Firstly, Alhamdolillah that he will recover from what appears to be a failed assassination attempt.

Question now is who is behind this attack and what are the motives for this attack?

I believe it was a warning shot. The next 24 hours will be critical - if the nation of Pakistan and PTI supporters don't raise their voices, the real shot will be fired.

Tbh I struggle to believe the 'establishment' is behind this.

Online there is a bit of pro pti echo chamber but it is a fact that in many areas of the country Imran is detested and seen as an agitator.

This attack happened in PMLN heartlands. To me its more likely some fed up member of the public decided to take things into his own hands than the armys involvement in such a poorly executed operation.

Agree on this, Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sana ullah are behind this. Good thing is people of Pakistan came out in public and demanding arrest of both Goons.

Someone so high profile, it’s crazy something like this could happen in this day and age.

Isn’t the motive obvious?

To scare IK and PKs, but the cat is out of the bag. The junta are being openly named and are also open abused.

Anyone that says the establishment had no involvement in this is clearly not right in the head.

First of all, The ISI makes a press conference after Arshad Sharif’s assassination. They talk about how Imran Khan held meetings behind closed doors etc. Prior to this conference, Bajwa stated that the establishment doesn’t get involved in politics.

Secondly, Imran Khan does a PC and mentions “Dirty Harry” and names two generals I believe Faisal and Faheem?

Now, we have an attempted assassination and Imran Khan has a message from the hospital once again mentioning general Faisal Naseer as the man behind it all.

I agree. The press conference was a warning to IK.

This was not a warning, as the aim was to take his life but life is in the hands of God not some sellout traitors and lackeys of foreign nations.

I doubt they will try this again now.

Its probably a good time for the corrupt to run off now, as the establishment will change course fearing the wrath of the people.

Unlikely they would have facilitated such a botched low level operation where the shooter has been caught.

This establishment are experts at reading the mood of the country (until recently). They know Imran inside out and how a "warning" would only strengthen him.

This operation was so low level that had it happened at a PPP event most of the people here would have been claiming false flag operation :))

Only way out of this mess is elections supervised by outside observers.

Nothing will change until the people stand up against the establishment. The last thing they want is a civil war especially with a new coas coming in.

Imran Khan needs to realise now that you can’t be a nice guy and succeed as a politician. Every politician needs blood on their hands to stay in power and it’s time Imran Khan gets dirty. You cannot be nice and gentle with criminals and murderers.

PTI Secretary-General Asad Umar claimed Thursday that party chairman Imran Khan suspects three people — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a senior military officer — are behind the assassination attempt on him.

The former prime minister was injured in an assassination attack on him earlier today when a man opened fire at him.

"Imran Khan has said that he had the information beforehand that these people might be involved in the assassination attempt on him," Umar said during a video statement alongside party leader Mian Aslam Iqbal.

Umar, quoting the PTI chairman, demanded that all three people — the premier, the interior minister, and the senior military officer —
"be removed from their offices."

The PTI leader added that Khan has warned that if these officials are not removed from their officers, then the party would hold countrywide protests as Pakistan cannot run in this manner anymore.

"If the demands are not met, then all the party's workers are awaiting Khan's call, and when he does give that call, then protests will take place across the country."

Umar said that he spoke to the doctors — including Dr Faisal Sultan — about Khan's situation and they have informed him that his condition is stable and out of danger.

"The doctors said that bullets hit him and at this time, it is unclear as to how many they were. Three or two pellets are still lodged in his leg. The bullet also chipped his bone. The CT scan is also clear."

"Khan is ready to sacrifice his life for the nation. There should be no doubt about it now. He is fine, but he says that we should always believe in Allah," Umar said.

PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, speaking to Reuters, said: "It was a clear assassination attempt. Khan was hit but he’s stable. There was a lot of bleeding."

"If the shooter had not been stopped by people there, the entire PTI leadership would have been wiped out."

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi condemned the attack on Khan and said the former prime minister would now have to move towards his destination with "more force".

Following the attack on the former prime minister during his long march, which left him with a bullet injury on his right foot, the Pakistan Army "highly condemned" the incident.

Politicians and government leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, among other leaders, condemned the incident in "strongest words."

Centre demands JIT; condemns Umar's statement

Interior Minister Rana Sanauallah has demanded the Punjab government immediately constitute a joint investigation team (JIT), comprising senior officers to ensure a transparent and credible inquiry into the incident.

Addressing a joint news conference with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb in Islamabad, he said the government condemns all sorts of violence and its manifestations.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has immediately sought a detailed report from the Punjab government, Punjab chief secretary, and the province's inspector-general regarding the firing incident.

The interior minister said that the federal government, on the directions of PM Shehbaz Sharif, has assured Punjab to extend all possible assistance to probe the case.

He, however, condemned and rejected baseless accusations from the PTI leadership for wrongly implicating PM Shehbaz, him, and a senior officer of a state institution in the firing incident.

He said it is highly regrettable that PTI is running a hate campaign against the federal government, rival political parties, and state institutions.

Sanaullah said the PTI should seek the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for security laps as maintaining law and order and providing security to the marchers were the sole responsibility of the provincial government.

