Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season is just a couple of days away, and the fans are expecting a thriller of an edition with two new teams joining the fray. Every team has managed to create a solid squad and every franchise has some solid match-winners in their ranks. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has however identified one franchise which will find it tough to win the competition this season due to "lack of impact player". However, he also said that due to this very fact, the Punjab Kings can surprise a few people as well in the tournament, but to see them go all the way this edition looks unlikely at the current stage.

"Punjab Kings is one of those teams that have not managed to win the IPL. This time, I don't think they have an impact player in their squad but this can benefit the team as well. When there are very low expectations, there is very less pressure and when the pressure is less, the players are freer in their approach," Gavaskar told Sports Tak.

"In that aspect, I think Punjab Kings can surprise a few. Will they win the trophy? I doubt that. See, this is a T20 format and you have to be in that consistent cycle of winning," he stated further.

At the mega auction, Punjab Kings bought the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan. The side also roped in experienced opening batter Shikhar Dhawan. This season, Punjab would be led by Mayank Agarwal.

The IPL 2022 will begin on March 26 with the tournament opener being played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Punjab Kings will open their campaign on March 27 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Punjab Kings Squad: Mayank Agarwal, Arshdeep Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Rahul Chahar, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Porel, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, Sandeep Sharma, Raj Angad Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Prerak Mankad, Vaibhav Arora, Writtick Chatterjee, Baltej Dhanda, Ansh Patel, Nathan Ellis, Atharva Taide, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Benny Howell.

Rajasthan Royals says Sanju Samson Twitter controversy was a prank

The team's popular Twitter admin was seemingly fired yesterday

It has been a baffling 24 hours for Twitter followers of IPL side Rajasthan Royals following an incident involving team captain Sanju Samson.

The Twitter admin of Royals is popular on the social media platform for the quirky content involving its players and the banter with other teams. But yesterday, after posting an edited picture of Samson, the player seemingly called out the admin of the official handle, saying that teams need to be professional.

The original edited picture was deleted and the team posted an official statement stating that it would be making changes to it approach to social media and a new team would be appointed to operate the various handles.

It caused confusion and shock on Twitter, some users suggesting that an issue like this should have been settled internally. But the team responded within a few hours with a comic video of the admin being ‘fired’ including the reaction of various players.

This morning, the handle posted another video of a ‘fake audition’ for a new admin, adding that yesterday’s events were part of a prank. The video features players like Yuzvendra Chahal and Shimron Hetmyer, and credits two popular cricket-related Twitter handles for their involvement in the prank—they had broken the news yesterday of the admin’s firing.

There is also some speculation that the videos and the elaborately orchestrated prank scenario were made up later on to cover up Samson’s genuine irritation with the original post of him.

Rajasthan Royals play their first match of the 2022 IPL on Tuesday against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The tournament begins today with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders.

Solid start KKR - laying down the marker!

Mumbai Police on Thursday said that no intelligence inputs or information have been received of any alleged terror threats to the upcoming IPL-2022 cricket matches scheduled in the city from March 26.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Latkar denied reports in some sections of media, that terror groups have carried out recce of the venues of the IPL matches or the hotels where the players are staying, posing grave risks to the tournament.

"We have made adequate security arrangements at the Hotel Trident, the Wankhede Stadium and the route between the two spots (around 1.5 km)," said DCP Latkar.

Certain media reports earlier in the day claimed that terror groups have conducted a recce of the hotel, the stadium and the route with plans to strike, but the Mumbai Police has officially clarified the status and ruled out such a possibility.

No ABD in IPL from this season.. That's a drop in quality and also the positive anxiety he brings for RCB fans when they lose couple of wickets.

Lucknow Super Giants have a balanced team with good local talent. They have a very good chance of winning the cup.
KKR and RCB also have good teams this year, but the stars are not in form. If they click together, one of these teams can win too.

I think GT seem like the team to beat. They have the right mixture and RK is even the captain now.

This probably might be the year for RCB. They aren't captained by Virat anymore and are captained by a player who has been part of multiple IPL title wins with CSK. They have also made some good choices with the squad and DK has been fantastic for them. So RCB or one of the two new teams. It will be good to have a winner who is not CSK or MI. I think the last time a team besides them won was in 2016.

Gujarat Titans look the best and again this team has got the best bowling attack and in batting, someone is coming in and winning games for them every game.

RCB has a much more balanced side this year. Not a single of the four main bowlers are bad. Then Shahbaz and Maxwell are fine options. Kohli's batting is a problem for them.

Lucknow has great team too but their captain is KL who already has made two mistakes by letting Stoinis bat too low at 7 and that costed them too games. Sadly, he didn't learner from first game loss.

Punjab, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai aren't winning either. Punjab same leadership problems.

RR and SRH have good chances though.

My teams would be GT, RCB, RR and SRH.

IPL 2022 has been extremely boring and most indians I know in real life have stopped watching. They are waiting for the international season to begin again.

Methinks the BCCI is killing the golden-egg goose that is the IPL by increasing the duration of the tournament.

You will now be declared a heretic and put on the stake for uttering such blasphemies.

Don't know about people stopped watching ipl but saying peoples are waiting to int'l cricket is absolute lie RexRex... Most of the time people (casual fans) don't even know there's a int'l cricket going on (even many times i realised there's a match going on only after visiting pp).. at least those people know there's an ipl match going on

Looks like there is going to be a brand new champion.

Surprised at Mumbai's performance this year.

Mumbai Indians doing a Karachi Kings so far.

Sunrisers Hyderabad fans should be happy and proud that they have got a magnificent leader in Kane who knows how to use his pace attack to the fullest. Nobody in the cricket World today uses his resources better than Kane. They should feel privileged that they have moved on from Warner obsession as a player is nothing without his team. Kane started off slow as it takes a bit to time for players to gell and get into that zone of competitiveness and since then he has been invincible even though they lost their only quality spinner due to injury.

When Rinku Singh walked out to bat at No 8, Kolkata Knight Riders had lost Andre Russell and needed 60 runs off 20 balls.

From that stage the never-say-die south paw brought it down to three runs off the final ball with his stunning 15-ball 40.

But Marcus Stonis nailed his yorker bowling to Umesh Yadav, helping Lucknow Super Giants steal a 2-run victory at the DY Patil stadium on Wednesday.

LSG this joined fellow newcomers Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.

With 18 points and a healthy run rate, they are even looking good to finish in the top two.

RCB ee sala cup namde

What does EE Sala Cup Namde mean?

This slogan was introduced to give that boost to RCB. 'Ee Sala Cup Namde' meaning this time around the cup is ours was a social media trend started by Kannada fans of RCB. The slogan started by the fans was later adopted by official social media handles of RCB too

My bet on Rajasthan Royals this season. RR to win the IPL this season and pay tribute to Shane Warne.

It’s also used to mock the Bangalore fans where they have been doing this for a decade.

And we are down to the final - Who will win - GT or RR?
