India suffered a narrow 22-run defeat in the 3rd Test at Lord’s despite being in control for large parts of the match. While England's bowlers deserve credit for a spirited comeback questions are now being raised about India’s tactics, batting collapse, and possible selection blunders. So, who should shoulder the blame for this loss?

For me, it was the top-order batters who lost this match. All they had to do was survive that one hour closing session on Day 4 but poor defense led to their dismissals. They are the reason for this defeat.

Indian hubris is the biggest reason. :inti

I don't see them winning a Test series in a SENA country anytime soon. They no longer have Pujara, Kohli, and Rohit. New guys aren't as good.

Selfish run out. India dominated the game in all 3 tests most of the time. Moment of madness, tail collapse in 3 or 4 overs led to this result. IN the final test they ended up facing an uncomfortable last hour of play on day 4 where they were in a lose-lose situation. India missed a no.3 like Rahul Dravid who would have seen off the day. Next morning everyone would have played without pressure. Anyway the shellacking we gave England in the 2nd test give some hope. India can play Kuldeep yadav. Didn't expect much from this newly formed team. But they played way better than expected

Saw the meltdown on Twitter and by God we are a bunch of sore losers aren't we? From badmouthing the English to engaging in conspiracy theories, Indian fans have completely lost it.
I for one am glad that we lost this test match. Indian fans had it coming. Worst set of fans in the world with a sense of entitlement that makes even MAGA fanbase looks like a group of sane people.

Pant,s run out was crucial.Players should understand team is important than few individuals. Kl dropping smith also gave eng additional 80 runs. Our Bowlers should give more respect to their wickets.Jurel missing out byes left and right was not good. This tour reminded me lot of 2014 aus tour .young team missed crucial chances and wasn't able to win or draw that series.kuldeep should be in to negate the opposition lower order and ftbs.ball going soft after 15 overs does not help pacers . no need of 3rd pacer at this rate especially if bumrah is not there.

Most twitter accounts are going to do things for reach. Because that is where they make money. I wouldn't pay attention to twitter messages as it is a cesspool.

On top of it, lots of bots, fake accounts are in play.we should only consider if its a verified account in twitter

The irony of indians talking about cesspools, fake accounts and bots.

LMAO. Yeah.

They are like #1 when it comes to fake news/misinformation/disinformation/fake accounts.

Pot calling the kettle black. :yk
1) Spent millions of dollars on multiple bollywood Biopics that fabricated information and even made Wikipedia change its views.

2) Spent money to ensure cricinfo possibly the largest cricket scoreboard site in the world becomes a front for indian propaganda such as Mcgrath vs Sachin ever being a rivalry by effectively removing the comment section.

3) Spamming twitter threads from unverified users to spread fake info when Pakistan and India were recently at war and even covering up drone attacks and murders yet currently are claiming that twitter is now fake to support their agenda.

4) Burned down an entire stadium and rigged every pitch in a world cup

5) hides behind the excuse of terrorism not being the reason to play CT in Pakistan despite them being ranked just a few numbers below on the terrorism index themsleves and volume wise housing more terrorists, Serial killers and other nonsense that possibly any country ever could.

6) Are now spreading further propaganda about Scott Boland and Starc due to pink ball tests since Bumrah stat padding atory is being exposed day by day

7) Crafted narratives around multiple cricketers in order to

A) Potray Sachin = Bradman
B) Bumrah > Marshall
C) Laxman = Crises Man
D) Jadeja = Imran Khan and Stuart Broad
E) Pant = Gilly

8) Can't make a single argument without bringing up Pak/Bangladesh as they don't have any other standing point

9) Spread cheating narratives (some of which tbf are true) against western countries yet denied or created agenda's when it came to their own players making another bollywood movies to fabricate yet another lie to save Azhar.

10) Spread wasting time propaganda around Crawley but ignored Gill getting a bloody massage and threatening others with an effeminate aunty voice on PP.

I'm going to stop here as I have like 50+ points of onslaught upon onslaught.

Match ke Mujrim.....

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubhaman Gill.

2) 32 extras given in England's 2nd inning

Gill's issue was riling them up. I won't blame him for failure in the 2nd innings. It was end of the day. He was caught in two minds. A reason why top 2 bastmen needed to see off that session without allowing others to face in a tricky period.

India's batting cost them this game... Pant's run out in first inning was crucial... Some fielding mishaps..

I would say that IT WAS A TEAM EFFORT...lol

If you wanna know who flunked it, it was 100% Bumrah.

