To be honest, India are looking firm favourites.

I was hoping to see some spark in this Pakistan side but I am not seeing it!

India are obviously favorites. They are not just favorites to win this game but also the entire tournament.

But, Pakistan can also never be counted out.

Most people think our batting is the major concern, but imo the batting is fine. The biggest problem we have right now is that our 3 main bowlers get smashed out the park. We don’t have one pace bowler that can bowl with a low economy. Hassan Ali gets smashed with the new ball, Shaheen gets smashed at the death and Rauf will have 3 good overs but that 1 over will make his bowling figures look like a T20 score.

Pak scored 186 today in first inning. Against likes of Rabada and Nortje. What more you expect from them?

Your team is as good as any other team including India.

Bit cliched but, may the best team win.
Theres 2 or 3 factors like the toss, selections, dew in a one off game.

India will pummel pak. Pak seam attack all give away so many runs. Its a real weak point.

The WC curse will continue

As long as paks net r/r don’t take a beating thatl be a win in my book !!

India are clear favorites..In batting, Fakhar is the only threat to India..without him, pakistan will struggle to score 150..

I agree the Pakistan pace bowling could be a weakness as they have been slapped today and with Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim being the spin bowlers isn't great.

India should trounce this Pakistan side.

Pakistan will never beat India in a world Cup or T20 world Cup. Predict a 7 wicket win with Rauf conceding 50 off 3

It is India irrespective of pitch, toss and playing 11 from both the sides.

There is a massive difference between talent, thought process, planning, captaincy and execution between the two teams.

If India bats first, they gonna post 180-190 and Pakistan will comfortably loose it by 20-25 runs.

If Pakistan bats first, I don't seem them crossing 135 mark which India will win by 9 wickets.

Tough times ahead for Babar and co.

Sorry Pakistan fans but this will be a walk in the park for the Indian team.
Expecting a team with batters like Mohammed Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali, along with bowlers like Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf, to beat a very talented Indian side is extremely optimistic to put it gently!

It’s a T20 game. Pakistan has a fair chance of winning it. I am backing this Pakistani team to go all the way. This team has a right mix of old timers and youngsters.

We'll get smashed in all likelihood and we always seem to bottle it in a WC match no matter how good the team is. Problem this time, it's a poor side but here's hoping.

Pakistan should comfortably win this match as Dubai pitch suits their style of play

In T20s, any team can win. I want India to win, but I feel Pak will win.

win the toss win the match

As in bowl first? Pak batting second vs India in a WC match, we've all seen how that's turned out to be in the past lol.

It's like their arms and legs turn to jelly and they've just seen the bogeyman who happens to be the guy running into bowl.

Had it been a test or a ODI, I would have definitely backed India to win

But in a T20 game the result can go either way. It is a very unpredictable format.

Pointless poll this.

there is expected to be dew. Chasing will be much easier.

Ofcourse handling pressure is key whether you bowl or bat first. But if Pak win the toss and bat,it'll be a massive favour to India

I feel whosoever wins the toss should bat first, and batting first will have an uncanny advantage.

This being the biggest game, i hope, they will spare no expense on spraying chemicals etc to mitigate the dew.

If India didn’t have Rohit and Bumrah, Pak would have a chance. But it’s T20 and could be interesting.

Stars will have to align for Pakistani victory.
Seriously cannot see how India will not win easily with their class and lack of it in Pakistani ranks except for Babar and Fakhar. Pakistani bowling is ordinary, especially against India who will be able to play our spinners easily.

Even if half of Pakistan batsmen click, this itself is not a victory considering playing styles of Rizwan, Babar, Hafeez and Malik.

This line up is more beneficial chasing scores below 160.

All this negativity has got to stop.

I voted for a Pakistan win!

Just don't ask my why

It depends on the dew factor.

There is quite some humidity, so I would bowl first.

Our bowlers cannot execute their plans when they cannot grip the ball.

Similarly, bowling first and bowling well would mean that India's spinners become less favorable and they would need to find overs if we can apply pressure.

Varun Chakravarthy would become much more bearable if the ball is wet because his grip is quite unconventional.

Additionally, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur tend to be expensive, so this would be a good way to apply extra pressure on them.

Win the toss and bowl first would be my decision.

All this negativity has got to stop.

