What's new

What is the purpose of Ravindra Jadeja?

I think in next 2 series none of haris fawad azhar abid will be thier this tour against new Zealand could end thier careers

Haris would, and should be given more chances in my opinion. We can't remove 3 middle order batsmen in the same series. I'd replace Azhar Ali, if he doesn't perform, with Saud Shakeel. I'd do the same if Fawad doesn't perform. If they both don't perform, I'd try and look for another young batsman in the current system who deserves a go.

Haris needs to improve his fitness its beyond terrible

I have always liked Jadeja as he can do everything! India always understood the importance of having a player like Jadeja in their team and always backed him, which helped Jadeja in becoming a player he is today. I would pick him just for his fielding alone, but this guy has turned out to be a brilliant allrounder as he has played some unbelieveable knocks recently. Sir Jadeja, you have my respect!

Lol no doubt. Jadeja is a world class all rounder. Match winner in tests.

Very good quality odi and T20 player. Clutch player.

Gun player Jadeja. Anyone who underrates him has no idea about the utility he brings to any team. If Shadab can achieve Jadeja level in limited overs, I will be happy.

True, Manjrekar was pretty dumb for making those remarks about him.

Jadeja in tests is a force of his own, and in limited overs, he can bowl and bat to a good extent. He can do both is what I'm trying to do, whereas the all-rounders in Pakistan can only do one fluently.

3/4 of this guy's test wickets and 2/3 of his test runs have come at home.

Lots of red ink too. He is a good player but his figures flatter to deceive.

Most Aussies are applauded for being home track bullies and England is considered a competitive Test side even though they’re really only competitive at home or at most just in SENA. Anderson is considered an ATG. Credit to India for creating a fortress, and credit to Jadeja for being vital in that process.

india dont play pak in tests, dont play bang and srilanka often. hes suited to asian conditions but apart from home tests he dont get a chance in those conditions, so his stats are bound to be heavily skewed to home matches.

Same goes for the illustrious English bowlers and Aussie bowlers buddy.
Aussies in particular are massive home bounce track bully. The rear rabada himself from saffers is a abounce track bully.

Sure he’s had a lot of not outs which boost his average however even so Jadeja’s test match batting has really improved in recent years. Over the first 20 or so test matches of his career he averaged in the low 20s. Over the next ~30 tests he’s averaged in the high 40s.

Sir Ravindra Jadeja becomes third Indian player to represent his country for 50 games or more in all three formats of the game, only behind MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Even Kapil and Gavaskar couldn’t achieve this. :) All hail Sir Jadeja. Meh Bradman couldn’t even do it in 2 formats.

He's turned it around massively IMO, just like Ishant.

A mini Steve Smith story.

Averaging nearly 50 with the bat and 25 with the ball in test cricket since last 4 years.

Top 5 Asian all-rounders of all-time:-

1. Imran Khan
2. Kapil Dev
3. Ravindra Jadeja
4. Shakib Al Hasan
5. Vinoo Mankad

'He's been in terrific form in the IPL': Monty Panesar names India's 'X-factor' in WTC final against New Zealand

Panesar is impressed with Jadeja, who has been terrific with both bat and ball, and believes the all-rounder can be the X-factor for India for a couple of reasons.

Former England spinner Monty Panesar is in favour of the ICC preparing a pitch for the World Test Championship final that is suitable for Test match cricket. India will first face New Zealand in the WTC final scheduled to take place at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from June 18, before taking on hosts England in a five-Test series in August.

Panesar reckons spinners will have a say in the outcome of the WTC final and is confident that England will prepare surfaces to their liking for the Test series, which is why it's important for the pitch in the WTC final to last the course of 4-5 days to ensure a riveting contest is played put between bat and ball and two quality teams.

"Spinners will also play a crucial role in the WTC final in Southampton. We'll have to see how the ICC prepares the pitch for the event. For the Test series, England will obviously go with a green wicket. But for the WTC final, I think the ICC should prepare a neutral wicket. It'll be the perfect advertisement for the WTC if the final spans over 4 or 5 days," Panesar told India TV.

Panesar has picked the spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to make it to the Playing XI against New Zealand. Panesar is impressed with Jadeja, who has been terrific with both bat and ball, and believes the all-rounder can be the X-factor for India for a couple of reasons.

