What Was The Greatest Cartoon Ever?

It most probably has to be Tom and Jerry. Alongside that maybe SpongeBob SquarePants. With that there's probably a host of other names that I can consider, though I didn't watch a lot of them so i'm not naming it as one of the "greatest cartoons of all time".

The ones I never missed -
Dragon ball
Swat Cats
Chip and Dale
Jonny Quest
Gummy Bears
Justice League

As a child, my favourite cartoons were Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and The Pink Panther, for the very humourous content of the shows and the affable and likeable characters which featured in these cartoons.

Loony Tunes was hilarious, especially with the battles between 'Sylvester' and 'Tweety' (the yellow bird whom Sylvester was always wanting to eat), 'Wild E Coyote' and 'The Road Runner', Bugs Bunny and 'Elmer Fudd' and many more (such as 'Daffy Duck', 'Marvin the Martian' and 'Tasmanian Devil'.

Similarly, Tom and Jerry never failed to produce laughter, with the constant and inevitable revenge-filled search by Tom to seek Jerry out of the safe comfort of his home and beat him up, almost always with harm falling upon Tom through Jerry's wily nature. Even if no words were spoken, this show was genuinely funny.

Finally, we reach The Pink Panther - not mentioned by many before me, but nevertheless a classic! The master of the 'silent cartoons', especially with the clumsy nature of the protagonist.

The Simpsons. And quite easily too.
Particularly the first 8-9 seasons or so: the so called Golden Age.

But if shows like this and also the great South Park might be too adult to be considered...
I liked Pokemon. The original Indigo League series is still superb today. Some great storylines, innuendos, and dark Japanese humour. Misty is also a hilarious character, acted to perfection.

Wacky Races in terms of older stuff.

Although it technically is, I never perceive it to be a cartoon. Cartoons are stereotypically aimed towards young children whereas it is evident that The Simpsons isn't, because of its deeper humour and the fact that it has a sort of storyline and purpose attached to each episode.

Tom and Jerry all the way. What do you guys think of Pink Panther?

Refer to my above post, PK bro. The Pink Panther was magnificent!

By the way, for any of those wondering who this illustrious 'Pink Panther' is, according to Wikipedia he is called 'Nathu' in East Asia and 'Pangu' in South Asia.

Big fan of Swat Cats , Thunder Cats , Looney Toons , Wackey Racies and all those oldies on Cartoon Network , Super/Bat-men etc . Justice League , Spongebob/Invade Zim and countless more :P .

If I had to choose , it'd be the Looney Toons . They never ceased to make me laugh and enjoy , still today I watch them with as much anticipation as back then .

P.s I'd list DBZ/Poke-Digimon etc. but I see them as Anime .

Loved watching looney tunes, tom and jerry, wacky races and the occasional popeye, now thevwworld is alot more serious.

Forgot to include: Wacky Races and Pinky and the Brain. Two wonderful cartoons they were!

Anybody else ever seen the latter?

@SOPL:-I couldn't read all posts because they were just too many about the same thing. So,I thought probably I should bring a little change and so,mistakenly, ignored your comment. Cheers.

Simpsons was a trendsetter with its heavy use of innuendos and robbed cartoons of their innocence forever. From old school collections , it's hard to see past Yogi Bear.

Old school: Wacky Races / Stpp the Pigeon. “Ohhhhhh, it’s yooooou, General!”

1990s: Simpsons

2000s: Family Guy

2010s: Rick and Morty

The Simpsons, but Freakazoid is a personal favorite of mine.

Few other mentions : Dexter's Laboratory, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Animaniacs, Johnny Bravo, Pinky and the Brain, Batman and more recently Rick and Morty.

(I don't count Japanimes as cartoons)

Tom & Jerry was favorite of everyone during my time.
Other cartoons I thoroughly enjoyed. during my boyhood in no particular order :

Looney tunes

Jungle book shonen mowgli (best jungle book ever made IMO)

Pokemon
Bayblade

Kochikame
Sinchan
Tensai bokamon

Doremon
Kitretsu

Swat cats
Cowboys of moo messa

Ben 10 (all seasons- loved how it evolved from alien swarm to ultimate aliens for mature audiences)

Courage- the cowardly dog ( amazing horror themed cartoon sometimes it was so weird yet entertaining)

Greatest Cartoon of All Time?

Ive been debating this with friends and work mates.

Tom and Jerry?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Flintstones

Scooby-Doo

Its really to choose one but I'd go for Tom and Jerry. Can be watched by all the family, funny, well written, great characters.

Your choice please?

Yeh, good to see Thunder Cats mentioned, even if old post, but it was awesome!

I loved all of those in your post although Flintstones to a lesser extent.

If I had to go with one it would be Batman The Animated series, beside it being a pioneering animated show it was very well written, dark, gritty and arguably the best comic book adaptation of the character.

Also liked these:

Spider-Man animated series (1992)
X-Men from the early 90’s
Tom & Jerry
Simpsons
Wacky Races
Scooby Doo
Justice League
Spectacular Spiderman very good adaptation

From this era:

Young Justice
Castlevania - You’d like this, has an interesting muslim lead in it as well and it’s incredible really the animation / action sequences are breathtaking

Maybe I will add Arcane (Netflix) to the list to once am done with it

Bojack Horseman is now my favourite animated show. A satire on Hollywood, and examination of addiction and mental illness. Having said all that it is extremely funny too.

Honourable mention to 1987 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. April is a good set of human eyes for us into the surreal underground universe, the animation and characters are legendary, and the cast is great! (Cam Clarke, Rob Paulsen, James Avery aka Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince of Bel Air as Shredder)

Tom and jerry was a classic you could watch any time , but all the looney toons cartoons were. Simpsons probably gets my vote tho i can watch it even to this day.

Honorable mentions :

Recess
Hey Arnold
Pokemon season 1
Arthur
Top Cat

My Choices

1. Pink Panther - All time favorite
2. Tom & Jerry ( Mainly because of Tom who IMO is the main attraction of the cartoon. Jerry is a bit boring)
3. Bugs Bunny

As a kid I liked Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo the best of the short format, but the Disney full length cartoons were different class. Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, and obviously more recently the Toy Story films have been outstanding.

As and adult, the Simpsons is out on it's own.

1. Dexter's Laboratory
2. The Flintstones
3. Swat Kats (What a plane!)
4. Scooby Doo
5. Tom & Jerry
6. Popeye
7. Powerpuff Girls
8. Johnny Bravo
9. Snoopy & Droopy
10. Jetsons
11. Courage the Cowardly Dog (LOL)
12. Captain Planet

Tom & Jerry without a shadow of doubt.

I also quite liked Pink Panther, Woodywood Pecker & Dexter’s Lab.

Looking back at the decades, I think one of the most creative cartoons show was "The Pink Panther".
The challenge was that there were no verbal dialogue, script or textual captions, yet the production team kept the fans captivated for years. It was absolutely awesome!

Personally, I wasn't an ardent fan of Tom n Jerry.

Heckle and Jeckle was my favorite.