Rana has been threatening IK on a daily basis and today, the threat was carried out.

They got some ghareeb from the streets paid him and told him to kill IK.

They wanted him to get caught so he could tell the nation his reasons behind the assassination. So people start doubting it was the establishment.

Usually what happens is that the crowd would’ve killed him on the spot, but he was protected by the police.

In Pakistan, when a chor gets caught a huge crowd will jump him and he’ll either be dead or taken to hospital. So, when an assassin gets caught trying to kill the most popular man on the planet, do you really think they’re just gonna let him go? The police protected him, got the statement from him and released it to the lifafa journalists.

This is my fear from the beginning, if IK is taken out, what happens to PTI? I think without IK we are back into darkness and stay there until we are broken apart or neutered.

This was a shot to kill.

Make no mistake about it. Just have a look into the guy taken into custody does he come across as an elite soldier to have a dead accuracy of just getting IK leg from a distance using pistol while being surrounded by thousand of supporters? This is shot to kill and thankfully a national calamity has been avoided.

Let's not create a conspiracy out of it. The attacker has already told his motive in a video.

Which area is that? Interior Sindh?

Property dealers... DHA builders.... Sell outs.. you guessed it, Pak Army and it's filthy generals are to blame.

As is common knowledge now in Pakistan, "chowkidaar chor hai".

Maybe not tomorrow, or in a few weeks. But its possible in a few months they could try again. Alot depends on the new chief.

If IK is assassinated he will win the next election from his grave.

plenty of people in the party who could be candidates for the PM job. Hammad Azhar, Faisal Javed Khan, Querishi, Asad Umar, etc

Either it was a false attack, because I find it hard to believe that how can that attacker with a normal gun be able to pin point Imran from such a distance with many people in between and he got him on the leg.

Than after which fake images from earlier years being shared that dawn did a fact check and proved it.

Bullet hit his leg but blood is on Faisal shirt and Faisal has a habit of doing such thing as he is someone from advertising.

Or

If that shooter was a genuine shooter and Imran was hit genuinely, than this is the establishment. You need to be a very good shooter to get your accuracy right of the exact person you want to go after.

But another problem is killing Imran is very easy. If the establishment wants to kill Imran, all you need to do is you need to better the odds. Whenever Imran convoy passes through bridges and sign boards, there are people hiding under it just to shake or touch Imran hand.

If establishment really wanted to kill him they would had done so by hiding a shooter on a bridge or those boards and getting a clear shot with more accuracy.

If the attacker is from establishment than it was probably to scare him, and to do that he needed a perfect shot right on the leg

Anyways, investigation needs to be done so that a clear image comes out. Right now its all speculation and makes no sense at all.

And this was the guy who on this forum used to take pride that army and Imran are on the same page so its ok that they have influence on our politics.

Aur about dekhoo... how the tables have turned

You can hear shots from an automatic machine gun being fired in the video clips. Does the man arrested look like someone who could get his hands on one of those? He looks more like someone who is found selling samosas from a raidhi on the side of the road. Doesn't even look like he's got a machine gun in the clip that shows him getting disarmed.

I know that, I said he looked more like a samosa raidhi wala than an assassin, and also looked like he was being disarmed of a hand gun, not an automatic machine gun which can be heard when the shots are being fired. Have you seen the video?

Dispute over possible motive

Immediately after the shooting, some of his allies told media that Mr Khan believed the current political leaders - PM Sharif, the Interior Minister and a military general - were behind the attack.

One spokesman, Raoof Hasan, told the BBC's Newshour programme the government was "attempting to eliminate [Imran Khan] physically".

Pakistan's leaders have not yet addressed such allegations.

Police on Tuesday night released a video confession of the man who they said had attempted to kill Mr Khan.

It's unclear the conditions under which the interview was carried out. But in response to police asking him why he had opened fire he said: "He was misguiding the people. I wanted to kill him. I tried to kill him."

The video has been dismissed by Mr Khan's allies as a "cover-up".

One suspect remains in custody but no charges have been laid.

You are right - I was confused about that.

But they have announced that a second gunman was also arrested.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the attitude of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Imran Khan took the country to a high pitch while playing the politics of hate and spoiling the minds of people.

He condemned attack on Imran Khan and prayed for early recovery of injured people. He said that Imran Khan wanted to use the body of a citizen and his (Imran’s) injury for his cheap and dirty politics. While talking to Shahzeb Khanzada in his programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada kay Saath” on Geo TV, he said that PTI leadership including Imran Khan tells lies easily and fluently. He said that they had registered false cases against us and now they would also do the same and we would face them. He said that the purpose of Imran Khan is to set country on fire.

He questioned who is sowing the seed of hatred and prefers death to holding of talks. It is the law of nature that who ignites the fire may also burn in it. Rana Sana said that Imran starts the day by abusing me and it is unfair to praise those who abuse us. He said that if he involved in murders then why he (Imran) felt need to file fake case of heroin against him.

