What's new

Which win was bigger? West Indies against England or Bangladesh against Australia?

West Indies win.

Victory against a very strong side away from home.

Bangladesh win is not really an upset in Bangladesh against a side that has struggled badly in Asia.

WI

As Bangla have been on rise and was expecting them AU's who are mediocre anywsy

WI, by some margin.

Apart from "expectation", from respective winners, this was won after a thrashing last week to a level that Root actually declared with a relative easy target & enough time to just bat through & win. I think, if Poms had slightest of concern that WI can chase this, they could have blocked for another 35 minutes & take the game out of reach.

For us, I am actually quite disappointed with the margin after winning the toss and truth is Aussies eventually reduced gap on 1st innings deficit on such a wicket. No credit taken off, but if we don't improve our performance significantly in 2nd Test, Aussies will hit back hard.

WI win

They lost the first match. No one gave them a chance but they took it with both hands

Let's see, windies beat england away, after being set a target of over 300 while bangladesh barely scrapped through to a win at home. I wonder which was a bigger win:kp

Windies chased down 320+ at Headingley with overcast throughout the day on a worn down pitch. It hasn't been done since 1948.

The magnitude of this win hasn't really sunk in to most people's head. It was a phenomenal victory that broke numerous records.

West Indies win was way bigger. They were expected to go down tamely in this test. They chased scoring more than 300 runs on the fifth day of a test in England against England. Chasing such a big total in the fourth innings against a good bowling attack is extremely creditable.

WI.

Day 5 wicket, overs limited, English wicket and that too against England. Unexpected.

Bangladesh one was well against an Australia side known to suck against spin, but by saying Bangladeshs win was bigger means that you are degrading Bangladesh.

You knew Bangaldesh would win if its spin attack worked. WEst indies couldnt be expected to win even in the last 10 overs.

I reckon West Indies, largely because it was away from home and on the back of a huge defeat.

Bangladesh. They have hardly won any test matches. Winning a test in England is not that big a deal to be honest.

I agree that it was West Indies who achieved the greater feat, particularly after their performance in the opening game and the massive overnight improvement, but let us not take away from a fantastic win for Bangladesh as well, who are becoming a genuine Test-playing nation now.

Not even a question. West Indies.

Bangladesh are at home and were expected to have an even match, if not win.

This (WI) win is easily the greatest upset in cricket, since the epic Kolkata test, having said that the ease with which WI chased the target down is nothing short of unreal, especially in this day & age of DRS & floodlit tests!

WI against England. Two main reason :

1. Win away is always better than win at home
2. Scored large total while chasing rather than defending on a turning track.

it has to be Windies
1. Beating England away from home. Not many teams could do it.
2. Remarkable comeback after the beating they got in 1st test

on the other hand,
Bangladesh defeated Australia at home in favourable conditions.

Both are good achievements, however Windies one id rate better.

West Indies' feat was a huge one. One of the greatest chases/Test wins of all time.

Bangladesh beating Australia on a turner wasn't something unexpected, to be honest. Aussies can't play spin for their lives.

I agree. No one would have predicted West Indies would beat England but many people were open to the fact Bangladesh had a chance of beating Australia. West Indies also lost the toss which is another thing that went against them but they still overcame the odds to win. However, Bangladesh's win would be more historical

It's a big deal for a team like WI. WI has won like 2 tests outside WI in 10-15 years.

WI because no one gives them a chance, whereas BD had a chance due to Asian conditions and Aus's scars from the SL Test series whitewash. WI thoroughly deserved that Test win and is also a historical one...

So the only solitary vote for BD came from an Englishman. :)

Are we playing mind games even in a public forum? Ashes are still few weeks ahead.
