India have been bottling in the crucial matches of the ICC knock out events for the last 10 years. South Africa's long drought for ICC trophy is also in process since 1998. Pakistan also has lost more than a couple of knock out encounters since 2017.So each of the above team has a fair share of failures that make them eligible for this ignominous tag. So, who in your estimation is the real powerhouse for chokers in the international cricket in recent times?

Also bear in mind the no. 1 test team India's abysmal failure today against South Africa.
 
Since 2013, India hasn't won any ICC trophy and has often been eliminated in the knockout stages. This puts India in the category of teams considered chokers, alongside South Africa.

Pakistan aren't good enough to be called chokers. Their brilliance is often in flashes but not for a notable period.

India and South Africa show brilliance for a long period but lose the rythm when they reach the final destination.

Yep Pakistan recent failures have always something to do with injury. Remember Shaheen got injuring during catch in T20I WC 2022 and also the missed Naseem Shah greatly and ended with a below par performance. So unlike India, Pakistan is no choker but just unfortunate.
 
South Africa will remain ahead of anyone in terms of chocking, nobody can reach to their standards

Pakistan are not unfortunate. They are simply not good enough to sustain quality performance for a notable period. A top team will usually sustain the performance for a longer period while Pakistan usually have 1-2 exciting sessions amidst 4-5 bad sessions. Their problem is lack of sustainability.

Injuries is a problem for everyone. India didn't had Pant and Jadeja who have been two best batters in Test cricket in last 3 years for India and Shami who recently had a terrific World Cup. Even in WC, Hardik got injured.

Bro Pakistan in his recent cricketing history has never been consistent. But what about India who rules ranking in all formats, play good cricket consistently, reach the SF and Finals and then lose. So if this is not choking then what is choking. Atleast Pakistan can't be branded with this ignominous tag.

That occasional failure is down to injuries. Atleast Indian fans can say, we won 80% of the matches we played. Real concern is for Pakistan who won like almost half, 40% of the matches they played.

The year, 2023 inspite of WC Final loss is regarded as golden 2023 for India in ODIs.

Bro yep, your team won 80% of your matches but on your own home turf. Just acknowledge it your team is just home bullies whenever you go outside India you suffer like minnows.

A very recent example is just yesterday's fiasco. You can never be acknowledged as "Great" of the game with good performances locally. Atleast former chokers SA were better even outside their home.
 
You have to agree to the fact that all Asian sides struggle overseas and India is also one of them. But South Africa still is the biggest choker for me as they have won no big tournament in recent years.

Yep bro, but in this year CWC 2023 atleast they fought like lions till the end against Australia in SF. Not just throw in the towel like India in final that also in a one-sided encounter.

India of late, that is after 2013, can even bring South Africa to shame as chokers.

Yep 💯 agree, we should now called them as chokers not proteas. Proteas now have greater probability to win titles in future than India because of their young lot of talents.
 
India without a doubt. Once or twice can be an coincidence but consistently playing well in the group stages only to fail in the knockout stages earned Proteas the choker tag and India is no different
 
India didn't show a fight in important matches. They did play well in tougher situations, but those games were of lesser importance. I think the fear of failure is choking them.

I think bro another factor are the serial senior chokers like I mentioned above. Kohli and KL instead of leading deserts the team. Still remember a youngster and inexperienced Pandya in 2017 ct final against Pakistan gave team green a headache but the senior cast just laid down their arms.

I believe you need fearless warrior like Rinku Singh and Rishabh Pant now if you are interested in winning titles. Hope you second it.

Exacrly this.

Pakistan are an average side (and have been for quite some time) who occasionally do something special, and just as often crash and burn.
Almost by definition they can’t be chokers — a term reserved for a very good side that fails to deliver when the pressure is on.
 
Pakistan shouldn't be in contention for the biggest chokers. They have been an average side for a while.

Between SA and India, I will say SA. So many missed opportunities and many were close ones as well. It's not that they were always outplayed on given day. It was just choking plenty of times. A very long history.

Bro I think you didn't notice we are talking about "recent" times otherwise no doubt, South Africa would have been the top choker historically.

Yup , if its recently in the past 10 yrs - has to be Ind undoubtedly. They messed up so many opportunities - going to the sf and final repeatedly and then losing.

2015 odi wc sf vs aus ( not a choke I would say as Aus was way better and Ind reaching the sf itself was an achievement)

2017 ct final vs pak
2019 odi wc sf vs eng
2021 t20wc - didnt qualify - lost to pak and nz in home like dubai conditions
2021 wtc final vs nz
2022 t20 wc sf vs aus
2022 wtc final vs aus
2023 odi wc final vs aus

Jeez thats a lot of losses in sf and finals. Absolutely - the king of chokers in the past 10 years..hurts but thats the truth..

I don’t think you can include Pakistan in this list because it’s not that we choke, it’s that we haven’t had consistent quality across our team for a long period of time. The first time our fast bowling started looking settled in the shorter formats all of our mainline pacers came down with injuries.

If anything, Pakistan has massively overperformed in recent times. We won the 2017 Champion’s Trophy and were the runner ups in the most recent T20 WC.

Yep to be honest never thought Pak would win ct 2017 but they won against all odds. Never expected Pak to qualify to SF in 2022 but they even went to final and just fell tantalizing ly short. Also in 2021 unexpectedly we were really good. So proud of PCT in that sense.