I think its more realism than negativity but am still backing Malik, Asif Ali and co. :ua

As much as I would love Pakistan to win? India looks impossible to beat. Would be amazing to see Pakistan to win

I don’t care if they beat us in the group stage, as long as we beat them in the Finals.

There’s no way England and Australia will make it out of the Super 12 stage. They’ll struggle against teams like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka due to their spinners.

Pakistan will end up playing West Indies in the SF and India in the Final.

Pakistan can win this to be honest. They probably have the fastest pace attack in the tournament, on par with Australia. High pace is important. Also some decent power hitting and plenty of experience in UAE conditions etc.

Salaam Cricket 2021 : Pakistan & Indian cricketers speak about their rivalries and upcoming game

Former India and Pakistan captains Sunil Gavaskar and Wasim Akram both felt that there will be no clear favourite between the two teams when they meet on October 24 in their opening match of the 2021 T20 World Cup.

While many have touted India to be favourites to win the match considering they have never lost to Pakistan in an ICC tournament, Gavaskar said that the nature of the T20 format is such that anything is possible.

"Nothing is too difficult in T20 cricket. In Test matches you can say stuff like the attack not being good enough or the pitches not being to a certain team's strengths but not for T20 cricket. So I don't look at either team as a favourite. The team that handles the pressure well on the day, the team that can control its mistakes, like no balls, can do well," Gavaskar said on Salaam Cricket 2021.

"We hear players saying they want to improve things that are in their control. No balls are in your control. First of all you are giving a run away, maybe you might even take a wicket," said the batting great, who was the first player to reach 10,000 runs in any format of international cricket.

Gavaskar took the example of Shimron Hetmyer being dismissed off a no-ball in the second qualifier of the recently concluded 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL).

"The other day we saw Shimron Hetmyer being dismissed off a no ball and then he came back and he ended up hitting two or three sixes. Catches will be dropped, batsmen can be dismissed to straight balls, that's all cricket, but the team that makes lesser mistakes like no-balls will win," said Gavaskar.

Akram said that T20 matches can be one in moments because of how short the format is.

"In T20s one spell, one innings or something like a run-out can change things. It's such a short format, there is not too much planning to be done. Pressure will be on both teams. India are a very big team but, on that day, the team that will wins is going to be the one that makes fewer mistakes," he said

Wasim Akram speaking at Salaam Cricket:

"Some new players were selected a few days before departure of the squad which shows lack of planning amongst selectors and we also had a change in top level management with a new Chairman Ramiz Raja coming in, so when this happens, there can be some confusion (double minds)"

"But now that the squad is finalized, I feel that presence of Shoaib Malik will have a (positive effect); If there is a situation where we lose 2 early wickets, then Hafeez and Malik can anchor - remember in T20 games, you cannot hit each ball for a 4 or 6 so you need to plan ahead"

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram played down the importance of history and head-to-head records between India and Pakistan at the World Cup, saying it will hardly matter to players from both sides. Speaking at Salaam Cricket 2021 in Dubai, Wasim Akram said it's only the job of a statistician to keep numbers in mind but players will be focused on the job in hand when they step out on the field in what always promises to be a hugely anticipated contest between the arch-rivals.

Akram's comments came ahead of India's T20 World Cup 2021 opener against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday. Having won both their warm-up matches, India will look to extend their perfect record against Pakistan in the showpiece event.

India and Pakistan last played bilateral cricket in 2012 but their meetings in ICC tournaments have garnered huge interest. India's record against Pakistan in the World Cups has become a talking point ahead of each of their meetings in showpiece events.

India have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in 50-over World Cups and a 5-0 record in the T20 World Cups. However, Akram highlighted that Pakistan have a better record against India in overall fixtures, especially in ODIs and Tests.

"I have done my homework. Yes, at the World Cups, we haven't beaten India but we have won more matches when we take into account the overall record. But yeah, I have played 5 World Cups but we haven't beaten India yet," Akram said.

"But when you head into a World Cup, you don't note these things. That's the job of a statistician. But as a player, it doesn't bother me or any Pakistan or Indian player as well.

"In the World Cups, every match matters. Every team is there to win the World Cup. Yes, the India-Pakistan game is very crucial. It's the biggest game of the tournament. Players are feeling a bit of pressure. But once the game starts, you get on with the game and you forget everything else. You start thinking about how to focus on the game," he added.

