Yuzvendra Chahal has conceded 30 sixes in this season which is on the second spot in the list of conceding the most number of sixes in an IPL season ever.

Chahal once again fooled everyone and hopped onto Indian squad. Way too expensive for the wickets he gets. Offers nothing with the bat and in the field.
Even Ashwin is better than him. Indian WC squad is directionless with too many one trick ponies. Selectors are too timid.

off topic , that lady in KKR family box Shanaya Kapoor - she is sweet - got a thing for her .90/7 in 14

bechari Kavya . 90/8 in 15
Too much dependency on Abhishek/Head opening stand finally caught up with SRH.
You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

SRH reminds me of Indian team from 2015-present. If top 3 of Rohit, Dhawan/Gill/kL and Kohli fail, India will not even score 100 runs. Flawed teams.

Abhishek flopped in all pressure games. Now we know why Indian selectors didn't fall for him.

Bharat Arun the master bowling coach, deserves the credit for guiding the KKR attack, especially the inexperienced seamers.
He was also indian bowling coach when India won back to back test series in Australia

He should still be persisted. If he can bowl 2 or 3 overs, he should open with Jaiswal. A lottery at the top. If he clicks, India will win.
Rohit has pedigree. You need that more than the gamble as it's the World Cup, not a bilateral.

Innings Break

Kolkata Knight Riders' bowlers dominate, bowl out Sunrisers Hyderabad for just 113 in just 18.3 overs in the final.

In a long tournament like this, it's all about peaking at the right perfect time.

Gurbaz is trying to make the moment about him, lol. Nobody cares about his runs.

Gautam Gambhir's stock will go up. Won't be surprised to see him as India's next head coach. Forsee a potential ego clash b/w him and Kohli going fwd. Don't think its a good idea in principal for players who played alongside the present players to become coaches, a lot of old grudges will come out.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 wickets in the final of IPL 2024 to clinch their third title on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 114 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, KKR achieved victory in just 10.3 overs, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer's unbeaten 52 off 26 balls.

Earlier, KKR bowled SRH out for 113 runs after Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to field first. Mitchell Starc set the tone by dismissing SRH opener Abhishek Sharma in the first over, and KKR maintained control throughout the innings. The bowlers kept the pressure on, eventually dismissing SRH for a meager total in 18.3 overs.

Andre Russell was the standout bowler for KKR, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 19 in 2.3 overs.

Terrific bowling unit

Varun 21 wickets @19.14 ER 8.04
Russell 19 wickets @15.52 ER 10.05
Rana 19 wickets @20.15 ER 9.08
Narine 17 wickets @21.64 ER 6.69
Starc 17 wickets @26.11 ER 10.61

I think the best team won. SRH had a destructive batting line-up but were too hit or miss against some of the better bowling attacks. RR started off well but started losing momentum when it mattered most. RCB rode their momentum and played some good cricket but their team wasn't that well-balanced.

KKR had the perfect balance of young players, experienced pros. Their bowling and batting had enough depth. And the decision to blow all that money on Starc ended up being a good one too.

Why not? It's a sport. It's far bigger than the personal issues of two individuals. And just because they had issues in the past doesn't mean they will in the future too. Even if they don't like each other. That's what being a professional is all about.

'Old Mate Turned Up Again': Pat Cummins Reacts as SRH Gets Outplayed by KKR in IPL 2024 Final

Despite having a great track record as a captain, it was not their night as Pat Cummins’ SRH were outclassed by a dominant performance at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of the Indian Premier League 2024.

SRH’s batting which has grown to have a reputation for being explosive, was unable to get going thanks to the powerplay spell by Mitchell Starc which helped KKR set the tone and restrict the Sunrisers to just 113 with 9 balls to spare in the first innings.

Without a decent score on the board, it was smooth sailing for KKR as they marched on to their third title as they secured the win by 8 wickets.

Speaking at the post-match presentations, the SRH skipper gave due credit to the opposition for their dominant performance on the field. He revealed that they had tried to get some momentum in their favour but it did not turn out that way.

“They bowled fantastically. Old mate Starcy turned up again! Not enough tonight, totally outplayed. You hope you get some boundaries away but they bowled fantastically well and didn’t give us anything. Similar to how they bowled in Ahmedabad”.

Speaking on the conditions, Cummins reckoned that his side was about 40-50 runs short of a defendable score considering the track they were presented.

“It was a tricky wicket. If we got 160, we felt we would have been in the game”.

Reflecting on what has been a fantastic season for the Hyderabad unit, Cummins pointed out their explosive brand of batting which he praised and appreciated it as something that is not exactly as easy as it looks.

“So many (positives), the style with which the guys played especially with the bat. A lot of skills to get to 250 three times. I loved how brave the guys were. It was a lot of fun and a great season,” he concluded.

