What's new

What is exactly going on with Babar Azam?

He's not played intl. cricket for about 4 months. During this time I don't know if he was working on resolving his weaknesses or not. But he looks worse as a player than last time.

He needs to be dropped and discarded for sometime until he works on his deficiencies.
I’d honestly bet my last dollar that he hasn’t really tried to work on his weaknesses. If he had genuinely wanted to improve, he would’ve started six years ago. But why bother? he’s already a “superstar.”

Agree, he looks like a shell of his former self, which is seriously depressing to see. Especially considering all the qualities he possessed.

This is probably the best thing that’s happened to babar. A series without a 50. A series where his ludicrous paid social media accounts have nothing to gloat about. There’s barely a cover drive to showcase on loop like they do.

They’ve all been desperately hoping that he flukes or hobbles to a 50 so they can all go crazy.

Literally this. He's spent so much money on this kind of PR and marketing, you wonder why a notable individual who used to attack Babar's fans, had suddenly done a flip-flop after the 2023 World Cup.

The problem is there has been unnecessary pressure been put on Babar by a certain lobby in the media and fans. These are the people that can't respect and accept great talents like Babar. These are the same people that want a change in players every few games.

Babar is going through a lean patch and uncertainty. He should be given confidence like a new player such as Saim Ayub where you allow him to go out and play his game with a consistent run without fear of being dropped. Eventually the form will return and he will be back to his best.

Opposition teams have figured out Babar, and whatever little natural talent he had is no longer enough to carry him. But the real issue isn’t just smart tactics from the other side, it’s his poor work ethic.

The best players in the world spend countless hours studying bowlers, refining their technique, and pushing their fitness and mental game to the absolute limit. Babar simply doesn’t show that level of commitment. He seems comfortable sticking to the same approach,

despite bowlers consistently exploiting obvious weaknesses, his predictable shot selection, avoidance of risk over the top, and inability to keep the singles ticking when the heat is on. Babar will not budge in working to sort out his flaws

The lack of effort shows in his repeated dismissals in the exact same ways with no visible improvement.

Whether he’s facing a top-ranked side or a minnow, its as if no lessons have been learned.

And most Cringy thing about him.. He walks around in T shirt and Short with Slippers .. no fashion sense

Tbf to Babar he is not rizwan. Unlike rizwan who was a fraud, Babar declined.

Some people blame Misbah, however Babar recovered after Misbah. Despite a horrible series vs Zimb and other teams, he bounced back post misbah with a very solid world cup campaign in 2021(granted he kinda botched it vs Australia)

The decline started in Asia cup 2022 and only continued to grow worse and worse.

One thing I have noticed is that during Mickey Era's Babar was a ghost on social media. Start of Misbah era the Cake cutting and Twitter spamming went through the god damn roof.

And during ramiz era it became ridiculous with every account spamming such nonsense and babar is the next Bradman being shoved down our throats 24/7.

And……like clockwork…….this is the new narrative - I’ve seen this on quite a few X Posts.

So no performance to speak of, no milestones to cling on to, no “exquisite” cover drives.

Nope, the new narrative is “oh poor babar….poor Rizwan, how do you expect them to perform with so much pressure……oh booo hooo”

“If only we had appreciated them, they’d reward us with performances””

Those poor little kamzor babies

Boo hoo! If Babar can't handle the pressure off the field, how is he expected to handle the pressure on the field?

No, it's time to accept the hype is over and that Babar is what you get when you order a batsman from Temu.

These two things won't improve by playing 1st class cricket, will they?? For that he needs to play either ipl or big bash or hundred & none of those are happening ever.
I believe Babar's technique has deteriorated over the years, thanks to T20 cricket. By playing more first-class cricket, his technique will get better, which will help improve his batting, certainly with things like strike rate.

Wasn't Babar supposed to "roar like a lion in India and win Pakistan the WC at Modi stadium" back in 2023?

What happened? Saari hawa nikal gayi? 🤡

Salman Butt on Babar Azam :

"We have to realise that Babar is a consistent player who has been performing for many years. He is technically superior to other batters, and we should have built the team around him instead of forcing him to change his game. If you look at England, everyone plays around Joe Root—he doesn’t try to become Jos Buttler."