Sanaullah said that Imran Khan calls the name of those to whom he wants to sit with them and if those who have power to impose martial law could enforce it five time in last six months. But they decided to follow Constitution for the sake of people and country and Imran Khan does not digest this act of them and Imran told them that he will not allow them to follow law and Constitution and wants them to bring him into power by interfering politically and wants to wipe out opposition.

Rana Sanaullah claimed that army chief made it clear that they will step forward if anyone tries to destabilise country. Rana Sana said that selection of army chief is a matter between military leadership and prime minister. He said that appointment of army chief will be made any time after first week of November.

Meanwhile, the federal government Thursday demanded the Punjab government to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising senior officers to investigate the attack on Imran Khan’s container in a fair, free and credible manner.

Addressing a press conference along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the entire government and its allies had condemned the firing incident. He said the federal government had also assured the Punjab government of all assistance during the investigation.

The minister also appealed to shun the politics of violence and hatred and avoid putting the country in any danger. The minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif and coalition partners of the government had also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident. He also prayed for long life of those who got injured and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of a worker.

Rana Sanaullah condemned the statements of PTI leader Shireen Mazari, who accused him and an institution for involvement in the incident. He said Fawad Chaudhry should also avoid irresponsible statement of taking revenge which might create unrest.

The minister regretted that the PTI leaders were inciting people for attacks by holding the PM, interior minister and an official of an institution responsible for the incident. “If you ignite fire, remember that you may also be burnt in it,” he warned.

The interior minister said that the Punjab chief minister and the Punjab government should resign after the alleged attacker’s video was leaked. He also commended a PTI worker and police for nabbing the accused red-handed; otherwise, some people might have had more opportunities to politicise this issue.

Following the instructions of the PM, he said the provincial government had been assured that the federal government was ready to provide whatever assistance was required in the investigation into the matter. “We condemn all forms of violence. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has been a victim of violence in 2017 and 2018, while the latest example was the incident that happened in Masjid-e-Nabwi, in which the leaders of a political party used inappropriate words against political opponents near the shrine of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”

Rana Sanaullah said the Saudi government arrested these people and gave exemplary punishments. After the incident, the PM went to Saudi Arabia for the first time and requested the Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman for the release of these people and they were released.

He said that Asad Umar gave a statement on behalf of Imran Khan that the responsibility of the attack lies on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and an officer of an institution. “Look at the confession statement of the accused, who was caught by your workers and handed over to the Punjab Police. “There is your government and the chief minister, but you are trying to use this incident for nefarious purposes without any evidence,” he added.

Rana Sanaullah said that the statement of the accused should not have been disseminated in the media. “The statement of the accused was leaked; did we do that? Were the police, the Punjab government ours?” he asked and demanded the Punjab government to resign instead of suspending the police officials.

To a question, the minister said he was a political worker and supports coordination and contacts among political parties to resolve issues through negotiation. “But what we can do as our opponent demonstrates stubborn attitude and refuses to sit with us,” he added.

The minister said the federal government had serious concerns over the security lapse, but was ready to cooperate with the Punjab government for credible and fair investigation. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned attack on PTI Chief Imran Khan during long march in Gujranwala in which he was injured. Prime minister prayed for early recovery of Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, condemnation poured in from all sides following the firing at the PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other leaders in Wazirabad on Thursday. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and directed Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to submit an immediate report on the incident.

In a statement released soon after the firing, the prime minister said the federal government would extend all support necessary to the Punjab government for security and investigation into the incident. Shehbaz said there should be no place for violence in the country’s politics.

He also prayed for the recovery and health of PTI chairman and other injured. He also condoled the death of a person in the firing incident. “I condemn the firing on Imran Khan and his associates and pray for the recovery of the injured,” tweeted Nawaz.

In his tweet, President Dr. Arif Alvi prayed for the speedy recovery of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other injured people. The president also expressed condolences to the family of a deceased political worker.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly condemned the incident and denounced all kinds of violence in national politics. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, while taking the floor, regretted the incident and said that trends of violence and settling personal scores and personal vendetta in politics should be discouraged. He said a political worker should not give up culture and path of dialogue in politics and follow the way of dialogue.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over the incident. He said on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reports on the incident were sought from the chief secretary, IGP Punjab and federal security agencies.

Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal thanked Allah Almighty that Imran Niazi was safe. “There is no room for violence in politics. I strongly condemn this incident,” he said and demanded the Punjab government to review the security arrangements. Federal Minister Mian Javed Latif strongly condemned the incident and prayed for full recovery of Imran and other PTI leaders.

Former president and PPPP President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman PPP and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the attack and demanded that the matter should be thoroughly probed. They strongly condemned the attack on Imran Khan and prayed for his swift recovery.

Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Atta Marri strongly condemned the incident. She said any kind of violence or bloodshed during protests was unacceptable and must be condemned.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal of Balochistan National Party (Mengal) also condemned the attack on Imran, saying such incidents take place when doors are closed for dialogue in politics. “Politics has reached such a stage that we believe in bullet and not in ballot,” he said.

NA Speaker Raja Parvaiz Ashraf also condemned the incident and prayed for an early recovery of those injured. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb condemned the incident. In a press conference, she said the incident was highly condemnable and prayed for Imran Khan’s recovery.

