A poor year for Pakistan's red ball side, with 2 more games left to play (vs ENG & NZ).

Played 7, Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 4.

The top run scorers:

Abdulla Shafique. He has been the test find for Pakistan in 2022 and has outperformed seasoned players like Azhar, Fawad and Rizwan.

Abdullah Shafique. if not for him, Pak would have been whitewashed in SL.

Abdullah Shafique/Babar Azam

Tough to pick between two. If not for Babar's 196, Pak would have lost that match which they drew in Aus too.

It's like voting on the best hair out of a group of bald people.

Bar Abdullah Shafique, they should all be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

No one deserves an award the Test side this year has been a shambles.

Babar takes it with Abdullah and Naseem being very promising

May as well start choosing Pakistan's worst Test player of the year at this point.

Shafique and Shakeel are at least some positives to come out of red-ball cricket this year

Definitely Abdullah. People criticizing him forget how new he is to international and even FC cricket. He has already, almost singlehandedly, won us a test from a very difficult situation. Babar played well during the year but not up to his potential and his leadership was abysmal.

Lol. This guy has been technically exposed now. Keeps getting out on same kind of delivery everytime. Even his position in team is questionable.

Yes, like every other batter he has a weakness. So what? Does not take away anything from his good performances throughout the year. He has played consistently well, especially considering his limited exposure. I know you don't like him, and that's fine, you are entitled to your opinion, but the fact remains that he is the best opening talent we have found in a long time.

Lol he only scored useless runs on pindi tracks. Moreover, i do not hate shafique but i am seeing a constant pattern in his dismissals. No other player in our team is getting out in the same way over and over again. Anyone with little cricketing knowledge knows that his bat comes down at an angle which makes it very difficult to play incoming delivery. He needs to go back to domestics, sort out his technical issues and then make a comeback. But guys like you are totally blind. You can't see that he is exposed at the international level and teams know his weakness and they will exploit it.

Wow look at our bowling. Worrying numbers. So many bowlers means our attack is not yet settled. Only Abrar has super numbers while SHaheen, Nawaz and Naseem have respectable numbers.

Guys like you are the reason Pakistan is close to minnow level now in tests.

Ironic coming from someone like you. Actually its trigger happy people like you who are the reason. First you will clamor to bring youngsters into the side and then want to sack them at the first sign of failure. And this guy hasn't even failed. So far he has played 4 series:

Bangladesh: second highest scorer for Pakistan and fourth highest overall
Australia: top scorer for Pakistan and second highest overall
Sri Lanka: second highest scorer for Pakistan and third overall
England: fourth highest scorer for Pakistan, eighth overall

Why would anyone in his senses replace a youngster who has only played a few FCs and yet has produced these stellar results in his first year of international cricket? The only reason would be if you have a wealth of talent and there are great prospects waiting in the wings. Are there? Who will you replace him with? Abid? Shan? Almost all people around the Pakistan setup are unanimous in their recognition of his talent and his viability as a long term prospect. We have needed a proper test opener for years and he has the potential to be one. Yes he has a weakness but every player does. Imam and Shan have heavily flawed techniques, they are sitting ducks against the moving ball yet Abdullah is the one who should be dropped. Even Babar struggled a lot against left arm spinners but he worked on it. What makes you think Abdullah won't be able to overcome this weakness? As for the flat pitch argument, how is that his mistake? The wickets were the same for all the batters, yet he scored when others didn't.

He has just started and there is no doubt that there is room for improvement. But he topped the QeA charts this year and has consistently shown that he belongs at this level. He will only get better by playing at this level.

Apparently no one has weaknesses.

Think overall it will be Babar Azam - he may not have scored all the times when he should have but he is our best batter

From ICC

The year that was

2022 was yet another year of Babar Azam making and breaking records. Babar was the only player to breach the 2000-run mark in the calendar year across formats, with his 2598 runs coming at an average of 54.12, which included eight hundreds and 17 fifties.

Can we have a poll for pakistans worst test player in 2022, might be a more interesting poll.

Babar for him dumb captaincy and losing Aussies and England series doesnt deserve any best test player for pakistan award this year.

I guess it has to be either Babar Azam or Abdullah Shafique in a terrible year for the Pakistan Test team.

Considering we played mot of our Test matches in Pakistan this was a truly pathetic performance.
