Maybe Sri Lanka and West Indies could miss out with Bangladesh and Afghanistan qualifying

Also don't forget Netherlands have very easy fixtures and they have built up a strong squad. Netherlands plays 12 winnable matches - 3 each against West Indies, Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe besides 3 matches against their traditional rivals England. Full strength Netherlands team with Tom Cooper, Ryan Ten Doeschate and co can't be taken lightly and they have a strong pace attack too

Very good and important thread, many teams who don't give a damn about ODIs now owing to two T20 WCs will realize a year later what **** they've got into.

Afghanistan is the danger side in my opinion, they have a very easy draw and can make it to top 8, meaning 2 of the top 9 may miss out.

At the moment Sri Lanka are in serious danger, not just because they've lost 3 crucial games to WI but also because they have a very tough draw.

Once it gets to the qualifier, don't take anything for granted, last times qualifier was one of the most intensely fought competition I've seen in recent times.

Sri Lanka currently 11th place and in serious trouble.

Pakistan 7th place having only played 3 matches so far.

Pakistan are not safe the team we’ve got currently lacking power hitters in the top order we just about beat Zimbabwe recently the bowling isn’t great either.

Pakistan will make it into the WC without playing the Qualifying tournament but I don't think SL will reach the WC without the Qualifying tournament.

Tom Cooper last played odi for Netherland in 2013 and 40 years old Ryan Ten Doeschate last played in 2011. Don't think they will play for Netherland again and seems way past their best.

Afghanistan can probably fight for the last spot with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Has to be between Sri Lanka and West Indies. And I would give the edge to Sri Lanka.

I think Bangladesh are comfortably a notch above these two teams.

South Africa and Pakistan are a notch above Bangladesh.

And then you have England, New Zealand, India and to a lesser extent Australia in the top tier.

Tom Cooper didn't play much as he was trying to play for Australia. He did play for Netherlands in T20 WCs in 2014 & 2016. Tom Cooper is 34 and unlikely to play for Australia now and he will consider playing in ODI league to get a chance to play big teams. Ryan Ten Doeschate is still active in county cricket and getting runs, no reason why he can't play till 2023 WC for Netherlands

Sri Lanka are comfortably better than Bangladesh. Last time they played an ODI series, SL thrashed them 3-0.

WI, if they go proper "full strength" are also better than BD.

Why is india included in the polls. As hosts they have already qualified, even if they are last in the ranking and lose every series

I mean its debatable. I personally think Bangladesh have a slight edge over these two because of the performance they gave in the World Cup. But then again, Sri Lanka and West Indies can easily go over them any day of the week.

I don't think a full-strength West Indies team is anything special. We saw what they did in the World Cup. They had a full-strength team and barring the game in which Pakistan completely imploded they rarely looked like a side that would make the semi-finals.

The current Pakistan ODI team is close to minnow level we’re not guaranteed to go through Afghanistan have made a decent start aswell Pakistan are in trouble and we would currently lose to most teams in a series unless some changes are made under Misbah it’s unlikely.

You need to watch more cricket if that is what you think. Pakistan is roughly on the same level as South Africa which is middle of the table

No we aren’t a middling team the rankings are misleading currently we’re close to a 7th or 8th ranked team we need some changes to improve the current squad is weak and progress is unlikely.

Were you watching the Zimbabwe series we almost lost 2-1 to a genuine minnow.

:salute

England lost a one match ODI series to Scotland not too long ago. Does that make them a minnow level team?

India tied with Afghanistan at the Asia Cup. What conclusions do you draw from that?

Why don't you go ahead and look at the rankings again? Its not that hard will only take a matter of seconds.

And the rankings are actually fairly accurate because they are based on consistency of outcomes.

One off matches but they can beat anyone we can’t we would lose series to the top 5 teams 9 times out of 10 currently and no guarantee to beat other teams aswell currently.

I don't know if you know this but we too lost one match to Zimbabwe.

And I never said he could beat any team. But we can easily beat every team ranked below us. As for South Africa; we're 3-3 against them in the last six ODIs. The upcoming series will prove which is the better side.

I honestly don't see Netherlands finishing in top 8. At their best, They can win 4-6 out of the 12 matches you mentioned and maybe 1-2 against other sides, which still won't be enough

Agree

WI were actually very lucky to qualify for the 2019 WC. A bad decision plus rain helped them beat Scotland in a do or die match.

South Africa have Ireland and Netherlands so they won't be in 11th for too long.

Looks like Sri Lanka will be playing the WC qualifiers. They have India and England as their next 2 ODI series. Don't expect many wins from them there.

What depths have Sri Lanka fallen into! Is this the same team which once produced Murali, Sanath, Sanga, Aravinda, Mahela?!!!

I had voted for Bangladesh, want to revise my poll prediction now..SL is really slipping.

Will probably be Sri Lanka. Bangladesh is actually a decent ODI team , it’s test and T20s they struggle with.

Sri Lanka may not just end up playing the qualifiers but might even struggle to qualify for the event itself. 10 team WC is a complete farce. There are 14 Competitive teams out there that deserve to be a part of the WC.

Other than Sri Lanka, West Indies may also find themselves playing the qualifier, Afghanistan in particular are a big threat to these teams for direct qualification and may sneak into top 8.

yes they have done well against SL at least. SL gambled with fresh faces so maybe we cut some slack.

This is why PAK didnt send youngsters to Zimbabwe, would have been left with egg on their face and a mountain to climb with defeat, won't be easy getting out of the qualifiers either

Pakistan has already lost an ODI in ICC Super League against Zimbabwe and there were no ODIs in Zimbabwe so your post does not make any sense.

My apologies, it should have read to SA against SA c team as many posters were calling for, the lessons wer elearned against zim at home.

SL & WI will play qualifiers.

SA will finish in top 8 unless Ireland beat BD 3-0, which seems very unlikely