“I think the political arenas within Pakistan should not become bloody. The prime minister has instructed the interior minister to seek an immediate report from the chief secretary and IGP Punjab. Whatever support and assistance is required will be provided,” she said.

“The long march was at that time in the limits of the Punjab government. The Punjab Police and the administration will give their facts and report on it. The chief minister should clarify the position of his government. The man has been arrested in Gujrat [Division] and has admitted that he is the one who tried to kill Imran Khan.

“The Punjab Police should cordon off the crime scene. It should be immediately sealed as all forensics will be conducted from this location. This incident has happened within the boundaries of Punjab. If those people want to learn a lesson from today’s incident, then my advice to them is not to politicise this incident. Choose your words responsibly. We should all be careful in our choice of words. Irresponsible statements should be avoided until the chief minister Punjab and the Punjab government present a factual report on the incident,” the minister said.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira condemned the assassination attempt and demanded a transparent investigation into the incident. “It is not in the interest of Pakistan and all of us. Politics is not the name of distraction and chaos, but it teaches us peace and brotherhood.”

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) condemned the incident. In a statement, the military media wing said the firing incident during long march near Gujranwala was highly condemnable.

“Sincere prayers for precious life lost and speedy recovery and well-being of PTI Chairman Mr Imran Khan and all those injured in this unfortunate incident,” the statement said. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also condemned the attack. In a statement, the HRCP said, “All political parties have the right to hold peaceful assemblies and to expect security from the state when doing so. The incident must be investigated swiftly and transparently, and the perpetrators brought to book. It is also vital that this incident not be allowed to derail the democratic process at a time when the country so desperately needs political certainty.”

owning a gun is not an issue here, infact we are no worse than USA.

People are dying of hunger , It may be cheap for you or in Adam khel but its way expensive if you go for a specials one.

again stop painting a false picture. Someone dying of hunger wouldn't close shop to be in a protest.

anyways, wait for the investigation atleast

Investigation or no investigation, question remains the same no samosa wala can buy expensive weapons' in Pakistan, You think you know more about it is wrong. Investigation in Pakistan that's a big lol but I don't want to even comment on that.

Looks like a false flag operation to me. Everyone knows any attack on Imran Khan and people will directly suspect the ruling govt due to their rivalry. I am sure the present govt in Pakistan is not that stupid to shoot on its own feet. Had they killed Khan, he would have been martyred and if he escaped death (like in this case) his popularity will increase more due to sympathy factor.

Stage an attack, take a shot in the legs which wont kill you, gain more public sympathy, turn more people against rulling govt for trying to kill and supress opposing voice - a classic old school but predictable false flag operation.

This attack has made Imran more popular but at the expense of Pakistan's internal security reputation. Normally in any safe country, this kind of assasination attempt is unheard off.

Whoever has done this attack, whether false flag or revenge attack - they should have thought about reputation of Pakistan first rather than their personal gains.

Wait..so all those photos is massive turnouts in his jalsas are fake? What about the fact he has been winning by elections? And that pml heartland has PTI government and PDM is limited just to center?

So you would stage a false flag operation with a machine gun raking fire in a general direction and hope to hit his leg precisely? Are you really this dense?

Two suggestions of false flag agendas been raised and both by Indian members. Guys no one has blamed India yet, but you are making it very difficult not to put that out there with this nonsense.

Three options IMHO:

1. Done by PML(N) to kill IK
2. Done by Army/ISI to scare IK - if they wanted him dead, he would be dead
3. Done by Zardari to discredit Army/ISI and PML(N)

I am giving my opinion mate based on the question asked in OP. Let's be honest, this attack only helps Khan as it would make him more popular among masses. Why would present Pakistani govt would take any such step which would make its rival even stronger? This attack only helped Imran Khan and damages the reputation of Pakistan govt. There is nothing to gain by the present govt by attacking Imran Khan...absolutely none. So, one can't help but think it's a false flag staged attack as Imran can go to any extend to get back the PM seat.

And LOL at false flag can't happen with machine gun. Either you are too innocent or naive. Read about various false flag operations around the world.

As far as blaming India is concerned, of course you won't as India has nothing to do with Pakistan's internal politics.

One cannot discount RAW doing this to spread unrest and uncertainty in Pakistan.

We are imploding without RAW's interference. They will have the popcorn out.

you go to any indian news channel on youtube, read the comments , indians are saying it was staged and he did that himself , same non-sense are being said here by some indians and anti IK posters ,

if it was NS instead of IK , the same indians will say its Army and what not ,

but anti Ik and Indians are using same narrative in this case , which is effing strange ......

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in an inflammatory address on Friday shifted the blame of the assassination attempt on PTI chief Imran Khan onto the former prime minister for what he described as “crossing the red lines of religion”.

He expressed these views during the National Assembly (NA) centering on yesterday’s assassination attempt on the former prime minister, which he alleged was being used to further “political objectives”.

Imran, who has been leading an anti-government protest march to the capital for almost a week, survived a gun attack on Thursday in Punjab’s Wazirabad. He sustained a wound in his shin when the container was hit by a volley of bullets.