"For me, Ravindra Jadeja will be the X-factor. He's been in terrific form in the IPL. If India decides to go with just one spinner, I'll go with Jadeja instead of R Ashwin as the spin-bowling option. Jadeja's defensive bowling skill and being a left-armer give him an upper hand," added Panesar.

His away batting and bowling average is 32 which is decent

Test cricketers to have both scored more runs and taken more wickets with better averages than Ravindra Jadeja:

Imran Khan
End of list.

Imran Khan and Ravindra Jadeja are Only 2 All Rounders in History of TEST Cricket to have both Batting Average of 35+ and Bowling Average of less than 25.

Jadeja's not outs are inflated in a same way as for Imran although Imran hit quite a few hundreds in latter part of his career.

In bowling, Jadeja obviously is a level below Ashwin because Ashwin's impact is much higher( 30 fi-fers and 400+ wickets). However, Jadeja's best days are ahead and based on my sixth sense, Jadeja will deliver an all-round performance in WTC final Vs NZ.

Jadeja though is first name of list when we play one spinner overseas

However its time to play both unless its a greentop. There we can play Jadeja alone

Also having not outs shouldn't be held against a player imo

This cannot be right!

Keith Miller?
THere must be others as well.

Jadeja is a legend.

Improved cricketers like Steve Smith/ishant Sharma make for the best stories.

Keith Miller's the only other all-rounder that has achieved this feat, out of those that have taken the double of a hundred wickets and a thousand runs in a career.

Keith Miller's bowling stats are inflated.

170 wickets in 55 tests is a Chris Cairns level performance with the bowl. Batting wise, I think he is at same level to Stokes or slightly worse.

Jadeja needs to play some memorable knocks with bat. There aren't enough that comes to my mind like I can think of for Ashwin. His 57 at Melbourne was a good start.

He's a bowler first imo

Ashwin's batting had gone down badly until Aus tour.Jadeja has been consistent if not spectacular

Unplayable by Scot batsmen at the moment. Amazing to watch him bowl.

Keith Miller 170 wickets,Jadeja 220 wickets

Miller lost several peak years to WW2. Len Hutton, who was the best opening batsman of the 1950s (and I would argue that England have not had his like since) said that Miller was even harder to face than Ray Lindwall, who held the test wicket record and is generally held to be the best fast bowler of the 1950s. Hutton thought that he had some idea where the ball was going with Lindwall - hitting it or keeping it out was another matter - but Miller was unpredictable. He didn’t even have the same run-up every ball.

Jadeja has a terrific bowling record on the Subcontinent but not in SENA where I would always pick Ashwin instead. His batting stats are also home biased and inflated artificially with lots of red ink.

Not comparable. If Keith Miller played in this era he would have 500 wickets and 6000 plus runs.

I agree with this. I think he was the most natural cricketer in history. Consider just the England side he played against - Hutton, Compton, May, Bedser, Trueman, Statham, Tyson, Lock, Laker, Wardle. All of those guys would walk into any England side past or present.

I honestly thought Fakhar ended his career after bashing him in the 2017 CT Final, but glad to see India is still sticking with this mediocre cricketer lmao.

Jadeja averages 44 with bat and 22 with ball in Australia. Has also done well in WI. Played very less in SA and NZ. Only struggled in England

Ravindra Jadeja etched his name on the history books by slamming a career-best unbeaten knock of 175 on Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali. Jadeja on Saturday broke Kapil Dev's long-standing record for the highest score by an Indian coming to bat at No.7 or below in Test cricket. Kapil held the record for 35 years. He had amassed 163 against Sri Lanka in Kanpur way back in December, 1986 while batting at No.7. Jadeja went past that score on Saturday in an innings that was stamped with class and authority.

Jadeja also became only the third Indian to register a score in excess of 150 while batting at No.7 or below in Test cricket. Apart from Jadeja and Kapil, Rishabh Pant is the other to play a 150-plus knock batting at that number. The India wicketkeeper-batter had scored an unbeaten 159 against Australia in Sydney in 2019.

For the record, the great MS Dhoni's highest Test score while batting at No.7 is 144. He had achieved that against South Africa in 2011.

Coming back to Jadeja's knock, the left-hander registered three century stands – first with Pant, then with Ashwin and finally with Mohammed Shami to take India to a mammoth first innings total of 574 for 8.

