The current Top 20 ODI batters are as follows:

Tendulkar and Hayden scored 670+

Can any of these guys cross the 700 mark this year?

If the player reaches the final then they'll play 11 matches. 700 runs in 11 matches is near impossible. So probably not.

Two big hundreds and 300 in 2 matches is possible.

After that its easier to average 45 odd in remaining 9 matches.

So yes unlikely, but possible.

no it is possible... sachin did it with same number of matches but he scored only one 100 out of 11 matches and that against Namibia where he scored 152...
 
Very high chance of crossing 700 mark as there are lot of matches before going to knockouts.

Yeah but all teams are challenging unlike before when some teams were associate.
 
I guess 5-6 players will cross the 700 mark.

It could be Kohli, Warner, Fakhar, Babar, Guptill, QDC, J Bairstow, Rohit, Dhawan, Faf

Kohli and Amla have both scored 800+ runs in 10 innings during their careers.

To do in a world cup is obviously special. If it was easy many would have done it already.

Tendulkar/Hayden showed phenomenal consistency to get to 670+
 
The trick is to score as much you can against minnows and then maintain a decent rate against the top teams.

That's exactly how Sachin did it in 2003...he scored 350+ against Namibia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Netherlands in 4 games iirc and then maintained a respectable average against the competitive teams.

So batsmen like Kohli, Guptill etc will have to target Afg, Ban, WI if they want to get to the 700 mark.
 
Why are people saying Guptill? He is a great ODI batsman but somewhat boom or bust. I would pick Warner ahead of Guptill.
 
No minnows this time around in the World Cup to feast upon and get those big runs, it will take a serious effort and one to remember for if anyone scores 700+

Let's see if someone can do it, but players who I think can come close are:

Virat Kohli
David Warner
Jonny Bairstow
Babar Azam
Martin Guptill
Quinton De Kock
 
I think kohli, babar and warner have a realistic chance of crossing 500 + don't think about 700 here my friend
 
Kohli and Sharma will be playing at least 10 games in this world cup as their semi-final place is almost guaranteed. 700 in 10 innings will be 70 runs per inning which at least one of them should be able to manage.

I did not include batters from other teams because they are not as consistent as their Indian counterparts and barring England, there is always a chance that they will play one game less.
 
I can see Bairstow and Roy having brilliant tournaments. Difficult to see anyone scoring 700 runs though.

Not saying he can't have a good tournament but no way will he be top scorer lol. Teams have worked him out. Don't see him being a consistent scorer but hopefully he can have a decent tournament as we need him to have a chance of getting dependable scores.
 
Bobbs will score 500, but then won't score more after that.
 
Kohli, Rohit, Root, Williamson, Faf, Gayle.

Expecting a couple of double hundreds though.
 
If it can be done it's most likely to happen on English phattas. I fancy any one of Kohli, Bairstow, Roy, Guptill and Warner.
 
Kholi can probably get that. If We play the final, definitely is a very good possibility. That's 11 matches to get 700.
 
I think it would be one of the people who has scored a double hundred (or nearly) or Kohli:

1. Rohit.
2. Kohli.
3. Fakhar.
4. Jason Roy.


All these guys need is a double and a string of consistent scores. Kohli can probably do it unconventionally by scoring hundreds in all matches. I dont think Babar would get anywhere near that. Babar has recently been a 50-60 run person and does not have the hunger to go beyond a 100 and play a really long innings.
 
700 is a lot of runs and will be a World Cup record as well. It is possible but not sure if anyone will actually get there.
 
David Warner has left IPL with over 700 runs in 11-12 matches.

Freak form.

He is currently the top contender to top score at the world cup imo.
 
Dhawan - this guy knows how to score runs when the stakes are high - he's been India's highest run scorer in their last 3 ICC ODI competitions:

1. 2013 CT - leading run scorer in the tournament
2. 2015 WC
3. 2017 CT - leading run scorer in the tournament

Very much underappreciated by Indian cricket fans, PP and also with the cricket fraternity perhaps, whereas Rohit is massively overrated and very much hit and miss. The biggest issue with him is the fact that he usually scores his run quite sedately in the first 10 overs, when he should really be exploiting the gaps in the field. In India's last two ODI competitions (2017 CT and 2015 WC), he's only scored heavily against Bangladesh in the semis, other than that he hasn't done much.

Rohit is perhaps the most talented bat that India that have and no doubt he is one of the best openers in ODIs, but I still see the home track bully side of him especially because he struggles against pace bowling outside India and is susceptible to lateral movement.

I just couldn't take matches in India seriously after that innings. It's a match between two international teams fgs. He should score 200 outside of INDIA to really show how destructive he his.
 
The highest scorer will be from top 3 batsman in order. The game has moved in a way that most teams are top heavy in batting and allow batsmen inform to bat most overs.

The prominent batsmen among top 3 are
3 Indians
3 Aussies (Smith won’t be, if he bats at 4)
3 Poms (Root to bat at 3)
1 Kiwis (Ross bats at 4)
1 from SAF
1 from PAK

And there is an outside chance of Hope & Tamim scoring lot.

That’s about 12+2 names.

Sharma is going through a bad patch, Warner will be coming back and Finch, Roy are sort of hit & miss, Khwaja was never that great in ODI but he made it for his current form; while Tamim & Hope will most likely play 2 games less and they are not the quickest scorers to make it really big. Bairstowe & Dhawan plays a different role for which Dhawan might not be that good like past now. Babar can score lot, but not sure if he has an ODI 50 in UK - will need to perform out of ordinary to reach there.

So, net off I think it’ll be among 4 players - Kohli, Root, Will & Kock. Last 2 have lower chances to get 11 games.

My hunch is it’s Root, followed by Kohli.
 
Not unless someone has a Sangakkara like run against SL, WI and Afg.

More likely top scorer will be in 500-530 range.
Likely candidates are Guptill, Warner, Taylor, Kohli, Faf

You should not be taking games being played in Eng too seriously then. They've the flattest ever decks that could be found anywhere in world.
 
Other than usual suspects like Warner, Kohli, Root, Dhawan and Babar I expect Shai Hope and Haris Sohail (if he gets a good number of games) to do well. I would put my money on Warner topping the charts.
 
Steve Smith didn't look too comfortable in the nets against Aussie bowlers.

Is he losing his mojo?

Davvy Warner was favourite from the beginning. He had a monstrous IPL.
 
If England continues to get such pitches, look no further than an Englishman to be the highest scorer in this WC.
 
There wont be any Pakistani in the top 5 or even top 10, even if we manage to win the cup, because most of our matches will be rain affected.
 
Proving all posters wrong here, Shakib is the leading run getter so far. I hope he shall remain till the end.

Shakib is around 320 behind with 4 confirmed innings, but 2 of the innings are against 2 of the best attacks. That SRL game cost BD individually as well.

Rohit Sharma has scored 319 runs in 3 innings and has yet to play against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
 
No one has ever made 700 runs in a World Cup, but Rohit is on 544 with potentially 3 innings remaining, if India make it to the final.