A PTI supporter was killed in the incident and 14 others, including lawmakers, were injured. A suspect was arrested who, in a leaked video, confessed that he attempted to kill Imran.

Addressing the NA today, Asif attempted to shift the blame onto the former premier, saying: “The suspect’s videos that have surfaced … they show that religious fanaticism motivated the attack.

“Time and time again, the former prime minister came close to crossing boundaries — or he crossed the boundaries — he crossed the red lines of religion because of which a man attacked him.”

The minister went on to quote the suspect as proof that Imran had brought the attack upon himself.

He began his speech by saying that the incident was a “cause of embarrassment for the nation”.

“And we, the federal government, want that if there is a conspiracy behind it, it should be brought to the fore.”

The defence minister stressed that “we should not refrain from taking any step that will prove to be helpful for us in this matter” and that the investigation into the incident and efforts to “go to the bottom of the matter” should not be politicised.

Asif also criticised the suspension of the police station staff in the remits of which the incident took place. “Staff there have been suspended not because the incident took place, but because the suspect’s video was leaked. And the [Punjab] chief minister then transferred the case to [a police station] in his own district.”

The defence minister saw the move as “efforts to sabotage the matter, make it political and [use it to] achieve political objectives”.

“For God’s sake, the entire nation is looking towards us … and we are letting this incident fall victim to politics,” he regretted.

The minister called for the culprits and those backing them to be exposed and constituting a joint investigation team on the incident.

“Don’t let this incident fall victim to politics,” he reiterated, while adding: “They should go after the suspects, but all that they have been doing [demonstrates] that they are not interested in the investigation. They have made Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister and DGC culprits.”

He recalled that Imran previously said he had contacts in the establishment. “And now those contacts are being named in the murder attempt [case],” the minister said. “By naming politicians and a senior army officer, they are taking the matter in a direction where they will not find any clue or suspect.”

Furthermore, he said, there were also reports that shots were fired from both sides — “that a guard also fired”. “And not just bullet casings from a pistol — said to have been used by the suspect — but also those from a submachine gun were found at the site of the incident,” he added, citing social media reports.

“And today, people trust social media more than the other media.”

The minister also said Imran, too, had previously given “warnings” of the occurrence of such an incident.

Then on October 28, the Intelligence Bureau informed the Punjab government an incident of such nature could take place “against you in the area or its vicinity”.

“There was a [prior] warning.”

But now, the minister claimed, the incident was being used to achieve political objectives. “And I condemn it.”

He also condemned what he described as using the event to defame any individuals or institutions, and at the same time, gave assurances that the federal government would fully support any steps taken to complete an inquiry into it and meet the “merits of justice”.

I already made my stance clear that I think IK is not faking it however if I were faking a bullet would for sympathy, I would pick leg or an arm conveniently too.

If really big organizations like army and intelligence were planning it they wouldn’t hire a joke of an assassin lol, I am sure you can hire better ones on Craigslist with a few $$$.

I feel this was work of a brainwashed fanatic acting on his own.

Name me one proven false flag attack where a machine gun was used.

One cannot discount RAW doing this to spread unrest and uncertainty in Pakistan.

So wait IK is doing marches without RAW help, the govt is clearly against him without RAW help, army etc do press conferences without RAW prompting.

Why or where do you think RAW is involved?

you go to any indian news channel on youtube, read the comments , indians are saying it.....

I don’t think YouTube comments would be a place I would start to get reliable source or insights into current affairs/diplomacy.

Also you should focus on what other Pakistanis are saying on this, Indians have 0 stake in this unless India is dragged in for no reason. You are looking in the wrong places as always my friend.

i am not saying india is involved, but i dont understand why anti IK supporters and indian media/public have same narrative ?

Maybe because many don’t like IK? It’s a clown show right now why wouldn’t Indian trolls prefer that over IK’s somewhat credible(comparatively) government.

I liked Wasim Akram as a kid but would i want my team to play him ofcourse not lol

You are going too deep lol, basically IK is a colorful personality and that gives a lot of memes and entertainment for everyone in a good and bad way.

Indians know Nawaz Sharif but don’t think most know who Shabaz Sharif is.

Also IK as we see has a rabid and vocal fan base most of them middle class folks with access to internet which triggers online wars etc.

That’s the extent of it. It has nothing to do with IK’s policies etc. seriously what has changed for India regardless of the regime change. Even the ones saying oh Imran blasted Modi in UN etc as the shining achievement know it doesn’t hold any value.

On a personal note though I think IK means well and is an honest guy but I can also see he is very narcissistic and now has a taste for power. I am sure that’s how most in India see him.

I know that, I said he looked more like a samosa raidhi wala than an assassin, and also looked like he was being disarmed of a hand gun, not an automatic machine gun which can be heard when the shots are being fired. Have you seen the video?

This ain’t a Hollywood movie where assassin in 6’5 jacked guy with huge biceps.

Usually real life assassins tend to be guys you would least expect to be capable of such acts.

Are you telling me he is the best available assassin that an institution like Pak army or ISI can hire?

Pretty weak weapon for a serious assassination attempt, specially if backed by the establishment or RAW. False flag imo is a legitimate possibility.

