As he approaches the fantastic milestone of his 100th Test match, which do you feel has been his best Test innings?

Hard to top the 260 odd in Bangalore

I think we need a YK Top 3 test innings thread considering the numerous option Saj

Surprised to see he only has one century in England, and one in South Africa.

SA is understandable. though he did play a great innings (but not a century) in 2006/07 when we won a test there.

Eng I thought he scored a lot in 2006!

what makes the 267 in Bangalore special is the circumstances. Everyone wanted him dropped and he was termed as useless before the match

That was actually before the Kolkata Test, where he scored 147.

He went for single digit scores in Mohali and people were calling for his head. In fact if a recall correctly, prior to the Indian tour, a PCB official criticized him publicly and people used to call him 'Useless Khan'.

On topic: the 267 in Bangalore was definitely his finest Test innings.

Watched his 267 at Bangalore in 2005 and have been a fan ever since. Has to be his best ever knock. The treatment he gave to Kumble was a thrashinh he'll always remember.

That Inzi-YK partnership of 300+ after being 7/2 in the 3rd over was a surreal one. And the best part was YK coming for the PC and saying thinks like I dont think the knock was special. I should have scored these runs in 400 balls and not 500 balls!!

That was predominantly Yousuf, when he decided to morph into the demonchild of Bradman and Viv Richards.

got timeline wrong I guess.

another special innings of his was when he scored a century to save an all but lost test match against SA in UAE in our first test series after the spot fixing scandal and Misbah's first series as captain.

That was after Kolkata test (not before).

Don't think PCB criticized him before the tour, infact they made him vice captain for the first time for that tour.

And yeah, fans were against him cuz he had 3 single digit scores in 4 innings on that tour. He got out on duck first ball on the final day of Kolkata test that brought up Pakistan's collapse and we lose that match. Thats why his 147 became a wasted effort.

That was a good innings though it won't be in his top 5 I guess.

Steyn just made a comeback after injury and was rusty. Morkel wasn't much effective on those pitches and their spinners (Botha and Harris) were too easy for Misbah and YK. That was more or less an easy going innings.

match was all but lost heading into last day and YK was playing his first test after a more than a year.

so a great comeback effort. we had also gotten out for 240 odd in first innings and SA had a day and a half to get us out

His double ton against Zimbabwe was a great one.

Zimbabwe got first innings lead of about 80 and we were effectively 90/5 in second innings with only Adnan Akmal + tail to come.

Could have lost that series 2-0 had it not been Younis there.

267 vs India in Bangalore has to his finest innings. That is the knock that turned him around as a batsman. You could see that from the very next innings of 84*; he had become different batsman. From that moment on there was no looking back. He averages 62 from the start of that tour till now; the second highest in the world in the said period. Before that the average was 37.

Some other great knocks that I have seen him play;

111 vs SA in Capetown. Pak were destroyed in the first test, bowled out for 47 in one of the innings. Younis walked into an all too familiar sight. The openers were gone in a matter of balls, the ball was swinging all over the place and it was up to him to bring out the rescue act. It got even worse when Misbah and Azhar got out leaving Pak at 27-4. What followed an amazing partnership with Shafiq and his first ton in SA.

67* vs SA in Port Elizabeth. Our only test win in SA in the past decade. Bowlers set it up wonderfully with us requiring 190 odd to win. A typical Pakistan collapse followed but Younis held on at one end and steered us to a memorable victory. One of his trade-mark 4th innings knocks.

213 vs Aus in Abu Dhabi. A brilliant knock. What made it even more special was seeing the crowd. It was jam packed and this was a place where you hardly got 50 people during a day. Speaks volumes of what a magical innings it was. Younis deserved to get to that moment in front of a packed crowd and U.A.E delivered.

His twin hundreds(106 and 103*) vs Aus at DSC are also worth a mention. The first one was his first vs Aus; walking in 2-7( every Pak fan was going not again at this point) his hundred put Pak back on top. The 103* took him past Inzamam as the leading century maker for Pakistan.

131* vs SA at the DSC. A Younis fourth innings special. If I remember correctly this was our first series post the fixing fiasco and Younis was coming off a long hiatus as well. A great match saving knock under the circumstances.

100 vs Aus in Dubai Rest was a fine knock as Pakistan was coming off a clean sweep in odis and had lost 2 early wkts..i em talking about century in 1st innings...

Easily his 267...

Although his 199 and 147 against India were great knocks too that I rate higher than his 213 against Australia

267 versus us :facepalm, it wasalso Inzi's 100th Test match.
313 versus SLanka because the team was in a rebuilding phase at that time, also was the last test match in pakistan.

Have to mention the Bradman'isque series he had versus Australia earlier this season.

Younis truly is a test great.

tbf this was maybe the flattest pitch i have ever seen in Pakistan for a test match

i was there for one of the days. Was bored to death as SL were batting and were smashing Sohail Khan around for fun at 6+ an over. IIRC Umar Gul took a wicket in the first over and after than it was runs galore

also this was his first match as captain

An innings that YK mentioned in his recent interview was Auckland 2001, don't think it was a ton but it surely must have been a good knock for him to nominate it as one of his best innings and I think he also pointed out the popularly regarded 267 he scored in that interview too.

yes this! he was made the VC right before the tour & peoples thought that he was an inexperienced/non serious man & shouldnt have made vc his innings in mohali test spice up the case more, particularly how he bowled by balaji when leaving the ball.

If Younis doesn't take out of that 7-2 hole against Australia, we would've mentally crumbled. That was a great 100 under pressure which sparked confidence in the whole team and lead to a legendary thrashing and a series victory after 20 years.

