He smashed everything towards his pads or on the leg stump for six, but couldn't get bat on ball when the ball was outside off. Not sure if that's an anomaly or how he usually bats. Have seen him hitting a lot over mid-wicket, but not sure about his overall game.
Yes leg side is his dominant side indeed. He is an allrounder so we need to see his complete skill set here.
If we see batsman and allrounders we have produced in last 3 decades than only ones capable of playing all round the wicket were
1. Saeed
2. Inzamam
3. Mohammad Yousuf
4. Imran Nazir
5. Umar Akmal
6. Babar Azam
7. Haris Sohail
8. Umar Amin
And that’s it.
As Asif Afridi is an allrounder so if we compare him with Allrounders than all Pak allrounders favoured Leg side and straight boundary. Only Azhar Mehmood was dynamic enough and Razzaq could also squeeze few through the offside.
To his credit Asif played a splendid straight shot for four against Arshad who was bowling around 88 mph if not more and that was a bullet shot. He does favour leg side but he doesn’t slog blindly like say Anwar Ali or Sohail tanveer.
Also he has hit 30 sixes in this domestic season (FC + List A) and only Umar Akmal has hit more sixes than him so I am sure teams know his strong areas yet he has still scored.
His consistency is also very impressive because in Quaid e Azam One day Cup 2018 He averaged 45 with the bat and had the SR of 165.
At this age I don’t see him improving his offside play but I do feel that when Khalid Usman and Nauman Ali can get selected for PSL (well deserved) Asif Afridi could also make the cut. He edges them both in batting.
