Prime Minister Imran Khan once again reiterated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government inherited a poor economy when it came to power in 2018, while addressing a National Assembly session on Budget 2020-21 on Thursday.

Responding to accusations by the opposition that the PTI-led government is ‘hiding behind coronavirus’, the prime minister said that it was not just Pakistan but the whole world was going through a crisis.

“We inherited an economy with $20b current account deficit,” he said. “This was the worst deficit in our history. Our exports were stagnant but our imports were more than $60b,” observed the premier.

Talking about the country’s liabilities, the PM said that the first year of PTI was the most difficult as it had to pay off debt acquired by the previous government.

“I have been the one to raise funds all my life, and I have not been ashamed of asking for money from Pakistani nationals,” said the PM. “What I am ashamed of is when we ask for money from other countries to pay a debt that was not due to us.”

He said that a prime minister is like a father to its citizens.

On Covid-19

The prime minister said that there was never any contradiction in his statements regarding the lockdown.

He claimed that Pakistan’s was the only government that had a coherent response to the pandemic, while the rest of the world remained confused.

“The NCOC has done a remarkable job,” he said. There was no data available to us regarding medical facilities. But the NCOC collected data and facilitated us in making informed decisions.”

He further added that the country was going through a difficult time and the next phase was going to be even more difficult. “We have to sensitise people about following the SOPs.”

“There is pressure on the health care system,” he said. “We have to protect elderly people and people with underlying medical conditions.”

“Other than India you look at the US where coronavirus is spreading and they are still easing the lockdown.”

The entire world is facing the problem, not just Pakistan, he added. Most of the impact was on the services and tourism sectors.

He further added that we have to prioritize the construction and agriculture sector. “We are lacking in seed development. We are trying to import technology from China.”

The premier said that duties have been lifted from thousands of raw material so that country’s exports can increase.

“Till the time you do not incentivise the industries, you cannot compete,” he added.

Talking about the allocation of resources to former FATA areas, the PM said for the first erstwhile FATA has been allocated full resources and there is a record-high allocation to Balochistan

“All the provinces gave their word that they would give 3pc of their NFC for FATA’s development as it was affected grossly by the war on terror.”

Well he promised to bring back the 200 Arab dollars that Nawaz and Zardari looted.

If he had lived up to his promise, he wouldn’t need to ask other countries and institutions for money.

Similar stuff was promised by Modi before coming to power. Will bring back black money from Swiz bank acc., make India sone ki chidiya etc. Seems like both have done zilch on this front. Having very very loyal followers helps you get away with not keeping up with promises.

a bit off topic question - what is significance of sonay ki churya to Hindus? (it might be indians as a whole but ive only heard hindus)

vaajpaye used to say it then the swamy economist guy also says it and ive seen it referenced here and there over the years

You clearly do not follow Pakistan politics very deeply. The money is already in the bank mate, and the terms of the payment was that it will not be made public.

It’s “Chidiya” or as North Indians And Bengalis might say/type “Chiriya”. Chidiya/Chiriya means bird/sparrow but more commonly used for all birds in general. Soney ki Chidiya Translates to golden bird

It comes from an excerpt from ancient Chinese or was it European travelers before British and probably before the Mughals Who used it to describe India’s (pre partition) wealth, prosperity and culture during those times.

Slog I am surprised they don’t teach that in Pakistani history because it was from a time when we were the same country and good chance Chinese or Europeans would have had to pass through the Current day Pakistan and were probably referring to the extended Punjab region.

You need to stop reading Niazi Times.

Nawaz and Zardari haven’t and won’t return a penny.

we read about subcontinent wealth and prosperity and great subcontinent empires like mauryans, mughals, guptas, delhi sultanate etc and many others... but this sonay ki chirya term isnt referred or atleast i dont remember it.

lol wth

Sone Ki Chidiya - Golden bird.

lol i know sonay ki chirya means a golden bird. no mystery there lmao.

i asked what does it refer to, not the literal translation lol

Look at the bright side, you at the very least agree the money is "looted". Going by that logic in the worst case scenario, with Imran in Pakistan's bank account will remain nil, while with PPP and PMLN incharge it would be negative.