Babar Azam’s work ethic is, frankly, among the poorest you’ll see in a top-level sportsman. He’s turning into a Rohit Sharma 2.0 (in terms of fitness) — except Rohit, even with the extra weight, can still dominate attacks. Babar can’t even manage that.

Right now, he plays like a timid kitten, completely unable to handle pressure, even when the stakes couldn’t be higher. His career peak so far? That famous 152–0 chase against India — a match that will remain his one shining moment. Beyond that, his legacy feels empty.

As someone who was once a huge admirer of his talent, I’m deeply disappointed. I had hoped Babar would become Pakistan’s standard-bearer for consistency and professionalism, but he’s falling into the same trap that has claimed so many of our cricketers: early fame, then complacency. Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Hassan Ali — the list is long, and the story is the same.

And then there’s Mohammad Rizwan — or “Legside-wan” — whose limited stroke range and questionable technique make him look ordinary at the highest level. He neither enjoys true fame nor demonstrates the skill set to deserve it.

Still, I’d love to be proven wrong. I’d be the first to celebrate if Babar returns as a 4.0 version of himself — sharper, fitter, hungrier — instead of this current “Lazy Azam” we’re stuck with.

@mominsaigol did you see Tanveer Ahmed’s suggestion to PCB to make Babar the Test captain? :ROFLMAO:

He believes the PCB should appease him by giving him leadership of this format so that he can forget about the past injustices done to him by removing him from white ball captaincy :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Get test captaincy to forget about the past injustices done to him as a white ball captain?

Is Babar Genghis Khan now? We are offering him test captaincy to avoid his wrath?

Bro Tanveer understands the assignment. It’s everyone’s first and foremost duty to get the best out of Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen. It’s their uncle’s team as @Usman Chadda saab pointed out, not the Pakistan cricket team.

How is anyone suppose to train these 3 and improve them? They are professional cricketers and human beings. Not house pets 🤣🤣?

Ps: Ik you're being sarcastic, I'm just addressing the general sentiment for those that are actually utilising this argument.

Are we seriously going to train these 20 to 30 year old adults like dogs? These arguments get more and more absurd day by day.

@Rana @mominsaigol - these babaristas are now so devoid of any argument of substance that they’re trying to play the emotional game. “Oh poor Babar, how do you expect him to perform under these conditions!”

It is Hesson's fault bro. He forgot to train Babar in the art of batting. Dont you know it is the coach's job to train Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen in the art of batting, bowling and fielding.

If I was coach I'd make Babar the Test captain to avoid his wrath and apologise for removing him from odi and t20 captaincy.

After all we dont want Genghis Babar Khan to conquer all of Asia now do we?

They’ve just dug too many holes for themselves due to a persistent denial. The latest excuse in the market is: “Pakistan only wins if Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen performs”.

We don’t really know if that’s true or not for ODI’s. Because we have clearly seen Pakistan win in other formats without them.

I agree it’s Hesson’s fault. He likes too many “All Lounders” and this is effecting Babar at 3 and Rizwan at 4.

We do know that its true for odi though?

Since 2017 it was Fakhar or bust. Babar playing in ct 2017 wouldn't have made a difference. But remove fakhar and CT was a goner, Same case with majority of the NZ games we won in which we beat NZ 3-2 and in the world cup.

In the purple patch series(Saim vs Aus ans SA) Saim pretty much soloed both teams, babar and rizzu didn't have any impact.

Unlike these agenda clowns, I use to actually like babar the odi batsmen. But I am not delusional, He was a support batsmen in the same vein of Williamson and Root. He was never Warner, QDK, Rohit, Kohli, Jason Roy etc etc.

Babar however declined and I dont see a comeback on the cards now. Babar's only win is vs India and NZ out of 200+ whiteball games

As for Rizwan, same scenario, 2 wins(Sri Lanka and SA) out of 150+ Whiteball games. Although unlike Babar rizzu was never a support batsmen,

Rizzu was a medicore rubbish batsmen who makes for a decent test no 6/7, and that's about it.

