India and England Comfirmed
Pakistan and Australia are likely to be the other two teams.
NZ and SA can spring a surprise and get a spot as well

Agree. The only spot I was little uncertain about was the 4th between New Zealand and Pakistan. Even though Pakistan always do well in England, New Zealand do well in world tournaments. New Zealand also have been doing well in ODIs recently.
 
Excluded SA for the same reason.

The best at choking. Can't handle pressure of a group game against England.

Four semis would be
England (Brutal batting and home advantage)
India (Good batting and wicket taking spinners)
Australia (Because they're Australia, and their love story with world cups)
Nz/ Win
 
Sri Lanka has 0 votes as of now even though they've performed better than expected in the past.

As a pak fan, i wiil say pak(but it could just as easy be india).
 
England - best side in the tournament, no weaknesses.
India - elite top 3, gun pacer + quality spinners + Dhoni.
Australia - friendly schedule + matchwinners with bat & ball.
Pakistan - emotional choice, streaky dangerous side + do well in England.

These 3 will qualify. The final spot is between the rest. I wouldn't expect Sri Lanka,Afghanistan,and Bangladesh to qualify. But they can cause an upset and will be competitive.
 
India is topping the group with 7-8 wins. Our only defeat might be to Pakistan :yk

I didn’t knew that just 1 win will make a team fav for the cup. Pak is still a very average team, it’s is very unlikely that they will even reach the semis.
Either aus or India will win the cup, my 3rd fav will be Nz .

Well it's still early days but I believe its shaping up now.

3 teams were hot favorites.

England
Indian
and Australia

looking at the results so far any team which manages to beat atleast 2 of them has a big chance to qualify for semi finals.

not counting on big upsets.

At the moment pakistan looks in good position. SA SL and Afghanistan seemed to be least possibilities.

other remaining teams NZ Windies and BD
NZ won both games but still to play against top 3

windies lost to Australia today

and BD also lost both games

still pretty much open for third place.

Afghanistan is a minnow
Sri Lanka is a minnow
Bangladesh are missing a bowler or two to win close matches
South Africa are playing like Zimbabwe
West Indies a good team that isn't good enough to win close matches.

Also the results of matches between top 3 will decide whether any one of them may miss out.

if england lose to either Indian or Australia than their position will be little weaker. and if NZ manages to beat them the probably won't qualify.

similar if india or Australia lose to top three and to either pakistan or NZ their position could also be in danger.

Unless pakistan mess up and lose to other teams

Ideal situation for Pak:

Australia beats India.

Pakistan beats Australia.

India beats New Zealand.

Australia beats New Zealand.

England beats New Zealand.
 
If BD had won against NZ, I wouldve backed them to go into semi because WI now shares a point with RSA instead of 2. So BD wouldve taken care of 2/3 semi finalists contenders right there.
 
Ind,Aus,Eng,NZ ....... sad that rain will decide who goes in top 4 anyways.... will be awesome if Eng-Afg and Ind-Afg gets washed out .... :yuvi
 
Three semi finalists are decided, India, Aus, Eng. For the last spot, there are three contenders, WI,NZ, Pak. And for last spot I believe NZ are favorites as they have won three games so far, granted they are against weaker teams but those are three wins and who knows what remaining games are going to be affected by rain. May be their games against India/Eng will be washed out and they get two points where they weren't going to get any. So my 4 are India/Eng/NZ/Aus

No hope for Pakistan if they keep persisting with the likes of Malik, Asif, Hasan and Shaheen.
 
I had a great time watching Pak lose today, I assure you. But I'm certain Pak will make the semis. And from there, any team can win.

India so far look the most confident, but their history in ICC tournaments suggests they look great and then a relatively unfancied West Indies, Pak or SL knock them out.

The other contenders for the semis, England, NZ, Australia don't look convincing enough to say one of them is likely to win their semi and then the final. So basically you have four teams who need to have just one special day, not even two, to beat the others.
 
Pakistan are so up and down that you cant say unpredictable anymore than you can they are schizophrenic [multiple personalities]. There is the scared timid Pakistan, and then there is the risk taking bold Pakistan. Looks like the timid [but not careful] Pakistan loses almost always, and the bold Pakistan wins about 70% of the time. Bringing out the bold one though is what is unpredictable.
 
Probably, after tomorrow's game, 4 S. Finalist will be confirmed, almost. There is a slim chance that we might surprise Aussies; otherwise last few games will be academic.
 
Could anybody explain to me how Pakistan is out of the reckoning? Mathematically, it is still possible right?

