Here I am ranking in order of merit the best captains in the history of the world cup.
.Imran Khan-Virtually performed a Houdini act by leading Pakistan like cornered tigers.Like a great military marshall resurrected Pakistan from the grave to reach the pinnacle of glory in 1992.Knit a set of talented individuals into a cohseive unit like none else.Very unlucky to lose in 1987.No captain got more out of his players.
.Clive Lloyd-A father figure and ultimate motivator.A master in keeping his team moral high ,irrespective of the situation. To me at his best in 1975 and unlucky not to win hat-trick of world cups.
.Arjuna Ranatunga-The ultimate tactician who led Sri Lanka to reach unmatched glory and mark a new epoch in it's cricket.
.Kapil Dev-Even if not so sound tactically ,he motivated India in 1983 like no skipper ever to cause one of of sport's greatest upsets.Few captains ever exuded so much energy on a cricket field and he was at his best tactically in the 1983 final.Harnessed available resources magnificiently in the last 3 games of the world cup.
.Alan Border-Inspite of having such an inexperienced unit in 1987 he marshaled his resources with great insight and never let things slip.
.Mahenda Singh Dhoni-One of cricket's greatest triers and the equivalent of Kapil Dev in his day and age.Few could lift a team's morale more from the depths of despair.