Even in test cricket he is no Carey who comes in clutch. In whiteball he is dreadful, Just awful.

The irony of it all is that I dont even hate Babar Azam 🤣🤣.

He is a talented batsmen who went downhill and declined and is now past it.

His game was always more suited to odi and test and he somewhat got unlucky that Pakistan only play 13 tests in 2 years nowadays and hardly any odi, which is why he tried and failed to make the t20 switch.

I despise indian fans for being racist and biased on this forumn but it seems many Pakistani fans excluding the ones I deeply respect are following a similar trajectory of Being biased when it comes to Babar.

Let it go, he is finished, your criticism would only make sense in odi or test if I criticised him in 2016-2021.

It doesnt make sense for t20 in any era despite the India 2021 game, nor does it make sense for any format post 2022.

3 years of failing(going into year 4) is alot. In 3+ years, NZ home odi series was the only series he avg 51 in and asia cup Nepal game was his last performance.

Its thanks to his 51 avg vs NZ that the 36 avg, 78 sr is so high.

The real figure is likely around avg 28-32 for the past 3 years.

He's right to an extent but had Bobby Azam been a bit stronger mentally he would have stuck to his guns and not listened to every Tom Dick and Harry

He’s right to no extent and Babar Azam did stick to his guns and listened to no one.

Where has Babar Azam shown any change to his approach for him to come out and say “see I did try to play aggressively and look what happened”??

Batting is very technical fundamentally.

If you remember, till 2023 he used to play the ball very late. When criticism started regarding his high strike rate, he started going hard at the ball and reaching out in front which was uncharacteristic of him. His test match technique was also affected.

The criticism increased due to relatively poor overall performances and he could not take it.
Getting dropped from the team affected him further. But he should have found a way to deal with it so I believe the biggest culprit in all this is him only.

Although lately he may have started to play for himself a bit but whether he is a purely selfish player who is only concerned about his runs I am not sure.
Had that been the case he would not have had such good 6-7 years early in his career.

One must remove the evil eye cast on Babar and let RizBar reign to its past glory forever. They should be coach and administrators of PCB.

Babar was a very good batsman, but then Rizwan happened, who managed to drag Babar down to his below-average level. Sadly, Babar wasn't smart enough not to be influenced by Rizwan.

Saeed Ajmal:

"Babar is our superstar, and he needs our backing during hard times. There is no superstar in the current team at the moment. If India's Virat Kohli can play for two years without performing, then we should also respect our players. We have broken the settled team."

People keep saying Babar is a superstar, but is he really? What superstar qualities does he have? Is he a match-winner? Is he handsome? Is he charismatic? The answer is no to all of these questions. So, how is he a superstar? I don't get it.

Ajmal is correct and I was fine with it until patience ran out.

Kohli was 2 years, Babar is at year 3. His decline started asia cup 2022. Not post asia cup 2023 india game like some attention seeking clueless @Mesozoic are claiming lol.

Since 2022 babar flunked every series excluding c string NZ series in odi and Nepal.

However he failed 4 out of 5 games in that series scoring only 1 hundred in the 4th odi. If you are utilising that logic then Post 2023 india game, babar scored multiple half centuries in the world cup, vs Australia and Sa at home dens as well.

It doesnt mean he is inform however.

His 2019 self was peak where he managed to outperform Joe root in odi. That's probably his ceiling.

Kohli comparison doesnt make sense. Kohli's odi status is on par with Viv minus the lack of an odi wc trophy.

Before that Kohli won uncountable game for india . What has Babar done so far in his careers ?

One Sena test Century's in SENA nations. ,

Babar not fit enough to tie the shoe laces of king kohli.

:kp

Between Asia Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2023 against India- Babar scored 6 international hundreds.

Post the 2023 Asia Cup game against India - He has zero international hundreds in two whole years..

I Guess you'll just say it's a coincidence 🤡

This obsessive comparison with Kohli is the reason why Babar appears to have such a drastic fall. His worth was inflated to no ends based on some decent knocks against depleted bowling attacks in useless bilaterals and his fans collectively lost their brains while doing so.

Result is in front you... "this too shall pass" or whatever cringe PR drama ended with egg shells on face.