Jadeja was unbeaten on 175 and Shami was batting on 20 when captain Rohit Sharma decided to declare the Indian innings.

Jadeja hit three sixes and as many as 17 fours in his flawless innings in which he scored at a brilliant strike rate of 76.75.

He was happy to play second fiddle on Day 1 when Pant at the other end was going ballistic. On Day 2, resuming at 45, he once again took his time to build another solid stand with Ashwin (61). But once he reached three figures, there was no stopping Jadeja.

The attacking left-hander ended up scoring more than 80% of the runs in the 103-run partnership between him and Shami.

He is going to be a vital asset in upcoming t20 and odi wc

He is perhaps the most consistent indian batter last two years .

Now along with kapil and Yuvraj , he is the third on the all time great allrounders from india ( I feel in Tests he has won us more matches then many others and now his odi and t20 batting contributions are gonna change team compositions .)

Yujraj was good ODI only there too he was mostly played proper batsman and part time bowler barring few exceptions like WC 2011.

1. Kapil
2. Jadeja
3. Ashwin

Ravindra Jadeja’s performance at India's recent Test win against Sri Lanka in Mohali has catapulted him to the no. 1 position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Player Rankings. His unbeaten 175 lifted him up to 17 places from 54th to 37th with the bat and he added nine wickets to move up to 17th with the ball.

Seems to have run away from captaincy for CSK- not impressed at all

Seems to have run away from captaincy for CSK- not impressed at all

Some people are not cut out to be leaders. Good off him to have identified it early. I would have liked him to finish the tournament before resigning as captain.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday relinquished the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings and now, MS Dhoni will lead the side once again in the remaining matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. An official statement of CSK stated that Jadeja wants to focus on his own game and in the larger interest, Dhoni has agreed to lead the side. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that he feels for Jadeja and hopes that all this does not affect him in a negative way.

Taking to Twitter, Pathan said: "I really Feel for Ravindra Jadeja. Let's hope it doesn't effect (sic) him as a cricketer in a negative way."

On Saturday, Chennai Super Kings made the announcement that Jadeja had stepped down as the captain and Dhoni would be leading the franchise this season.

"Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game," read an official statement from CSK.

Before the start of this season, Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Jadeja. However, the side now find themselves at the ninth spot in the IPL points table and they face an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs.

In eight matches this season, Jadeja has managed to score just 112 runs and with the ball in hand, he has taken five wickets.

On the other hand, Dhoni has shown good form with the bat and even helped CSK come from behind to defeat Mumbai Indians. In that game, Dhoni smashed 16 runs off the final four balls to take the defending champions over the line.

Things gone bad to worse for Jadeja:

Injured Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of IPL 2022
The all-rounder suffered an injury in the game against RCB and has subsequently left the bio bubble

==

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was on Wednesday ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2022 due to a rib injury that he had picked up in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the development to NDTV. "Yes he is ruled out, he has a bruised rib. He is out of the IPL," Viswanathan said.

"Ravindra Jadeja reported a bruised rib and was unavailable for Chennai Super Kings' game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. He was under observation and based on medical advice he has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season," an official CSK release stated.

Jadeja had a rather underwhelming season as he was handed the captaincy of the franchise before the start of the tournament as MS Dhoni decided to take a backseat. But CSK got off to a poor start in the tournament and Jadeja own form with both bat and ball suffered.

As a result of this Jadeja handed back the captaincy to Dhoni to concentrate on his own game before picking up the injury which has now ruled him out of the tournament.

CSK, the defending champions, are all but out of contention for a place in the playoffs.

In case they do fail to finish in the top 4, this will be only the second time that CSK would have not reached the playoff stage of the tournament.

Jadeja reaches a brilliant century in the rescheduled 5th Test vs England - his first outside of India.

Jadeja has 3 test hundreds now. A highest score of 175 and a hundred away from home in England.

Keft-handed batter Ravindra Jadeja was at his best in the first innings of the ongoing Edgbaston Test against England as he played a 104-run knock to help India post 416 runs on the board. India were struggling at 98/5 and it was then that Jadeja along with Rishabh Pant put on 222 runs for the sixth wicket. Speaking to reporters after stumps on Day 2, Jadeja talked about his mindset during the innings and also reacted to James Anderson's comment where the England pacer had said that Jadeja thinks like a proper batter now.

