First test of judgement for the new Head Coach and Chief Selector Misbah-ul-Haq.

Your thoughts on this selection for 20-man squad from which the final squads will be chosen.

Don't think it's too bad. Just glad Hafeez and Malik are gone.

Shehzad has improved recently honestly even he is better than Fakhar, but I'd rather have Abid

Iftikhar / Umar are good selections, they can replace Hafeez and be our no 6 power hitter.

Only selections I don't like are faheem and Asif Ali

Very poor and could have been even worse if rahat, asad etc were called.

We're giving credit to Misbah ul Haq for discarding players who discarded themselves. As outside observers our bar is so low for those in higher office. We should demand better.

I support the new structure and the appointment of Misbah when compared with the alternatives. But his initial probables list has left much to be desired. Specifically this idea that Imam ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman are shoe-ins for the First XI. Based on what we've seen and metrics, neither player has demonstrated himself to be a top class opener against good opposition or in pressure situations.

Although there are many players that could have been in the list of probables, the one name that stands out to me is Hussain Talat. In a country devoid of top class batting talent, ignoring him demonstrates a complete lack of vision and a poor assessment of talent.

That said, I'm Not Surprised.

What? :)))

Its a pointless exercise..because I think most of the guys are not capable.
If I was a selector? and with the lack of resources that we have...these are my players.

Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Riz
Haris
Asif
Imad
Shadab
Wahab
Amir
Afridi

back up...
Abid Ali
Shinwari
Gohar.

We're so bad I wouldnt add another player here, ie. middle order batter?
Because we dont have one.

Pretty poor, seems like no thought is been put into building a team to compete in new ODI league or building a side which can complete in 4 years at next world cup.

every time pakistan has a chance at a fresh start they go further in reverse.

Overall a good group of players, but I will point to the lack of a young, inexperienced batsman in it.

Guys like Ahsan Ali, or Saud Shakeel should be given an opportunity against a weakened SL team.

it was never a strategy of pak...

Pak used to play their full strength team with Misbah, Younis, Yousuf, Afridi, Gul against a depleted Zimbabwe and whitewash in their own den....

Because Pak didn't play much cricket and there were only a few T20 leagues around then. So 10 ODI's in a year and 5 tests in a year were the only few games they used to have. Except the fast bowlers everyone used to be match fit.

And yea the PCB also used to be afraid of losing to those teams.

Typical Misbah team and you can't realistically expect any better from him.

The team selected is a very good indicator of the doom and gloom that awaits Pakistan fans and that's what the PCB deserve for selecting a man with no experience of coaching a FC team with insufficient qualifications and not to forget the biggest sin of all; allowing a conflict of interest to arise from this because of his shameless greed.

On the positive side, I doubt he will last long in the role.

That is PCBs job to get enough games in a year for the team which you cant expect such unprofessional body to work or think in this regard...

Comparatively on the other hand look at India trying their next gen bowlers in the home series.. Misbah went back to 2013

the sense of getting to believe that MISBAH is there occupying dual roles without any experience is just because he is a relative of Imran Khan is growing higher...

Recalling UA and Ahmed Shahzad, enough said... very disappointing. I would still wait another year and see how team will be reshaped. By the way round is a shape too...:ua
I expect nothing from Misbah as it was a really poor choice for selector/coach.

Wants to give it poor but just ranked average just because its first official job and its difficult to introduce new faces at first tour.

But very poorly selected squad even i can do this job very easily. Nothing new, Lets see what he brings up.

My first thought was very predictable squad and now new faces at all but perhaps its too early to expect that for now. We should get some top performers getting into the team after two domestic season with new set up.

Pakistani cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq also belongs to the Niazi tribe in Mianwali and shares blood relations with Imran Khan paternally.

So that's the reason Misbah got so much preference.

I know he is Imran's relative but wasnt thinking that he is given so much preference because of that...

If so then i would like to see bazid khan given a chance of being chief selector... I hope soon he gets that, because he is the right man for that job and also a direct relative of Imran khan..