You're an idiot.

Not only were those sides absolutely rubbish, Nepal, C string sa where both rizzu and ba scored hundred in t20 wtc etc, c string nz with ish sodhi as their ace spinner,

But babar winning a game with a 50 against aus in aus against their main trio in the 2nd odi is > any innings he played dueing those years same with sa where his 70 odd led to a white wash.

A half century against a top tier side > centuries vs crap bowling attacks. From 2022 to 2023 name one good bowling attack Bobby faced in order to score said centuries?

This india narrative was a myth that was peddled around in order to appease your already fragile ego when in reality babar had a far far worse tournament in wc 2022 where he avg 16 throughout the whole tournament in general.

The decline was obvious from a mile away.

He made most of his runs against B string sides who wouldn't really focus on analyzing weaknesses of players. More he played against full strength teams more he got exposed as teams strated figuring out his weakness. With the kind of limitations he has he has over-achieved.

Babar has played plenty of games against garbage bowling attacks since the Asia Cup 2023 India game so why hasn't he managed to score a hundred in all this time? It's pretty evident to anyone with a functioning brain cell that he has lost whatever self belief he had after that game in Colombo and has rightly fallen into a mental slump where he can't even bully weak lineups anymore..he's mentally scarred...just like you're by me...

Scoring a 100 sometimes is situation dependent.

For example he went not out scoring 50+ vs Aus in the 2nd odi, Whether he would have scored a century or not idk but he dominated Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood combined in that game.

Also what crap bowling attack has he faced? Enlighten me?

NZ c string was in t20 where its harder to score and it wasnt home den. Babar bashed them in pindi, It's much harder bashing them in USA or in their own NZ den for obvious reasons.

Ireland game was another not out 70+. How is it his fault if he doesnt have enough runs on the board to get it?

WI played full strength in their own den. This is the same den where the likes of Australia including Steve smith(test) and Cameron Green(all formats) so what struggled with only tim David who has hit a purple patch performing well.

Aus and Sa were full strength except for the 3rd odi where Australia had 5 of their players leave and head + marsh being absent from the series. Again Australia collapsed, it has nothing to do with babar's batting.

Name one weak string attack babar faced? They even dropped him vs Zimbabwe and replaced him for kamran ghulam?

He faced Ireland, Canada, USA in t20. He was poor vs USA 100% but t20 is much harder to score a 100. Canada he went not out? Ireland he bashed anyway?

Go on and highlight the c string bowlers.

Would you like me to highlight the bowlers from 2022 to 2023?

As I said you know nothing, This is what happens when agenda posters comment on this forumn.

They are all rubbish. No wonder bald Eagle banned you, you violate forumn policy left and right with stupidity.

I'm pretty sure all that mumbo Jumbo has zero argument or logic in it and is filled with what ifs and buts and could haves and should haves.

What is rock solid truth is that Babar is yet to score an international hundred after getting his stumps cleaned up by Hardik at Colombo and that's about it. Two whole years...80 odd innings ..zero centuries..right after scoring 6 in the previous 12 months.

Now I feel bad for you, they banned a disabled man for violating forumn policy :vk2

Virat Kohli went 83 consecutive innings without scoring a century.
But in that Period (He won 2 M.O.M, 3 M.O.S)

Babar Azam is currently on a streak of 72 innings without a century*
He still has (0 M.O.M, 0 M.O.S)

As I said earlier Babar not fit enough to tie the shoe laces of king kohli

Anyway, as usual, you are writing complete nonsense. Babar lost form due to captaincy pressure in my opinion.

What kind of nonsense is this? Where has babar tried his hand at being a power hitter?

Joe Root is a classic batsman, but he has actually tried his hand at power hitting too and was a very good improviser when he was playing white ball cricket.

The whole premise of Butt’s statement is wrong. Hardly surprising from someone who thought his smugness would acquit him from spot fixing charges in court
England is hardly a template to follow in ODIs considering their performance in 23WC and 25CT.

I remember England failed to chase against Pakistan in WC19 because Joe Root couldn't accelerate at the end.