Trolls aside, all he had to do was block.

Siraj cant bat at all, Bumrah cant bat but can defend. He gave his wicket away.

Jadeja who i hate humbled me and played an atg innings, and This so called no 1 atg denied him that.

When Jadeja was batting for once in my life I wouldnt have minded india winning as it would have been a goat innings but the goat knows how to mess it up.

Gill and Jaiswal are up for blame and so does KL Rahul, who despite scoring runs finds a way to put his team in trouble.

Reddy should have been given a reality check too.

Indian captain deserves quite a fair bit of blame.

Run out of pant by KL was another turning point , india would have taken 70-100 runs leads :kp
Oh yes, the classic "would have, should have" routine. Sure, and England totally would have taken a massive lead if Brook and Root had just decided to stick around forever. :yk :inti

Of course, the batting. No excuse when you can't chase a target below 200. Every specialist batsman in the team including Pant should be ashamed.

Gill deserves a lot of blame too. Did nothing with bat in both innings. No guts shown and made a fool of himself by doing all talks.

I fancied England to defend their total even though 190 was a bit of a disappointing return with the bat. It’s always interesting to see what a bit of genuine pressure, final innings scenario and new ball spice does to some players. Gill was batting like a tail ender against Brydon Carse in that short innings, totally paralysed by nerves.

GUYS PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC

READ THE TOPIC... IT IS ABOUT INDIA'S DEFEAT... NOT TWITTER.

India had done the vast majority of the hard work. Chasing 190 odd wasn't going to be easy but it wasn't insurmountable either.

They did very well to get close but the top order batting seriously let them down in the last innings.

In particular Jaiswals shot. He just threw away his wickets. Archer followed it up with a very poor spell but the damage had already been done. Had Jaiswal applied himself more, coupled with Archers poor initial spell and the game could have been set up differently.

Jaiswal wanted to play Bazball and win the test within first 10 overs, after that wicket it was quite clear that it’s gonna be very hard for us.

Now ik why people like Jaiswal.

You guys are obsessed with stats over impact and live on cricinfo which is what most people do for Sachin.

1) Kl Rahul is the reason
2) dropped catches again
Catches win matches. Guess who dropped smith? See above lel and root dropped by gill
3) lastly I would say Karun nair

Put any half decent bat from Indian domestics and he would have done way better than this trash

Jaiswal needs to be booted out. He needs to learn how to use his brain.

Go back to basics.

Can’t catch or throw the ball for runouts either
Cost us 2 wickets

He is a FTB as of now. Needs to become man enough to weather the storm.

Sunil Gavaskar on India's loss at Lord's and the upcoming Test:

"You should get some cricket. You are playing for India. You are not here for a cruise or something like that."

"Even Kuldeep Yadav. Suddenly, you want them in the team. With what practice you want them in the team?"

"A partnership of 60-70 would have made a difference. India never got that."

Gautam Gambhir has sucked the life from this team and has spread his negativity, politics, insecurity and psycho behaviour everywhere

@Mamoon @mominsaigol
Obviously, he's the biggest reason amd should be kicked out ASAP.

But no one will admit it as everyone is living on cloud 9. The team is okayish, The talent is their.

The strategy is hilarious bad.

The cringe aggression from India, they have a sense of pride that is misplaced. What’s got into them?

It began in the Kohli era but it’s very unconvincing.
Kohli's aggression was genuine. This aggression is cringe wwe copycat levels of bad.

@Bhaijaan

I'll tell you why the strategy is bad.

A) For starters he has marketed Bumrah as the lead ace rather then marketing his team as a fierce unstoppable bowling unit.

The reason why pacers do better without Bumrah is because without your main ace their is extra pressure to prove yourself while with Bumrah its expected that you give way to your ace star.

This nonsense mentality is ghambir and ghambir and ghambir alone due to his obsession with convincing Indian fans that Bumrah is the 2nd coming of Marshall.

When bowlers fail his twitter propaganda is to blame the fielders and bowlers for not supporting Bumrah rather then portraying it as a team failure or a team success.

B) He is clueless about his team's fielding strengths. Hence the drop catches. Imagine giving jaiswal an entire BGT and 2 matches vs england the slip position before finally realising that he needs to be given the easiest catching position in tests from now on. Even then rather then putting him at the boundary line he insists on keeping him in the inner circle and Jadeja at the boundary line.

