Who was the most impressive debutant in India-England series 2024

A total seven players have debuted in India-England series. Barring Rajat Patidar all had their moments and some impressive performances to their name.

Let's rank performance of each debutant from worse to best.

7. Rajat Patidar
- Oldest player to debut in the series. He has been disappointed in all the matches he played in. Most probably played his last test match.

6. Devdutt Padikkal
- He got his lucky break after so called injury to Patidar. He was very impressive with his cover drives. But, he'll have to much hard work for his next chance.

5. Akashdeep
- Impressive debut by him in the 4th test as he got 3 wickets in 1st session. His remarkable spell in his debut game will ensure him to get more chances in the future.

4. Sarfaraz Khan
- Khan scored 3 fifties but he was failure in pressure situations. He was impressive with boundary hitting ability to spinners.

3. Shoaib Bashir
- Bashir became the 1st ever England player to bag two fifers before 21th birthday. He will certainly play more.

2. Tom Hartley
- Consistent with his lengths, Hartley was successful in taking wickets at any stage of the game. His lower order hitting was noticeable too.

1. Dhruv Jurel
- Find of the series. India has find a great wicketkeeper so they can play Pant as a pure batter. His calmness with the bat and quickness with the gloves was highly impressive.

Jurel was the most impressive. A fantastic find, he can be main keeper bat or even a backup in overseas conditions ( for Pant or KL). It is just a start so long way to go, real challenges will be overseas conditions.

Sarfaraz was also pretty good. But not sure if he is a long term material or not. Very talented bat but falls behind in other factors of the game.

Bashir's a good find for England. Great series for him except that funny DRS review where he was clean bowled

From Ind perspective, jurel is the best prospect. I hope he will shine in sena too.Next akashdeep will be a good addition for 4th bowler spot.As prasid bubble got bursted ,we need a good back up for 4th spot.I hope dravid will leave after t20 wc and karnataka quota will be exhausted finally.

Bashir should be the find of tour for eng from vanishing spin stocks perspective. Heartly is a much better all round package than Bashir.

Jurel, played like an ATG in Ranchi, not a debutant.

Especially after the torture of Bharat, sadness around Pant's absence, Jurel was the spark Indian fans needed the most.

I think bcci was caught napping at that time. As the dravid contract is for 6 months only and we don't have any imp series till Oct(excluding minnow tours till then)Even an inept administration should get a new coach now.

Jurel saved Indians skin a few times.

From the list in the OP I think only Jurel and Sarfraz will have good careers. Bashir and Hartley will not average under 32 in test circket.

I will be surprised if they will play more than 5 or 10 matches from here on given where they will play.

He was not supposed to be there in first place.He never got punished for his selfish batting.In t20s, There was a stat before asia cup 22, powerplay batting avg was 8 per over and in kl company it was 6 .Even then nothing was done and kl was carried happily through out 22 t20 wc .He was rewarded with captaincy for sa odis after that horrific knock in wc finals.Even it's selection mistake coach should stop that .Prasid was found out in t20s but not stopped .

If you are talking very specifically about T20's, then I agree.
But in that format, its not just KL.. A couple of other big names are pretty overrated too.

Exactly my problem.he should be more authoritative.

Another issue is dragging kl till aus mid test series, even though everyone was seeing his poor form.
