As 2019 draws to a close, its time to look back at the period starting 2010 and see what events were the most significant ones to effect Pakistan cricket.

A few painful ones to choose from and some that brought us joy too.

So vote! (this is multi-choice poll)

To me the toughest one was the Spot Fixing one!

Thrashing of England in 2012 was best moment. Followed by CT 2017

Return of test cricket to Pakistan is also contender

1) CT 2017 Win as you defeated the rivals India in final
2) England away series draw 2-2(2016)
3) NZ away series win 2011
4) SL away series win 2015
5) 2012 ODI series win vs India

This is hard and I won't pick just yet...having said that, it is remarkable that Pakistan can have such highs as Test No. 1, T20 No.1, a CT win (via thrashing India), a pretty good series of World Cups, 14 test series unbeaten under Misbah, the fastest chase in 4th innings of a test, the arrival of Shadab, Shaheen, Hasan, Babar and co....yet still suffer such ignominious lows.

However, the decade seems to be ending on a positive note and if Pakistan can end in the WTC in the top 4 or 5 this would have been a big step in the right direction.

CT 17 win was a big event - a few would say that it gave us a false sense of superiority?

I think the Sri Lanka visit to Pakistan could have opened doors for more tours so very important and significant.

- Champions Trophy 2017
- Number 1 Test ranking
- England whitewash 2012
- Australia whitewash 2014
- ODI series wins in India and South Africa
- 2-2 in England in 2016
- Sharjah run chase against Sri Lanka

My personal favorite was the 2018 Asia Cup humiliation.

Pretty much covered it all.

That 2010 spot fixing saga was more significant (In negative sense) than one can imagine, probably the worst event in Pak cricket history alongside the 2009 attack on Srl team.

Aane do series is overrated. Surprised there is no mention of Pakistan 's first bilateral ODI series win over SA or first test series win in Windies.

Haha people have actually voted for the T20 ranking.

#1 Test ranking and the historic 4th innings chases were absolutely brilliant. CT win was also a big source of happiness.

Aane Do another great win.

Spot fixing was the worst and 2017 Champions Trophy was the best moment of this decade for me.

it can't be anything other than the 2017 CT victory!

The spot-fixing saga is something that I will never forget.

It was horrible, heart-breaking and at the same time infuriating. I thought that would be the end of me and Pakistan cricket. Sitting there in Southwark Crown Court seeing Butt, Asif and Amir and listening to the evidence and then the 3 of them being sent down and seeing them being driven off in prison vans.

It was a watershed moment in Pakistan cricket, a lesson for the PCB, which unfortunately wasn't treated with the seriousness it should have been.

Horrible, dark days.

Greatest moments of the decade :

1) ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
2) Ranked 1st in ICC Test Rankings in 2016.
3) World Cup run in 2011 after the Spot Fixing scandal.
4) ODI series victory against India in India.
5) England whitewash in the UAE.
6) ODI series victory against SA in SA.
7) Test series draw against England in England.

Almost wish that year was wiped out of our collective memories!

Great moment of the decade - 31st dec 2019.

Hopefully we wont ever have such a pathetic decade ever again.

I remember that day very well. Came to know about the news from Pakpassion. Totally changed Pakistan cricket. Lost a young captain, a potent pace attack, and saw the arrival of Misbah-Ul-Haq, who had his own influence on the team’s game and strategy.

All said and done, Misbah-Ul-Haq lifted the team from the mess and restored the respect. He deserves respect for that.

Saj - must have been heart breaking to sit there and listen to the evidence. Really respect you for not losing interest in the game after that.

Nearly did.

Wondered whether it was worth it, but then I thought why give up on the whole team due to 3 corrupt individuals.

However it did make me think how many others were involved in it.

He has not aged at all in 10 years.

The Mohali loss still haunts me to this very day. Misbah's knock was an absolute disgrace. That should have been the end of his white ball career (at the very least), but instead PCB rewarded his incompetence with the captaincy.

Pakistan's cricket after the 2011 WC up until 2015 WC under Misbah's leadership were the darkest of days for the fans and what's scary is that I don't think we've seen the worst of it with his current dual role as Chief Selector and Head Coach.

The sooner we get rid of him, the less murky the 20s era will be for Pakistan cricket.

Beyond stupid to blame Misbah for the loss. Those who actually watched the game would know that Younis Khan was way worse and it's not like any of the other players did anything better.

When Younis Khan got out we were 106 in 26 overs we required a 154 from 24 overs with the likes of Razzaq, Umar Akmal and Afridi still to come. It wasn't a big ask but our pinch hitters failed. Our opening stand failed to give us a decent start. Younis Khan wasted 32 balls to score a magnificent 13 runs and Asad Shafiq failed to get to a decent score after playing slowly as well.

But yes, let's blame it all on Misbah since it's a one man sport.

To me, the SRL Test series happening in Pakistan- nothing comes close to it. May be next four will be ranked no 1 in Test, 4 Test series draw in UK, CT win and the ODI series win in India.

2010 spot fixing scandal will always haunt Pakistan cricket.
On positive terms, CT 2017 is probably the best moment for PCT since 1992 WC. Especially considering the final match.

Could you tell me what was the run rate when first Younis came in to bat and then when Misbah came to the crease?

Could you tell me what was the run rate when first Younis came in to bat and then when Misbah came to the crease?

When Younis came onto bat the run rate was 4.57 (70 runs 15.3 overs). When Misbah came on to bat the run rate was 4.38.

When Younis left run rate was 4.17 after which the run rate went up and Misbah left we had a run rate of 4.6.

There's a lot of things happening here. Firstly, failure to capitalize properly on the power play overs. Secondly, failure of those playing extremely slow to speed up their innings later and score a decent score at a good strike rate and thirdly, the failure of our 3 pinch hitters down the order.

We needed a run rate of 5.2 to win the match when it began. Which means the average strike rate of the team needed to be 86.6. Misbah played at a strike rate of 73.68, Shafiq 76.92, Hafeez 72.88 and Younis at 40.62. All of these batsmen are at fault for playing slow. Those who played at a decent strike rate failed to make any decent scores Karman scored 19 at a strike rate of 90, Afridi scored 19 at a strike rate of 111 and Akmal 29 at a strike rate of 120.

The thing that would've turned the game around is if all of the people that played below the par strike rate had brought their strike rate back up to par or those who played at a strike rate way above the par strike would've scored a decent knock. Neither of those happened and in the end that is the reason we lost. It's not down to one person, we lost because the entire team batted horribly.

Apologies I meant to ask what their respective run rates required were when they each came in to bat.

Whilst I agree the likes of YK and Asad Shafiq were also at fault for batting so sedately, the chief culprit was Misbah, as he allowed the run rate to spiral out of control. His lack of urgency when the team needed it the most is the reason why he gets the bulk of the blame for screwing up the chase.

I watched every ball of this match and from what I saw was clearly a man that wasn't playing in the best interests of his team but rather to boost his stats with a useless half century, which turned out to be suffice for him to cement a spot in the ODI XI for another four years up until the 2015 WC.
