Who has been Pakistan's best Head Coach so far?

Bob woolmer is grossly over rated. We werre terrible in the champions trophy, and one of the reasons why we got kicked out of the world cup was because of him.

His death saved him from criticism.

A sign of a good coach is when the players keep raving about him years and years after his exit. If you ask the Pakistani players who was the best coach they were with, all of them from Afridi, Malik, Yousaf, Younis, Inzamam, Kamran Akmal and co will say Woolmer.

Woolmer actually privately behind the scenes wanted to continue with Pakistan after the 2007 WC but wanted more power and say in selection once Inzi retired but unfortunately that never came.

Too early to say anything about Mickey Arthur, but he is making all the right moves, setting in standards and bringing in a high class performance structure (even if he is not applying it impartially at the moment). Will only be able to judge Arthur wholeheartedly once he finishes his tenure. Pakistan needs atleast 10 years of Mickey Arthur's influence.

Doesnt matter what woolmer wanted. Pcb were gonna send woolmer and inzi packing after the 2007 world cup.

People hated inzi in 2007 and woolmer was also getting abused in the pakistani quaters. People didnt care about winning odis or test, icc tournaments matter to them.

The top sides show consistency in bilateral series across all formats and the last time we did so was under Bob. In Tests we defeated Ashes winning England and India in 2005/06, drew away in India with a depleted attack, and beat a strong Sri Lanka with Sanga, Mahela and Murali still around away in 2006. The last team we won a Test in South Africa was under Bob.

Current ODI team could only dream of beating India away (that too from 2-0 down), beating England at home and drawing away, again defeating a strong Sri Lanka team away and being ranked 2nd.

Bob got the best out of so many players that underachieved prior to then such as Younis, Yousuf, Inzamam, Afridi, Malik, and Razzaq. Butt and Kamran had their best years under him, while even getting the best out of limited bowlers like Rana Naved and Rao Iftikhar.
The tragedy was ICC tournaments which he never cracked.

Shoaib akhtar and m asif missing the wc 2007 was a huge blow. No way Ireland amd WI would be able to handle those 2.

The only achievement was winning the Champions Trophy. After that we lost 5-0 in NZ, lost 3-2 in South Africa, lost 5-0 (many players were rested but 5-0 is pathetic). I don't see how the performance of the team overall was so great that people would vote him best coach.

I don't think Pak were the finished article, I feel substantial groundwork had been laid to build on adequately; I can't remember the last time Pakistan consistently posted 300+ totals, won a trophy in the 50 over format and had a good World Cup overall, I agree in between they may not have done so well in bilateral series though, but there was a good core group of players, some structure / professionalism and potential for improvement in line with the modern demands. Under Misbah Pakistan will go back to square one, with the best coach comment I agree with you that is a bit far fetched though; don't think Pak have had a better coach then Woolmer, however he did have much better resources although he was able to get more out of the bits and pieces cricketers who otherwise would be largely inconsistent like Afridi as an example.

Agreed. We may have lost some matches but at least the games were watchable. We were an exciting team, and you could see the flair with guys like Babar, Hasan Ali (pre injury) Amir, now we are going back into the brand of slow defensive cricket.

Green top was an excuse. Our batting was terrible and the west indies game is the proof. We should had defeated West indies, but the likes of Yousuf, younis and Inzi didnt perform in ICC tournaments.

even against Zimbabwe, our three main batsmen, Inzi, Yousuf, and Younus failed.
They were seriously over rated players.

Imran nazir was a terrible player aswell. We should had also lost the Zimbabwe game had it not been the fluke of an innings by Nazir. That 160 was Nazir's careers 2nd century in the 7 years. He wouldn't even make another century after that.
