What lead will be enough for Pakistan to defend in 4th innings of the 1st Test versus West Indies?

Anything above 200 should be good - anything below will make West Indies favourites to win.

pitch is still grassy, wont break apart and yasir isnt in great form. need at least 250 to be ahead, 225 would be even stevens.

220 at least. The pitch is not hard to bat on.

Both teams have batted really poorly.

200+ puts us in the game, 250 puts us in the driving seat.

Anything under 250 and even one good partnership can win Windies this Test match, a la Woakes and Buttler last summer in Manchester. But I just don’t see how we’re gonna get a lead over 250 when 3 of the 5 batsmen to come can’t hold a bat to save their lives.

200+

Anything less than 200 and our bowlers would not be in a good mental state to defend it. Frankly with Yasir consistently leaking runs even 200 might not be easy to defend.

Pakistan are very behind in this game, but 200 would at least give a fighting chance, a competitive total to defend, even though we would probably lose.

200 looks very far away right now.

With Babar and Faheem at the crease overnight, a lead of 200 is very much possible, providing there's a tail cameo or 2.

Nothing over 200 has been chased in the last 10 years on this ground apparently

We have the same problem at the other end which is the main issue. Can't believe we're chasing the game against such a mediocre side. What's happened to Pakistan's test pedigree?

To be fair, they have some decent bowlers. Yes, we haven’t batted well and our top order is beyond pathetic, but let’s also give some credit to the opposition. Roach is very good in his home conditions, Seales looks like a solid prospect and Holder is one of the best all rounders in Test cricket at the moment. Gotta give credit where it’s due.

Anything above 200 looks nice but realistically we could well be stuck with 180!

Both the batsmen need to take this innings deep. I am hoping for a Babers century here. The staying at the crease and not playing any wild shots formula has worked for both teams.

Pakistan can add another 100 runs comfortably without taking much risk here. It is all about temperament and both Baber and Fahim are showing it very well.

Kemar Roach speaking at end of Day 3 - West Indies point of view

On a pitch that's pretty tough I think we are in a good position, five wickets away from bowling them out and tomorrow first hour will be very crucial to restrict them around 170-200 maybe.

124 at the moment.

I'd like another 100 runs.

with the new ball due in 10, they need to get 40 runs ideally without losing a wicket...that takes the lead to 164....and then hopefully will give some confidence against the new ball so we can get past 200

270+.

It's not impossible.

Babar and Faheem will need to dig in deep.

It's about playing the first session today without giving any wickets.

Faheem will play his shots, but Babar needs to make sure that he stays there till the end and gets a good hundred in a tricky situation.

Wish all at PP a happy belated azadi diwas

Two intresting competitive test matches in the offing on two threads

The pitch looks dramatically easy to bat on this morning. 220 is the absolute minimum needed here.
