Ajinkya Rahane, if he actually gets to play more than two tests.

murli Vijay. His position is under threat and has point to prove with recent bad performances.
Rahane or kohli would be second choice.

Rahane will obviously play in eng, he played well in the last test vs sa and so he won't be removed for sure.
Rohit shouldn't be selected for the team.
Also this should be last opportunity for pujara to create a mark in overseas tests otherwise play him only in subcontinent.

Why should we carry a guy who cant bat outside India when we have the likes of Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal making big runs in FC? I think selectors are already looking out thier performance in A team tours to replace Pujara.

Kohli - I have a very strong feeling that he will be determined to stamp his authority over the English and prove why he's the best batsman in the world.

Rahane has lost some of that confidence evident from his drop in average and strike rate, so I don't think he can match Kohli.

I also feel the same.
Kohli will not have an average series this time. It'll be great or catastrophic nothing in between.

Pujara deserves one last chance.
He doesn't lack the technique to play swing bowling but he has less scoring shots.
We can take one middle order bat in squad to replace pujara if he fails in first two or three tests.

Ashwin, i think he will score heavily down the order.

I think it will come down to Rahul and Kohli.

Pujara will blunt new ball but won't score plenty. Rahane will do well for sure but he bats at 5 and chances are very low to become a top scorer in that batting position.

I think Rahul given his form is one hell of contender but over a 5 test series I have more confidence on Kohli only to be the leading run scorer because even if say he has poor start to series, he can turn it on and become a leading scorer by getting couple of hundreds all a sudden.

KL Rahul if he plays. He is in the form of his life.

If KL does not play, it will be Pujara. Kohli will have an average series.

Bhuvi as every innning after INDIA is 50 for 5 he will score 40 runs every rescue act so 9 innings of avg 25 runs

Kohli will score at least two hundreds in the series IMO..

Need one in the top 5 to accumulate 500+ runs and a couple of them to be at 400+. My bet is on Kohli, Rahane and Rahul to be these three batsmen for us.

Rahne might not get full series, but even so I'll go for Kohli. Over a 10 Test career (In UK), if he is to average remotely decent like 35+, I think he needs about 600 runs in this series. Might not be that much, but I believe he is definitely capable of crossing 500 for the series. Besides, he has like 21 hundreds in 60 Tests outside UK (1/3), which is probably only bettered by Bradman - while 0/5 in ENG, which he'll fix this time.

5 Tests, 10 innings, 1 not out, 525 runs @ 57.5 with couple of hundreds; that's sounds good.

Rahane. Kohli is a wildcard, he will either make amends or go flop again. Kohli in tests is highly volatile and unpredictable.

Kohli is the easy, cookie-cutter answer. I'm going with MS Karthik.

Ajinkya Rahane will score most runs over series. Kohli will probably fail in first 2 tests, score big century in 3rd to give India a chance and then lose interest by 4th-5th test if series is gone.

Kohli. I have a feeling that he will absolutely destroy England. I'm predicting atleast 3 hundreds including a double.

India will be in a huge problem if it will be Ashwin or Bhuvaneshwar.

Apart from Vijay, Bhuvi was India's best batsman in 2014 series in England. Even in SA Bhuvi was one of India's best batters on those tough wickets. He had crucial partnerships with Pandya in the first Test and with Rahane in the third Test

And India lost both the series. That's what I meant - if your lower order batsmen are among your top scorers that means the top order has failed as lower order mostly only salvages the pride.

I am going to get bombarded with this but inner gut saying Dhawan, Kohli and Rahul.

Shami. He will hit more sixes than virat and rahul combined.

Kidding but i will go with rahane or rahul.

I'm hoping Dhawan doesn't play. Unless Murali Vijay is injured, its highly unlikely that both Dhawan and Rahul will play together.

That's why I mentioned Rahul as my another high run scorer.

Two reasons I am sticking neck out for Dhawan.

1) he is in serious form 2) Left hander. All pacers from England are right hander, so he can negate some natural outswings

After reading a particular thread, I am convinced KL Rahul will olbiterate the English bowlers, so my obvious pick is KL Rahul :yk2

Kohli should repeat his form from SA.. Bhuvi will score a few runs down the order.

I hope we play Rahane and Rahul.

Vijay
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane

Did you watch the second test between England and Pakistan?

Broad and Anderson were bowling round the wicket angling the ball in and then making it seam away from the left handers.. It was fascinating to watch them toy with left handers like that, Dhawan won’t stand a chance against such bowling..

Kohli and KL Rahul.

Kohli will take revenge for the 2014 series and this tour will be the beginning of KL Rahul version 2. After this tour, he will become a permanent member of the starting XI in all three formats and will become one of the best batsman in the world.

Basically this. I feel since this is a long series, Kohli is more likely to be India's leading run scorer because once he gets set and is timing well, he will probably make it count big.

Rahane is also a contender.
He has the highest away avg for current players. (even higher than smith).

Don't think rahane has ever been the kind of player who scores 2 centuries in a series. He would perhaps scoree one match winning century but don't think he wud be the leading run scorer over the series. Perhaps Kohli wud be the one.

On Pujara, if Shastri and Kohli show the same courage of SA when they dropped Rahane (I think rightly so on poor form) then Pujara might not even get a game. They could select Rahul over Pujara and I won't complain one bit if they do that. Pujara is so much hype for so little performance.

Rahane or Kohli.

I would have said M Vijay, but he 's an opener and its always difficult for openers in England. Besides, he's aged considerably since the last tour where he was brilliant.

KL Rahul also has potential but its his first series in England. Hopefully, he gets a chance in all 5 tests in place of either Dhawan or Pujara.

Poll added! I went for Kohli, I back him to improve on his poor record in England.