Babar has completely lost his form. I don't see any improvement in recent windies series. Some shots he plays look good but then he gets out on the same ball again and again... He should go and play domestic before he plays another international game.

Absolutely spot on.

Afghanistan is a brilliant example of how the right guidance can really make a difference. With support and coaching from India, their cricket has come on in leaps and bounds.

Their players have grown in skill, confidence, and competitiveness on the international stage.
Yet we've seen how the Afghanistani fans behave vs Pakistan matches, I wonder who funds that sort of behaviour?

Afghanistan is a bad example. India chimed in only to hurt Pakistan and its cricket. If Afghanistan wasn't bordering Pakistan, there'd be no Indian sponsored Afghani cricket.

BCCI propping up Afghanistan team is both a political, and cash cow move.

And let's be brutally honest, with all the wars in Afghanistan, there's no real surprise why their style of cricket is aggressive resulting in entertaining cricket.

that’s not my point, I’m addressing Salman butt’s example about Root.

These guys are making out Joe Root has never changed his game which is why he’s successful and apparently babar has tried changing and has suffered. That is absolute and utter nonsense on both fronts!

Anyway, as usual, you are writing complete nonsense. Babar lost form due to captaincy pressure in my opinion.

Looks like you are the one that posted garbage as mods seem to have cut down your post to make absolutely no sense at all.

And no..Babar was the captain from 2019 and he was in decent form until early 2022 and was in acceptable form until the Asia Cup 2022 game. Since then , he has been utter tripe.

Agree with Momin here. Babar's run of bad form started from 2022 Asia Cup

But at the same time the 2023 Asia Cup wrecked Pakistan cricket. Babar , Rizwan, Shaheen, Naseem , Shadab never looked the same after that series. That Asia Cup definitely broke Pakistan cricket. Before that series - Pakistan atleast dominated weaker opposition. After that Asia Cup they started looking vulnerable even against Ireland, Zimbabwe, USA, Bangladesh

2011 doesnt count.

Viv was the main batter and directly responsible for the wc win for his country.

Same consideration goes towards Ponting, Gilly, Steve Smith, Warner and Travis Head. Murli and Jaysuria gets credit as well for his team.

Kohli in 2011 was a footnote and not a main member, he was batting at no 6. His impact in 2011 whether he was playing for the team or not wouldnt have made a damn difference.

Dhoni and yuvi won it for india and maybe Tenda if you count his performance in the semi final vs PK.

Understand the context next time. Also do not ping me again. I have enough on my plate as is.
Agree with this

I don't think even Virat Kohli consider the 2011 WC as something to brag about in his resume

Asia cup broke PK cricket 100%.

The decline of babar however started in 2022. Its just @Mesozoic peddles agendas and assumes wwe pipe bomb promos make him some sort of hot shot lol

Well Babar Azam can blame himself for that. He forced himself at opening spot in t20 that requires you to be Jos Butler

We even Struggled Against Dutch. Games were very close

THREAD IS ABOUT BABAR AZAM'S FORM... STOP THIS IRRELEVANT STUFF ABOUT VIRAT AND SMITH NOW...

ENOUGH

Even when Virat was not scoring century,he had won the game for india .
He won 2 M.O.M, 3 M.O.S.

While Babar MOM - Anda, MOS - Anda

There was never any comparison between the two except for desperate Pakistanis who badly wanted their own Kohli. Too bad they got a Walmart Kohli who isn't even quarter of a player Kohli was at his peak.

All great players go through a bad patch, a prolonged slump of bad form where it appears they have a crisis of confidence amid rising criticism and pressure from fans, pundits, ex players but they have the mental strength, character, fortitude to get out of it and playing a big knock on the big stage.

Babar clearly doesn't have it, he doesn't know what to do now that teams have worked him out with their bowling and fielding plans. Whatever he used to do in the nets and off season is clearly not working anymore, all the complaints about him from the various batting coaches who have worked with him ie Gibbs, Wasim Akram, Hollioake, Yousaf etc that he refuses to implement suggestions to improve his batting, he sticks to his comfort zone are now catching up with him.

He is PCB's highest paid player and earns a monthly retainer of Rs 4.5 million, he has the resources to higher a top notch trainer, nutritionist, dietician, a proper batting coach and has access to the facilities to practice playing 300 balls daily in the nets.

