What's the issue ?

He seems to have all the skills but does not feature in Pak ODI side.

Is this a technical or mental issue?

He needs the right captain who can force him to stick to a plan and persist. Otherwise he gets too impatient and tries too many things, releasing pressure on the batsman (he's been guilty of doing this in Tests too - esp. in Australia). Yasir was most potent under Misbah in Tests but Misbah wasn't the best LOI skipper and therefore did not utilise Yasir well. I think Azhar had a go captaining Yasir for a bit in ODIs but was generally clueless.

In a perfect world Yasir would have always had Shane Warne in his ear but alas...

I remember when Stokes thought Yasir was the greatest legspinner since Warne.

We always have a name and say that he would have been much better etc etc. But in reality, Yasir was never an ODI bowler, good for tests but not ODIs.

Yasir Shah did not have a googly. His legspin itself was great, but you cant survive in ODI's with only legspin, you need varieties. The reason why someone like Shadab has survived this long is due to his varieties.

Yasir Shah also takes time to get his line and length correct. His first over is the worst over because he throws in full tosses.

In test he was a great. He took wickets in England. He developed fitness issues as he grew older. If you guys remember the younger days of Yasir Shah, he was an athlete on the field. He would make dives and all. His age is fake, thus he grew older, abit fat, and wasnt able to deliver the require fitness.

Misbah overused him in Tests and overran his mileage. It’s upsetting that his career got cut short.

He is nearing 38, chapter closed
45 in real ages

But if you are going to give me Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali, i would still prefer Yasir as the guy is better than those two half fit.

Funfact:
His family was involved in the Abbotabad cricket system, so he was initially a sifarish pick in grade 2 / first class. But he proved his worth later on.

Do you have any proof for this statement of yours?

I dont have proof to share here, but i played club with a few domestic cricketers that existed from 2000s. Initially Yasir wasn't that great in cricket but was getting to play through a relative that had power in abbotabad cricket.

But later on, Yasir Shah did prove his worth.
