I came up with this very simple question while going through scorecards of the 2015 WC. Is this the worst lineup Pakistan has ever fielded in ODI cricket in the last decade?

Nasir Jamshed
Shehzad
Younis Khan
Haris Sohail
Misbah
Sohaib Maqsood
Umar Akmal
Shahid Afridi
Wahab Riaz
Sohail Khan
Mohammad Irfan.

We basically we went into a WC game with 1 player (Haris Sohail) and ten absolute duds. I would like to know if anyone remembers any game from the past 10 years which might've fielded a more nightmarish XI than the above. Also, the only guy who can be considered to hold his own in this lineup cannot make the ODI team right now, we have well and truly come a long way!

Discuss.

Waqar's second coaching era was the worst era of Pakistan's cricket since independence.

At least with Azhar, you could say that he was shoehorned in due to senior peer pressure and no reliable choice at the moment. The Team in the OP was hand picked and backed by a team management which had been in power for nearly 6 years at the time.

The 2013 CT lineup was even worse
Nasir Jamshed
Imran Farhat
Mohammad Hafeez
Asad Shafiq
Misbah
Shoaib Malik
Umar Amin
Kamran Akmal
Saeed Ajmal
Wahab Riaz
Ifran

The worst ODI side I've seen has to be CT 2013 (since I started watching the game in 2000) when Misbah decided to pick the likes of Farhat and a raw Umar Amin.

He also dropped Afridi and Umar Akmal. The latter at the time was best LOI bat at the time in ICC tournaments up until 2014 T20 before he started to regress. Afridi was the only hitter around back then and his bowling was needed evident from his 2011 WC performance where he was the top wicket taker.

If I'm not mistaken this was not only the first time Pakistan failed to reach the knockouts of a LOI competition in England but they somehow managed to lose every single game.

Waqar and Misbah were both to blame for going in to the tournament with an ultra defensive mindset particularly from a batting perspective. Refreshing to see 5 years on Pakistan's cricket philosophy has moved on from such an outdated brand of cricket.

The Zimbabwe ODI in 2015 that we lost.

We had a top four of Azhar Ali, Bilal Asif, Mohammad Hafeez and Asad Shafiq. With that lineup its not surprising we were tottering at 76-6 in that run chase.

Malik almost pulled it off had it not been for the unsportsmanlike conduct of certain Zimbabwe players who were so very eager to go off!

I believe we lost that game by only 5/6 runs via DL method.

The chase shouldn't have ran that close to begin with - however with a top four like that you're asking for trouble.

The team for the 2013 Champions Trophy. The worst Pakistan squad I have seen in my time as a cricket fan.

What about selectors? Not all blame should be given to Misbah. He was one captain who didn't want any authority and only asked for opinions on selections when asked. It might not be a good characteristic in hindsight, but having seen so many fallouts and power struggles before, it was the only way to bring some stability to that team. He was a guy who considered his job to do the best with what he was given, that might not be a good thing in hind sight as i said, but that's how he was. Iqbal Qasim was the chief selector,( and to mess with such strong personalities with strong connections is probably not the right thing) and he has been, along with Amir Sohail, Haroon Rasheed and Wasim Bari to be the worst selectors ever for Pakistan.

That's why Inzi is probably the best selector we have had. He has his flaws, but he is a big upgrade over the trash we have had in the past.

Don't think so. Between 2011-2014 your LOI teams were actually worse with the decline of Gul's and Afridi's bowling. The only reason you stayed somewhat competitive was the control exerted by the chucking of ajmal and hafeez.

The eleven with Misbah and Younis in it , was the worst. The most negative ODI players ever played for Pakistan.

I dont remember which match it was but Pakistan had Farhat, younis, misbah, Shafiq, afridi, hafeez, abdul rehman in one team.

You cant beat this one.