Targetted assassination would be via a sniper rifle from 400m. Not from a inaccurate automatic weapon.

Targetted assassination would be via a sniper rifle from 400m. Not from a inaccurate automatic weapon.

Same principle applies for a false flag hit. You would be more likely to kill the target than wound if you are operating a machine gun, bullets would be flying everywhere. The samosa wala was obviously the patsy, while the real shooter had the machine gun.

If IK is assassinated he will win the next election from his grave.

plenty of people in the party who could be candidates for the PM job. Hammad Azhar, Faisal Javed Khan, Querishi, Asad Umar, etc

Well tbh I do not trust anyone else other than Imran, only other person is Asad Umar, rest are all lota. I fear if IK is gone, the party will split into factions and Pakistan ka Allah ke Hafiz.

LAHORE: While investigators caught two more suspects a day after the gun attack on ex-premier Imran Khan, a deadlock over the registration of a case continued following the reported refusal by the PTI chief to withdraw the name of a senior army officer from the complaint, which also carries the names of the prime minister and interior minister.

Reports suggest Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi is caught between ‘the devil and the deep blue sea’ as Mr Khan, who essentially calls the shots for the ruling coalition in Punjab, continues to insist on nominating the army officer in the FIR.

The matter was also taken up by the Punjab cabinet during its meeting on Friday, which was attended by IGP Faisal Shahkar as well as other senior government officials and the provincial law minister.

An official privy to the developm*ent told Dawn the meeting discussed the serious issues pertaining to all the legal aspects of the registration of a case.

He said the huddle also discussed that a further delay in the registration of a case could spoil all efforts to secure evidence and punish the suspects involved in the armed attack on Mr Khan’s container in Wazirabad.

A man died, while 14 others, including Mr Khan and PTI leaders, were injured in the incident.

Sharing the political dimensions of the issue, the source said CM Elahi was against the ‘logic’ of nominating the senior army officer in the case. The CM and PTI leaders held many meetings on the issue where the former attempted to convince them to drop the name of the army officer, the source added.

“The matter of filing an application with the police was under discussion between the PTI [ruling coalition partner] and the Punjab government,” he said.

He said the police chief conveyed to the government that the FIR had been the first authentic document about the commission of the cognisable of offence to start investigations.

Unfortunately, the investigation process in this respect has come to a grinding halt, despite the detention of three suspects, including the alleged shooter who was caught red-handed on the spot.

At the cabinet meeting, the IGP told other participants that the police had not received any application to register the FIR of an assassination attempt on former prime minister Imran Khan.

Regarding the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), the Punjab police were of the opinion it would be premature to form a JIT before even lodging the case.

The meeting remained inconclusive when it was apprised that CM Elahi and the PTI’s top leadership would discuss the matter in another round of meetings to be held late on Friday.

The PTI leaders, however, decided to hand over a copy of the application to the CM after taking a final decision in the meetings.

Responding to a question, the official said two other suspects Waqas and Sajid Butt who were arrested by the police on Friday believed to have sold the pistol and bullets to the prime suspect, Naveed Basheer, for Rs20,000. He said the key suspect was handed over to the Gujranwala Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officers for further interrogation.

A senior police officer told Dawn that a set of blunders had been noticed by the law enforcement agencies while examining the footage of the crime scene recoded by a dozen of CCTV cameras. The biggest of the blunders was the security lapse that must be put on the priority in the starting phase of investigations into the incident, he said.

He said the Punjab police chief had taken up this issue with the provincial government in Friday’s meeting of the sub-cabinet committee, where he unveiled that Mr Khan’s private security had violated the advisory issued by the police.

Security advisory

In the security advisory, Gujrat police had suggested strongly to the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Imran Khan to use bullet-proof rostrum, amid serious threats to his life in the public gathering. “The Gujranwala police had offered to the chief security officer that it can provide the bullet-proof rostrum for the security of Imran Khan at the container he was using in the long march,” the police officer said.

The matter was also highlighted by the police in some sub-cabinet meetings, he said, adding that the CSO had received the advisory and gave an ‘undertaking’ to the police that it would be installed at the container.

However, when the security advisory was violated, the police then suggested the security officers of Imran Khan to give access to the police on the container to take control of his security. Yet the security staff refused to allow the armed police to get into the container, where Mr Khan was physically interacting with everyone reaching there and this ‘blatant violation’ had irked the police high-ups.

In response to a question about the ‘other shooters’ involved in the armed attack on the container in Wazirabad, the police officer said it would be premature to say anything conclusive as the investigations were yet to be started.

He also pointed out several other legal flaws that could create troubles for the investigators in the court of law, saying that when Mr Khan got firearm injury he was first to be shifted to the nearby government hospital for a medico-legal case. The law doesn’t allow the victim to get ‘first’ treatment from a private health facility, because ‘incorrect or incomplete’ medico-legal reports may trigger a pause or delay in legal proceedings, he explained.

In Mr Khan’s case, he said, he was shifted from Wazirabad to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital, Lahore, which was not authorised to issue an officially acceptable medico-legal certificate. He said there were reports that the Punjab government had sent a team of doctors from the public sector Jinnah Hospital Lahore to Shaukat Khanum to complete legal formalities.