Ultimately you get out of the game what you put in it.

Even finished Kohli won a MoM in a T20 WC final, helping India win it as well as kicked Pakistan out in the CT by hitting a century then kicking the CT out of Pakistan by winning the semi vs Australia.

Kohli has won a T20WC and a CT in 8 months, which is the same achievment by legions of Pakistani players over the last 33 years lol.

Needs to make a decision about his career.

What does he want to achieve? He can’t achieve his longer format goals if he keeps messing his head around trying to adapt to modern T20 requirements. He’s not a T20 player, and is very much on the brink of being an outdated ODI player too. Not that he isn’t useful in this format, but his insistence on being something that he isn’t will destroy whatever skill he still possesses.

that’s not my point, I’m addressing Salman butt’s example about Root.

These guys are making out Joe Root has never changed his game which is why he’s successful and apparently babar has tried changing and has suffered. That is absolute and utter nonsense on both fronts!
You know we're in trouble when the fans side with a prison inmate who bestowed more shame on Pakistan cricket than any other player in PakCric history, this includes Babar Azam's batting performance!

These lulloos were raised on pyjama mercenary cricket and as a result have forgotten the art of patience, protecting the bails, knowing when to accelerate/deccelerate an innings, and not least of all, rotating the strike and playing the field.

Instead, the only batsman that'll do, is one from Brian Lara's Cricket video game, press O for 6!

Joe Root's leaves when batting alone are light years ahead of any defensive block a Pak Test batsman has ever played of late.

Babar was a good T20 and ODI player at the start of his career up to 2023. The problem is that teams have worked him out and have tightened their bowling, fielding plans to him. He has not worked hard to evolve his game, his own work ethic is now pathetic and down the drain.

Hopefully falling out of favour with the PCB and no longer being an automatic selection in the team will give him the kick up the backside which he badly needs

It won’t

He and his support group will feel they have been hard done by. Just like they did when he was removed from captaincy by Zaka Ashraf.

And most Cringy thing about him.. He walks around in T shirt and Short with Slippers .. no fashion sense
Most people might not take this seriously, but clothes do exert power. As a captain, he should’ve had basic dress sense, but he is nothing but a pendu production.

exactly.

He wears those shorts with Spindly Legs.. no muscle definition all hair but in his mind he is King..🤮

I think that this ‘Kohli comparison leading to Babar’s downfall’ narrative is overblown. He did well previously in ODI even when Kohli was doing great. Fact of the matter is that Babar has technical issues which he is not able to fix and which is now affecting him mentally as well. How prolonged a rut this will be could be anybody’s guess, but the issue is that he is losing his prime years in this process.

Babar needs some time to himself and work with one or two trusted guys to get over his technical issues. Does he have those guys is the moot point here.

Thing is Babar was doing well when there was less hype & expectations. Once those Kohli comparisons started - Babar started losing it as he is not mentally strong enough to handle that additional pressure of proving that he is Fab4 material. It became a millstone around his neck. Everytime he went out he knew people wud expect him to do better than Kohli. Infact this is why I feel his decline started in the 2022 World T20 bcoz of that game against India. Before that game there was so much hype about Babr - Kohli face off. But Babar got out first ball duck and Kohli went on to produce a career defining innings. After that game Babar never looked the same. bcoz in his head he realised he came off 2nd best by a long margin in that face off. And he never fully recovered from that setback

SO yes those non stop Kohli comparisons took its toll on his mindset & form

He didn’t say this on Geo News, he said it on the show he does with Dr Nauman Niaz. What a b.s statement!

That is just mental aspect. But i think it is more the technical aspect that unravelled him. For one thing he consistently played against B string C string sides and managed to achieve rankings. Look he was good against Nepal while making 161. But he failed against other teams. So it is not just the mindset, form. It is also a case of him being exposed by full strength teams. It is very easy to block his scoring areas. He doesn't have this up and over shots that you see from top flight batsmen in internationals. Root is way more innovative than Tests than Babar is in LOIs. Root is not even that good a LOI batsman.
