Who is the best hitter in Asia currently?

Thinking about it because I can't find anyone.
Is Thisara Perera the only hitter in Asia?! And even him, he is out of the Sri lankan team.

In pakistan there is no one, and I can't see any one in India either.
When you compare this with Australia, SA, NZ and England... they all have at least 1-2 great hitters if not more (especially England).

As a pakistani it's a shame, having Abdul Razaaq and Afridi at the same period and no one now...
 
Sharjeel, Rohit, Kohli, Yuvraj. Sharjeel is the best hitter in Asia so how can you say we have no one?
 
Yuvraj is still around.He is the best hitter. But living on borrowed oxygen.
Sharjeel is the true best hitter at the moment.
 
I personally think it's Sharjeel. But if I give a list of the best hitters I'd go for:

Sharjeel Khan
Shoaib Malik (as of recent due to playing a lot of T20 league cricket)
Thisara Perera
Virat Kohli
Rohit Sharma
Yuvraj Singh
Mohammad Shahzad
 
Actually it is Najibullah Zadran and it's not even close. Unreal hitter. :afridi
 
A hitter is someone who can hit sixes at will and regularly - out of sheer power. Dhoni and Yuvi are still there. Kohli is my favorite player in the world, but he is definitely not a hitter, which I think is actually a compliment for a player of his caliber. Sharjeel is a hitter too. So basically:

Dhoni.
Yuvi.
Rohit Sharma.
Sharjeel Khan.
Mohammad Shahzad (afghanistan). - Don't underestimate this guy. Packs a punch.
 
Mohammad Nabi, Nuwan Kulasekara, Hardik Pandya and Ravi Jadeja as well.

Sabbir is the only one who comes close for Bangladesh.

Kedar jadhav, msd and pandya is what we have... And we have Raina too.... Some players who are great hitters are not getting selected like Sarfaraz Khan, pant etc

And in top order we have rohit Sharma, yuvi. Kohli is smart hitter not big hitter...

In pak there is sharjeel at top, Sarfaraz is there.... And Imad wasim cam hit big ones too...
 
Yuvraj is finished, guys please.

As of now, nobody's more brutal than Sharjeel Khan.

Sarfraz is as much of a hitter as Azhar ali
 
Rohit, Sharjeel, Yuvi, Dhoni, Mathews come to mind.

Damn, didn't realize there was such a dearth of genuine hitters in Asia. You know the situation is bad when guys like Malik, Jadeja and Kulasekara are being mentioned lmao.
 
Reading the awnsers tells you that theee is no one.
Most of you are going for top oder batsman that can hit some sixes or Yuvraj Singh who is completely finished for half a decade.

On the orher side you have guys like Buttler, Stokes, Billings, Miller, Maxwell, Marsh, Anderson, Ronchi, De Grandhomme...
A big difference between asians and non asians here...

For me, a hitter means the ability to hit sixes.

By that metric, in the last two years in ODIs,

Sharjeel Khan hits 1.5 sixes per innings.

Rohit Sharma hits 1.4 sixes per innings.

Shoaib Malik (believe it or not) hits 1.1 sixes per innings.

So the three biggest hitters in ODIs of Asia are -

1. Sharjeel Khan
2. Rohit Sharma
3. Shoaib Malik.

In the T20 format, in the last 2 years,

Mohammad Shahzad hits 1.4 sixes per innings.

Najibullah Zadran hits 1.4 sixes per innings.

Shahid Afridi hits 1.2 sixes per innings.

So the three biggest asian hitters in T20s are:

1. Mohammad Shahzad
2. Najibullah Zadran
3. Shahid Afridi.
 
Afghans with some more exposure will kill the LOI format,they already have so many bowlers in the rankings and look at their hitting stats.

Shobby is the MVP of the Pakistan team and I have a gut feeling that he will repeat his heroics of Centurion at Edgbaston in our champions trophy encounter.

He is the only player in the Pak team who knows what it takes to beat India.
 
Sharjeel is hopeless when the ball moves, he can only score on flat tracks and once the ball moves he is a walking wicket.

Kohli is an extraordinary stroke player and timer of the ball. You'll see him coming out of the crease very often to lift the ball to the extra cover boundary but you'll find that almost always he'll keep his body balance exactly poised, head looking at the ball as he meets it pretty much dead centre of the bat. Faulkner shot was a similar one where all his head, arms and body motions were in sync with each other. Similarly look at the extraordinary short arm jab he played to get to his century at Pune a few days back and the even better shot he followed it up with.

