What is Babar Azam's current market value in the IPL?

He has shown he is consistent run scorer as opener in T20s. He'll go for a few cr.
 
Should be pretty high now he is improving with every series.. Will not fetch the top bucks but will be up there.

Dude. Laugh all you want. Ive seen you say many times you dont even watch IPL. Babar is a foreign batsman and is not a basher. The kind IPL teams look for in openers. Unless you are AB or Gayle you dont get Mil bucks in IPL. Imad has more value than Babar in IPL.

Babar : same as williamson 200k+ or goes unsold like joe root
Babar can only play as opener where competition is strong between foreign players & Indian openers. That's the reason why joe root don't get picked.

Imad : 400k to 500k because he is an allrounder & gives terrific control with the ball in powerplay.

Absolute gun t20 player at the moment. Only Kohli’s stats, to my knowledge, surpass Babar’s in T20’s on the international circuit. Joe Root and Williamson average 20 runs fewer per innings at a slightly slower strike rate while playing on more high scoring pitches!

I guess Imad would be pretty handy as well. I did not watch the first edition, but I think Pak players rocked the IPL when they played... back then we had the Gulldozer in full flight and Saeed Ajmal. Don’t know if they played, but they were killer T20 players, especially Gulldozer. Sohail Tanvir, who could barely make it into our T20 team got man of the series in the IPL or something, and I think it was only last year that his best match figures were surpassed after however many years!
 
He will be one of the highest paid batsmen in the IPL. Incredible consistency is what defines him not big hitting ability which is overrated. At the end of the day you want runs on board.

babars t20 average is better than kohlis at the moment but kohlis strike rate is better so we can say that both are at par at the moment in t20 internationals.

Kohli is the complete package. He’s a megastar and is so marketable. So Babar even on merit cannot match his value in the franchise. Babar won’t sell shirts like Kohli would

He is literally perfect for IPL style of cricket. I reckon his output would be even higher in India.

It's sad that Pakistan doesn't get to play in India much. I always believed Pakistani cricketers played their best cricket in India for some reason.

This is an interesting point. I think a good hypothetical comparison would be Babar and AB D.

I love AB, and he would clearly go for more money than Babar but which one of the two would win you more games? Tbh, I think Babar! Averages MORE THAN TWICE as much as AB with a S/R only about 7-10 runs lower... AB would put bums on seats and play a couple of glorious innings, but Babar would score way more consistently and at a very, very handy strike rate. He would also be better suited to Indian pitches than AB.

Yes, I guess Gayle for the first half, and David Warner for the past few seasons (barring the one he missed) have been the top guns in IPL, right? Warner is in beast mode in IPL so you never know how these things turn out.

You are right.

Kohli had one freak season in 2015 when he hit 4 hundreds in one season. Apart from that he's been very mediocre. He actually has been in IPL what Babar is accused of. Being a boring accumulator who doesn't help decide a match's outcome. He scores an irrelevant 50 and let's ABD be the man at the other end.

Haha. Dinesh Karthik is a huge failure, Pant has done nothing in LOIs yet he gets so much hype and the only reason is because he is Indian. Rayudu is average. Kedar Jhadav is useless. The rest are no where near Babar either. An IPL team can only wish to have Babar.

It's funny how Indians always equate these domestic players to Babar Azam, it's just disrespectful to Babar. If you can say that then I can say that Omair Bin Yousuf from Sindh is more valuable than Kohli, you can't complain.

Babar is the most consistent Pakistani batsman I have seen in a long time. I think he is better than most IPL batsmen.

The only way I see Babar not getting what he truly deserves is politicking BCCI administrators twisting the arms of all franchise owners to not pay Babar what they would for the likes of all the batsmen named by [MENTION=147891]Banter[/MENTION] just to ensure Indian batting supremacy over Asia and Pakistan in particular.

Otherwise he is a gun signing and will give you more than what the likes of Stokes and Butler offer

That precious foreign quota has world class players like sam billings, rutherford, moises, cutting, McClenghan, livingstone,stoinis etc. What precious players. So hard for babar to find a spot when these GOAT's are playing.
 
Indians talk as if Shreyas Iyer, Samson and Nair are some sort of Bradman, Smith or ABD. Babar is number 1 in t20is, 3 in ODIS and climbing up the ladder (16) in tests for a reason. Some Indians (and the odd Pakistani) can't swallow the fact that Babar is world class and the best batsman of his generation (under 25s) and is quickly catching up to the Fab 4.

There is one so called Pakistani bloke here who thought he would get away with saying Shubman Gill is already better than all Batsman that have been produced in Asia. This too before Gill played a single international match. The propaganda and its heavy effects on opinion is very real!

what's your opinion on rankings, stats and the views of cricketing journalists and ex players, do they hold any weight on a players ability or does hype on PakPassion and in India hold the most weight for a players ability?

He’s the best T20 batsman in the world lol. He is better than Indian T20 batsmen who practically play a T20i every 2 weeks.
 
Soon people will claim Rahane/Dhawan is better than any Pakistan Batsman and Bumra is better than Wasim Akram.
 
Bobby is a fantastic talent but he does not have that superstar aura that can be marketed by IPL. No Pakistani player since Akhtar has shown that except maybe Aamir for a brief period. Also, he didn't perform against India. Don't he'll up as anything special despite all the soft runs.

He is a direct rival to the throne of King Kohli. That is marketable if done smartly.

Pakistan hasn’t played India enough. Even Kohli wasn’t amazing against Pakistan in his initial few outings. It took him some time and a build in self confidence to eventually dominate

Ruthless in batting..11K runs at age of 29@Avg 60 and 40 hundreds, tests- 7K runs@ AVG 53, 25 hundreds, add in T20s as well!
