Donald Trump’s promise to a foreign leader so troubled an official in the US intelligence community that it prompted the person to file a whistleblower complaint – a revelation late on Wednesday that is causing alarm among legal and political observers.

Two former officials familiar with the matter said it was not immediately clear which foreign leader Trump was speaking with or what he pledged to deliver, Washington Post reported. The communication was a phone call, one former official said, according to the Post.

But the acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, has refused to share details about the complaint with lawmakers, the paper reported. Maguire has defended his refusal by asserting that the subject of the complaint is beyond his jurisdiction, it said.

Who was the world leader ?

He spoke to Vladimir Putin on 31 July and received two letters from Kim Jong-un over the summer. Trump also met the Emir of Qatar, the prime minister of Pakistan and the leader of the Netherlands in July.

Imagine if he promised Pakistan Kashmir will be theirs as soon as he can get some troops moving.

So Trump asked for $391m in aid to Ukraine to be withheld a week before a phone call to Ukraine's President where he asked for dirt on Joe Biden's son who works for a Ukrainian company.

I'm no fan of Biden but his son was cleared of any wrongdoing in Ukraine.

This is Richard Nixon levels of dirty tricks and it's time this traitor is impeached.

Trump keeps giving different reasons as to why he withheld the aid to Ukraine.

He first said he did so because he didn't want to give money to a corrupt country. Then he says he wanted US allies to pitch in. Yet his chief of staff claimed in July the President withheld the money because he was concerned about the very necessity of the aid !

President Zelensky himself directly told Sen Chris Murphy that he feared the aid was being cut off due to his reluctance to investigate Hunter Biden.

Trump is known for doing this, he even went after Jeff Bezos and leaked his affair to his wife and the press.

Funny thing is that the EU gives much more aid to Ukraine then the US does

Impeachment proceedings have officially started. It has been a whirlwind few hours here, and what is surprising is the swiftness with which things have suddenly fallen into place. Nancy Pelosi is a seasoned, astute leader who had resisted taking this step for months now, and as late as this morning, nothing suggested this was about to change. What is even more surprising is that the Senate, including all the Republicans, have voted to ask the White House to send the whistleblower complaint to the relevant committees. This suggests something major is going to be revealed in a day or so. Trump suddenly decided to release the transcript of the call tomorrow, perhaps to deflect attention away from what is to happen.

We live in interesting times.

Turns out that Trump called Pelosi today, despite his copious engaments at the UN, and offered to work on gun control. Sounds desperate.

Would be amazing not only if Trump gets impeached but takes Biden down with him :)) , unless that means Mike Pence would run :/

What happened to the Mueller investigation, didnt that prove that Trump was a Russian spy.

The latest is that the White House has now agreed to release the whistleblower complaint to the relevant committees, after stonewalling for a week. I’m not sure what to make of all this: it just seems too easy all of a sudden.

Its all politics, by stonewalling it ramps up the rhetoric by the dems making the fall bigger when it turns out there is nothing there. Why do you think Trump is urging the dems to impeach him.

That’s the unstated fear. Here’s to hoping otherwise.

With Trump derangement syndrome rife its easy to lead left wing loonies into traps which Trump seems to enjoy. Some of the reports coming out about the whistleblower make for an interesting outcome. The Dems have put themselves into a precarious position just like they did with the Mueller investigation. To me it looks like Trump is playing them like a fiddle.

Where did you hear this ? . I have a hunch that the Dems are walking into a trap .They started impeachment proceedings on a barely week old story about a call that they haven't even heard yet . I think they moved to hastily on this . Trump releasing the transcript and senate unanimously voting to release it sounds too suspicious .

MSNBC or CNBC, I forget which.

That’s the fear, isn’t it: what if the transcript tomorrow turns out to be benign? Then they’ll have to hope the whistleblower complaint has substance. If it doesn’t, they’re left with egg on their faces.

That said, Pelosi has played it smart too. She has authorized an impeachment “query,” not a full-fledged impeachment process as of yet. It gives the Dems a way out.

Dems should've went impeachment route right after Muller report . There were enough bead crumbs there to follow. I feel that they have been weak and lacked a backbone. So Far Trump wins 2020 by a landslide. The dems do not have leader that can challenge him .

The dems cant let it lie now, they have to push on even if they have been fooled again. Pelosi has been forced into this.

Let’s see. Hope springs eternal and all that jazz.

The idea would be to damage him enough through these impeachment proceedings. It’s not like twenty Senate Republicans are going to break ranks and vote for removal as things stand. But what if there’s substance in the complaint, impeachment is warranted, and the Senate Republicans don’t vote for removal simply out of partisan reasons and not wanting to antagonize the trailer park trash crowd? That may play well with the swing voters and the suburbs as far as Democratic prospects go.

Yeah , the timing of it is very interesting . I suspect they they will drag this along as close to nov 2020 as they can. The final impeachment vote being held somewhere close to the next elections. This is turning out to be some seriously good reality TV.
