What's new

Which league has the better fast-bowlers - IPL or PSL?

This is the 9th match yet not a single team has been able to defend a score. The average first inning scores in the last 7 matches have been 190+ yet not a single team has been able to defend even there huge scores

So whats the verdict now? Lots of high scoring games in PSL. Team winning toss is fielding first bcoz they are backing their batsmen to chase any target.

Better fast bowlers but not a single one can defend any target at all.

You lot were consistently(in the uae) complaining about lack of batting stars in psl which resulted in low score in tournament .So what is the verdict now does batting have found their "stars" in pak or bowlers were too good in uae:rabada2

The "PSL has better bowling standards than the IPL" jumla was never going to last too long after it moved out of the UAE. It was only a matter of time.

Just imagine what the IPL batting lineups would do to these lot who're getting clobbered by the likes of Dunk, Stirling, Sarfraz, Joe Clarke etc...

Also do yourself a favour whilst your at it and check the names who are the leading run scorers so far in this year’s PSL.

From a neutral stand point certainly say IPL has the better fast bowlers in the likes of Rabada, Archer, Bumrah, Buvi Kumar, Shami, Stokes, Kyle Jamison (he'll be joining this season) and Sam/Tom Curran. PSL has (no offense) past it's prime players, they're great when they get going but PSL needs to invite more in form players.

Sharjeel, Rizwan, Hafeez, Fakhar, Hales, Vince, Babar. Top run scorers.

Love how deluded people like you cherry pick names.

wasn,t chennai super king were one of the best side of ipl with player like dwayne smith, rayudu ,murli vijay :srt .

Even in high scoring IPL games, bowling sides were able to defend. So sometimes batting team won and sometimes fielding teams. It was a great balance between bat and ball, champion batsmen winning for the team. Then champion bowlers defending scores.

The issue here is not the high scores, its the toss being a lottery. This chasing team winning every single match just shows poor bowling standards, IMO

Dunno man. As far as I'm concerned....if they can't handle Maqsood, Sharjeel, Fakhar, Clarke etc , they have no hope against the Rohits and the Warners and the ABDs.

Or teams are bowling well when bowling first.
Don't know why people are crying. When low score games crying. When high score game which hurts people like you then people crying only chasing team only winning. Teams will win batting first too. Its not even half way through PSL yet. Relax and enjoy

More than half of those aren't even int'l regulars. I'm not saying these are mediocre or something but they're surely atleast a level below the IPL top cream of Kohli, Rohit, ABD, Rahul, Warner, QDK, Dhawan etc.

So if the PSL bowlers are struggling to contain and defend against these, you can only imagine what would happen to them if they get pitted against the IPL batting lineups.

No. Don't think Smith and Rayudu even played a game together for CSK.

When they were the no.1 IPL side, they had peak Dhoni, Hussey, Bazz, Raina, Bravo etc....

Hales would have been in the england squad if he didnt do what he did.

Fakhar,Hafeez, babar, rizwan are all regulars.vince has played for england.

And Sharjeel too played for Pakistan that's not my point. How many of these are currently part of their national teams?

Fakhar got dropped recently after his perfect portrayal in the role of a passenger for a good year or so.. Hales hasn't played int'l cricket for England in almost 3 years (no matter what the reason may be) and Vince is like their 5th choice opener right now who plays once in every 5 series....

One of the greatest bowlers of his era, South Africa’s veteran pacer Dale Steyn is currently piling his trade for franchise Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing 2021 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Steyn is having the best of times in Pakistan and is enjoying playing for Gladiators.

Thus far, Dale has featured in just one game for Quetta against Peshawar Zalmi and ended up with two wickets in his 4 overs at an economy of 11. The seamer is in awe of Pakistan’s young fast-bowlers like Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi and heaped praises on Pakistan for producing many world-class seamers despite their pitches not being very conducive for the pacers.

“I had a chat with Shaheen last year. I think he broke his thumb or hand or something like that last year. He was down but he was amazing. At Melbourne Star, I had Haris Rauf with me and I was so impressed by him and it wasn’t long after that he started playing for Pakistan.”

“There is a breeding machine of fast-bowlers here in Pakistan, which is great to see because the wickets are not conducive for fast bowlers so to see so many fast-bowlers come out of here is fantastic to see,” Dale Steyn told Cricket Pakistan.

Further in the interaction, Steyn lauded Pakistan’s skipper across all formats and arguably one of the best batsmen of modern era Babar Azam saying that Azam is a wonderful player and it will be a great opportunity for him to bowl against him in the ongoing PSL. However, the veteran knows that he might never get a chance to face Babar on the field as a bowler can only bowl 4 overs in a game.