However you can't say he is a "power hitter" per se. Even he says he doesn't have the power to hit sixes like Gayle and hence sticks to playing conventional cricket shots along the ground and sometimes taking the aerial route. Someone like Brendon McCullum also plays the extra cover shot a lot. He doesn't always find the centre of the bat but his power and phenomenal fast hands are enough to take it over the boundary many times. Anyway these are all semantics. Generally when people say hitters or powet hitters, they mean batsmen who can hit sixes at will.

Kohli is not a hitter because he chooses not to be. Hitting requires:
1. Power
2.Timing
3. Intent
Kohli has all three of them. He restricts himself for playing risk free shots. Why go for sixes when he could bash each one of them for boundary. He is not a seasoned hitter but if he decides he would take 5-6 matches adjusting being a hitter and you will get a new Kohli.

Then raina and yuvraj are also not hitters but stroke players.Actually most are stroke players then. Let's merge both stroke players and power hitters as one. Someone who can bash 6s and 4s consistently is a hitter.

I agree that it's somewhat a grey area. I would group someone like Sangakarra with Kohli. He could also hit sixes but generally made his runs through boundaries along the ground with pure timing.

Yuvraj is also a great stroke player but because he hits a lot more sixes than someone like Kohli or Sangakarra, you can call him a power hitter. Anyway I think it's just the preference of people.
 
Sharma is a hit man. Many Indian players are hitters. JUst that they are not consistent. Let us not forget Raina made 87 runs in 25 bals in the IPL. He has also made interntaional T20 100 in 70 balls against SA. Appropriate question would be who is the most inform hitter. Since last year sharjeel has scored at 130, Kedhar jadhav scored at 129, Kohli at 101.. All got over 300 runs. Yea Sharjeel is the most inform hitter right now.
 
Sharjeel is crap. Over rated as hitter. Others mentioned by all above ppers are also 'part time hitters' at best. Sabbir of bd*also part timer.

Mohammad shehzad and zadran*are*the only true hitters is asia.

In Limited Overs, Sharjeel will walk into all sides except Australia, South Africa and England if we are talking purely about batting. He might even get into the Australian Limited Overs teams if Khawaja keeps flopping and head doesn't cut it as opener.

You missed the sentence "over rated as hitter". He is a fine batsman and one of the few(3) current pak players who I like.

I agree with all of that. He doesn't need power hitting and he's an excellent player in his own style.
 
In case you are looking for hitters with talent and potential the list is as follows.

Pak: Sharjeel K ( Umar A. doesnt qualify as you still need a brain)
India: Kohli, Dhoni, Pandya
SriLanka: Mathews.
Bangladesh: Shabir Hossain, Shakib Ul Hassan

Not a chance of Sharjeel opening for Australia. Finch is a better opener than Sharjeel so Finch would be selected before Sharjeel.
 
Talking about power hitters not strikers. (Sehwag, Sharjeel, Kusal Perera are strikers more of 4 hitters than 6)

Yuvraj, Dhoni, Jadhav, Raina in India.
Prasanna(Underrated), Perera(hit or miss) in SL
Haven't seen much of Afghanistan
Sabbir is the only one in BD that comes close to it.
NO one in PAK atm.

There's no better and consistent hitter, who can average 40 plus against quality bowling, than Sharjeel Khan in Australia.

Except Warner who is better at this stage.

Kholi, Sharma, Sangakarra and I could go on because there are fifteen players with higher averages than Sharjeel in just the last five years that have played the same or more matches than him. Take Riley Russouw for instance he averages higher at a higher strike rate.

Any hack can score runs in Australia so talk about Sharjeel in Asia or England and then we will know how good he is.

It's one thing handling a spinner in Australia but it's different handling them in the subcontinent.

The tour of Bangladesh would probably give us more answers.

Yes, but Sharjeel isn't a hack, and has scored wherever he has played, including in the UAE. You can't claim that for even someone like Warner, let alone a hack like Finch.

Any team would be lucky to have Sharjeel.

Actually warner needed help from Pak fielders in scoring in the series, Sharjeel , the so called hack, never got any such help from the opposition!

He isn't great, but improved, and not as bad as what Warner/Finch have done against spin. Maybe not Warner.

Sharjeel is a hack, a couple of mediocre scores in Australia and no hundreds against any one (except minnows and then only one), he may develop but at the moment he has done nothing in international cricket.

Sharjeel averages 22 in Asia so yeah he plays spin very well.