Controlled aggression very important: Akram

Akram conceded that emotions may run high during an India-Pakistan contest at the World Cup but stressed that it's important to showcase controlled aggression and stay in the contest to produce the right performance on the big day.

Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, two of the superstar batters going around, will go head to head as captains in a World Cup match for the first time and the expectations are already hitting the roof.

"Sunny bhai (Gavaskar) has said it right. You need to work hard but you also need to apply your mind. You need to be aggressive but controlled aggression is very important," Akram added.

Team India may be heading into the mega-clash against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup later this week but cricketer Ajinkya Rahane believes any team can win the contest on a given day as past records don't really matter when players are on the field.

India have never lost to Pakistan in the World Cup, with a 7-0 record in ODIs and 5-0 T20Is but Rahane is of the opinion that the head-to-head record will be of little consequence when Virat Kohli and Babar Azam lock horns with their respective teams in Dubai on October 24.

The Indian Test vice-captain opened up on the hype before India-Pakistan clashes and what goes on in the team dressing rooms during these rare but extremely popular cricket matches.

"Whenever we play against any team, the past records don't matter. We always focus on the present, our strategies, strengths, how the conditions are going to be etc. Media creates a bit of the hype whereas the dressing room remains quiet. Focus is always on how well we can do as a team on that particular day.

"Pakistan players have played quite a bit of cricket here in the UAE so they have an idea. But we also know how to adapt to these conditions as they aren't much different from India. Those who have played the IPL 2021 have an advantage here in the T20 World Cup," Rahane said on Salaam Cricket in Dubai.

"I'm sure India vs Pakistan match will be a good one. I'm obviously backing India to win the match but personally, I believe no team should be taken lightly. And I'm sure the Indian T20 team has as much respect for Pakistan as it has for any other team."

INDIAN TEAM SELECTION

Rahane went on to add that Indian cricket fans should not worry about the squad selection and just back the Men in Blue throughout the tournament.

"Questions over team selection will always be there. But I feel we should back our squad because all of them are quality players. If we show them our support from here in India then their morale will be boosted," Rahane said.

India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Salaam Cricket said that the margin of error in T20 Cricket is little and you are on your own when you are under pressure.

The veteran spinner recalls the 2007 World Cup Final against Pakistan; when Misbah-ul-Haq hit him for three sixes, he felt like he was bowling a 40-ball over.

“In the 2007 World Cup, when Misbah-ul-Haq hit me for three sixes, I just wanted to finish my over. It felt like I am bowling a 40-ball over for me because I was so much under pressure,” recalls Harbhajan Singh.

“What I feel is that when you are under the pump, you or on your own.”

“Yes, a captain can tell you, take it easy, should this bowl this delivery, but it is you who have to deliver, and if you are under tremendous pressure, you can’t execute it,” added Harbhajan.

Harbhajan said that in those crunch times, a player must tell himself that just relax because it is just a game.

“You will have to tell yourself that relax, it is just a game and enjoy. Take your time during the pressure situation, and it will work,” says Harbhajan.

For Indian players, the UAE has become like a second home in cricket terms, and they’re familiar with the slow nature of pitches. The second half of the T20 Indian Premier League was played at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, resuming last month after being suspended mid-year.

India will play their opening match against arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai on October 24

There will be nothing to talk about in 2040 when all of those who played regularly may not be healthy enough to recall the great days of the 80s to early 2008

very sad state of affairs

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh said Pakistan haven't produced batsmen who can score consistently in Test cricket. India face Pakistan in their opening match of the T20 World Cup on Sunday.

"There was a time when Pakistan had a very strong team and so did we and that led to some great competitions. In the last 10 years or so, Pakistan's level of cricket, in my opinion has gone down. No batsman seems to have arrived who makes me feel that they can score consistently in Test cricket," said Harbhajan on Salaam Cricket 2021.

"T20 is a format in which anyone can score runs. If I look back at maybe 1998, when Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in an innings, Pakistan had batsmen like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Salim Malik, they had bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Saqlain Mushtaq.

"Today it doesn't look Pakistan can compete with India because they have maybe one or two players of that level in their team. The teams that really push India are England or Australia," he said.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that the country's fall in the sport started when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allowed mediocrity to take hold.