“I’m looking forward to bowling to whoever is in front of me. Babar [Azam] is a great player. It really doesn’t matter who you are bowling against. Wahab Riaz came in last night [Zalmi vs Gladiators match], only faced eight balls and won the game for his side. So every player that you bowl to, comes with their difficulty,” he said.

“Babar is a wonderful player and it would be a great opportunity to try to get him out or bowl against him. But you never know, I might not even get to bowl at him because it’s only four overs or he might get a duck, who knows but he has been fantastic for the last couple of years,” he added.

Still waiting for these great fast bowlers to defend a total, any total

185 plus totals are not bowling well first. This thread is specificaly about fast bowler comparison. It helps if you read the thread title before jumping in.

Its poor fast bowlers who cannot defend a single score

If the totals were low you would he saying the batting is average who make the bowlers look good.

No winning against the padosis.

Pakistan local bowlers are superior to Indian locals for me.

Overall including overseas bowlers. No chance. IPL is better.

I would personally like the addition of Indian bowlers to the psl for a better mix of 145 and 125 kph bowling.
Will add a little variety to the tourney.

Pakistan pace attack nowadays lives largely on past reputation of Imran , Waqar , Wasim & Shoab Akhtar

Current pace attack is very mediocre. Hasnain , Naseem, Dhani , Haris Rauf , Musa - none are international class. People often keep talking abt speed guns but without right skillset , pace does not count for much

In contrast even second string Indian bowlers like Siraj, Shardul & Natarajan were good enought o take 20 wickets in Australia. Ultimately thats what matters - not how many times u clock 150 kph

This is only second full season of psl in Pakistan every thing is pretty much new for these youngsters and i am quite sure they will adopt to these conditions in coming years .Not denying pak bowlers struggle on flat wicket from last few years but playing in uae didn't help one bit for pak

Secondly if you look at 6 team local fast bowler .Almost 80% are newbie and starting their career few have already adjusted (shaheen, hasan ali,Husnain) while other are still adjusting to these alien conditions for fast bowlers .

Depends on the surfaces you play on. At Chennai Dhoni often uses spinners to good effect. Wankhede hsa good bounce. Kotla is low and slow. Bangalore wickets are a nightmare for pacers.

Every year during PSL Pak becomes the best team in the world, overflowing with pace demons and swashbuckling batsmen. Even random foreign domestic nobodies dispatch 150k thunderbolts with ease and pensioners and other league rejects can't stop talking about this hallowed event and the profound impact it has on their lives. Not sure why all these never reflect in Pak's actual international performances, where the pace demons start trundling right from get go, 40 year olds rules the batting order and Pak fighting tooth and nail for a middling spot in the ranking table.

IPL and PSL fanboiz need to understand that Franchise cricket exists to make money, yes they do play their roles in honing talents, but if you expect a steady supply of international class players every year your will be disappointed.

I bet you have not watch most of husnain, dhani but just criticising for sake of criticism. Husnain have improve leaps and bound and improving with each passing day while making a judgement on dhani after few outing in t20s is laughable 😂😂

You are comparing seasoned FC cricketers with young bowlers with barely single digit FC games under their belt. No surprise Indian bowlers out-bowled our pacers in Australia, they have gone through the proper rigors of domestic cricket rather than being thrust into the international limelight due to lack of options.

yes, Competition does breed success.
Everyone knows what happens to good quality pacers in Pakistan due to poor player management. Players are glorified instantly, leading to sudden elevation and after few poor performances these fresh faces are ridiculed and discarded instantly.
They need some direction, motivation and recuperation period. Some of them need to be taught correction in their technique instead of the customary solution of send them back to domestic division and let them sort out their problem.
iIf PCB can appoint top experts and cross discipline motivators to work out their issues, these same set of players will do wonders.
Fans should support PSL. get some money into the game and then take a leaf out of what the big franchisee owners of other leagues do.

PSL has better local fast bowlers..
Few more additions this season to that long list this season.....

Md Wasim
Md Imran...
Shanawaz

Hasnain and all of the above are still work in progress...and in order to develop they need to play more first class...

Hassan and Faheem came back to their bowling form which will only benefit Pak...

What was that attack that india played today. Bunch of 125 kph trundlers.
When even jordan clocked upto 147 kph.