Interior Min*ister Rana Sanaullah on Friday termed the attack on Imran Khan a case of religious extremism, asserting that his own party PML-N considered the ex-premier a “political rival and not an enemy”.

“Details about the attacker [who is] in custody will astound you,” he told a presser, hinting that he was linked with some religious extremist group.

A second video of the attacker showed that he was indoctrinated by extremists, he said. “The reasons described by the accused for his action are very alarming and dangerous. Such allegations were made in the past as well. And after the video went viral, it is possible that such narratives will be fuelled, and embolden more religious extremists.”

Mr Sanaullah also raised questions over the delay in registration of an FIR in the case and expressed concern over the leaked statement of the suspect caught from the crime scene. About the delay in the FIR registration, he said, “Maybe they are trying to manage this, which is very concerning.”

He said following the leak of the first part of the suspect’s statement, the entire police station had been suspended and even then another video emerged. He said the matter needed to be investigated.

The interior minister said there were already intelligence reports suggesting threats to the PTI chief’s life, which had been conveyed to the PTI, but they were ‘simply ignored’.

He said the allegations levelled by the attacker in the video that went viral were dangerous and could enhance the threat. He appealed to the PTI leadership to change their behaviour, warning that it could lead to another ‘accident’.

He said it was very unfortunate Mr Khan blamed “three individuals” for the assassination attempt without any investigation or proof. The PTI chief had been using same language since 2014 protests when he used a container for his sit-in in Islamabad, he said, adding that such behaviour was “not in the interest of democracy”.

Responding to a question about talks with the PTI, Mr Sanaullah said the opposing party’s response was public. “This is political extremism. They say they would rather die than sit and talk to us,” he said.

“How do we have a dialogue with them or talk about betterment under the prevailing circumstances?” he questioned.

He criticised PTI leaders for instigating people to take revenge from those they unnecessarily held responsible for the attack, and slammed a minister in PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for brandishing gun.

‘Immature statements’

Addressing a separate press conference, Adviser to Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira criticised the PTI leadership for exploiting the political situation and inciting violence among their followers.

Mr Kaira, who belongs to the PPP, said the PTI leadership was continuously issuing immature statements against the politicians as well as the state institutions — it should be stopped.

“Just blaming the PM, interior minister and senior officer for the attack is irresponsibility — at least let the inquiry report come or if you have any proof please put that too in front of the public, but just making inflammatory statements was neither good for the system nor for the country,” Mr Kaira said.

In yet another news conference, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said the entire political leadership had not only condemned the incident, but also prayed for the swift recovery of all the injured, including Mr Khan.

“PML-N had no enmity with Imran Khan and there were only some political differences between both parties,” Saad Rafique said.

He added there should be no politics over such incidents which could lead to chaos and anarchy, and condemned mob attack on the houses of Rana Sanaullah in Faisalabad and other important state buildings.

Citing Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom, he said Asif Ali Zardari raised the slogan of ‘Pakistan Khapay’, but three PTI leaders started instigating the masses after the attack.

The federal government has decided to take legal action against the top leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) including former prime minister Imran Khan for leveling baseless allegations against the military and its senior leaders.

The government has sought advice from the law ministry and the ministry of defence to take legal action against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders.

The law ministry is likely to present its recommendations to Prime Minister Shehbaz today (Saturday).

Imran Khan and his compatriots can be arrested in light of the legal advice and evidence, according to government sources.

The sources claimed that the interior minister has directed the Federal Investigation Agency to take action against those involved in levelling allegations against senior military officers.

On Friday, Imran Khan in his video statement from Shaukat Khanum Hospital Lahore claimed that a senior military official reportedly posted in Islamabad was trying to influence his party’s leaders and supporters apart from running a censorship campaign among other things to push the PTI chief out of politics.

Following his statement, the military reacted strongly to the allegations and demanded that the federal government investigate and take action against those defaming the institution.

the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) late on Friday said that the military termed the allegations leveled by Imran as “baseless and irresponsible”.

“Allegations by PTI chairman against the institution and particularly a senior army officer are absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for,” the statement read.

“Pakistan army prides itself for being an extremely professional and well disciplined organisation with a robust and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for unlawful acts, if any, committed by uniformed personnel,” it said.

It added that if at any point the ‘honor’, safety and prestige of its rank and file are tarnished by vested interests by leveling frivolous allegations, “the institution would jealousy safeguard its officers and soldiers no matter what.”

Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar rejected on Saturday "any attempt to equate criticism of individuals with criticism of the institution.

The former minister’s remarks came in response to the military's media wing issuing a statement following deposed prime minister Imran Khan's address after surviving an assassination bid.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) maintained in its statement that the “allegations” levelled by the PTI chief against the institution and particularly a senior army officer were absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for, terming them “baseless and irresponsible”.

In a series of tweets, Umar stated that “the ISPR's statement of yesterday has made unfounded allegations against Imran Khan. He has never spoken against the institution”.

He maintained that Imran had always spoken about the need to strengthen the institution.