"Our decline came when mediocrity came in our board. Average people thrive a lot in mediocrity. Mediocrity is the killer of Pakistan cricket, they kept bringing in average people, average leaders and we started declining. This has started since 2002. We had someone who played fast, he destroyed everything, then we had someone who played slow and he also destroyed everything. In the middle of all this we couldn't identify out hero. Maybe our hero should have been someone like Mohammad Yousuf.

"In your country Sachin (Tendulkar) became the hero, not someone who played fast. Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) followed him. We are trying to smash everything, not playing anything along the ground," he said.

Akhtar echoed PCB president Ramiz Raja's recent statements that the board has to stop depending on the ICC's funding.

"PCB has to run like a corporate and for that till how long can we be dependent on the ICC's funding. Till how long can we be dependent on playing India when they are not ready to play against you. You have to go into asset-building. First of all start your own broadcasting," he said.

Dubai, Oct 22: Former Pakistan captain, Younis Khan, believes that 2009 T20 world champions can finally get one up against India when the Babar Azam-led side face their old nemesis in the biggest stage of cricket on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

“From Pakistan point of view, I am hoping that 5-0 record in T20 World Cup will become 5-1. India-Pakistan is a high-pressure match and only those who are able to deliver in such scenarios go on to become legends of the game,” said Khan at a conclave organised by ABP News.

Khan, was in all praise for MS Dhoni as he is appointed as the mentor for the Virat Kohli-led team and believes it’s a big boost for the Indian team.

“When you have a player like MS Dhoni in the dressing room, as an opponent you always dread that. Even before in our games, Dhoni has been a big factor, he has the ability to calm the environment and in a high-pressure game that is a huge bonus. Dhoni has won many titles and as a mentor, he will be a huge plus for India in the World Cup,” Younis said.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir praised Indian skipper Virat Kohli by saying that he is aware of how to perform under pressure.

“Virat Kohli is a legend, the way he keeps performing all the time, it is just amazing. India Pakistan match is always high-pressure and. Virat knows how to deliver under pressure.”

The last time Pakistan faced India on the big stage, was in the ICC World Cup 2019 as Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side fell short by the D/L method.

Ahead of the mightiest clash in all of international cricket on Sunday (October 24), where Asian rivals India and Pakistan will go head to head in an ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 tie in Dubai, former Pakistani speed gun, Shoaib Akhtar has spoken out about the limited luck factor Indian captain Virat Kohli has enjoyed in major ICC tournaments so far.

Akhtar took a jibe at Team India's chances of winning the all-important match-up in Dubai by saying that the Men in Blue would be under more pressure than Pakistan's Men in Green during their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign opener. Rawalpindi Express further highlighted a host of factors in a bid to prove why Kohli-led India will be taking more heat.

While speaking on Salaam Cricket 2021, Akhtar said:

"There is a lot of pressure but it's less on Pakistan because first of all, the entire stadium is blue. That is yours. Your fans will be there, your broadcasters, we have no problems if we lose this," he opined.

The 46-year-old pace ace even joked that Pakistan would be more interested in beating New Zealand than India as the Blackcaps had left Pakistan minutes before the start of their tour of the country based on a security threat.

"Our real anger is with New Zealand. We will take it out on them, we have no issues with you," he said.

"On a serious note, I feel there is a lot at stake for India. If Pakistan bat first and make more than 180 runs then trust me, the pressure gets to the biggest of players. If India can handle that pressure better than Pakistan, that's fine, but what if Pakistan surprises you," added Akhtar.

Akhtar then weighed in on Kohli's captaincy record for India by saying that he does not seem to have luck on his side as a leader. The T20 World Cup will be Kohli's final assignment as captain of Team India in T20Is.

While Kohli has been the skipper in all formats since 2017, the superstar is yet to win an ICC trophy with India. However, he came super close on several occasions but it went vain as the Men in Blue lost to Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final and failed to beat New Zealand in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup and the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).

"Captain's luck is not favourable for Virat Kohli. I feel that Virat Kohli is such a great cricketer, a great guy, but somehow, as a captain, his luck is not striking. I hope it doesn't strike on the 24th," concluded Akhtar.