Other teams probably no longer have realistic chances. They are too far behind in the points table.

Bangladesh can make it to semi-final provided these two things happen -

1) Australia losing to BD, England, and NZ.
2) BD winning against Australia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Alas no Time machine to keep Shoaib , Farfraz , Shaheen at bay.

Against New Zealand Pakistan will Lose again.
My heart Bleeds to say this but seems like we do not have class players.
Look at current Pakistani Team , Each Player is backed by someone from PCB or other Strongholds.
Without Merit this is evident we going downhill.

When Tukka works , we become unpredictable , comon ....

I 2nd that to this opinion...If BD wins today they deserve to be in Semis and why not they have done real hardwork and they are at their best this time.

No way BD is winning against AUS. BD had a good run.... But its time boys will be separated from men.

The characteristics of a pseudo major team (self claimed) comes out when they are put against stressful conditions that a major team faces. All wheels are falling now.

I honestly didn't understand the hype created over bd. They have beaten the chokers and the 9th ranked team so far. Nothing special.

The four I expect to make it to semis.

India will be at everyone except England (they can win against them as well)

England lost to Pak but think will be at everyone.

Australia will lose to England and had lost to India, but win against everyone.

NZ will lose to Australia, England and drew vs India, should beat Pak(might lose also) and WI.

I think if the next game Pakistan win, then they will get enough momentum to win the last two games.

Pakistan will have to beat NZ to stand a chance. And even BD may fancy their chances against them.

I am perfectly OK with OP here - making a SF after 9 games needs lots of endurance, but we did make 4 out of 7, after 6 games in last WC; still I don't expect us to make it. In CT as well, I don't see it as lucky (otherwise PakPassion should put an asterisk on 1992 WC winners as well) - first we had to beat Kiwis, which team did, then AUS had the chance to knock us out by beating ENG - they failed. Similarly, had WIN beaten AUS in last game of 1992 WC group stage, despite rain and win over NZ, PAK would have been flying home - that doesn't mean AUS did a favor, neither Poms did here.

Coming to 2019 WC, I am not expecting us to make the cut - but, it'll be quite shallow for me if I paste some insightful posts from September 2015, when we made the CT as 7th ranked team, and it became a laughing stalk at PP. We can surprise couple of teams, but at the same time WIN, SRL, AFG can surprise us as well - net, net 3/4 wins is probably per; 5 is excellent and 6 will be delight; similarly 7 losses are under per, 8 will be disaster ......... 8.5 is trolling effort.

It's too easy to hide in PP for few days, after the event (s), hence I had to make sure that this doesn't go unnoticed; otherwise I myself wrote few days back that AUS, ENG, IND are almost certain, rest one spot would be hard fought between next 3, and we are not one of them.

If England lose today I think we've got an outside shot at making it to the top 4. Of course we still have to win all three remaining games but forecast seems good considering how we did against SA.

Rest of the spots are pretty much confirmed.
 
I think Pak will beat NZ but i fear Pak loosing to Bangladesh and as such not reaching the last 4.
 
Aus openers have got off to a really good start vs Eng. A win for them today would really open the door for BD, Pak or Sri Lanka to sneak into that 4th semi-final spot.
 
I think I was wrong regarding England. Let's wait and watch.

But, remaining 3 teams (Ind, Nz, Aus) I've mentioned have alread qualified

England and their ability to crumble in high pressure situation, who would have thought that they were going to find it so tough to make the semis.

Too soon to tell. But we nearly had the rematch from Mohali 2011 in 2015 had Watson not been dropped at the crucial moment in the quarter final.

Not really... NZ and India can still crash out. Unlikely, but can happen.

I think Dhawan's loss is a huge blow for India in a potential India vs Australia final.
 
England will beat India, too much are at stake and they have been training hard for this 'New England.' If England doesn't make it, it will be the biggest upset of this World Cup.

I definitely don't want to face india in semis because that would end up in defeat for pakistan. Plus pakistan have only beaten NZ in world cup semi finals(92,99) so I'd love to face NZ in semis. Just hope we defeat them tomorrow & somehow NZ win their remaining games & end up as number 1 team in groups so pakistan being number 4th will play vs them in semi & win the game.

Also, I think India will experiment with fielding first and playing some bench against England if they win against Windies. They will want to assure themselves that they can win batting second against a big team if the need arises in the knockouts. This can be a big opportunity for Poms to take advantage of.

It'll be awkward if India somehow loses to WI, then England vs India game becomes crucial for both. A defeat for either side means a tough road towards qualification.

Not really, India can still qualify by beating BD and SL which is not very hard.