While speaking to reporters after stumps on Day 2 at a press conference, Anderson had said: "In the past he was coming at 8, bat with the tail so he had to chance his arm a little bit, whereas now at 7 he can bat like a proper batter. He leaves really well and made it difficult for us."

When Jadeja was asked about his comment at a press conference on Saturday, he said: "See, when you score runs, everyone says they think of themselves as a proper batter. But I've always tried to give myself time at the crease, to set a partnership with whoever is at the crease, to play with him. It's nice Anderson has realised that after 2014."

It is important to note that during the 2014 Trent Bridge Test, Jadeja and Anderson had an altercation inside the pavilion and then a complaint was made against Anderson by the Indian management. As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, the Indian camp claimed that Anderson had shoved Jadeja without any altercation and eventually a Level 3 charge was imposed on the England pacer by ICC.

Further talking about his knock in the ongoing Test, Jadeja said: "In England you have play close to the body. The ball swings here so if you look to play the cover- or square-drive there is a chance you can edge to the cordon. My focus was to initially not play at too many balls outside off-stump. When the cover or point is vacant there is a temptation to hit the ball through that area for a boundary, but then you can get out in the slips. My thought was only to hit the ball that was really close to me and to hit it straight. Luckily, all the balls that I picked were in my areas and converted them into boundaries. If you know where your off-stump is, then you can leave the balls outside that line."

When asked about Pant's knock, Jadeja said: "A little pressure goes off because he's hitting every bowler in the same way. He wasn't leaving anyone alone. At the non-striker's end, it feels good because they then don't focus too much on me. But as a batsman you still have to come to England and concentrate and focus because it is never easy here. You're playing on 50 or 70 and you can get a good ball anytime. Me and Rishabh were talking about this, that we just try and put on a long partnership. When I came to bat, we had to take the team to a good position and really had to put some effort in. Hopefully we've put a good total on the board."

At stumps on Day 2, England's score read 84/5 and they are still trailing by 332 runs with Jonny Bairstow (12*) and Ben Stokes (0*) at the crease. India had earlier posted 416 after centuries from Pant and Jadeja, Anderson had taken five wickets for England.

You can tell he's worked very hard on his batting and tightened up his technique.

Bowlers fancied their chances against him but now he's a tougher opponent when batting.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja has removed all posts related to the team's 2021 and 2022 seasons from his official Instagram account in an indication that all is not well between the all-rounder and the IPL franchise. Jadeja was named the captain of the CSK earlier this year after MS Dhoni relinquished his captaincy ahead of the IPL 2022 season. However, the all-rounder stepped down halfway through the 2022 season as the captaincy was impacting his individual performance.

MS Dhoni took back charge of the team and Jadeja was later ruled out of the IPL with a rib injury, before returning on the England tour. Slightly over two months ago, the all-rounder ended a forgettable IPL season with the Chennai franchise.

On social media, fans were quick to notice that Jadeja had removed from his Instagram profile, pictures linked to the IPL 2021 and 2022 campaigns of the CSK.

"Jadeja didn't wish Dhoni on his birthday this year. (He does it every year). He has also deleted all his CSK-related posts on Instagram. Something is definitely not right," wrote a fan.

"Ravindra Jadeja will leave CSK maybe for the 2023 season. Deleted almost every post related to CSK. Also listened about Deepak Chahar and Ambati Rayudu but not confirmed for these two. Hard day for CSK fan to accept," tweeted another user.

Despite having a bad 2022 IPL season, Jadeja was brilliant in his comeback match against England.

He smashed a brilliant ton at Edgbaston in the rescheduled fifth Test against England which was played between July 1 and July 5.

Jadeja has no purpose in T20s. Bats too low to make an impact and bowling is also average.

Absolutely key for India's success in 2nd ODI - can he deliver?

If by any chance, this also results in him not being available for home test series vs Australia too, then that is a massive blow.

In T20s, Axar or Hooda can fill the void easily.

Senior India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is all set to miss the T20 World Cup in Australia as he will undergo a major knee surgery which is expected to keep him out of action for an indefinite period of time. Jadeja, who played the first two games of the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Hong Kong, gives the team the requisite balance with his all-round abilities and the 33-year-old veteran's absence will be a big blow to Rohit Sharma's side.

