What would be the right combination for Pakistan in the T20 WC 2024?

Shaheen, Amir, Naseem and Zaman Khan for me as first choice pace attack

Haris Rauf, I've gone off him.
 
Abbas Afridi should be the 3rd seamer

He has to play IMO.
 
I wont go with four pacers as WI pitches support spin better compared to pace. So I will pick Shaheen, Amir, and Naseem as fast bowlers and will select two spinners along with them.
 
Shaheen, Naseem & Amir are locked.

Haris Rauf is injured and shouldn't be picked ahead of anyone even if fit. I would go with Abbas Afridi but also potentially look at Arshad Iqbal. Zaman is a one trick pony.

That's all you need for pace. If someone struggles during the tournament, Rauf is the replacement.

After that you need spin options:

Abrar
Shadab
Imad
Iftikhar
Saim

This means a weaker batting order at the top.

OR

Shadab
Imad
Iftikhar
Saim

This means you add an extra batsman in the middle order (likely Fakhar).
 
If 4 pacers Naseem, Shaheen, Amir and Abbas for me.
But Pak should go for 3 pacers in which case I would go for Naseem, Shaheen and Amir
I actually think Abbas is better than Amir, but Amir's experience will count for more in crunch games, imo. And I think he will be able to handle the pressure better.

I think one of Shadab/Imad (Ideally Imad) should play so they can bring in an attacking leg spinner 👀

Yes both really are part time spinners, and Shadab is a part time cricketer

They are more than handy bowlers. They can easily chip in 2/3 overs each per game if need be. Their bowling will be handy in the WI.

If all seamers are targeted what will you do. Phil salt demolished the fast bowlers and made two centuries. How will you outbat them in such a scenario?
 
Shaheen, Naseem, Aamir, and Jamal (gives another batting option). Then we will have 3 spinners in Imad Shadab, Abrar and Ifthikar. Total 7 bowling options!
Jamal also allows you to select Abrar as a specialist spinner since he can bat.
 
Amir is finished he's bowling off-spinners now.
should be Naseem Shaheen Abbas Zaman if they decide to field 4 pacers

Pak typically have 7 bowling options if you include ifti and Ayub.

Typically it’s always been out spinners who come in the middle overs and peg down the opposition’s economy.

But knowing babar, and the way he captains. He will continue bowling the pacers who are getting smacked.

If it ends up as a battathon Pakistan will be woefully out of resources. Their only hope is some how restricting every oppoition to a manageable total with 4 seamers and 2 part time spinner and one full time spinner.

ICC pitches have never been roads. They make sporting pitches.

Not really. lol Last world cup bowlers were destroyed except the final. 50 over that is. Only reason 2022 was hard because those pitches were early season pitchess with a lot of juice.

Same question can be put in the other way. If all spinners are targeted what will you do?

I know conditions may support spinners but at the end of the day if playing 4 seamers works better for you as a team on any particular game then that's better.

I am taling about extra batsman. Not extra spinner.

Came across an interesting today.

Spinners in WI averaged 23 odd at an economy rate around 7.5.

Pave bowlers in WI averaged 27 at an economy rate of 9.4.

Both Abrar and Usama should be in the squad.

I checked the stat of Shaheen. He went for 10.4 last time? I don't th ink you get a lot of lateral movement there. Batsmen should still be able to hit through the line.
 
I would go with:

Shaheen
Amir
Naseem
Abbas ( because he can bat a bit) otherwise Rauf
 
I think three pacers are enough here, four would be just too much. As wickets in West Indies support both pacers and spinners.
