If BD played semis or finals, Shakib had chance to become a player of the tournament. But, it won't happen now.

Last World Cup, Sangakkara had a great chance to go down as WC player of the tournament but he failed to take his team beyond the capabilities, that is, semis or finals, and hence Starc was awarded the player of tournament deservingly.

In this WC also, Rohit and Starc are real contenders although a Stokes or Bairstow special in semis or finals might give them an edge. Same applies for Bumrah, Warner and Kane Williamson.

MOTS award should be given to someone who performed consistently in the whole tournament (not just semi-final or final). Starc is probably the best contender to win it.

3 latest have been from teams winning the cup - that should take care of Starc and Sharma, but their numbers are much farther ahead.

I think Boult, Archer, Root, Roy, Bairstow will be serious contenders if they have serious games (100 for batsmen, 4 or 5er for the bowlers).

Bairstow doesn't have enough runs. Root is way ahead.

it will be criminal if Shakib doesnt get it. He is still 3rd on the run chart even thou Williamson and Root have played more games. His S/R is considerably better than both Root & Williamson which illustrates he had a better impact on the game. Add in his 11 wickets tally, its a no-brainer.

I could only imagine Starc with him but he went missing in all important semi final. Great thing about Shakib is his consistency, not a single failure

Some brilliant performances throughout the torunament. Who do you think deserves to be the player of the tournament?

The contenders:

1. Rohit Sharma - phenomenal world cup, got a wrong call by Umpire in one of the matches he failed and in semi he got a peace of a delivery. 5 hundreds in 1 world cup a record in itself.

2. Shakib Al Hassan - Best all rounder in the world, lot of casual fans including me never rated him alongside the best all rounders because we don't follow BD cricket. However he proved all of us wrong and gave the best all round performance in world cup equivalent to Zulu and Yuvi of 99/2011.

3. Starc - The GOAT of world cups. Had a great world cup, an inform fully fit fast bowler giving his 100% is always great to watch. And Starc proved why he is so highly rated.

4. Kane Williamson - amazing consistency and carried his team to the finals. Strike rate might now be that high but he played as per match situation and pitch and got NZ through. Add his captaincy to his batting and you get an all round performance.