For pure batsmanship, his 173 at headingley and his 149* at Auckland were pretty good, chance less knocks.

For knocks made under pressure his century on debut deserves a mention.

300 against Sri Lanka when Sri Lanka bat first and make over 500 and he came lead his side

According to Younus himself, it's the one he scored in Auckland.

My favorite innings of his was the 260 odd he scored in India, and the the centuries he scored in partnership with Yusuf during India's tour of 2006

The Bangalore innings was that khalaas innings right? Where he rubs his hands and violently fist pumped towards the dressing room. Was under immense pressure.

Whatever it is, he might have to top it in the second innings of this test if we have to win it.

Bon signature, mon ami..

Even though the test was a lost cause and but that was an audacious innings by YK. SL scores 644 runs and Pak are two down for 78 runs and YK scores his highest score of 313 and Pak betters SL score by scoring 765.

Still rate Bangalore 267 higher, but this 171* would have to be in his top 5, maybe even top 3.

True, for all we know he may not have even played his best innings yet.

Legendary. He may still have some other priceless innings to produce.

This is his second best behind the 267 in Bangalore. To come in at 13-2 and rotate strike as well as he did on a Day 4/ 5 pitch in Sri Lanka is outstanding.

Your favourite Younis Khan Test innings

As the sun sets on the career of one of Pakistans best slip batsmen, I wanted to make a thread about your favourite Younis innings in tests.

For me I'll go with the double century vs England in 2016 at the Oval. A close 2nd is the knock vs Sri Lanka where we chased down 370 odd.

How about you guys? shaz619 Junaids TalentSpotterPk Mamoon MMHS alisaad1998 Hawkeye Slog Markhor

267 vs India along with his double century at Oval.

I ll go with 267 innings but scoring a double century in England at the age of 43 was a massive achievement in many ways.

Agreed. He was out form but still found a way. Brilliant innings.

Many will prefer the 267 at Bangalore but for me his greatest knock was in England at the Oval in 2016; Khan had been past his prime for many many years but despite that managed to remain world class and our best bat, during his prime he'd not take so long to adjust and hundreds were a lot more frequent but touring England is a challenge for any man, young or old :kohli

Khan would become the subject of great ridicule and many obnoxious so called Pak fans would constantly berate him, he was struggling immensely but it wasn't like his wicket was being thrown away; he fought hard for the runs he did make even though he wasn't able to make a big score but as Nassir said "Khan is fighting, the effort, desire and commitment are there despite his issues" then Khan would roll back the years as if he were the prime spring chicken of 09 and produce one of the greatest knocks of all time to help is country level the series in England.

Past his prime, 40+ and seemingly "out of form", poor reflex's and all etc yet despite all these factors he produced a match winning knock to win a Test in England; so when you look at the odds he had to overcome it's his greatest knock for me. Those 267 runs in comparison were easy peasy:lara plus he could demolish the Indians with tickles and giggles

:harby:kakmal:ashwin:hafeez2

Have a soft spot for the 313 against Lanka as well was a monumental knock, I recall on PP posters legit thought he could break Lara's record and he had a chance to as well

It's gotta be that one, surely. Along with Misbah, he pulled out one of THE great test victories...not of the best Pakistani victories or one of the best Asian victories...no, one of the very best test victories in the history of the sport. Period.

Nothing beats that 267 at Bangalore vs India. Such great was that knock. An ATG knock without any shadow of doubt.

Toss up between his 267 vs his 218.....

His 218 waaay past his prime has to be an ATGesque knock. While he may not be a bonafide ATG, that knock clearly shows had he played in England during his prime, he'd have most likely been one.

267 vs India.. established him as the best in the business. also 111 vs south africa

Those 2 definitely & probably the 267 at Bangalore. Order, probably SRL, Oval, Bangalore. Leeds one technically very good, but in a lost effort.

Hard to top the 260 odd in Bangalore

I think we need a YK Top 3 test innings thread considering the numerous option Saj

Yes, that was much needed score looking at the context. Probably his best test knock.

Palekalle, Dubai, Oval, Bangalore too many to chose from. All of them changed the result of the series.

Bangalore is my personal favorite though. To outperform Inzi at his best is incredible. And of course I can't forget "fifth time he raises his bat to the gallery" :raja

His century in Cape Town, 2013 is very special in my eyes. We had been shot out for under 50 in our last innings and like many Pakistanis, I had a sinking feeling when the first two Pakistani wickets fell for next to nothing. Then two more followed and I almost wanted to stop watching. Younis Khan not only scored a glorious hundred in tough batting conditions himself but also guided Shafiq through his innings as well. There was some trademark Younis Khan during the closing moments of the first day as well when Younis felt slighted at the South Africans' allegation that he was wasting time and asked the umpire to allow Steyn to bowl one more over after the scheduled close. The South Africans did not mess with him after that.

I won't say that was his best though because he has so many outstanding ones. He was an ATG batsman who played ATG innings.

The 147 v India in Kolkata 2005 was huge turning point for his career so deserves a shout. He was told he was finished by the team manager before the match and he wasn't a regular in the Test side at that point.

That helped spur him on for that magnificent 267 in Bangalore against Kumble and co. I'm going for that knock as it helped us draw the series away to India who had a star studded team then whilst we had one of the weakest bowling attacks in a generation.

The 218 at The Oval is a close second.

267 in Bangalore was a special knock i remember that series vividly. I used to go to my cousins every morning because they had the channel that was showing the series. I remember watching YK and Inzi smash the Indians to all parts and in particular Anil Kumble.