Not sure why didn't we play Saini here? I would rather play Nattu and Saini instead of Bhuvi and Thakur sahab. Will add variety to this bowling attack. :inti

Natarajan is injured. Ideally Saini should play for Bhuvi. May be tried Bhuvi bcoz he is coming back after long lay off

Anyways its T20 only. Better try out the reserve options right now. For World T20 - Bumrah & Natarjan will be first choice I guess. Plus Pandya & 2 spinners

Once again, IPL bowlers restricting a full-strength English batting lineup to 160 odd. PSL Phassst bowlers were struggling to limit England to 190'ish and that was a team without Roy or Buttler. To be fair, even Wellington boys smashed these brainless PSL pacers so there probably wasn't a comparison in the first place . :)

Pakistani pacers has nothing more than pace and this is because of mentality in Pakistan that if you bowl over 140 you will have a shot in national team hence they work on speed rather than on skill.I mean playing faster bowler is no more difficult untill he has variation, swing, cutter, slower one.I don't know how far Wasim Akram would have gone if he would have relied on raw pace like young Pakistani bowlers.
Pakistani fans are going crazy over a bowler throwing at the pace of 140 plus.I mean the player who have come in IPL due to raw pace from bbl have been beaten badly for example jhye Richardson and Riley meredith.Even nortje bowls at 150 plus but he has more skills at his disposal.

And pitch in India is batting beauties compared to Pakistani pitch which aid reverse swing hence you cannot compare stats.peace

Tymal Mills speaking in an interview:

You have been a part of both IPL as well as the PSL. How different are the two tournaments according to you?

IPL is the biggest league in the world. nobody can ever deny it. I have seen that and experienced it on and off the field. Every game is played out in front of full crowds in front of 30000-40000 people right up to 75000 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Now, of course, the new stadium in Ahmedabad will beat that. So just in terms of magnitude and all things away from cricket, most evenings you have a sponsor you something to do, an engagement, a commercial shoot, a signing. There are a lot of things to do away from cricket which is not the worst thing since you have a lot of free time as well. It's a huge tournament.

PSL I have played for 4 years. The first happened in UAE which is not ideal for crowds and atmosphere. But I was lucky enough to go to Pakistan a few times now to play in Pakistan. Last year, I played a whole edition which was held in Pakistan, there the crowds were brilliant. The stadiums are the same sizes as India, they are largely sold out and there is a real passion. On the field, the PSL is tough as an overseas fast bowler because there are so many quick bowlers in Pakistan, the balance of teams is different. Mostly all overseas players are top-order batsmen whereas in IPL, it's a bit more of a mixture depending on what your team structure is, whereas in Pakistan, you have two and sometimes even four overseas batsmen and maybe just one overseas bowler because bowling stock is so good, they favor the local talent.

The IPL is the highest standard. All countries are available. The money is obviously there. The environment breeds success. Only the best survive. If you don't perform, you get moved on and someone else comes in. That's the environment of IPL and that's why it is the number one T20 league in the world.

Faf du Plessis speaking to the press:

The difference I see in the PSL compared to other leagues is the amount of fast-bowlers that are there.

Certainly the first time I came over to the PSL I was blown away that there were 3 guys in every team who could bowl quick. Fast-bowling is really is part of the culture of Pakistan cricket. You grow up on flat wickets where you need pace to get wickets and that is the stand-out for me.

In the CPL it’s about power-batsmen who can hit sixes, PSL has young talent in batting but fast-bowling is definitely the stand-out.
In India the depth in batting is the strength and also spin-bowling with a lot of different varieties. You go into the nets and you face 16 or 17 year-old kid that’s bowling all the deliveries and you think this kid is good enough to play in an IPL match tomorrow.
You play in all these Leagues around the world and then you compare where your own country stands. The stronger local domestic T20 tournaments are the better it is for local domestic cricket. The PSL in the long run will be hugely beneficial for Pakistan cricket.

It is a tried and tested formula that never fails. Although Faf has had an excellent IPL season this year, he is 36 and has at max only 1-2 IPL seasons left in the tank.

He knows that PSL will paying his bills for the next 4-5 years so expect him to follow his former teammate Steyn and transition into a full-time PSL cheerleader very soon.

Faf did well in 2020 in UAE and did well in 2021 before the postponement. I think he will have any IPL contract longer than you think.

IPL has trundlers only.PSL has fast bowlers.Local fast bowlers always top the tables in PSL I don't think that's the case in IPL.

Well James Faulkner is not fast but boy is he making things difficult for batsmen.

Not sure if PSL has better bowlers based on today's game. Faf Duplessis clearly went a bit overboard with his praise.

James Faulkner once again reminding us all the massive gulf in class between PSL and IPL fast bowling

Muhammad Wasim and Akif Javed were superb today! High quality home grown fast bowlers MashaAllah!

Mohammad Amir speaking to the PCB

“I travel all over the world to play cricket, and everyone rates the HBL PSL very highly because of the quality of bowling. No league comes closer in comparison when it comes to the quality of bowling, and now we are producing quality batters too.
