ignore them. obviously those batters look world-beaters chopping up some atrocious bowling and fielding in smallish boundaries. Ifti and Khusdil are regular humiliators in National T20, but international bowling and pressure is another ballgame altogether. For example, Ifti averaged 100+ with SR of 170 in last years National T20….

Given where we are right now, stocks are pretty dry. Shan was a good pick. But other than that, maybe Sarfaraz due to his experience and form in the ongoing tournament? as well as the fact that middle order is his natural position and he is scoring runs from that MO position. Also offers a middle order option who can disturb spin bowlers.
Other than that, you’re really punting and guessing. I would back batsmen that have done well in variety of tournaments and circumstances, including PSL, National T20, and 4 day cricket over at least 2 years consistently. Here’s the problem, none have.
Sahibzada Farhan has been pretty consistent but there’s no places up for grabs in top-order.
Tayyab Tahir looks promising but too early for me.

So yeah, the answer is not many options outside Shan and Sarfaraz for me to throw in the WC just 4-6 weeks prior.