Yeah when I look back at our team, how unsettled it’s been, the injuries, and honestly the lack of quality we have come through in certain positions recently like our spin stocks - it seems like we have out performed what could be expected from such a team.

Also we took down some big teams in tournaments as well. Beat India in the T20 WC. In the 2019 WC we took down both eventual finalists and South Africa.

Now if we could just get our home Test series pitch situation settled and turn Pakistan into a fortress for home tests and figure out how to rotate players and keep them healthy..

New Zealand now in polls too but still believe can never claim the top spot as even they managed to win a WTC title against India in 2021.

India has raised the standard of choking to a new high, very difficult for other poor chaps to break😁😁🤣
 
SOuth Africa is still leading the chart for me. New Zealand on number 2, and India at number three because they have reached the KO stage many times and have failed to win.

I think we all need to unlearn now. So whenever someone refers to chokers, don't bring South Africa to mind but instead just think of India. They have earned it through their consistent choking in last 10 years..
 
Why I have South Africa and New Zealand ahead of India is because SA and Kiwis haven't won any major ICC tournament like ODI WC or T20 or champions trophy but India has won something although it was almost a decade-old story but still.

New Zealand won the Test Championship and if you look closely you'll find no other team is even getting close to India in terms of qualifying for the Finals/Semi Finals and choking it.

Last World Cup 2023 is the purest definition of choke. Unbeatable India all campaign but choked at the very last and most critical moment.
 
Chokers is a team who lost important match from winning position .not sure india is chokers but definitely most underachieving team amd its not even close

You still lost. Doesn’t matter how.

The 28 year losing streak we have in Australia is still there. That streak is still there no matter how close some of the losses were.

Also, India lost to England who went on to lift the trophy. Pakistan choked yet again Vs Zimbabwe of all teams in the group stages. Which was more embarrassing? 🤔 🧐

Yep team Pakistan also has its share of failure but in no way those failures make Pakistan a bigger choker than India. India have also lost against lowly team like Bangladesh. In 2022 not only they lost a series against Bangladesh but also in a match in that series they failed to claim the last wicket with more than 40 runs to defend.

So Pakistan may would have been bad but in no way they can be compared to the king of choking in recent years like India.

Vaughn is not incorrect. Ind in cricket with the amount of talent and resources available has underachieved. But that's what makes sports special. The richest or most popular board or country is not guaranteed wins. Eng in soccer way underperforms considering the infrastructure it has whereas African countries with no infrastructure over perform.

Will correct myself. Ind doesn't underachieve but choke in the finals. Making finals regularly is not underachieving but not winning the finals the last hurdle is certainly choking. Not winning 10 finals or sf in icc events past 10 years is definitely choking..have a mental block on the ko games which needs to be addressed
 
India are emerging chokers. South Africa and New Zealand are all time greatest chokers. And Pakistan first needs to consistently enter the knockout stages before being called as a choker.

Yep Pakistan team's performance is so inconsistent to be ranked among chokers. As explained by Nasser Hussain "One minute down and the next minute up"

And yeah pak is not good enough to be labeled as a choker as they rarely qualify for ko games.

The cricket infrastructure base is pretty stronger - so sooner than later ind will get out of it. They need to move on from the seniors in white ball cricket t20s- rohit jaseja kohli klrahul thakur ashwin- until that time the icc ko defeats won't stop. Sometimes you just need a fresh team with no baggage just like the 2007 ind t20 wc team-

Pakistan cannot be chokers because they always depend on other teams to help them make it to the knockout stage.

No wonder on that statement. He could have been brutally honest on that and used same harsher terms to describe India's failure but again you don't want to kick your bread and butter by making some comments that may trigger wealthy indian sports channels😁😁.

I agree, these seniors seem to have some baggage now. For example, Kohli needs on-your-face challenges. In other words, he fights as an equal or as an underdog in a situation. But, if he is expected to deliver, I guess those expectations put him down.
We need fearless players like MS, Rinku, or Naseem.

2015 semi final - Not Choking. Ran into a better team in their home conditions
2017 CT final - Choking. Massive favorites to win it.
2019 semi final - Choking. Massive favorites to win it.
2023 Final - Mother of all choking. Favorites to win it.

WTC finals is not choking. You don't choke in Test matches. You have chance to come back. INdia went with zero preparation. Only preparation was IPL. NZ had already played a Test series against England was ready for Final. India was there after T20 tamasha league. Plus the conditions, toss. Same with second final. Lack of preparation. Straight from IPL.

Till 2018

India had 5 ICC trophies
Pakistan had 3 ICC trophies
SL had 3 ICC trophies

All teams had 0 test series wins in Aus. Which one is more difficult to achieve for these teams?

Today the South African U19 side has registered another choking performance as a tribute to their seniors.
 
What a sight it will be when India and South Africa meet each other in an ICC final. It will funnier than all Mr. Bean episodes.
 
India simply don't have the talent to win ICC tournaments.

You can't choke if you are flawed in the first place.

In 2011, we had matchwinning batters from 1 to 7.

We haven't had that after that World Cup.

We don't even have batting all-rounders or at least don't select them. We were the only team without batting allrounders in the entire World Cup.

We played SKY at 6 and Jadeja at 7.

If and when, India gets genuine batting until 7 with a couple of batting allrounders in that top 7, then they can be considered to have a real shot at winning an ICC tournament
