Best batsmen from Asian sub-continent at no 3 position or one down in test cricket in order of merit.Strangely very few great specialist batsmen from the sub-continent who were regularly batting at one down position.
1.Rahul Dravid
2.Kumar Sangakaara
3.Younus Khan
4.Zaheer Abbas
5.Mohinder Amarnath
6.Dilip Vengsarkar
7.Ijaz Ahmed
8.Vijay Manjrekar
Placed Rahul Dravid at top because of his great performances and consistency overseas which at one time ranked amongst the top 5 test batsmen of all time in term of batting average.Rahul was the ultimate player when a team's back was to the wall and to stitch the wound. Also a master on bad wickets overshadowing even Tendulkar.
Sangakaara was statistically the best but considerably better at home than Dravid. No doubt a great match-winner.
Younus Khan has staggering stats and could turn the complexion or ressurect a batsmen like nonone in his time.
Zaheer Abbas took batting artistry to heights of divinty or the sublime. Scored 2 double centuries in England and a century in Australia at one down.
Mohinder Amarnath tackled great pace arguably better than nay batsmen in the history of test cricket in 1982-83 when scoring 584 runs at an average of 73 in Pakistan and 598 runs at an average of 66 in the Carribean.Depicted the guts of a soldier when driving or hooking the like sof Imran ,Roberts or Marshal at their best.
Vengsarkar scored several centuries like a classic 159 v West Indies at Delhi in 1983 ,102 v West Indies at Mumbai in 1983 146 n.o v Pakistan at Delhi in 1979-80 and 157 v England at Lords in 1982..Reminded you a lot of the great Greg Chappell with his classical drives when he simply looked like blazing away with the opposition.I can never forget his 76 out of 1999 at Lahore on fast track when every other Indian batsmen failed.
Ijaz Ahmed was outstanding talent who could devour the best of bowlers with hsi blazing strokes. His power was dazzling .
Vijay Manjrekar was a treat to watch with technical skill in the regions of the sublime.
Rally strange that most of the batting superstars never were one down specialists or hardly batted at no 3 be it Tendulkar,Miandad,Aravinda De'Silva,Jayewardene,Vishwanath,Salim Malik,Inzamam Ul Haq,Virat Kohli or Azharuddin .