“Criticism of individuals should NOT be called criticism of institution,” he said.

He asked the ISPR that “if no member of the institution does anything wrong, why are court martials carried out”, adding that “even general officers have been court martialed in the past”.

“If they do carry out acts which can be subject to court martial, why cannot they be criticized as individuals?” he questioned.

He stated that the institution deserved “love and respect based on the sacrifices made by its members to protect the nation”. However, he highlighted that not every individual was “necessarily worthy of that love and respect”.

The PTI leader furthered that if the ISPR wanted to hear “what disrespect for martyrs and the institution sound like, all they have to do is listen to the NA [National Assembly] speech of the “current defense minister where he claims the institution has ripped off the flesh of the nation from its bones”.

Call to protest

Earlier, in a separate tweet Umar called on PTI supporters to gather for protest in all cities across Pakistan at 5 pm on Sunday, adding that the protest site for each city would be announced by the local party heads.

“Let’s show them that no one can suppress a truly free nation,” he said.

He further said that he himself would partake in the protest at Liberty Chowk in Lahore.

ISPR rejects Imran’s statement

Hours after former premier Imran Khan addressed the nation, the miliary said that “allegations” levelled by the “PTI chairman” against the institution and particularly a senior army officer are absolutely unacceptable and uncalled for, terming them "baseless and irresponsible".

"Pakistan army prides itself for being an extremely professional and well-disciplined organisation with a robust and highly effective internal accountability system applicable across the board for unlawful acts, if any, committed by uniformed personnel," read a statement issued by the ISPR.

However, it added, THAT if the honour, safety and prestige of its rank and file is being tarnished by vested interests through frivolous allegations, the "institution will jealousy safeguard its officers and soldiers no matter what".

Earlier, Imran said three people — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a military official — were behind his assassination plot.

“Would you allow this military official to be probed in this case,” Imran asked COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He also asked the army chief to take action against the senior army officer to protect the dignity of the institution.

Will quit politics even if there is minor proof of my involvement: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vehemently rejected the allegation levelled against him by Imran Khan of his involvement in the attack on his long march container, saying that neither he nor the two others being blamed by the PTI chief have anything to do with it.

“I do not have the right to remain [in my position] for even one second if I or others have any role in this conspiracy,” the prime minister said.

“If there is even some minor proof against me, I will leave politics for forever.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial to form a full court commission to investigate PTI chief Imran Khan’s allegation of his involvement in the attack on his container during his long march on Thursday.

“I think this is the need that this time there should be immediate decision on the basis of justice. I request the chief justice to form a full court commission with all honorable and respectable judges for the greater interest of this country and to end this discord and chaos,” the prime minister said in a press conference in Lahore.

“I will immediately, via a letter in writing, request this and I hope this request will be supported in favour of people. And if you do not accept this request then these questions will be remain forever. This fitna and sazish will be buried only when facts come to light.”

Casting doubts on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s bullet injuries, PDM and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has said the former prime minister outshined Bollywood starts Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan in acting skills.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Sunday, Fazl while referring to the PTI chief’s allegations said that Pakistan was being pushed towards difficulties by spreading anarchy and lies under the guise of an incident.

LONDON: Overseas Pakistanis have lodged a complaint with London police against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif over the latter’s alleged involvement in attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, ARY News reported on Sunday.

According to details, the overseas Pakistanis have lodged a complaint against Nawaz Sharif over his alleged involvement in attack on Imran Khan during long march in Wazirabad.

In the complaint, the overseas Pakistanis called the PML-N supremo ‘mastermind’ behind the assassination attempt on PTI Chief. “The assassination attempt on Imran Khan was planned in London,” read the complaint.

The counsel of the petitioners said that PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah were also nominated in the complaint. “The London police have assured to action by giving the crime reference number,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan and several other PTI leaders were injured after a man opened fire near the PTI reception camp at Allahwala Chowk during party’s long march.

According to details, unidentified assailants opened fire on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s container near the Allahwala Chowk in Wazirabad, injuring six people and killing one.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan announced to resume Azadi Long March from Tuesday. He said the march will resume from Wazirabad and he will address the long march participants on daily basis from the hospital.

He said Azadi Long March will reach Rawalpindi in 10 to 15 days, where he will physically join the march. Khan invited the masses to join their protest and break the shackles of fear.

The former premier condemned the alleged objectionable video leak of party Senator Azam Swati and went on to say that the video is not fake and should be investigated.

Wazirabad incident: PM Shehbaz puts five questions for investigation before CJP

In a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan today, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has put forward five questions before the Supreme Court regarding the attack on PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Which law enforcement agencies were responsible to provide security to Imran’s convoy? Whether security protocols and other SOPs were put in place to secure the convoy and whether these protocols were adhered to?

What are the facts of the incident itself?

Whether law enforcement agencies and administrative authorities complied with the prescribed investigation, evidence collection, and handling procedures following the incident?

Whether the investigation into the incident is being deliberately impeded? If yes, by which actors and why?

Whether the shooting was a result of a criminal conspiracy hatched to assassinate Imran or the act of a lone shooter? Who are the actors responsible in either scenario?