What is your best fielder doing at the boundary line? Jadeja is known for causing run outs 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.

C) He and by extension gill himself have another weird obsession of marketing Gill as Prince now that the king is gone.

They both have completly different personalities. Gill isnt kohli, he has a female voice and feminine looks. He is more akin to a softie like dravid personality wise and hence should focus on batting.

I agree gill at no 4 is the correct decison by Ghambir didn't make that decison due to Gill not having the footwork to handle the new ball early on.

He did it to mimick kohli which distracts Gill from his agenda. Not to mention its too early to make gill captain. Show some spine and make Bumrah captain and sheryas iyer vc so that iyer can captain in the games Bumrah has to sit out.

D) Brainless decisons upon brainless decisons. Who told this clown that Krishna is a good bowler? You're telling me Krishna is the best of the lot in a country with 1.4B revenue and a 250B revenue board? Get out of here.

Whenever I see Gambhr on the screen during this series i remember this commentary

need to bring the uncles back into the comm box.

Respect his contributions in some high profile matches. But what a sad psychotic guy. Someone who when enters a room sucks the life from it. Why is he so hard on himself and everyone? He must understand most (99%) people cannot operate in such a demanding hyper environment he creates.

I loved Shastri’s presence in the dressing room when many people were he critics. He is about playing hard but he’s also about being fun. You have to maintain that balance.

Anil Kumble’s little stint as coach also didn’t work because he too was a very intense serious kind of character

In an environment like India where players are already operating under extreme external pressure and there is numerous off field distractions you need a motivator type of coach not a headmaster.

Lmao gill part is spot on

Feminine voice and looks like a girl hahaah
But harsh but true.

Look I will say the talent is there. Definitely.

Very tight games and they played well. Could have won this test easily

But our batters have some mental issues.

190 is a paltry score

Even weak teams like w indies and Lanka chase this with ease.

India is the only country along with nz at times that struggle so badly to chase sub 200 scores in second innings

Coaching is definitely a major issue. No doubt about it. Gambir was never a good test player and that’s why I prefer seperate captain for red ball and white ball

In an environment like India where players are already operating under extreme external pressure and there is numerous off field distractions you need a motivator type of coach not a headmaster.

For Indian team where players are dealing with so much stress, a coach must be a part time friend, manager, motivator and life coach.

This is why Cummins when he became captain did some political workings to quickly get rid of Langer, whom the senior players in the Australian dressing room felt had become a power crazed gnome and way too intense.

Shastri picks two key moments in India's Lord’s defeat

Ravi Shastri discussed on The ICC Review the moments that stood out in India’s narrow defeat on Day 5 of the third Test.

The third Test at Lord’s was a fiercely contested battle between England and India, with little separating the two sides for most of the match. But in the end, it was the hosts that edged ahead to seal a hard-fought victory.

England’s bowlers, led by Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes, triggered a dramatic collapse in the final session of Day 4 and the opening session of Day 5 to bowl India out for 170 in pursuit of 193, despite a valiant fightback from ICC No.1 ranked Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

In a gripping Test that swung back and forth, Shastri pointed to the key moments that tilted the balance in England’s favour, just when India seemed to have had the upper hand.

“The turning point for me in this Test match was, first of all, Rishabh Pant's dismissal [in the first innings],” Ravi Shastri told Sanjana Ganesan, speaking on the latest edition of The ICC Review.

“Ben Stokes, simply outstanding presence of mind to hit at the right end and pull it off on the stroke of lunch. Because India would have got a lead and they were in the driver's seat.”

India vice-captain Pant was cruising on 74 before stunning fielding from Stokes sent the southpaw back to the dressing room on the brink of lunch on Day 3.

“Having said that, again at 40/1 [in the second innings], I thought that was a huge lapse in concentration from Karun Nair to leave a straight ball, a nothing ball, to leave it and open the door for England. I thought that the timing of that dismissal turned things around,” said Shastri.

“Because you saw when Siraj batted, when Bumrah batted, when Jadeja was batting, once the ball was 40 overs old, they hardly put a foot wrong.

“They were solid in defence and to bring that target down at lunch, 82 to get, you thought in the next 10 minutes it would be done and dusted. But to bring that 82 or 83 to 22 was a massive achievement.

“So it just goes to show that [if] the top order had just been a little tougher and mentally stronger on Day 4, towards the end, this game would have been India's.”

Shastri believes that while India were on top at stages of the match, England were due credit for grabbing their opportunities when it mattered.