"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

It couldn't be immediately confirmed if it's a case of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), recovery from which can take a good six months.

But it can be said with some certainty that Jadeja will be out of action for at least three months.

It is understood that Jadeja's knee issue has been there for a long time, and a close look at last one year would suggest that he is converting himself more into a batting all-rounder across formats, with his left-arm spin turning into a secondary skill from the primary one.

It is believed that the pounding that his right knee takes while landing of his front foot while bowling has had its impact.

In his senior career (domestic and international), which also includes domestic first-class, List A and IPL games, Jadeja has bowled over 7000 overs in nearly 630 games across formats, for 897 scalps.

Add to it the overs bowled in the nets and the 13,000 runs scored at the senior level (domestic and international), and it gets worse.

It will take a considerable amount of time and a thorough rehabilitation programme before he can make a comeback to international cricket.

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said he does not want to "jump to any conclusions" on Ravindra Jadeja missing the 2022 T20 World Cup shortly after it was reported that the star all-rounder was to undergo a knee surgery that would rule him out of the marquee tournament. Jadeja on Friday was ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE with a knee injury. On Saturday, news agency PTI quoted a source in the BCCI as saying that Jadeja is set to undergo knee surgery, which would keep him on the sidelines for an "indefinite" period.

Dravid, speaking at a press conference ahead of India's Super-4 stage match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, said that while Jadeja is injured, he did not want to rule him out of the T20 World Cup, which begins in October in Australia.

"Jadeja, he has injured his knee. Obviously he is ruled out for the Asia Cup. He's under the care of the medical team, he has gone to see the doctors, he has gone to see the experts," Dravid said.

"The World Cup is a fair way away, so we don't want to jump to any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We'll see how it goes," he went on to say.

"It's part of sports. People get injured. It's part of our job to try and manage them, manage how it goes," he added.

"A lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We'll see how it goes," Dravid said.

"I don't want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Specially the World Cup is 6-7 weeks away now," the India head coach concluded.

Jadeja played both matches for India in the Asia Cup so far, and was especially key in their tense chase against Pakistan in the group stage encounter last week.

I agree. In T20s he isn't much of a loss.

BCCI officials are fuming over how Ravindra Jadeja's injury could've been avoided. He slipped from the ski-board and as a result twisted his knee badly. (Reported by TOI).

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja's knee injury has disturbed the team combination and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not happy about it. "We are not happy with Jadeja's injury. He should have kept the World Cup in mind while doing adventurous activities. But he was not responsible and did not think that the World Cup is on the way. We are not happy with this action of Jadeja," a source told ANI.

Jadeja had injured his right knee and was ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 after playing the first two games of the event against Pakistan and Hong Kong.

On Tuesday, Jadeja underwent a knee surgery and the all-rounder will start his rehabilitation soon. Jadeja took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that his surgery was successful.

"The surgery was successful. There are many people to thank for their support and involvement - BCCI, my teammates, support staff, physios, doctors and the fans. I will start my rehab soon and try to get back to soon as I can. Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes," said Jadeja in a post.

Jadeja was having a solid Asia Cup 2022 till he got injured. In the first match against Pakistan, he played a match-winning knock of 35 and registered figures of 0/11 in two overs. In the next match against Hong Kong, he did not bat but took 1/15 with the ball and fielded really well.

The star all-rounder has played very well so far this year. In nine T20Is this year, Jadeja has scored 201 runs in eight innings at an average of 50.25. His best individual score is 46* this year in the format. Besides this, he has taken five wickets, with best figures of 1/15.

In three Tests this year, he has scored 328 runs in five innings at an average of 82.00. He has smashed two centuries in the longer format of the sport this year. His best score is 175* which he scored against Sri Lanka earlier this year. He has also taken 10 wickets in this format with best figures of 5/41.

In three ODIs this year, he has scored 36 runs in two innings at an average of 36.00. His best score in format this year is 29. He has also taken a wicket in the format this year.

shock horror as dude who likes to play with swords and ride horses bareback found to have injured his knee doing adventurous stuff.

he's the player he is because he doesn't overthink or stress about things, the kinda person who would be thinking of a world cup whilst deciding on whether to do play with a ski board would not end up being a cricketer like jadeja.
