Jack nicholson

Heath ledger

Mark hamil (voice)

Voice of joker has to be of Mark hamil for me. Heath played a legendary version but jack nicholson's version was closer to comic books.

I enjoyed Heath's performance most.

Heath Ledger was the best and this is coming from someone who saw the 1989 Keaton version before the Batman series was rebooted in the mid 2000s.

Jack Nicholson is a gem of an actor himself but Heath Ledger pulled out an ATG level performance in The Dark Knight 2008 version of the film ~ JN is a close second IMHO.

What about the voice of Joker? I think no one comes close to Mark Hamil in that regard. The absolute perfect joker voice in my opinion. Just the way it should be. But it is subjective.

Mark Hamil, simply outstanding; the greatest depiction and most authentic of the Joker ever. Basically he was Ledger and JN combined in one, not easy to find that balance to do the origins justice.

But if we're talking live action then I'd probably go with Ledger but JN is not too far behind.

The boy (Cameron Monaghan) in Gotham was just perfect.

Jerome deserves a shout he has been excellent, his storyline arc is not complete yet though and I feel they're building towards his complete transformation

Suleiman Black Zero Since you guys watch Gotham as well, where do you rank Jerome / Cameron amongst Nicolsan and Ledger

Ledger

Nicholson

Leto wasn’t that bad either.

Hamill has the best voice,of course. Also portrayed a similar character on the Flash TV show.

I expect leto to be up there when he gets more screen time.

People have been harsh with him because they love ledger and cant accept anyone else as joker after he passed away.

Exaclty.Ledger was good but he gets received better because he passed away, sounds harsh but true.

Across all Jokers ever:

1. Mark Hamill
2. Cameron
3. Ledger / Jack Nicholson
4. Cesar Romero
5. Jared Leto

Got to give Cesar Romero credit because he often falls under the radar, he was tasked to bring the character to life for the first time and it was a challenge but he invented the template which obviously was polished by other actors that were to play the role down the line but he did quiet well as a maniacal unhinged villain from the episodes I have watched during the ITV re-runs. Robert and Junaids may have watched the show more closely when it first aired.

Mark hamil for me - He has managed to keep up the intensity and freshness of the Character for almost 20+ years through various shows and video games and animated films. That too only being allowed to use his voice.

Who knows what would have happened had Heath played more sequels or accepted the role in DCEU ? It's sort of the question regarding what would've happened had tupac or Biggie lived ..

Also , I think Hamil's Joker is far more faithful to the comic book identity of the Joker, he quite playful and clowny at times with hints of his psychopathy showing in between. That is EXACTLY how the joker was in the TIMMVERSE DC animations. I think for all his great acting , Nolan/Ledger made the joker another Hannibal Lecter , It was great , but for some reason felt a bit removed from the comics.

OTOH as far as cinematic villians go , I think the joker could be in the TOP 5 , along with Alex (clockwork orange), hannibal lecter , The terminator from T1 and the Xenomorph from Alien.

I was thinking the same lol. Hard to compare since all 3 bring something unique to the table. Nicholson's shows more of the Joker's trollish/whimsical side, Ledger's shows his evil genius, and Jerome's is just pure sadistic. I think Jerome's is more in line with the overall image and persona of the Joker so I'll give it to him.

1) Jerome
2) Ledger
3) Nicholson

I see you put Mark Hamill in there and while that was just voice acting, I don't think there has ever been a voice actor so damn fitting to a character. This man defined the 4 pm Batman series portion of my childhood. I remember how excited I was when Joker was alive after all these years in Batman Beyond Return of the Joker.

I thought it was just another BB episode, but turned out to be an epic movie.

The thing with Mark Hamill is even beyond authenticity he is just fantastic on an individual level for those who care not for origins but it's obviously a very important thing and am sure the actors themselves would want to do them justice. And that's a good point about his run for 20+ years.

Jerome sounds a lot like Ledger tbh just a bit more base.

But Ledger absolutely nailed the acting hands down.

The jail scene with Batman is the best possible portrayal of any dialogue between Batman and Joker.

Comparing voice actors with full fledged acting is unfair to full time actors. It takes a lot more effort to embody a role and get all the physical attributes of the character perfectly right, down to last detail. Mark Hamil can't hold a candle in front of ledger, Ledger is the undisputed, best joker of all time.

The thing about the joker is that unlike a superman or wonder woman, Joker's physical attributes have always been poorly defined (intentional maybe), so the "physical attribute " argument doesn't fly. The jokers facial scars and skin colour are left unexplained in the TDK films. So this isn't about Heath ledger adapting something from the source (where the joker has a proper origin) .

The comic book description (as it is the source material) is better represented in the animated series than what heath portrayed, though it was due to Nolan setting the whole batman mythos in a 'realistic' universe.

I think the TDK's Joker was downright scary and better than past movie versions. But it's a matter of 'best performance' vs 'true to source material' . Sort of how people differ on what is the best Harry potter film.

Hamill, then Nicholson. I didn't like Ledger's version.

Heath Ledger

Curious to know why you don't like him. Robert

I thought it was an excellent performance, but just not how I see The Joker. I'm old school. See The Killing Joke version by Alan Moore.

Ledger for sure. Nicholson basically played himself with Joker's make up on. Never seen any Batman cartoons to form an opinion on Hamill.

Not sure about the portrayal but Ledger's acting was sublime.

He nailed that role.

Heath Ledger, easily. Anyone who hates on him is just trying to be a cool hardcore comic book fan and doesn't know anything about movies. Mark Hamill is second because the joker was amazing in the Arkham games as well. Nicholson third. Leto was absolute trash and I predicted that his movie would be garbage long before it came out

He's excellent and his narrative isn't even complete yet, for a guy so young the Jerome character is played exceptionally well so I probably have to agree with you when it comes to rating him as the best given how he finds the best balance among the live action incarnations. Those animated movies were so good, I loved that. The Dark Knight Returns and Under the Red Hood were outstanding as well.

Fair enough, The Joker does vary quite a lot, whether it's the different series' or the difference between his interpretation in the comics compared to the films and games. It would definitely affect someone's opinion on this topic.

Robert Do you think Bats killed the joker during the final panels of that comic book after being pushed to the absolute brink ?