“You have to compliment England,” he said. “When the going got tough, those moments they seized. And when they saw an opening in the door, they just banged their door down.

“There was hardly anything in that surface, and if you had lost two wickets less the previous day I think India would have chased that down.”

The Lord’s Test was a classic, with both sides posting identical first-innings scores of 387 before Washington Sundar’s four-wicket heroics with the ball on Day 4 bundled out England for 192.

Shastri drew comparisons to India’s thrilling win the last time at the same venue in 2021, when was the head coach at the time.

“It reminded me so much of the Test match in 2021,” he said. “Only on that occasion, it was India who batted first. Scorelines were very similar, 300, 300 and then a collapse in the second innings. At that time, India won. This time it was England.

“But a fascinating series and two more to go. Anything can happen. India can bounce back straight away and if that happens, The Oval [final Test] will be a thriller.

“Fifteen days in the series, it's been riveting stuff. And at times, I think India could have been 3-0 up. A little bit of luck, India could have been 3-0 up.”

Stokes and England continued their special love affair with 14 July and Lord’s, the scene of their unforgettable 2019 World Cup win.

The England skipper bowled 24 overs in England’s final innings with the ball, delivering two breathtaking spells on either side of lunch on the final day.

Shastri gushed in praise of the England skipper for his relentless work ethic that fetched him three big wickets.

“Stokes bowling those spells, I knew something was coming at Edgbaston because he had something back there,” Shastri noted.

“He wanted fuel in the tank for Lord's and he showed it on the last day. Eight overs, nine-over spells. At one stage, 10 overs towards the end to clinch it for England.”

The teams now head to Manchester for the fourth clash in the five-match ICC World Test Championship series, with England leading 2-1.

ICC

Anil Kumble criticises Ravindra Jadeja’s tactics in India’s narrow loss at Lord’s, he said:

“If anyone had to take the risk, it should have been Jadeja, not Siraj, exposing the tailender to Bashir at such a crucial juncture was a tactical error.”

“Jadeja had the tools to counter them. He could’ve gone after Bashir, Root, or Woakes earlier and shifted the momentum,”

“Every match has gone down to the wire. This is a great advertisement for Test cricket. It’s alive, and it’s thriving,”

And please stop talking about Pants run out.

The guy scored b2b centuries in the 1st Test match and India still lost.

What's to say had Pant not been run out then England had not gone into Bazball mode? Or even India would have collapsed? You lot make the mistake thinking if an event didn't occur or changed, then the rest of the game would play out as it did. This is horse pukky.

Each event in a match is a consequence of the previous event. If Pant had not been run out, there is not a soul on Earth who can say for certain how the game would've panned out cos the dynamics and England's response as a result would also change. Then you're back into prediction territory.

India lost for the same reason they've been losing for yonks - they have a politician stooge running the BCCI who believes money can buy wins. Heck, BCCI rigged the 23 WC at home and still couldn't win.

Go figure.

I think tail-enders were also exposed a bit too much. When you are well set, you need to finish the game. Jadeja was playing an all-time great knock in that chase but he faltered in the end and it cost them the game. Bowling was also underwhelming.

Bruv are you ok? You need a hug?

After playing over 20 tests, one should start reading the game situation much better and curb their instincts at crucial stages. Jaiswal is still the "young generational talent" when he should be putting a lot higher price on his wicket. Same for Gill. Even though Gill did fantastically in the previous 2 tests so 1 off test is okayish maybe. Yet he too should be in his peak right now as a batter. 35 tests are a lot to still be figuring out the game. In contrast, Kohli had started coming to his own after 15-20 tests. Same with Pujara and Rahane.
The sooner they get rid of Nair the better. The guy adds literally nothing. Atleast get a stonewaller at no.3 to blunt the new ball and tire the bowlers. Maybe Easwaran can be able to do that job. Apart from Akash Deep and Bumrah, Indian bowling is very mediocre. Siraj just blows hot and cold.

Jaddu batted like he never had any confidence in his own abilities to go for runs except that one big shot. It was inevitable that tailenders facing 2 or 3 balls every over would eventually lead to their wicket.

Yeah, this ploy is OK for 2nd or 3rd innings, when there is huge deficit... Not in the 4th innings where target is clear and lots of overs to play...

Primarily the 82/7 , fully knowing 193 to chase , ball goes soft after 30 overs , plenty of time ... had they been just a bit like 5% better & a bit more smarter , they would have been 2-0 with 1st Test drawn !