Imran should first return the black money Jahangir Tareen spent on his election campaign.

One thing is for sure - Imran thinks about his country and people.

Yes he has made mistakes and yes he has made it difficult for himself.

But we all know we will never get an honest lad like him as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

I hope he is able to rectify his mistakes.

Keep it up PM! :ik

Only way to kill negative propaganda is to drown it out with facts and logic

Exactly. Instead of recouping the looted wealth he let Nawz scape scott free and nothing happened to Zardari either.

On top of it he has amassed an entourage of Lotay as ministers.

77 of PTI MNAs are first timers. 36 are those that are in national assembly just for the 2 time. So over 2/3 of his MNAs cannot be classified as lotay as you are describing.

Shouldn't the patriots themselves put the $200 Arabs in the nations coffers themselves.

IK knowingly and willingly has just become a total Tool for the army, has no influence, authority or control on anything. The GHQ has taken over all key ministries and have army officers sitting in media houses scrutinising every word that gets broadcasted.

He is consistently sent on begging missions by his masters and after all this preaching the common man abt ‘conscience’ is a bit rich from him.

why do you think Nawaz was allowed to come to UK? Just need to use a bit of common sense.

Unfortunately, common sense is not common among PTI supporters.

Nawaz was allowed to leave for London by Imran’s selectors as part of a deal.

The deal resulted in Nawaz walking out of jail in exchange of PMLN signing the Army Amendment Act that allowed King Bajwa to extent his tenure as COAS.

I repeat - this government hasn’t and will not recover a single penny. They only have one speciality - run their big mouths and make their cult-followers dance.

Correction: he didn’t let Nawaz go. He doesn’t have the authority to do that. That decision was taken by his selectors as part of the deal that allowed Nawaz to go London in exchange for PMLN supporting the Army Amendment Act.

Shouldn't the patriots themselves put the $200 Arabs in the nations coffers themselves.

Why should they? Who gives up money willingly? Perhaps if Imran leads the way and deposits JKT’s black money that he spent on him in the coffers, Nawaz and Zardari might be inspired by his actions.

Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar said on Friday that the coronavirus cases in the country are expected to rise to 225,000 until the end of June, cautioning that the virus threat was still not over.

The federal minister was addressing media personnel, along with Information Minister Shibli Faraz where he said that as per an earlier estimate, 300,000 cases were expected nationwide till June 30.

Umar said that when the number of COVID-19 cases surged, people started following preventive measures. “There were two weeks when the big hospitals in major cities faced pressure,” he said, cautioning that if the SOPs are not followed then the situation can deteriorate.

The government has increased its facilities with more beds and ventilators, which gives us hope for the coming days, said Umar, adding that on June 14, authorities disclosed the facts before the public, and presented the estimate for the end of the month.

The minister said that they took into consideration experts' opinions and implemented a smart lockdown in areas with higher number of COVID-19 cases.

Paying tribute to healthcare workers and those on the frontlines fighting the pandemic, he said, "Doctors and paramedical staff are busy for our protection.

"It is our responsibility to help the front-line workers by playing our part. It is not a very difficult thing to do, we just need to have a sense of responsibility. If we do this, our health system would not be paralysed," he added.

Collectively, it is in our hands to fight the virus while listening to health experts and their advice, he said.

The minister stated that the smart lockdown was implemented from mid-May and in 20 cities the pandemic seemed to be spreading at a rapid speed.

Asad Umar said that fortunately, things seemed to be in control at the moment.

“This has given us a lesson that we can control the situation if we want to by taking the required measures on time. I have given directions for data collection for the coming months of July and August and will take decisions according to it.”

PM Imran says coronavirus peak expected end of July
Earlier this month Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the cases of the deadly coronavirus in Pakistan would hit a peak by the end of July or start of August.

In his address, he also warned of "a very difficult time" ahead if people continued to ignore the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Appealing to the citizens to follow precautionary measures, PM Imran said not following the precautionary measures "will cause harm to the country".

The lockdown to curb the spread of the respiratory illness does not end it but only slows it down, the premier explained.

