Excellence and influence in the previous English summer is the criteria.
Five players are selected.
It can be international cricket, domestic cricket or even women’s cricket.
No player can win the award twice.
No Pakistan player has won the award since 2007 – Mohammad Yousuf for his batting in the 2006 English season.
Mohammad Amir would have won the award in 2011 – for his performances in the 2010 English summer, but he was not named after what happened and no award was given and there were only four recipients that year.
Contenders
Misbah ul Haq
Aged 42.
Captain of Pakistan.
His first Test series in England.
Man of the Series.
Drawing the series as underdogs and the visiting Captain and taking his side to the top of the Test rankings shortly after the series conclusion, completing a remarkable six year journey to reach the summit. Restoring Pakistan's image, particularly in England after what happened in the same country six years previously.
Set the tone for the series with his century on the opening day of the series and backed up with first innings half centuries in Manchester and Birmingham.
Verdict: Nailed on to win it.
Yasir Shah
Spinning Pakistan to two Test victories.
But he had two quite Tests with the ball and got smashed in the one day series.
Verdict: He will probably get it.
Other Pakistan players

Hasn’t won it before.
Won’t get the chance to win it again probably.
Is one double hundred enough?

Consistent throughout the summer. 139, 38, 49 and 30* in the final two Tests. Two 80s in the ODI series.
