It seems like Ehsan Mani is not going to take another term. Who will replace him. Please. Anyone but Wasim Akram.

If Misbah wants the job he will get it.

Wasim Khan will invent a new dual role where the head coach and PCB chairman will be combined into one job.

He will call it a necessary innovation in Pakistan cricket.

If Misbah finds it too difficult to balance both jobs, he will discard the necessary innovation and look for a new PCB Chairman or head coach depending on which job Misbah prefers to keep at that point.

Misbah will take Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan's job together.

Realistically, Mani continues for a second term to solidify the changes they’ve made under his tenure. If he doesn’t want to continue I could see someone like Zaheer Abbas being brought in to hold back old timers and allow Wasim Khan to finish up his changes to the system.

Mani and WK need to stay. If they go, there will be once again be no accountability as whether the reforms have worked or not. There has been a huge improvement in Domestic cricket quality and although there is a long way to go, the foundation has been laid. We need to sort out the national team and unless we win/Draw the series in NZ, its time for Misbah to fall on his sword.

We need someone who can fix domestic cricket with an iron fist, has gravitas globally and will bring a logical and impactful voice for Pakistan at ICC.

In other words, a unicorn.

Failing which, I will bring in someone young from the very top of corporate sector, who has been involved in cricket in some capacity.

in other words, a second unicorn.

The first one fits Ehsan Mani, very diplomatic behind the scenes pulling strings at the ICC and taking strict measures via Wasim Khan to improve domestic cricket, while the second one fits the bill of Javed Afridi and Salman Iqbal. Unfortunately the first is retiring and the latter two are probably happy where they are right now without the mess of PCB politics.

Failing that, I say chaos and bring in Shoaib Akhtar.

Someone of the capability of AVM Nur Khan. A tremendous administrator who made us world power in squash and hockey in the late 80s to mid 90s. Such people are a rarity though.

Thank you for mentioning this. I had never heard of this man. I will look him up.

The most important things for Mani’s position are corporate governance; financial acumen; diplomatic skills. It is a job with very high skill requirements, in these areas, in our part of the world. In other countries, chairman can just be a ‘figurehead’ but in Pakistan, with our love for giving power to the top brass, this is certainly a more active position and requires the above-mentioned three things.

Who has these traits in Pakistan? Probably a lot of people we will never hear about... I fear we may do something absolutely stupid like bring in Imran’s buddy, Wasim Akram, who has none of these skills.

It's never going to happen until IK is PM and it's a thoroughly unpopular opinion but I strongly believe that Najam Sethi was an excellent PCB chairman. I wouldn't mind him at the helm again but the problem is he will undo the 6 team regional domestic setup and bring back departmental cricket. While I don't have much problem with departmental cricket, for the sake of continuity it's imperative that nobody touches the domestic setup for at least 10 years to see how the 6 team regional setup develops. For too long, a new chairman has uprooted the previous regime's work and that hasn't helped Pakistan cricket at all.

PCB needs a chairman who can handle the politics that comes along with it. Handling Pakistani politics is not everyone's cup of tea. Had Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan not had the staunch backing of IK, they would've been out of here long time ago.

In current structure, PCB chairman isn’t that important position - a politically influential guy or a retired General/bureaucrat with adequate links can be very good choice as long as the guy is level headed with proper spirt and without attitude problem. The most important role is the CEO of PCB and the functional CXOs - the COO, CFO, CCO & CTO (Head of cricket operation).

PCB chairman shouldn’t be someone who micro manages things and interfere in day to day operations- his job is at policy level; be father figure for downward spiral and fix things at the opposite end - manage external influence and unnecessary interference. Mani actually failed to impress me regarding his stand on Arthur & Misbah.