As of today, Pakistan recorded 195,745 cases of the virus with more than 3,900 deaths.

Imran should first return the black money Jahangir Tareen spent on his election campaign.

Weird analogy, let me add to that then. You agree on the context that the wealth of Nawaz and Zardari are looted and hence black. You further want Imran to return "black money" that was used in his election (this is not a fact, this is your opinion).

At the same time you support Bilawal, a person who's entire life has been run on the wealth of Zardari and PPP. Would you be hypocritical about Bilawal then if he used the black looted money to study in Oxford or run advertisements and campaigns for PPP?

Which part do you consider an opinion? JKT is not part of the sugar mafia or JKT did not finance Imran’s election?

You have just agreed to what I have said.

So for some people he is an authoritarian dictator and for others he is a puppet of the army. How can he be both simultaneously. Make up your mind already

So for some people he is an authoritarian dictator and for others he is a puppet of the army. How can he be both simultaneously. Make up your mind already

Just like PPP call him Taliban Khan and Diesel and a lot of PMLN call him Jewish agent.

The fact his opponents can't make their mind up says it all.

So for some people he is an authoritarian dictator and for others he is a puppet of the army. How can he be both simultaneously. Make up your mind already

I never called him dictator. He is just one of many servants of the dictator sitting in the GHQ.

You have just agreed to what I have said.

What do you think that deal was?

No I did not agree to what you said, and I have already explained what the deal was.

The deal was that PMLN would sign the Army Amendment Act in exchange for Nawaz leaving the country.

It did not involve any money as you claimed.

PTI haven’t and will not recover a single penny, regardless of fake degree holder nalaik gutter-mouth Murad Saeed claiming that they will bring back $200b to the country.

I never called him dictator. He is just one of many servants of the dictator sitting in the GHQ.

He is a dictator only within his own party. When it comes to the military, if he tries to dictate terms, he will be sent packing.

Imran’s fascism is limited to 20-30 people within PTI. Bas un pe hi zor chalta hai.

Imran’s fascism is limited to 20-30 people within PTI. Bas un pe hi zor chalta hai.

His Party only consists of the ATMs like Jahangir Tarin and Alim Khan, who are after the business interests. Or the traditional Lotay and opportunists like Shah Mehmood Qureshu, Fawad Chaudhry, Sheikh Rasheed, Firdous Aashiq Awan and Aamir Liaqut. All of them are only after the honey pot, so being dictated does mean anything to them.

This is not a real political party nor there is anything democratic about it.

When are you returning the money you owe to the nation?

Imran Khan told us that when the leader is strong like him, people follow by example.

So I will return the black money when Imran leads by example and returns the black money Jahangir Tareen spent on his election campaign.

Which part do you consider an opinion? JKT is not part of the sugar mafia or JKT did not finance Imran’s election?

I'm not supporting JKT, but isn't PMLN (Nawaz) the one who got declared a criminal and served in jail due to fraud and corruption? A ruling by court is a certainty and not an opinion anymore.

I'm not well versed on the Zardari and Shirjeel Memon case perhaps a verdict was issued there too.

Have you forgotten? You think Imran is an idiot and you're smarter than Iqbal and more important than Jinnah, so why wait for Imran and keep spending the money when you as a great patriot should lead by example and give back what is not yours but the nations?

cough cough Army
if JKT joins PMLN or PPP or just get out of PTI he is going to jail just wait and watch

Looks like the name has been changed from ‘selective’ to ‘smart’ again.

Besides, there was nothing ‘smart’ about the lockdown in Pakistan. It was smart only in name.

It was actually a dumb lockdown, because the restrictions were lifted during the most dangerous phase, i.e. the last week of Ramzan.

Imran has completely failed as a leader during the pandemic. You cannot see any presence of leadership and governance in the country.

The government has been reduced to giving warnings and calling people stupid because they do not want to shoulder any blame.

The excuse is that we cannot do anything because the people are careless or do not listen is what you call weak leadership.

Germany, Italy and Portugal are not led by the most incompetent and clueless leaders and ministers, so there ‘smart’ lockdown will actually be ‘smart’.
