Who were the most elegant, stylish or graceful batsmen from the sub-continent?

For sure Mohammad Yousuf has been quite vocal, not always wrong, but not helpful with his comments over the years.

As a batsman though - joy to watch, his knocks in England in 2006 were beauties. Even that 50 in 2010...

There is a difference between wristy and stylish. VVS and Azhar were very wristy but not that stylish. Saeed Anwar was stylish plus wristy. Yousuf and Majid were quite stylish. I will also add Asif Iqbal name in the list.
Among the current lot Mahmudullah, Umar Amin are pleasing to the eye
 
Sachin Tendulkar was very Elegant and so was VVS Laxman. Rahul Dravid also was an elegant player through the offside.
 
Ganguly and Anwar were most elegant.

Jaysurya was most exciting.
 
Ranking so many would be tough - I can do probably till 3rd. Zaheer, Azhar & Sanga. After them, there are so many that it's risky to order.

Apart from usual names, despite poor stats, Roy Dias was extremely stylish.

The reason he doesn't get enough applauds is because he was an epic bottler in tough conditions and against better attacks. Add to that his constant whining during the later half of his career doesn't help his cause either.

He had few gold innings against quality attacks in his prime.

Whining however is another story.
 
Outside the subcontinent Brian Lara, David Gower and Alec Stewart were grace personified when batting. Incredibly good the watch they were a delight for the mutual observer. Very so easy on the eye were these three gentlemen :amir2

MoYo greater than Kohli? :)) Please don't make me post his Test cricket stats for all to see, it would be humiliating.

No doubt about it.

Might not have been as good as the others but absolutely beautiful stroke-making. Those centuries in ENG (2006) were a work of art.
 
Yousuf was superb to watch. His drives haven't been matched by any batsman since. Anwar was magical as well.

According to Stats, Younis Khan is better than Miandad, Inzi and MoYo. But we all know where the quality lies.

Kohli has been padding up his stats against softies throughout his career. They mean nothing.

MoYo in his prime was a way better test batsman than Kohli.

Since you asked for it, here are some of MoYo's magical numbers in Tests -


vs Aus - 29.61

vs SA - 29.75

vs SL - 29


He averages below 30 against 3 major Test playing nations, 2 of them having the best attacks of his time. Now let's have a look at how well he did in a few countries -


in Aus - 31.88

in SA - 26.10

in SL - 33.80

in Ind - 33.73


Those numbers are not just pathetic but downright embarrassing. Now try defending them. Having an odd glitch is different, but to have such averages in 4 of the major Test playing nations of his time is simply unacceptable. MoYo is the single biggest FTB to have come out of the sub-continent. Those numbers don't lie.

You saw CT final? Kohli actually should average around that. He is only being fed by BCCI's dead track dominance.

MoYo atleast scored some where others failed.

Would have, should have, could have ...... they count for nothing. What matters in the cricketing world is what has happened. And those numbers I posted are there for anyone to verify. CT final? Do you remember the QF of the 96' WC? Let's judge Waqar Younis by that sole match.

And if MoYo did indeed score when others failed, your fellow countrymen wouldn't have labelled him an epic bottler.

If we keep playing Zim and Afghanistan and our players start averaging in 90s, would they be ATG?

Kohli has played selective teams in selective conditions. There's no could haves about this.

A series with Pakistan in good condition would have some day, that would show you the actual picture.


Waqar has played India like a million times, Kohli is hiding so far.

MoYo had his share of golden innings. No body says him as much of a bottle as others are.

Virat much better batsman than Yousuf. There is no comparison
 
Dravid, Azharuddin two of my favorites. When Dravid was in Crazy form NZ herald ran an article on who is easy on the eyes Dravid or Tendulkar where they concluded Dravid was the most attractive player to watch. I don't disagree. His slow batting should not be confused with his artistry.

From Srilanka after Roy Dias, Roshan Mahaname came along. But Mahela is the best touch player SL has ever produced. Amazing to watch when in full flow.
