Happy new year everyone!

I thought this is the best time to make guesses on the big players who will retire from test cricket this year to fully focus on white ball.

My guesses are:

Rohit Sharma, Ben Stokes, David Warner, Kagiso Rabada

Happy New Year to all PP'ers!:ds
I think Warner said he will play till 2024 Ashes. Or wants to play assuming he is injury free and continously selected.
The other three - i guess Ben stoekes and hitman have a passion to play and excel in TC , dont see them retiring.
dont know muc about KG, may be its some internal SAF admin thing, but if he retires it will be a pity.

I can see Buttler/Bairstow going down this route. Broad and Andersen will also call it a day after this dreadful Ashes tour.

SAF cricket board needs to get its priorities right or I can see likes of Van der Dusen and Markram not sticking for long either.

Stokes (IPL, BBL, LOI)
Buttler (IPL, BBL, LOI)
Rabada (IPL, PSL, BBL, LOI)
Joe Root (IPL, BBL, LOI)
Broad
Anderson
Azhar Ali
Ishant Sharma
Pujara
Rahane

Joe Root has always wanted to play in the IPL, I reckon he’ll give up on the test format for a chance to play in the IPL.

I don't see many of the top superstars mentioned above like Stokes, Rabada, Warner, Buttler etc retiring any time soon. All are too young to retire and look plenty invested in the format still.

Stokes heavily accelerated his physical and mental recovery to make a Test comeback for this Ashes, and it's the format in which he played his most famous innings. He won't let it go any time soon.

ross taylor, lol

seriously tho shakib is a given, and i think tamim might retire, hoping azhar finally sees the light of day. i dont think jimmy will be able to hack another 5 or 6 tests, so id say jimmy too.

Anderson will retire after finishing home season this year. He has 9 test matches till then, all with Dukes ball.

Pujara ,Rahane , Ishant ,Saha , Anderson , broad ,Azhar Ali ,Shakib Al Hasan

Rohit - woh to abhi abhi shuru huya hain

Rabada won't retire. It's the South African "whites" who have been happy to jump ship so far.

None in and around the current Indian test team are retiring before the 2023 final.

Pakistan has a realistic chance of making the final as well so don't think the likes of Azhar Ali, Fawad alam etc would like to miss out on that.

None from Australia too as their whole team is still relatively in their primes.

From NZ, Taylor obviously. Outside chance of Wagner retiring.

Can realistically see the likes of Butler, Bairstow and heck even Acher going the De Kock route.

Shakib will definitely retire. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't yet having looked at all his antiques in the past few years.

India- Ishant, Saha, Hardik, Natarajan
Pakistan- Azhar, Abid
Srilanka- Mathews, Dilruwan, Kusal P
Bangladesh- Mustrafizur, Shakib, Tamim
Australia- Paine, Shaun Marsh, Starc
Newzealand- Wagner, Neesham, degrandhomme, Somerville
England- Anderson, Bairstow
Windies- Hetmyer
South Africa- Olivier (probably)

Shakib is guaranteed, he already mentioned that he's considering whether he will play tests again or not.

A lot of people are mistaking not being picked or discarded completely as being retired. I don't think any of the Indian players will retire. They are in too much of a high and self belief is at high even if performances may not match. This will certainly be the last year for Pujara, Rahane and Ishant but they won't retire yet. Rohit Sharma will go on till his form dips, another 2 years maybe. VK no way.

Jimmy Anderson is the most likely to hang up his boots IMO, Stuart Broad may not retire but this could ne his last year. There could be shock retirements to increase T20 participation like QDK. Jos Butler, Jason Holder seem likely to do that.

Pujara, Stokes, Azhar, Taylor, and a couple of South African players will follow QDK.
I hope it won't be Rabada, he looks a bit uninterested

Sincerely hope that it will not be Benjamin Stokes!

Well if cricketers are forced to play 5 back to back tests in this Covid bubble world, then the chances of them giving up are high if they are a wanted T20 commodity.

Concur, it’s long past time for England to rebuild. These old stagers are in the way now.
