What's new

What was the last thing you ate?

Oh man, where to start. Can't even really believe that that was me at a time. I was around 18-19 at the time and was going through my rebellious phase after taking a gap year switching from medicine to IT. I grew up in Mankhool with with the locals who didn't have much to do since the government paid for everything and when work was needed they just flunked out of school after the 6th grade and joined the army for a 7000 AED job (around 2000 dollars US) which was huge at the time without having need of any qualifications. Also the UAE had no conflict with anyone so basically it was paid vacation.

We had many rival gangs from Bur Dubai, Hamriya, Hor al Anz etc but the worst was from Satwa (the place behind Burj Al Arab) which consisted of Iranians (FOB or otherwise) who didn't have much to do all day since they weren't given passports or actual official recognition and were invalid to work or earn a living. The guys were ruthless and we had many a "fight" with swords, knives and what not. There was many a case with guys being lured and stabbed minimum 30-40 times for paltry reasons (now that I think of it) but I digress.

By the time I was 18, I had made quite a rep for myself and was somewhat accepted as an untouchable by mere mortals at the time. So I was at the Karama Park (opposite Lulu centre) with a girl I was dating for the first time. She was really into me and I was just sitting there taking in the praises and how great I was when suddenly a football hit her. There were some 15 year olds playing and of them came to claim the ball rather rudely. She looked at me as if to say "How can you let me be disrespected like that?".

I was still really high from the adulation and I asked him to apologize to her, to which he gave a really unsavory reply (because he didn't know me and my street rep) in front of the cow worshiping me and I slapped him really hard (there was an actual echo) for his insubordination. They all dispersed after that and I went on but the girl called her best friend and told her of the situation, who was the gf of my best friend and somewhat the leader of the group just in case things might escalate (was really grateful later for girls gossiping in this specific instance).

All I remember is her screaming "look out" and suddenly I am bombarded by punches and kicks from around 13 guys, I tried to fight back as much as I could but went into the embryo position of protecting the head and midriff area in case of an ambush. So there I was getting the crap beat out of me when from my horizontal position I see my "homies" running out from the car to my rescue. The guys dispersed just as fast again but we did manage to get a hold of a couple of them whom I paid back in full.

I told my posse to go and wait for me at my best friends house (as I was full of adrenaline and feeling extra heroic at the time), put the girl on the bus and walked back towards home to clean myself up and recover a bit. I still remember the shrieking from the many females outside (and there were always at least 20-30) Lulu center shocked at my blood stained face and clothes.

I sat on the cement couch outside our main door to recollect my senses and then went in. I barely reached my bedroom when I was out of adrenaline and fainted. Next thing I remember was my brother taking me to emergency and me claiming to have fallen down the stairs to avoid further problems with the police.

The worst part of all of this was that I lost my favorite pair of shoes during the whole ordeal.

Woahhhh
:salute

Last night sweet and sour chicken, was a whole chicken (obviously didn't eat it all) as well as begun gosht.

Had it with roti, vegetables etc

had chicken fajitas last night. Simple to make, serve it on a wrap with salad, cheese, sauces etc and Bob's your uncle:)

Chicken kabab and naan for dinner. Apple-banana milkshake for breakfast. Bagel and yogurt for afternoon snack. Roti with keema mutter for evening.

Y'all who care about yourselves need to be eating more vegetables. Having a balanced diet is essential. I don't eat for the sake of tastiness.

Yeah I eat vegetables at almost every meal but don't bother putting it on here cos it's pretty boring now.

Right now just had my pre workout meal, brown rice, vegetables (happy? :P), kidney beans, chicken and some yogurt on the side

I'm normally very healthy but have eaten a lot of junk recently. Had some chicken pastry yesterday, nutella croissant, pizza and takeaway - was turkish so was like chicken shish etc, rice, flatbreads etc

Today went somewhere had some curries, samosas, kheer, halwa, meethi tikki.

Went into a lunch and learn expecting Pizza... I was thinking about it ever since I got into work this morning since they usually have pizzas at these lame lunch and learns..... to my shock and horror they had Subway sandwichs.... I had this face throughout the L&L ---> :danish

Subway's sandwiches aren't that bad though?

Cooking is one of my passions. Made some mamaliga (polenta) with lamb pastrami and spring potatoes (with dill) today as I thought I would pamper myself and my Romanian guests on my b'day. Made some Korma for some German friends during the weekend as they love Pakistani food.

Post pictures of foods that you have made

Since I started college back in the day, I had to fend for myself and cook, instead of it being a chore I pleasantly found out that it could be really therapeutic after a stressful day. Today I made some Turkey schnitzel, Potato puree and Mushroom cream sauce. Any other closet chefs in the house?

Looks really good , you have good cooking skills.

Keema naan. could barely finish as had two cheese & onion pasties for lunch quite late on.

Just had a protein shake. 2 scoops of protein powder, 2 scoops of peanut butter, 10 almonds, a scoop of oatmeal, ice, and milk. Tastes like bomb.

Yesterday was at my friends accomodation to work on our coursework. For breakfast he was having spaghetti, tuna, seasonings with cheeese, olive oil etc (typical student meal = pasta, any time of the day :P) he couldn't finish it so I had some

I've always been curious: when you add oatmeal to a shake, is it dry oatmeal, or is it cooked, or at least soaked overnight?

Keema noodles with enormous amounts of hot sauce on it. :junaid Washed it all down with a jumbo class of lassi.

Gonna go out and play some cricket now.

Life's good.

I have been drinking a lot of lassi lately. Like 1 litre a day or maybe even more. Just had 2 glasses now.

Burger King Whopper and chicken fries, Bugles with salsa, lamb kebab with naan, strawberry ice cream slush and a chocolate brownie blizzard from Dairy Queen.

Why? I don't know.

I hate getting sore throats and when i get one I will try eat to numb the soreness and itchiness in the throat.

Last few days.

Chicken Qorma
Nihari
Chicken Biryani
Haleem
Reshmi Kabab Rolls
Chicken and Cheese Rolls
Chicken Garlic Mayo Rolls
Behari Kabab Rolls
Seekh Kababs

So so unhealthy but so good :inzi :sarf2

This is just temporary though. Just getting used to being back.

What did you eat before?

Home cooked stuff which is always better. Whenever you eat out here, you're guaranteed to be consuming a ton of oil in desi food.

Usually some mixture of chicken, vegetables, lentils etc.

Rotis, parathas and rice are a big no-no.

Obviously, it depends upon how they're cooked but you need rice if you're trying to gain weight. Brown rice is the healthier option.

Looks great. What are the side dishes though, I suppose one of them is Raita, the other is fried chicken or potatoes? Third also seems liike some kind of bhurta.

Yeah that's fried boneless chicken, raita and chammanthi (the green one).

Chammanthi is made of coconut, green chilli, a small piece of ginger, few curryleaves, vinegar and salt. Put it in a grinder and a few spins, it's ready.:)

Chammanthi sounds delicious.

So asparagus season.

Made some asparagus wrapped in Serrano schinken, with roasted chicken breast covered in Beschamel sauce.

Spring potatoes boiled and tossed with butter, garlic and parsley.

Nice. Asparagus is pretty good....apparently an aphrodisiac
