What would the landscape be like if Pakistani players were allowed in IPL?

Really interesting thought, that brings up numerous questions.

Would Pakistan still have created PSL?

Possibly having the tournament at a different time of the year? surely we would then see Indian players in PSL but PSL likely would not be played in Pakistan.

The bad blood would have made daily headlines, imagine Gambhir as head coach for Karachi Kings and getting called out by Pakistani fans and media for 2 straight months, he would'nt be coming back again after what he would go though.

Even if Pakistani players were playing in IPL Indian players wouldn’t have played in PSL.

Indians don't play in any league. They have to retire from IPL to play in other leagues which is what DK did. He retired and played in SA20.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar speaking during a TV show:

“We had the Pakistanis playing in the IPL. Just about every franchise had a Pakistani player, we also had Pakistani commentators. Pakistan always wants India to invite them. But we've never heard—I'm talking even before the relations got into the state that they are in today—there is hardly anything. How many of our singers or how many of our film stars, are invited to act in Pakistani films?”

“It's always we who were making that first move. We're the ones who were reaching out. So, that is the only thing what I'm saying. When you talked about this bullying and stuff like that what's going on, we're not bullying anybody. We just minding our own business.”

I'll tell you exactly what the landscape would have been like. Sure, the PSL would still have been around.

But the Pakistani T20 and ODI teams would consistently have been amongst the best in the world, top 2/3.

IPL would have been the finishing school that County was for Windies and Pakistan in the 1970s and 1980s.

Imagine players like Shaheen, Fakhar, even Babar and Rizwan honing, or being compelled to hone, their talent in a world class competitive environment, instead of taking it easy and lording it in the domestic competition as they are doing today.

Imo, this is what Pakistan has truly and crucially missed out on.

IPL is not a charity. You have to be a truly special world class player to make it there. I don't think too many Pakistani players would have been in consistent demand in the IPL.

Lol what? The real question should be how many of them will dare to say yes to a Pakistani invitation without facing backlash from andhbhakts. Does Sunil Gavaskar really think these stars aren't invited there? :yk :inti

Indian cricket would not have truly emerged as Pakistani players with more flare and appeal would have dominated like the West Indians did in early years.

I am sure - statistically speaking, if nothing else - 2/3 Pakistani players would have done well, maybe better than well. The learning and growth owuld hasve been immense, just sharing the same dugout with world greats, access to their training methods, exposure to the latest strategies etc.