What you can learn from this is, you need to have best balance of Foreign players & budding local players (Indian international players take a backseat in IPL usually) KKR has Sunil Narine, Andre Russel, Phil Salt & Starc (Perfect mix of top quality bowler, top quality batsman, top quality pace alrounder, top quality spin alrounder - all areas covered) + local Indian players like Rinku Singh, Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, etc. (so-called captain Shreyas Iyer - seasoned Indian International Cricketer should'nt be given much credit, because put him in RCB team or Indian Team - he won't make any difference, in fact he will bring in negativity...)

So coach & management staff should be given the credit for selecting perfect teams/squad to bring out the right combination & balance. Even MI & CSK win cups in this way whenever they have the best balance... Teams like RCB, PBKS will continue to suffer as long as they rely on stars & random players to just make the numbers without working on combinations...

BCCI Secetary Jay Shah announces Rs 25 lakh prize money for groundsmen and curator of all IPL 2024 venues

The secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jay Shah has announced a massive prize money for the curators and groundstaff members of 10 main Indian Premier League (IPL) venues. Additionally, BCCI has also announced Rs 10 lakh prize money for venues that hosted only a couple of matches this season.

In his latest tweet, Jay Shah confirmed the development calling the pitch curators and groundstaffers 'unsung heroes' of IPL. He lauded them for providing best pitches and ground conditions throughout the cash-rich league that started on March 22 despite weather challenging them especially at the fag end of the edition.

"The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible ground staff who worked tirelessly to provide brilliant pitches, even in difficult weather conditions. As a token of our appreciation, the groundsmen and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive INR 25 lakhs each, and the same at the 3 additional venues will get INR 10 lakhs each. Thank you for your dedication and hard work! @IPL @BCCI," Jay Shah wrote in his tweet.

It was certainly a high-scoring IPL season this time around with the 200-run mark getting crossed a staggering 37 times. In fact, records tumbled this year with SRH smashing 287 runs in their 20 overs while Punjab Kings gunned down the highest total in the history of the tournament. They chased 262 runs against the eventual champions KKR to register highest successful chase.

However, none of the teams in IPL playoffs could cross 200 including the final that ended up being one-sided with SRH crumbling for just 113 runs after opting to bat first. It eventually turned out to be one-sided final with KKR chasing down the paltry target in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets in hand.

Hate this guy but well done.

Good step from Jay Shah to give some respect to the pitch makers. Not easy to keep up with the pace of making batting friendly pitches every game.

Gautam Gambhir hits back at Wasim Akram's 'Girgit' jibe, delivering a fiery response during a recent interview with a sports media platform:

"It is the job of the experts and there is nothing to feel bad about. Experts judge you on your daily performances. If you get out on zero, they will criticise you. If you score a century, these same people will praise you. That is why I want to say that what the experts say, what the social media says, what the crowd says - it does not matter. What the people say in your dressing room think about you is important. People will keep doing their jobs - some criticise more and some criticise less. It is their nature or thought process."

Lol the one who wrote that article seems like a MIL talking about a bahu

In an interaction with local bengali newspaper, Sourav Ganguly confirmed that Ricky Ponting will no longer remain the head coach from the upcoming season. He said that Ponting had no results to show in the 7 years that he was associated with the franchise and hence has to be let go.

As per reports:

The BCCI is set to meet with IPL franchise owners by July end to discuss key aspects of the 2025 season, including player retention, Right to Match (RTM) cards, and salary caps. Currently, each franchise has a purse of Rs 100 crore to buy players, with RTM cards not used since 2018. The meeting, likely to take place on July 30 or 31 at the Wankhede Stadium, aims to finalize the number of player retentions and salary caps. Franchises have differing opinions on player retentions, ranging from 4 to 8, but agree on increasing the salary cap, potentially by 20% to Rs 120 crore. This increase could see top retention players earning around Rs 20.5 crore, up from Rs 17 crore in the previous season.

Major Changes In Retentions Ahead Of IPL Auction? Report Makes Big Claim

The meeting between the BCCI and all ten IPL franchise owners is all set to take place on July 31, where the talk will be dominated by the number of retentions teams can make and the Right to Match (RTM) options in hand ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. A report by Cricbuzz says IPL CEO Hemang Amin sent text messages to the franchise owners on Thursday morning for the meeting on July 31, telling them that a formal invite with the venue and timing would follow. “Amin is understood to have also indicated that the meeting would occur in the late afternoon or evening on July 31. It is believed that all the owners have confirmed their availability for the meeting.”

“While the exact venue has not been confirmed, the congregation is expected to take place at the Cricket Centre, the BCCI headquarters, located within the Wankhede Stadium complex in Mumbai,” it added.