Honestly most of this talk is just banter rather than actual tactical awareness or logic.

Some of the stuff that is said is bizarre to say the least.

Did anyone notice how the host of this show is the same person who sits on tv and has discussions that should we play pakistan after what has happened in kashmir etc. They have some emotionally words and talks going around on those shows

And than he hosts this salam cricket and promotes the pak india encounter.

Just goes on to show even the ones that pretend to be against the match will be tuning in

I agree. Pakistani pacers don't have strong nerves and skill to come back once opposition batters start to smash them.

To be honest, India are looking firm favourites.

I was hoping to see some spark in this Pakistan side but I am not seeing it!

Definitely no Spark here, when you are forced to go back to Shoaib Malik. Haider Ali who was bought into the squad didn't get a chance in Practice matches. He should have batted instead of Babar (Babar did not need practice especially in the 2nd match) Babar should have only captained.

Nothing new was tried against south Africa and West Indies, Pakistan should used more spinners against SA but they didn't, just allowed them to chase down a decent total.

India has never lost a World Cup game to Pakistan in either the one-day or T20 formats. But Pakistan is unbeaten in six T20s at the stadium dating back to 2016.

Suresh Raina, who has been part of several India-Pakistan matches, said that even if players of both teams said that it is just another normal match, it isn’t, as there will be butterflies in the stomach.

Cricket is the same, but there will be pressure at the World Cup. And when it comes to India-Pakistan, definitely both teams will say that it’s just another normal game. But it won’t be normal. So there will be butterflies in the stomach,” Raina said on Salaam Cricket.

“You will be under pressure. But it will depend on who handles pressure better. The team that handles the pressure better will win the match,” he added.

Pakistan went close to beating India in the inaugural T20 World Cup final in South Africa in 2007, but eventually, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s lineup went on to win the game when Misbah-ul-Haq’s was caught at short fine leg off an extravagant paddle shot.

Raina said that handling pressure is very crucial in T20 cricket.

“The intent has to be the same. The processes are the same for T20 cricket too. But how you handle pressure matters a lot in this format,” said Raina.

The southpaw feels that the dew will play a deciding factor in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

“Dew can be a big factor in the UAE, but the spinners will get a lot of help. We have seen how the Sharjah pitch behaved. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are good pitches,” said Raina.

“But the weather is getting better. I have a feeling that if the batsman. Even in the IPL final, CSK scored 190 runs. So you have to see the ball and play it according to its merit,” he said.

New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar feels that the upcoming match against India is just not a match for Pakistan but much more than that. With no teams willing to travel to Pakistan to play cricket, Akhtar said that their kids hardly get to see any cricket, adding the match against India on Sunday will be a morale booster for the entire nation.

The 46-year-old along with former India batter Mohammad Kaif on Thursday appeared on the Zee News show ahead of the much-anticipated match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.

“Our kids can’t watch cricket. Then teams go away after coming. So the entire atmosphere gets very tense. So it is just not a match for us, it is a morale booster for Pakistan,” revealed a visibly emotional Akhtar.

Will India be able to survive the GreenStorm on the 24th?

With an explosive hitter like Fakhar at the top of the order and the fastest pace attack in the tournament, Pakistan look like a team on a mission to blow away opponents in familiar conditions.

The problem for India is that if they lose this match, they might lose confidence for the rest of the tournament and wash out without qualifying for the semis.

So, can India survive this GreenStorm or will Babar cement his legacy as the first Pakistani captain to beat India in a World Cup game? What do Ppers think?

Seriously. This is getting old. We all agree india is much stronger, no need to keep rubbing it in our faces.

As a fan i want pakistan to win but reality is opposite. How you can go with malik sarfraz and hafeez after investing so much in young blood? Anyhow i hope it will be a thriller.

Fakhar is extremely dangerous and Bobby is the #1 T20 batsman in the world. As far as fastest pace attack, I cant think of another trio in which all can clock 145 +.

I think for the first time in 3-4 decades, Pakistan is going to defeat India. Should I say congrats in advance to Pakistan?

Separate note - thanks for this thread Nikhil

Pakistan is definitely the favourites due to home conditions but if Indian wins, it won’t be an upset!

Another sarcastic thread from our Indian bro. Deep inside they know India will murder us on Sunday.
