What would have happened if India lost the 2019 World Cup final in the way New Zealand did?

I saw this post somewhere on FB today. Someone thanked God that India lost in semi final and not in final otherwise there would have been suicides, heart failures, potential riots across India and probably in London too and a huge debate/court case in ICC :)) :))

What do you think

The wrath that Ben Stokes would have invited for that overthrow would have been unprecedented.

He would have genuinely been under life threat.

I could only imagine what would have been Virat's expression after that overthrow when you compare it with Kane Williamson's expression after that overthrow.

The umpires would have probably not signalled it a 6 and send it to third umpire straightaway.

Pretty much this.

No way on earth would Kohli have allowed those six overthrows. Williamson shouldn't have either.

I imagine Indian team would have threatened to walk out if that ridiculous overthrow was not overturned immediately.

Thank god a subcontinental team was not in that final - our people are far too emotional. People would've died from heart attacks and suicides, and that's no exaggeration.

At least in New Zealand cricket is a secondary sport.

If India lost like that, ICC probably would've changed the overthrow rule very quickly.

Full respect to NZ cricket and fans for taking this heart break of a defeat like real men.

Had it been any team from SC, we would have never heard the end of this match (if it did end after the overthrow thing). Barring Sri Lanka maybe, i imagine all 3 other Asian teams to make a major on field issue with that call :))

Rules would have been revised with retrospective effect and overthrow would have been overturned.

India would been declared world cup champions

Speaking for myself, I would have thrown a stupendous hissy fit.

But as a poster prior implied, it would have been the same if it had been India, Pakistan or Bangladesh. I think Sri Lanka would have been a shade (just) better.

Dais how subcontinental teams, and fans, roll.

NZ is the only team who would've reacted so calmly. Imagine it happened to the English instead. The whinging Poms would never stop complaining. Botham was still salty about being given out in the 1992 final, thinks England were robbed :)).

NZ's classy response made this fiasco seem way more normal than it actually was or would have been for majority of the cricket world.

You have to respect Williamson. You really have to. THe guy took it in.

Indian fans would had whined. Ben Stokes would had not got an IPL contract. There would had been a case lodged to ICC. Ohhh, if only had it been India at the losing end.

People here who are saying any subcontinent team, Guys in 2007 final of World T20, we had to accept taht defeat. After Misbah attacked on Harbajhan and the crossing with Asif had taken place, Pakistanis were 100% they were winning and were just 2 shots away. 1 goes for six, and everyone waited for 2nd cause Misbah always use to finish it. That catch was a heartbreak for us and we accepted it.

i am glad it wasn't Sri Lanka, cause they had played 2 finals, and losing the third like that would had been unfair.

If this happened to Bangladesh, our fans probably would've whined about it for a long time.

NZ are a really polite and gentle team. They didn't make a big deal.

Brother, many Pakistani fans still cry and whine about Saeed Ajmal lbw appeal against Tendulkar to this day. It's been 9 years already. We have never heard the end of it.

Kohli could have got a three to six months ban ...,,,...

On a serious note though, is it possible the umpires would have overruled the additional 4 overthrow runs under Kohli/BCCI pressure? It was a huge moment in the match. Probably wouldn't have been a super over if it had settled there.

Does India even have that level of clout?

Aus, ind, eng and all other teams would have not taken that decision so easily and those extra 5 runs were just unfair, i still believe nz needed to put more pressure on that umpire when he declared those extra runs.
TBF I find newzealand a very boring team, it looks like they play to win the fairplay award. No heart.

We have seen umpires overturn their decision many times, nz didn't try their level best.

I made s thread about this after that match but in regards to Pakistan lol
I personally feel that if India and England played the final and the super over was tied in sure ICC would change the rules that instant and maybe decalare joint winners lol ICC can't go Agaisnt India

What do you think

Well to be honest the average Indian is not so crazy any more ( as it used to be in 90s & early 2000s)

Remember 1996 WC semi final loss & whole nation went into collective mourning. Same in 2003 & 2007 WC

In 2019 we lost in semi final - next day everyone is back to his own life as if nothing happened. Very little actual outrage / depression among the public. TV channels tried to stir some emotions in 2015 but in 2019 even that did not happen

Jokes aside, even in the Non Asian Bloc world, only NZ are classy enough to take it lightly

Australia, England themselves would have thrown a hissy fit.

Do you think someone like Ponting would have let things go that way easily ?