For the IPL 2018 Mega Auction, franchises were allowed to retain up to five players - three from the auction - and others by using the Right to Match (RTM) card. But the introduction of two new teams - Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants - in 2022 resulted in existing teams being allowed to retain four players, with no RTM card involved.

The report added that the number of retentions could be kept at either five or six by BCCI. “The reasoning behind limiting retentions is that a higher number could diminish the excitement of the auction. If each team were to retain up to eight players, the top 80 players from around the world and India would be out of the auction, making the whole auction process a lacklustre affair.”

“The Right To Match (RTM) option is a contentious issue that may be debated at the meeting, although it's likely that the BCCI has already made a decision on the matter,” it concluded.

Team purse spike, retentions main agenda during IPL Governing Council meeting

There could be a consensus about increasing the team purse up to Rs 120 crore and retentions up to six, including ‘Right To Match’ (RTM) options, during the IPL’s Governing Council’s meeting with the owners of all 10 franchises in Mumbai on Wednesday.

With a big auction scheduled at the end of this year, the modalities need to be set in order and five points will be on the agenda of the BCCI-team owners meeting where divergent views could emerge on some of the points. While BCCI won’t announce the rules and regulations on team building, the inputs from the owners will be taken into account.

The PTI spoke to multiple franchises and there was one aspect where everyone agreed that the current team purse of Rs 100 crore needs to be increased by at least 20 to 25 percent.

“I think that (increase of purse) is happening for sure. The standard increase should be anywhere between 20 to 25 percent and hence anything in the range of Rs 120 crore to 125 crore will be a fair deal. Most franchises would agree to it,” a senior official of one of the IPL franchises told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

However, the bigger issue is the player retention where it could be difficult to reach a common ground as most teams have different requirements. While one powerful franchise seemed to have suggested as many as eight retentions, including RTMs, it is unlikely others will agree to it.

Currently, IPL allows four retention per year with three being Indians and one overseas. It is believed that most teams want retention to be between five to six.

“Obviously, continuity and maintaining a core is very important going forward. May be allow six (retentions) including a couple of RTM cards with at least one uncapped player being kept in the mix. But there could be some debate over the number of overseas retentions.

“There are teams like Delhi Capitals (Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head), who would want more than one overseas retention,” an IPL source added.

The other bone of contention could be the ‘Impact Player’ rule and while India’s T20 World Cup winning skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli have both spoken openly about how it can affect the development of all-rounders, none of the franchises would mind a contest where 12 players will be available.

They are in the business of cricket and it is possibly BCCI’s duty to protect all-rounders, who are becoming rare because of this rule.

But then the counter argument by a franchise like Chennai Super Kings could be that the ‘Impact Player’ rule would allow their talisman Mahendra Singh Dhoni to continue for one more year.

If Impact Player rule is gone, Dhoni, who nowadays comes in at No. 8 can’t afford to do that and also have Shivam Dube in the playing XI without utilising his bowling which is cannon fodder for the batters.

IPL franchises likely to demand strict action against overseas cricketers due to this reason

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold a meeting with the owners of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises in Mumbai on Wednesday (31 July). The major topic of discussion will likely be defaulting foreign players for lacking respect and commitment towards the IPL auction process

Some of these players who lack commitments are Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga and all those who have withdrawn from the IPL on various occasions in the past and the main reason was because of low bid- have raised concerns of the IPL management. None-too-convincing reasons for their withdrawals have ranged from personal issues to injuries, leaving franchises less than pleased. The meeting will emphasize the need for corrective measures to address these issues and ensure player commitment. reported cricbuzz.

Apart from this the other topic will be Impact Player rule as the cricketing experts are favor of this rule.

“Yes, the good all-rounders – Axar, Jadeja and others – continued to find a way in the XI but more options meant someone like Washington Sundar hardly played in 2024. So overall development of players like Washington Sundar was certainly impacted but at the same time, coaches had more options to play with.

Like beefing up batting or strengthening bowling as per the game requirement. Whatever was happening, the spectators and viewers weren’t complaining because the match wasn’t over even when it was 50/4 or 200/3,” a franchise official told CricketNext.

Another major point of discussion will be the much-awaited retention rule and how many players a franchise can retain ahead of the mega auction of IPL 2025. There are reports that almost all franchises are reportedly in favour of raising retentions from three to five.

“The chatter will not stop because every team is in a different position before the 2025 season. Naturally, the ones who have done well want more and more retentions. But retentions undervalue the auction. And auction is an important part of the IPL ecosystem. In years to come, when the fan bases are well and truly cemented for all sides, it could well be a very transfer dominated ecosystem but as of now, auctions are important," a franchise offical said.
